camera just yet. so we will continue to monitor the situation, and it will happen in the next 15 minutes or so. it will take a lot longer before we start to see snow moving down into parts of south jersey and along the shore. here's our future weather. it shows when everything is going to take place. so closer to 5:00 a.m. you'll notice that most of the snow is going to be to the south of philadelphia. starting to move into parts of millville. just to the north of atlantic city. it will not be until 7:00, 8:00 that we start to see the changeover taking place for atlantic city right along the shore. one of the last places to switch over will be cape may. dover will be seeing accumulating snow at that time. closer to your lunchtime hour all of the dark blue you see here on our computer model, that is more of a moderate to heavy snow coming down. that's accumulating snow. and if you notice most of the snow is going to happen in this region right here. wilmington stretching all the way to new mount holly. millville also included. that's the bull's-eye of the ice tell system.
4:03 am
this is what i was referring to. you can see by dover stretching out to camden gloucester burlington that's a six to nine-inch rain. that's where we'll see our most impressive snowfall amounts. four to seven. most of our suburb locations. and then closer to the lehigh valley, that's where we are going to see two to four inches. so typically with these systems those are the areas that see more snow. the poconos and lehigh valley, that is not the case with this system. it's going to be situated mainly to south jersey. i'll go over all the details about what you can expect in your neighborhood, how much snow coming up when i see you again. but for now let's take a closer look at the roads with jillian mele watching for any trouble spots. >> good morning, britney. in the lehigh valley this is route 22 at airport road. and the roads are just wet so far. same thing goes for i-78 and 295. headed to bucks county you see that light snowfall coming down. this is a live look. 202 parkway and bristol road. again, the roads are wet.
4:04 am
same thing in center city philadelphia. vine street expressway, free of any accidents, which is good news. it is quiet as far as traffic goes on the highways. not dealing with any delays. and no big accidents out there at all. for drivers in delaware if you're heading out the door, this is what it looks like on 495 right at philadelphia pike. 495 is quiet as far as the traffic goes. and same thing for the majors in new jersey. tracy? our first alert team coverage continues with nbc 10's katiey zachry live in pottstown where it's been snowing for about an hour. tell us what the conditions are like. actually we can see them, those are pretty big flakes. >> reporter: yeah they are pretty big flakes. you can see how quickly they're coming down. the changes in the last half hour tracy, the temperature has gotten a degree colder. it's at 32 right at the freezing mark. because of that the snow is sticking to surfaces now sidewalks, parking lots. not the major roads. that's pretty much clear of any accumulation. but in terms of accumulation
4:05 am
you have a slight dusting on the surfaces i just mentioned. and also on surfaced where we have snow piles from storms over the last few days and weeks that we've had. so here up in pottstown and throughout montgomery county schools are already closed or delayed. i've been checking in on pottstown schools haven't gotten an answer on that definitively, but throughout montgomery county, school officials have already called for closures or delays because of the storm coming through. and right now in the last few minutes, we're really seeing the effects of it. it's leaving its mark and it's not leaving any time soon. we know it's going to be like this over the next few hours. so we're going to monitor the conditions. right now the snow is picking up. the flakes are bigger and it's getting colder. reporting live in pottstown, katy zachry. we take you to the poconos. the rain changed over to snow first north and west of philadelphia. so we saw snow earlier this morning here at camelback. we're still seeing some flakes. this is a live look at the ski resort.
