>> announcer: "nbc10 news" starts now. overnight, flurries, nbc10 "first alert" weather tracking snow showers, this morning. we'll tell you who is seeing the most. this morning, police have a lead on the missing college student shane montgomery and it points to the water. and a young woman's daughter may never walk again. good morning, i'm chris cato. we begin with meteorologist bill henley and the "first alert" forecast. bill, a lot of people are seeing snow showers out there. >> yeah, there are a few snow

showers over new jersey, other parts just seeing flurries. right now, wayne getting very light snowflakes. this is a live view from there. snowfall, though, is going to be tapering off to start with. more showers through the day. the steadiest snow is quickly moving through emergency emergency. we've seen a dusting on some of the grassy surfaces. really not expecting to see more than that, as much of the area is still above freezing. 34 in philadelphia. wilmington is 34 degrees. areas north and west more likely to see snicking in pottstown, reading and allentown with the temperatures below freezing. today, lots of clouds. the wind won't be as strong. occasional light scattered snow showers. 38 degrees at noon. we'll go through hour by hour with future weather. right now you the "first alert"

conshohocken? >> reporter: it's not snowing yet, but let me show you fayette. as you can see fayette is clear for the most part. this is what you'll find when you come out, you may actually see snow on your car. you'll need to allow five tour ten minutes to clear your car and warm the car up. and we also noticed some of the shrubbery in conshohocken is not covered. and the snow coming down, a pretty good clip, covering the roads, the farther south and west of the city you're going to find more snow, especially in the paoli/thorndale area. we'll continue to monitor the snowfall and let you know how much of that wintry teaser is headed our way. live for now in conshohocken,

monique braxton, "nbc10 news." four weeks now after the missing shane montgomery, new surveillance video shows shane walking close to the manayunk canal in the early hours. a pizza delivery driver in delaware county may never walk again after being shot on the job. 23-year-old nicki williams was making a delivery near a home at 9th and ward and chester. before she could get out of her car, someone walked up to her, robbed her and shot her. the bullet pierced her spinal cord and lungs. missy's mother said she is in disbelief and her daughter was just working part time for school. >> we just want justice for nicki. >> nicki is listed in critical but stable condition this morning. doctors told her mother that there's only a % chance that she

will walk again. the robber is still on the loose. >> happening today in philadelphia, this lawyer is wanted on sexual attack. a.j. mannesco. prosecutors in virginia have dropped charges against melvin barnes. barnes is accused of kidnapping, raping and trying to kill a 16-year-old in virginia. that was one month before he allegedly kidnapped carlesha freeland-gaither a month before that. we are learning more about the investigation of a fire that killed a firefighter. the first female firefighter to die in philadelphia's history. she was one of the first

firefighters to enter a home tuesday morning. it indicated that craig pressed an emergency button inside the home. the call went out that a firefighter was trapped in the basement. but the fire union president said that's not where she was found. >> we've been told she was in fact found in the first floor. again, i can't say if they were in the basement and came back up or if they were on the first floor the entire time. i think that's something that will come out in the investigation. >> craig is an 11 year veteran of the fire department. she leaves behind a 16-month-old daughter and a 15-year-old son. there were will be two viewings tomorrow at bachelor brothers funeral home. pennsylvania governor tom corbett ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in her honor. and whooping cough say

highly contagious res tore disease. parents need to make sure that their children are vaccinated. if not, you should watch them for the next two weeks for symptoms including uncontrollable bursts of coughing. children with whooping cough need five to eight days of antibiotics before they return to school. a group of residents from ardmore spoke out last night against receipt development of hog terrace off of cricket avenue. a developer wants to build a parking area calling it ardmore space. many residents signed petitions approving the complex. it's official, the jimmy rollins area in philadelphia so far. the phillies have traded their longtime shortstop to the

freezing. those temperatures are on the move. it's breezy. a like snow showers that pop up, not going to last long. keep on moving. the clouds are eventually out of here and we're on track for sunshine. right now, heading outdoor, 29 degrees at doylestown. temperatures above freezing at 34. and cape may waiting to see snowflakes this morning. this is a sfview from wayne. we saw some snow a minute ago but now it's just cloudy. just reaching the shore of atlantic city seeing some snowflakes. it's tapered off in western philadelphia. a chance of coming scattered snow showers leading to a little bit of a dusting on grassy surfaces and on colder surfaces like cars that have been out overnight. just above freezing for the allentown area. pottstown, doylestown.

reporter jillian mele has a look. >> out on 422, the highways are clear of any problems. we're dealing with an accident at horsham easton road at blair mill road. take york road as the alternate. a vehicle hit a pole and brought down lines in the area. and icy spots in upper gwynedd. same thing at plymouth meeting, we have icy spots reported there. just slow down this morning and take your time. keep in mind, if you have to travel over the bridges, those bridge surfaces can get pretty slippery. we're not reporting any problems, this is the ben and the westbound side. watch your speed. fear, a holdup in the lingerie department in a local mall. up next, what police want you to see and how much cash they got

macy's at the deptford mall. he got away with nearly $1200 cash. police gave nbc10 these photos. you'll see it coming up here of the suspect's car, speeding off in a white newer model four-door car door. >> it's unfair for those of hughes have to work for a living. it's unfair for those of us who come out here and need to feel that sense of security. >> now, the employee was not hurt. police and mall security are working together to increase patrols there at the deptford mall. delaware's largest city is in the national spotlight but leaders in wilmington not too pleased with. a national newspaper labeled wilmington murder town usa. with the homicides at 27. last night nbc10 found a candlelight memorial being held at the one of the scenes of the most recent killings.

