prime minister. simultaneous in paris there was a service for three police officers posthumously awarded france's highest honor. this is an emotional time in france. the white house admits they should have sent a more senior representative to show solidarity. >> we should have sent someone with a higher profile. >> the wife of the man who murdered the four hostages is confirmed to be far beyond the reach of justice. the security camera footage shows her and a male companion arriving in turkey more than ten days ago. officials say she later slipped across the border to syria and there reports in paris that as many as six more suspects are still on the loose. the government has not confirmed it but they ordered the largest deployment of armed forces since world war ii. 10,000 troops are fanning out across the country, guarding

monuments, jewish schools and other sensitive targets. >> there is also defiance here. the satyrical magazine charlie hebdo was attacked for publishing an offensive cartoon of the prophet mohamed plans to release a special edition. three million copies in 16 languages and yet again, another cartoon of the prophet mohamed and this time holding a sign that said je suis charlie, i am charlie. >> bill bratton served as the commissioner. good to see you. they are looking for the up to six other possible members of this terror cell in paris. is this something of a race against time? if you were doing this would the assumption be if given the chance if we don't catch up with them might strike again? >> might strike again and the passage of time allows them to move and move across a border

into europe now. they can move everybody out of the country easily. there is a concern of a potential strike again and the ability to disappear into larger europe. >> you look at what happened in paris, the suspects are dead and for the terrorists, this is a success story. do you worry about that motivating people here to try something similar some. >> certainly. we saw back in september on twitter encouraging the vulnerable attacks. isis did. we saw canada. we have seen in australia and we had the event here in new york city with the offices attacked. we clearly have been motivated by getting on to the types of sites. >> they renewed that threat and drew attention to it again. what are you telling the officers and how are you telling them to be on the look out.

>> we have so many additional officers out protecting the sites to be more vigilant than they might be. the idea that the two officers in the car and we want to release one of them preferably two and engaging with people. to be very much aware f their own safety and the safety of the site. >> french authorities have come in for criticism and at least in the case of one suspect, he was well-known to french authorities and served time in prison. they are being accused of dropping the ball and not watching them anymore. has that led you and people working in your counter terror unit to scrub the database and look back at the people who might have been on your list or of interest to you in the past? >>. >> one of the benefits was so big, we had almost 1,000 officers assigned and intelligence operations. we have a lot of resources with almost 500 recollects working

with the fbi in close collaboration and we are continually doing that. nowhere near the level of threats that england had in terms of people living within their borders. we have a bit of a head start. >> always good to have you. here's matt. >> investigators trying to pinpoint what caused smoke to fill a subway train and station in washington, d.c. during monday's busy evening rush. it led to one woman's death and sent dozens more to area hospitals. tom costello has the latest. good morning. >> reporter: we are at the plaza metro stop here in d.c. 84 people taken to area reports, three in critical condition and tragically one person died. smoke filled the trains and for nearly an hour passengers were stuck inside. >> please stay calm. >> panic on the subway.

they surge passengers in a car to stay calm. for hundreds of passengers that was impossible choking on smoke so thick they could barely see. it happened at washington's metro station as the evening rush hour was getting under way. a virginia bound car stuck on the tracks. >> no electricity, no visibility. nothing. >> so much smoke they stayed thursday their cars struggling to breathe. by the time firefighters arrived, some passengers were unconscious, others having seizures. >> once i got out i could taste blood in my lungs. it's nasty. >> pitch black smoke everywhere. they kicked dozens out. >> they were treat and transferred to hospitals. so many they had to use city buses. >> there was a woman in distress on the train and i'm sorry to say she passed away. >> the root cause is unclear, but they narrowed the source of

the smoke. >> there was an electrical event involving the third rail. the train did not derail and there was no fire on the train. >> washington's metro system has a checkered safety past. in 2009 nine people were killed and 70 injury when is a train slammed into another. the system said they believe they can work around the issue and the commute should not be greatly affected. >> tom costello in washington. >> the defense department is having to answer a lot of questions after the u.s. central command's twitter and you tube sites was attacked. this happened on the same day president obama was addressing cyber security. they are claiming links to isis and posting messages. let's go to the pentagon. good morning to you. >> there is no question that this is a huge embarrassment for the pentagon and military. s en com tried to play down the incident calling it vandalism.

it's serious enough that the fbi is investigating. it was a cyber punch to the military's central command. a group hacked into and seized control ofs en com's accounts that they use to post information and videos of air strikes against isis in iraq and syria. coincidence or not, it occurred as president obama delivered a speech on the need to tighten up cyber security. >> if we are going to be connected, we need to be protected. >> for 30 minutes they tweeted threatening messages. american soldier, we are coming. watch your back and posted isis problem ganda video. social media sites can be easy targets for the likes of this. >> they have the ability of stealing passwords through spear fishing. it's not the most sophisticated, but it gets the job done.

ohio state is celebrating after winning the first ever college football playoff in dominating fashion. if you look at this the empire state building lit up in the colors very closely to buckeye at the top of the hour. craig melvin is at at&t stadium in arlington. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. 60 to 70% of the stadium was filled with ohio state fans and they celebrated pretty hard after the big win. the celebrations got out of control in columbus. at one point the police there had to put on riot gear and used tear gas and pepper spray. 80,000 students put on the goal post and there were a handful of arrests. everyone celebrating the eighth national championship for ohio state. a shootout deep in the heart of

suspicious. subway trains were forced to bypass the station. the three-alarm fire broke out in an underground construction site nearby. two firefighters suffers minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. divers have recovered the second black box from air asia flight 8501. the voice recorder was freed from beneath the wreckage and will be downloaded by analysts in jakarta in hopes it will reveal what pilots were saying before the plane crashed last month with 162 people aboard. only 48 bodies have been recovered so far. a settlement could be in the works between penn state university and the ncaa over the school's handling of the jerry san duska child molestation scandal. the potential deal could involve restoreing 112 wins stripped from
