the super bowl, it will be "meet the press." we'll see you next week. first alert weather because of this overnight, snow turning into morning rain. it is creating a slippery slushy and messy situation on the roads right now. this is a live look at the poconos where snow is still falling as we look at camelback ski resort. cape may will only see rain this morning. a cold blast of air is coming that could make for an icy commute in the evening. we'll talk about that in a moment. a live look at first alert radar shows what is on top of us right now. that system moving through a lot more wet weather to come. good morning thrks is nbc 10 news on this monday.

expect weather to impact your day from start to finish. we have team coverage to help you prepare for the wintry messy weather on top of the area today. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley and his forecast. >> the worst of it will be this morning, then later this afternoon. in between, a break. right now, rain is falling down. it's deceiveing. we got snow to start w. it's creating an icy mix. the poconos are getting snow. that's the scene from kak elback. you can see that on the radar with a large area of snow. there's rain and much is slush covered. to the north and west icing. you can see some of the pinks in the radar. this is where freezing rain is coming down. sleet is a possibility as well. snow tapering off in areas to

the north as the temperatures climb. they have been climbing overnight. 35 in wilmington. areas north and west are colder. doylestown, 31 degrees. bucks county right at the freezing mark. there's plenty of slipping and sliding going on with icy conditions north and west. conditions will slightly improve as the day goes on. 35 degrees at 7:00. rain falling at 9:00. as the rain comes down the temperature is slowly coming up. then in the low 40s by lunchtime. we'll go through it hour-by-hour with the future weather. let's check in with jillian mele and find out where the slippery spots are. >> good morning, bill. the conditions are different, depending on where you are waking up or traveling this morning. this is a live look in the lehigh valley along route 22. you can see the snowy conditions out there.

it's tough to see the black top on route 22. same for the northeast extension and lehigh valley and interstate 78. slow it down and take your time. bucks county you can see the slushy mix bill was talking about. that's what we are dealing with in bucks county. in philadelphia, that is rain. this is a live look at 76. we are not reporting serious accidents on the local highway. chris? much of the area saw at least some snow. around 2:00 this morning, the roads were a slushy mess. heavy snow fell in center city earlier in the evening. this is a look at broad and vine around midnight. big flakes coming down there. people had their umbrellas up coating the street and the car before it switched over to rain a few hours into it. the worst of the winter weather is hitting lehigh valley.

matt delucia is out in storm force 10. what is it like where you are? >> reporter: chris, it is very messy. let's go to the dashcam raera. they are trying to get the slush off the road here. we had snow in the area earlier. now it's mostly rain. we experienced mostly rain for the past hour and a half that we have been on the road. most of the snow appeared to have moved out of the area. it is wet and trying to get as much of the slush off the road before the morning commute. we have video that we just fed into the news room a few minutes ago. a couple miles back there was a jackknifed tractor trailer that went right off the road. you can see the tire tracks that went over the guardrail and so that stopped us for a couple

minutes there. they are trying to get that situated. it's a very clear indicator not to go fast on these roads. we are going to stay out here and give you updates. for now i'm live. matt delucia, nbc 10 news. some people are getting extra sleep. nonessential state employees do not need to come to work on time. essential employees must report on time. new jersey transit wants passengers to take it slow as they head into work this morning. there could be weather related delays. new jersey tran sis is cross honoring tickets to make your commute easier. a live look at 30th station. amtrak is planning a normal schedule. some northwest regional trains could change times. keep an eye on that. you can get the forecast

weather alerts and advisories on your smartphone or tablet. it's a free download in the app store. other news a philadelphia man who killed his boss over fear of losing his job is set to be in court. he shot her to debt at the bus stop. you can see his picture here. surveilness captured them moments before the shooting. they worked at turning points for children. investigators believe jones was about to report sanders for misappropriating money. >> a scum bag. that's all i can say. to shoot a human in broad daylight in front of people leave her on a corner. >> police arrested sanders saturday night. he confessed to the killing. this morning, police are looking for an inmate who broke out of a prison again.

he pulled a fire alarm at the correspond rex center. a day care leader left five children in an suv while she went grocery shopping. she's charged with endangering the welfare of the children. she left the engine running and the air-conditioning on. two infants were among the five left in the vehicle. then there's this. at 4:07 super bowl xlix is in the books. once again, new england patriots are champion. it was a heart breaking loss to the seahawks. they were one yard away of scoring the go ahead touchdown and then this happened.

>> clock is five. intercepted at the goal line by malcolm. unreal. >> oh it was a curious play that pete carroll will live out the rest of his life. they passed instead of giving it to lynch. brady scored four touchdowns. new england win, 28-24 for their fourth super bowl title. what a game. announcer: now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. we have a slippery mess that has developed this morning. overnight, we saw snow but it changed to rain in philadelphia. the snow is on the ground rain on top of it. redding to philadelphia to trenton, everybody holding at 34 degrees right now. the rain is coming down in each location. in each location snow is already on the ground.

so, we have slippery conditions. the further you go north, look at the pocono mountains. that's just snow. the lehigh valley is getting snow as well. it is just rain falling in philadelphia. a steady rain is what we are in for most of the morning. we have seen the rain/snow line move to the north. the warmer air is pushing in with the storm. that's pushing the snow off to the north. there's already a coating of snow on the ground. we are getting the snow and icy conditions this morning. upper burkes county lehigh county getting snow right now. in between the snow that's falling in the pocono mountains and the rain falling to the south, there's an area of icing in between. it's going to be brief, but the big mess is already on the ground. the further south and east you go the better the conditions will be. the temperatures are already looking warmer. the hour-by-hour weather shows that warm up will continue. a slow one to start with.

