i'm chris cato. let's begin with meteorologist brittney shipp. it's warmer out there, too. it is warmer. we are seeing a few lingering showers and foggy conditions. those are the conditions that you see heading to work. this afternoon it's going to be nice and mild with temperatures into the 60s. but a live look outside right now is cape may. take it easy as you head to work this morning. 46 degrees in philadelphia. 42 in pottstown. 37 in allentown. mid-40s in cape may. take a closer look at the foggy conditions, visibility is down to a quarter mile in allentown. one mile in reading. lancaster is seeing foggy conditions. philadelphia is down to four miles. three miles in millville. one mile in atlantic city. we have a fog advisory in effect until 6:00 a.m. definitely be careful and take it easy. there's a look at the lingering showers. heading throughout the rest of the day, expect temperatures to range between 58 and 51. early showers and fog. then clearing and mild conditions to end for us on this wednesday. it will be a nice afternoon.

now we'll check in with first alert traffic reporter jillian mele for trouble spots on the road. no serious accidents to report. we have fog in the area and the roads are wet this morning, so slow down and take your time. this is route 309 near the pennsylvania turnpike near fort washington montgomery county. 309 is quiet and so is the pennsylvania turnpike. checking your travel times on route 202, it's average start starting. a man is in custody after he tried to firebomb a home around 2:30 this morning on palmetto street. the police caught the suspect a few blocks away thanks to a witness who saw him running from the scene. the atf and homeland security were notified. nobody was injured. today kathleen cain will be inside a philadelphia courtroom to watch a supreme court hearing about her criminal case. nbc 10's katy zachry is live

outside city hall where the hearing is going to take place with what to expect today. katie? >> reporter: kathleen cain is going to be inside city hall here today because she wants to hear the arguments against her. so later today the state supreme court will consider whether a judge had the authority to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the attorney general. the investigation centered around whether cain's office gave secret grand jury materials to a newspaper. the grand jury run by special prosecutor thomas carluccio has recommended she be charged with perjury. ahead of today we contacted the lawyer representative kathleen cain to find out his thoughts. i'll share that you at 4:30. reporting live in front of city hall katy zachry "nbc 10 news." six public figures from philadelphia are charged in a corruption investigation that attorney general cain did not pursue. louis bishop and michelle

brownley and harold james turned themselves in yesterday accused of taking bribes from a lobbyist working undercover for prosecutors. philadelphia's district attorney took up this investigation after cain dropped it because she said it was motivated by racism and politics. >> i am insulted when someone would allege something to be racist. when they know it is not. >> now cain has previously said that the probe was too flawed to yield any conviction. the others charged in this case are representatives ron waters and vanessa lowery brown and thomas tine who pleaded guilty and is serving two years in prison. 4:04. heads are still spinning this morning and some people are scratching those heads after another surprising trade by eagles' coach chip kelly. the team is now quarterback with

the st. louis rams. we are live with more on this move and what fans are saying about it. tracy? >> reporter: you're right. fans are not happy with chip kelly's decision going, huh? let's go to the details of the trade. the eagles get sam bradford plus the rams' fifth draft pick this year. bradford missed two of the last seasons including last year. in exchange the eagles are giving up draft picks. nick foles made the playoffs in the pro bowl. they had the best quarterback rating in the nfl in his first year under chip kelly but had a broken clavicle most of last year. we asked fans what they think about this decision and most were unable to grasp trading fole. >> what if he's wrong? >> i don't think anybody will be

happy and he won't be here long if he is. >> he said he thinks outside the box, but i think he should have kept him. >> you're not standing behind him? >> no. >> and it's still unclear if bradford will be quarterback or if he'll be used as a chip to get marcus mariotta. tracy davidson "nbc 10 news." >> another possible chip for chip. thank you. 4:06 now. jurors in the retrial of a philadelphia priest are accused of molesting an altar boy. they will continue deliberating today even though it appears they have reached an impasse. edward mccormick was first tried last year but the jury couldn't reach a jury then after four days of deliberation. mccormick assaulted the boy in 1997 when the boy was 11. the archdiocese of philadelphia says mccormick is onned a min stray stray administrative leave after

