the u.s. capitol. pete what can you tell us? >> reporter: matt good morning, verdicts say the 20-year-old wanted to carry out an attack as a way to support an isis terror group. they say he talked to somebody who thought he was like-minded but who turned out to be working for the fbi. the plan prosecutors say, was to set off pipe bombs at the u.s. capitol and shoot people as they fled. fbi investigators say chris fer kornell age 20 from cincinnati first came to their attention last august when he called himself raheel beta and showed support for the terror group. he met someone in the cincinnati area who he thought was sympathetic but was an under cover operative for the fbi. he went into a shooting range and bought two assault rifles like this along with 600 rounds

of ammunition. >> as soon as the purchase was over and he left the door several agents came out and tackled him here in the parking lot and took him down. >> reporter: according to court document kornell said he drew inspiration from anwar al awlaki and video from isis. he says isis gave a thumbs up for acts of violent jihad. >> there is a new battleground in the terror against war on us that is social media used to communicate with people willing to carry out desperate maniational acts. >> reporter: he says the fbi pushed him to do something on his own. >> i think a lot is coercion. no way he had the money to carry out any kind of terrorist attack. >> reporter: no comment from his offender. they say there was no danger to the public because he was under close watch for months and he never built any bombs, matt. >> thanks, pete. the u.s.-led fight against

overturned vehicle 95 southbound right near the airport. that has cleared and all of the delays have also cleared so that is good news on 95. unfortunately for drivers in delaware in wilmington we have a water main break enclosing foulk road between silverside and shipley. breaking news from northeast philadelphia. finally crews have shut off this pesky broken water main that has been gushing a geyser for over 12 hours. water was shooting hundreds of feet into the air and crystallized trees and formed layers of ice on the ground nearby. in fact one worker was injured because of the icy conditions there. now, the water main fed a sprinkler system on private property. no homes were affected by loss of pressure but the water main finally has been shut off. we'll have another update in 25 minutes. you can get the latest through the nbc 10 news app. have a great day.

the mountains, 28 and holding for reading, pottstown and allentown. trenton is 28 degrees. it just warmed up one degree in northeast philly. now 31 degrees there. it's going to be a slow climb. we're watching for some breaks in the cloud cover this afternoon as temperatures climb into the 30s. we have new information now on a mobile home fire in gloucester county. that fire destroyed one home heavily damaged two others. sky force 10 was over the scene after the fire broke out on crown point road in west deptford. emergency crews did take one man to the hospital. the fire marshal is still looking into what caused the fire there. about half an hour ago crews finally shut off this broken water main that was gushing water for more than 12 hours. sky force 10 was over the scene along bluegrass road just before crews found that shutoff valve. water from the geyser froze on trees there and also on the ground. in fact one worker was hurt

because of the icy conditions. that water main feeds a sprinkler system on private property. no homes were affected. a division of caesar's entertainment has filed for bankruptcy protection. they want to get rid of $10 billion in debt by splitting the company into two divisions. one for owning casino hotels and the other for leasing them. the company owns three casinos in atlantic city and one in chester. we'll have another update in 25 minutes. have a great day.

>> good morning. >> how does it increase your chance of cancer? >> that cancer can penetrate into the tissues of your body and cause dna damage to your cells. repeated exposure those mechanisms are overwhelmed, those mutations accumulate and eventually can cause cancer. >> if i'm a patient, how do i weigh the decision? i want the best possible analysis yet, there is this side effect. >> there are two questions if they recommend a cat scan. first of all, you want to know is this scan going to change the outcome of how we treat or diagnose my issue? either way, no matter what the result is they're going to give you a certain medication. there is no point in doing the scan. you want to know why, is it absolutely necessary? number two, you want to fiend out is there any alternative, ultrasounds and mris can diagnose certain conditions there is no radiation there. you want to find that out. lastly the dose is very important.

unfortunately a chest cat scan at one hospital may give you a different dose than one at the other hospital. obviously, you want the lowest dose possible to give the same image. work on that. >>let talk about how much radiation we pay be exposed to. let's start first with the airport scanner. >> yes. >> how much radiation are we exposing ourselves to. >> msv stands for millisieverts. it's very minimal. .001. i should point out living on earth we are exposed to radiation. this is about as i quiff lent to that. >> -- equivalent to that. >> let's move on to a dental x ray. >> it's creeping up there, .00209 .004. you may need them. you don't need them every time. you want to question. that i just had it six months ago or a year ago.

they can add up. >> what about children too? >> children in particular you want to be very careful. they were much more susceptible to radiation injury. they're growing. their cells are dividing more rapidly. certainly ask about dosage when an x-ray or cat scan is ordered. >> what does a crest ct scan look like? >> we are getting to more significant radiation. this is 7 millisieverts. one cat scan is not the end of the world. you never know when you will need another one. you want to limit your exposure and look for alternatives if they are available. >> you put it all in perspective, though few are a smoker a pack a day smoker how much radiation are you getting? >> that's getting up there. it's 53. this is when you can see how significant smoking is in terms of your cancer risks. you can imagine, if you get multiple cat scans, you are approaching that risk. you want to try to keep it under control and talk to your doctor about other "options action."

clouds. we're waiting for that to happen in philadelphia. this afternoon, the temperatures will be in the middle to upper 30s. right now, we're in the very low 30s. 31 in philadelphia international, northeast philly at the airport. wilmington is 32 degrees. still seeing 20s north and west. skies are starting to brighten. so keep an eye out for those breaks of sunshine this afternoon. >> thank you, bill. medics took one man to the hospital for smoke inhalation following this fire at several mobile homes in west deptford. skyforce10 launched over the scene this morning along crown point road. the fire destroyed one of the homes and damaged two others. the fire marshal is looking for a cause. nbc 10 in northeast philadelphia as water department crews make repairs to a broken water main there. they reached the shutoff valve just a few hours ago after the main had been gushing for more than 12 hours. and you can see the icy mess left behind on the trees and on the ground. and this was the view from skyforce10 earlier this morning as the busted water main sent a
