us of the puppy bowl. >> more growling and whimpering than usual. >> not the stuff from us that you normally get. it is the puppies this time. we want to go right to our top story, that is the snowstorm sweeping from the midwest this morning into the northeast. overnight chicago facing what could be one of the city's largest storms in history. new york and boston potentially under the gun again as well. 1,300 fights have already been canceled today. dylan is ready for another jam-packed week. >> i'm so distracted by these puppies over here. i don't know how i'm supposed to concentrate. we are talking about another sunday-into-monday storm. it's already hit areas like shoug where it's been snowing for showers for showers. it has let up in intensity for a little while. then it will pick up again. we are also looking at snow falling back through omaha, nebraska. it came down very heavy at times

and tipped to pile up making a mess of everything on a sunday. now we are looking at the storl.m. heavy batches of snow right back through chicago. this area of low pressure will continue to track to the east. where exactly it tracks determines where we'll see that rein/snow line. we are looking for it to move through chicago all day today, then eventually through pittsburgh. new york city is right on that line. if we change over to rain which is possible we'll obviously lower the snowfall totals. we could see a period of icing on top of three to five inches of snowy would make a mess. in chicago, an additional 9 to 12 inches on top of what's already on the ground. then this pink area all across michigan, through parts of new york state and including new england where we could see 12 to 18 inches of snow. boston again could waver on the rain-snow line. but still an area hard hit looking at another round of heavy snow. >> it is a tough start to the winter already.

sheinelle has more information on this frightening incident involving the daughter of the late singer whitney houston. >> bobby kristina brown is in an atlanta hospital this morning in an eerily similar event to her mother's death three years ago. gabe gutierrez is live with more. >> reporter: good morning. last night a relative told our nbc affiliate wxia that she was in a medically induced coma. hospital officials here have not confirmed that so right now her condition is unclear. this morning a police investigation is under way to determine how bobby kristina brown ended up face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub. detectives don't believe there was any foul play. >> right now we are treating this investigation as a medical call. >> reporter: when officers arrived at her moment near atlanta saturday they found brown's husband, nick gordon performing cpr.

investigates are now trying to find out what happened before that. hours earlier this selfie was mosted on her instagram account. one of her recent posts on twitter, "i miss you, mommy, so much." a friend told nbc news it's been a hard time. >> since her mother passed away she hasn't known how to handle it. >> reporter: the 21-year-old is the only child of whitney houston and r&b star bobby brown. almost three years ago houston was found dead in a bathtub at a beverly hills hotel. authorities concluded she'd accidently brown but hard disease and cocaine use were listing as contributing factors. >> it is bizarre that the same type of incident would would happen involving a mother and daughter. . >> reporter: police say that an initial search of bobby kristina brown's home did not turn up any drugs. officers say that nine days ago they were called to that home

with the report of a fight but when investigators arrived no one was home. >> certainly wish her the best. thank you, gabe. tears and rage this morning off the apparent beheading of a japanese hostage by islamic militants. a vigil was held on the streets of tokyo today mourning the death of the journalist. jordan this morning says it will -- it is still willing to swap an iraqi prisoner for a jordanian pilot held by isis. the terrorist group claims to have beheaded six hostages. president obama calls the act a heinous murder. the war on isis will be one of the topics that savannah guthrie discusses with president obama when they sit down live at the white house at 4:30 eastern during nbc's pre-game coverage of the super bowl. two climbers are recovering after a daring mid winter mountain rescue. the oregon national guard reached the stranded climbers on mt. hood saturday before nightfall. three climbers fell earlier in the day. one man suffered a broken leg. a woman broke both ankles. they were airlifted to a

four hours on the golf course drinking beer there's nothing wrong with that. it's a fun activity. let's take a look at the weather going on because we are talking about another major snowstorm. this one is right now hitting chicago hard where we could see a foot foot and a half of snow total. we've also got rain down across louisiana, arkansas moving into tennessee, too. in the northwest we have a lot of mountain snow and also in the southwest, al we started off the day with a lot of fog. those pictures were just kind of vicious looking with the fog. what's going on now? >> yeah. it really is foggy. fog advisories on the highway signs. they have closed the roof now until further notice until the fog dissipates because they don't want it condensing on the field. but, here's the forecast. looking good by kickoff around 6:30 eastern time 4:30 here. it is going to be clear, mild and 64 degrees, dylan. so it looks like a perfect