4:06 am
they will have no need to make it today because it's coming from mother nature. let's show you another live picture to give you an idea of the conditions. this is south philadelphia where the changeover happening over the last 45 minutes. the roads are still just wet because it's so warm. but the temperatures are starting to drop. also nchltsbc on henry avenue in roxboro overnight. philadelphia's snow emergency goes into effect in a couple hours at 6:00 a.m. which means you have to get your car out of those designated snow emergency routes or the city will tow them. nbc 10's monique braxton is live another snow emergency route, cottman avenue. monique, what are you seeing right now? >> reporter: hi, tracy. in the past 10 or 15 minutes the cold rain now has an icy component. we're along the snow route here on cottman avenue. you can see that there are still two cars. another one down the block, a third car. they all need to be out of here by 6:00. i checked with the philadelphia parking authority before i went
4:07 am
to bed last night to get an update so we'd have that information for you this morning. they told us there will be three lots across the city, and at those three lots can you park 24 hours for a flat rate of $5. we'll have that list for you on our website. also on nbc news app. over to the left here my photographer, wayne wright has been busy with me. you can see folks have their trash out. they also have their curbside recycling out. that has been canceled for the day according to the city. they're asking that residents will hold this until next week. friday collections must be set at curbside for pickup and no rear drive collection friday and all of next week. and that of course is to allow the plows a chance to clear the streets and then clear those back driveways behind these houses here that you see in mayfair. now, i also learned from the streets department that as of midnight they had about 350
4:08 am
pieces of equipment ready to roll when the snow begins to fall. they're going to do the snow emergency route first. their primary roads, the secondary roads and then of course the residential streets. now, we've been monitoring the school conditions here. as tracy mentioned, more than 200 schools are already closed. we're awaiting a call -- return call now from philadelphia and the archdiocese. we'll have that for you coming up in the next half hour. live for now from mayfair, monique braxton nbc 10 news. now let's look at camden. here's a live look. new jersey governor christie went on twitter last night to declare a state of emergency in new jersey which means the state can work with local governments. christie urged people to stay off the roads as much as possible. also state offices in new jersey will delay opening until 11:00 this morning. camden county is prepared workers delivered 1,000en tos s tons of salt there yesterday.
4:09 am
crews reported at midnight to begin hitting the road with salt trucks and plows. now let's get you updated on that changeover and the drop in temperatures. first alert meteorologist britney shipp is tracking the storm as the rain changes over to snow. britney? >> that's right, i'm tracking exactly where that's happening. if you take a closer look at our radar, if you're closer to cherry hill you're seeing rain but shortly it's going to be switching over to snowfall. we're starting to see that changeover. and then as we take a closer look at national park it is mainly rain right now but it is going to change over. as we take a closer look atop of comcast center tower, you can see it's mainly raindrops coming down. but shortly once again our radar showing us that that changeover is taking place right now. into marlboro same thing. the snow is just starting in those regions. and then as we take a closer look right along south jersey and the shore, it's mainly rainfall. closer to the lehigh valley and
4:10 am
the poconos, mainly snow. so we're watching as the snow continues to transition from the northern parts of our area to the southern parts. but it is going to take a while as we head into the rest of your morning hours. so closer to 5:00 6:00 that's when we'll start to see most of the snow just to the south of philadelphia. but it will not be until 7:00, 8:00 in the morning that we see the snow changing over in atlantic city and also stretching into cape may. but once this system gets going, we are going to see most of the accumulating snow in south jersey just to the north of the shore. philadelphia's going to pick up four to seven inches. and we'll see our least amounts closer to the poconos in the lehigh valley. so that's unusual for us. those are normally the locations that see the most snowfall. by 6:00 p.m. we start to see the snow tapering off, which is a good thing as you head home from work. you will notice our temperatures will drop down into the low 20s by 9:00 10:00 at night. it's going to stay that way into friday. two to four inches for the lehigh valley. allentown, bethlehem, reading,

all in that range. four to seven doylestown pottstown. if you are closer to gloucester county camden county, burlington county, that's six to nine inches. newcastle county all included. four to seven inches. our impact for today includes falling temperatures and also bitter cold conditions expected tomorrow. i'll go over more details when i see you again. tracy? >> britney, thanks for that. is nothing is sticking on the roads now because it's been so warm but conditions will be changing. jillian mele is following that. >> i have a feeling conditions will change throughout the rush hour. this is our radar. as i zoom this into norristown the shades of the darker blue that's the snowfall that's already changed over from rain to snow. as we pull this live camera out right from that location, this is the mid-county toll plaza. you see the roads are still wet. even though we are seeing that
4:12 am