35 degrees. close to the temperatures we have right now. allentown, 34 degrees. raining at 6:00 slushy icy conditions on the ground. by 8:00 in the morning, look at the warm up. tapers of the rain. that's good news. it won't end in the morning hours. dealing with rain in the 95 corridor as the temperatures push near the 40 degree marm at 11:00. 35 degrees in allentown. look at millville, 50 degrees. rain in delaware and south jersey. then this afternoon, the temperatures will peak in the lower to middle 40s. still a few rainshowers and then here comes the cold as we head into the late afternoon hours. strong gusting wind the temperatures drop below freezing. icing conditions if it doesn't dry up later today. a look ahead at the extended future weather when we come back. we are keeping an eye on the roads. we know things are messy out

4:14. it's a snowy, rainy mess across the area and the northeast. look at this video. the storm we have dumped a foot of snow last night until early this morning. the ohio turnpike until noon today. here at home much of the area saw snow before it changed to rain overnight. this is video of what it looked like along route 70 and cherry hill. people driving home from super bowl parties had to take it slow. >> the snow lasted longer in the lehigh valley. this is route 22 in easton. the road usually busy at this time. the video was taken last night.

nobody on it while cameras were rolling. further north, the snow is still falling. camelback shows the snow coming down. they are not having to make the artificial stuff this morning at camel back. plenty of snowfalling there. it could mean delays for a lot of you. jesse gary is keeping an eye on everything and joins us from 30th station. >> reporter: the rain continues to fall here at center city. this is the expressway. eastbound toward you and westbound away from you. the freeway has a lot of water on it and a lot of slush, too. because of the changeover of rain. slow down and be careful. some of the drivers don't seem to get the message, at least not yet. they are moving at a good clip. the roadway is wet and there are pools of water. coming up we'll update conditions and show you how the rain is affecting the existing

snow. live in center city jesse gary nbc 10 news. >> the weather is causing problems at philadelphia international airport. 50 flights canceled so far this morning. most are arriving flights. some departures as well. crews cleared the runways and taxi ways. if you are flying out or picking someone up. call ahead to check on the status. 800-phl-gate is the number to do that. crews applied brine to delaware's roads. they repaired equipment in case they needed to battle the snow. so far, no problems of that in delaware. remember when winter weather forces schools to close or delay, you can get an alert sent straight to your phone or e-mail. check on the status of your child's school anytime, do it on

the nbc app. turning our attention back to super bowl xlix it was a serious super bowl at least during commercial breaks. many advertisers dropped the comedy and sexy ads and took a serious tone. >> i died from an accident. >> this ad for nationwide insurance addresses preventable childhood death talking about the experiences he'll never have in life. procter & gamble had an ad about what it's like to be a girl. and then a real 911 call of a woman pretending to order a pizza because her attacker was there in the house. a lot of people were taken aback by this stuff. the domestic violence scandal put it in light. we spoke with domestic violence

advocates to talk about the impact they had on that issue. what did you find? >> reporter: we went to a woman's place in doylestown. this organization helps several thousand women every year get out of domestic violence situations. the executive director and employees have been keenly aware of what the nfl and other organizations are doing to curb domestic violence. the executive director was watching with an extra high to the psas that have been running. the psas have been aimed at raising awareness for domestic violence. her organization did not see an increase in the number of domestic violence cases reported last year even after the infamous ray rice elevator abuse case and all the awareness that came from it. >> i don't think je'ney rice was treated well or fairly. a lot of the coverage that i

still getting snow. eventually ly eventually, that will change over to snow and rain. it's all snow to the north. where the rain and snow mix, a brief period of freezing rain. the mess is what's on the ground for much of the area with rain over the snow that fell overnight. lots of slippery spots and standing water as well. steady rainfall across delaware and south jersey. it is tapering off this afternoon. that's where we are going to see the temperatures looking better than they do right now. not horrible in philadelphia or wilmington. at least above freezing. north and west the temperatures are above the freezing mark. willow grove, you are going to see slippery spots. collegeville and eagleville extra time to get around. low 30s for gilbertsville, pottstown looking at icy conditions this morning. we'll see changing during the day. one is the wind. right now, easterly wind

dragging the moisture in and bringing the temperatures up as warm moisture comes in off the ocean. the temperatures will rise into the 40s. during the afternoon, the winds start to shift. a strong wind will drop the temperatures into the 20s. this evening, into the teens. anything left on the ground is going to be frozen solid as we head into the evening hours. rain this morning falling over snow. a slushy slippery start to the day, then rain that tapers off the afternoon. cold winds come in behind the temperatures in the 40s. the temperatures plummet later today. good incentive to get out and shovel whatever is left after we see the rain taper off early this afternoon. full seven day forecast coming up. how long the cold snap on the way will last. >> bill 4:21. we continue to check the roads with snow and rain coming down. a slippery commute. we are watching closely for

problem spots. jillian mele has the responsibility of watching that. >> good morning, chris. burkes county this is a look at the turnpike at the morgantown interchange. slippery conditions. an accident on the northbound side of the northeast extension past quakertown. in the lehigh valley a lot of yellow and red on the map. a lot of drivers are slowing down and taking their time, especially in the lehigh valley. things are tricky as far as conditions go. leave yourself extra time. chris? today, they are doing work on a runway refurbishing projectal the air force base. the $98 million overall is expected to continue through june of next year. 4:22 now. a local city council meeting took a chaotic turn.