>> who can say -- i witnessed and experienced so many people underground this is mutiny. >> i realize it maybe a controversial story within wilmington, but it's also a really important story that deserves the national spotlight. >> wilmington's mayor called the news article a misrepresentation of the city. happening today, we'll get a look at the new body cameras that philadelphia police are testing out. nbc10 will get a look at the new body cameras that they're testing out. about 30 officers are wearing those cameras as part of a pilot program. police say it's a push for transparency and earning more community trust. this morning, there's a response from bill cosby's lawyer to a new response. cameron green on the left there. green claims that cosby drugged

and assaulted her in the 1970s. the suit alleges that cosby publicly branded her a liar, that's why it's a defamation suit. cosby's lawyer issued a statement, we are very confident that we will prevail in this proceeding and we will pursue claims against the attorneys who filed this action." looking ahead to decision 2016 now, former pennsylvania senator rick santorum said he will again run for president. santorum told "the washington post," he'll be an underdog in the race, he knows that. but the republicans promise that his campaign will be different than the one he ran in 2012. santorum said he wants to reach out to blue collar voters. and democrats are showing support for assemblywoman perez. they chose to to hill the seat of donald norcross. perez is seen in the white in

this photo. new jersey first latino lawmaker resigned in 2009. democratic leaders will officially appoint cruz-perez this weekend. and part of a plan for friendly friendly attractions at gardners basin and also failed casinos to make way for green spaces. riverfront promenade park will overlook the delaware river. well, a decades' old patco station means franklin square could soon reopen. yesterday, the delaware port authority approved $500,000 to examine the so-called patco ghost station. it's been closed for 35 years. the cost to reopen it is

estimated at $12 million. the station would be the first stop in philadelphia after traveling the ben franklin bridge if it reopens. if you take the schuylkill expressway you may want to add more time to the morning commute. the right lanes will be closed in both directions between the interchange and montgomery county. that's happening at 9:30 through noon today for tree inspections. they want to make sure that the trees on the side of the mountain are sturdy and in firm place. >> announcer: now your nbc10 "first alert" weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> clouds are still with us, the wind is blowing and we're seeing snow showers blow through the area. this is a cloudy view from center city, no snow there. but we have seep the snow showers move through the city. philadelphia international reporting 34 degrees right now with winds out of the west at 16 miles an hour. this is a view from blue mountain and pocono mountains. snow on the ground, but doesn't

look like much of anything is falling from the sky. just light scattered snow showers. and they're riding on winds that are at 16 miles an hour in philadelphia. not as strong as yesterday but just enough to make it feel like the 20s. the temperatures for most of the area, i-95 corridor and south jersey all above freezing. and that's where the snow is right now, it's coming down but temperatures are too warm for accumulation. we've seen grassy surfaces in philadelphia. and a little colder north and west, and snow showers are burning to berks county, southern berks county, the reading area. these look like they're going to hold together and move through chester county in the next half hour, you'll see snowflakes coming down for the rest of the day. look at the clouds, streaming in the area, clouds will be here but there is clearing in the future. 9:00, 34 degrees in philadelphia. we'll be watching for snow showers north and west. at times it will blow through

the area later this afternoon. there may be rain drops as the temperatures will be in the upper 30s. delaware and south jersey more than likely seeing rain mixing in. look what happens, late tonight and early tomorrow morning, we're clearing out. this will clear the way for sunshine. coldest in the 40s and low 30s. we will see sunshine and that will continue through the weekend. today, clouds, occasional light scattered showers. just a dusting of temperatures. we're climbing in the upper 30s. a check of the highways with nbc10's "first alert" traffic reporter, jillian mele. >> a busy morning already. a number of accidents. including one in the cameras. we can't see the accident itself but police blocking that read. this is arammango avenue. we just got this call into westchester pike. route 3, hit a pole in that area. that's blocked off.

and, yes, some flakes are afalling in parts of the area. this is a live look here from photojournalist pete king. and you may find a dusting on your car. have that scaper handy. some of you seeing heavier showers in south jersey right now. nbc10 meteorologist bill henley is back in a moment to track the snow and tell us when it will end. well, president obama's labor secretary will be in philadelphia today to announce a $100 million grant competition. thomas perez will join mayor michael nutter on the school district's apprenticeship program. the grab money of the competition will allow young workers to earn why they learn. camden school system reports a big in the graduation rate. 52% of the class graduated on time. that's compared to 46% the year before.
