difference between life and death. katy zachry is live out there at an adult senior center. why is this so important? >> reporter: well, places behind me like this older adult center here in the ronhurst section of the city. they offer safe warm places for adults to go if their homes are not warm. staying warm in temperatures like this is crucial for seniors more at risk for hypothermia than a younger person. in fact an older man died recently because of hypothermia. and yesterday there was another cold-related death in the lehigh valley. older adults are more at risk because of the natural aging process and because of their loss of body fat. >> body fat sources are insulation. so if the body fat is not there, it puts the older person at
4:04 am
risk. >> reporter: if you know an older adult or live next to a senior citizen, how warm should it be in their home? we asked medical experts that and coming up next half hour we'll tell you how warm it should be. you may be surprised what temperature they suggest. katy zachry, "nbc 10 news." and valuable information on this cold morning. the philadelphia school district is also taking extra precautions in this brutal weather. this morning bus crews will come to work an hour early to make sure the buses actually start and are ready to hit the road. other workers will arrive early at all the school buildings to make sure they are warm for kids. a district spokesperson has this advice for parents. >> prepare the children to have all the gear that they need for extreme cold weather. >> and on the city streets, many were checking on the city's homeless. this weather can cause frostbite in 30 minutes. and speaking of schools, we

his wife is also a doctor. after three female patients said he inappropriated touched them after that detectives say 22 more women have come forward with similar stories. >> these women don't know each other. a lot of people think they are just in it for the money, and i would venture to say that's not exactly true. >> on top of a number of criminal counts of sexual contact, one woman's claim resulted in a more serious charge of sexual assault. eight minutes after 4:00 now, investigators now tell us a deadly stabbing at a meat processing plant in montgomery county was actually spark eded by a 32-year-old man who is allegedly charged for killing his co-worker. on tuesday vazquez tried to pull a chair out from the man as a joke. the next day the two men got into a fight and vasquez was

stabbed. there was also a handwritten note where he was found that said, see you in hell. and the parcc test that students have to take in a few weeks, next month students in third grade and up will have to take the test. but many parents want their kids to be able to opt out. >> we don't even know what it measures. it seems like it is being thrown at us and kind of you know here's what it's going to be and everybody has to scramble to get ready for it. >> well, supporters say the test will provide better information about students strengths and weaknesses. the department of education says parents wouldn't be breaking the law by having their children skip out on the test. public schools in atlantic
