>> across the nation more black ice blamed for a major pile up on an interstate in oregon saturday. this is what's left of the truck after being sandwiched between two semis. he survived. >> it didn't hurt. i wiggled my head around and looked at my arms and hands and i can move my knees and feet. >> he managed to walk away with minor bruises and scrapes. >> i know there is a reason i was able to get out of there. it's something that i will have to live with and learn from. >> they only had two band-aids out of the whole thing and he was only truly safe when he got to hug his wife and 2-year-old son. there could be refreezing this morning when you take it slow. rush hour is less because of martin luther king,jr. day. >> almost everyone in the panel wiped out left.

thanks. the secret service is on alert as agents search for whoever fired shots near the delaware home of joe biden over the weekend. chris jansing has the latest for us. good morning. >> good morning, willie. investigators have a mystery on their hands. local law enforcement in delaware described the neighborhood as very upscale and not the kind of place shots are fired out of a speeding car. as they increase security the hunt is on for whoever did it. for hours, investigators searched the area around the vice president's home and his neighbors, looking for bullets or clues after a series of shots were fired saturday night from a speeding car. the bidens were out for the evening, but secret service was there and gave chase along with local police but the vehicle got away. the gunfire came from a public road outside the security

perimeter. the house can't be seen from there, but the shots were clearly heard. the chase, the search in the area and questioning neighbors turned up nothing leaving a range of possibilities. >> who was having a dispute in the area. is it unrelated to the vice president and someone who is mentally defected. >> there is always a perimeter with the 7,000 square food home and a guard chak at the entrance. the vice president and dr. jill biden spend weekends away from public duties but not out of the public eye. he was at the home depot on saturday morning. a man was taken into custody less than an hour later who was trying to get around officers scouring the perimeter, but he was not charged with going do with the shooting itself. none of the homes were damaged, leaving questions of who and why unanswered. investigators told me they don't know if the biden home was the

target or it was a random shooting. the vice president is scheduled to be in delaware to speak at a martin luther king day breakfast. he and president obama have been briefed on the shooting. willie? >> chris jansing outside the white house this morning. >> we have news about a top secret cyber operation. nbc news confirmed a report in the "new york times" that u.s. cyber spies penetrated north korea's security system and that's how they knew it was behind the hack on the sony situation. this explains why the fbi and the president was so confident about accusing the north even when companies said this was an inside job. >> that's right. that's why there was so much push back when the president accused north korea of being behind the attack. they penetrated there 34 years ago. according to the times and confirmed to nbc news they did not have advanced warning with

the monitoring. they learneded about it on november 24th when sony alerted the fbi. that's when they were able to go back over surveillance and confirm that north korea was behind it. they told a cyber conference that north korea was sloppy in hiding their tracks and they could see that the ip addresses used were coming from ips exclusively used by the north koreans. when intelligence chief went to north korea to bring home the americans in prison, he was surprised to find he was having dinner with the chief in charge of the hacking program. the nsa said because of the sensitivity to bring back the two americans, the general did not want to do progress by discussing the hacking such as north korea's cyber war program. by the way, the north koreans ended up sending the general a

flight 8501 went down on december 28th. investigators in california are not sure why a fitness model was filmed on train tracks when he was hit and killed by a train in burbank, california. he was filming on the tracks and witnesses saw him on the tracks even when the horn was blaring. he appeared on the soap opera days of our lives. they have ruled it a suicide. >> a close call at jfk airport where a jet blue flight was forced to avoid a take off. it was cleared for take off heading down the runway at full speed when a caribbean airway flight crossed with no authorization. the pilot slammed on the brakes and the faa said the two planes never came closer than 2800 feet. no one was injured.

relationships. there has been a surge of cases worldwide. some cases are simply imported from abroad, but probably the argument is that we have seen a decrease in vaccination rates that translated in a rise in cases because of that. >> the cdc said measles is one of the most contagious illnesses and you can catch it just by being in a room where a person with measles has been even if the person has left. >> that's correct. not only is it respiratory and spread through coughing and sneezing and touching your hand to your mouth, but it can survive on dry surfaces. >> there was a big outbreak in the late 80s. you had to be vaccinated as a little and have a booster before preschool. if you are born or you were vaccinated before 1989 you may not be fully protected. >> you may not be. i wonder what my own status is.

good morning, i'm tracy davidson. it's a first alert weather day here because of the icy roadways. bill? there's a lot of ice on the roadways this morning leftover from the rain we got last night. we saw some snow showers in the pocano mountains but now they have moved into chester county. new castle county will see a sprinkle, a few flurries, no accumulations in these areas but it's out there. and so is ice, even with temperatures above freezing at 33 in pottstown. 36 degrees in philadelphia. the air temperature is above freezing but there's still ice on the ground. and clouds overhead.

international incident. while the pageant may be a gathering to unite women, in beirut television station al ja hid said she should have known better than to appear in a photo because lebanon and israel are enemies. miss lebanon claims she was photo bombed by miss israel posting i was very cautious to avoid being in any photo or communication with miss israel but tried several times to have a photo with me. i was having a photo with japan, slovenia and myself and she took a selfie and put it on her social media. >> i was not surprised. >> she just completed her service in the israeli defense forces denied she photo bombed anyone. >> i hope for change and i hope for peace between us. even just for three weeks. just between me and her.

unsuperviseed from a park about a mile from home. good morning to you. i like to unpack. let's begin with what happened. we are talking about december 20th, a few weeks ago. this is something you have done before. you let your 10 and 6-year-old walk home from different places. explain what happened when the police arrived. >> the kids were walking home from a park. this is the longer trip they have taken. they got about halfway home when a police car pulled up. two police cars pulled up and asked the kissed are you lost or need help and they said we are fine. we know our way home. the police asked do you live off this route? they said yes we know how to get home. they said why don't you get in the car and we will take you home. someone was walking and called police. >> was that scare tow get picked up by police? >> no. >> is this something your mom