another accusation was brought against him. mark hottsteyer took a teen girl to his apartment and had sex with free. he was freed last month. and dash cam video from december shows warwich officers stopping jeffrey hamilton who smelled like alcohol, had slurred speech and failed three sobriety tests. in the video hamilton is heard asking the officers to call the mayor of warwich township which the officers did not do. and one of these officers is accused of stealing thousands of dollars and the chief is under investigation after a security worker says he dropped his pants in front of her. the woman's lawyer said last thursday she was working at the entrance to the public safety

building when she asked chief dennis brooks to remove metal from his pockets to go through screening. >> at that point chief brooks undid his belt pulled down his pants and told the client he was having a bad day. >> standing there in his underwear? >> standing through in his underwear. one of the highest ranking members of government. >> the security worker has not said if she'll file a lawsuit but she does want brooks to be reprimand reprimanded. we have made several attempts to get the fire chief's story but we have not received a response from him. not far away in margate a firefighter is charged with stealing thousands of dollars from his union. michael palmer stole more than $75,000 from the margate fireman's union. he took that between 2011 and 2014 while the union treasurer. he was suspended last year after prosecutors were notified about the irregularities in the union's bank account.

good morning. as we head into the rest of this wednesday, we are going to see warm conditions. as you can see from the shot there at cape may, it's a soggy start to the morning and a foggy start. we'll see the fog advisory in effect until 6:00 a.m. and then we'll start to see a little more clearing and mild conditions to settle in for us once again. temperatures yesterday close to 60 degrees and we'll see the same again today. so there's a closer look at how foggy it is in allentown. down to one mile in reading. six in pottstown. four in philadelphia. three in millville. for atlantic city we're down to about one mile and three miles for mount holly. we have cloudy conditions and a few lingering showers moving into parts of south jersey at this time. but we should pretty much be done with all the isolated showers within the next hour or so. stepping out the door a fairly mild start. 46 degrees in philadelphia. 42 in pottstown.

47 in allentown. temperatures in the pocanos at 40 degrees. for the rest of today, we'll see our temperatures warming into the 60s. 60 degrees today and we'll stay clear, nice and dry. but i'm tracking another round of rain getting closer to the weekend. i'll have the seven-day forecast coming up in ten minutes. temps in the 60s, how about that? ten minutes after 4:00 this morning. as brittney said there's a fog advisory. we'll see if that's causing trouble for people out there on the roads this morning. jillian mele is watching that for us. good morning. temps in the 60s, we'll take that any day. that sounds fantastic. good news on the roads with no serious accidents. we have wet roads out there and are dealing with a bit of fog, so slow down and take your time. this is what it looks like along 95 at route 413. you can see as far as traffic goes, there's none out there right now. so it is a quiet start for most of the area highways. in fact, the drive times on the northeast extension are looking good both ways between quakertown and the mid-county interchange. 21 to 22 minutes average speeds in the 60s.

60s. can you believe it? a couple weeks ago it was 6. now 60 today. a nice change. new this morning, there's more fallout from the deadly police shooting in ferguson missouri. the city manager john shaw resigned last night. his resignation comes after a justice department review found patterns of racial bias in the police department and in the city offices. in shaw's resignation letter he said his office never instructed police to target african-americans. this morning members of the fraternity at the university of oklahoma are out of a place to stay. their frat house was closed amid a scandal over a racist video. that video shows members of the sigma alpha epsilon chanting. one of the students in the video issued a statement reading in part, quote, this is a devastating lesson and i am seeking guidance on how i can

learn from this and make sure it never happens again. my goal for the long term is to be a man who has the heart and courage to reject racism wherever i see or experience it in the future. 4:15 now. happening today, a court date for the man charged with assassinating a coworker at her bus stop in north philadelphia. randolph sanders facing a preliminary hearing charged in the murder of kim jones in january happening at the corner of 12th street. jones was about to report him to dhs for mismanaging money at the nonprofit agency where they both worked. this morning a philadelphia man is charged with leaving his young son alone in the car while he went to play blackjack. brian boles was arrested after leaving his 7-year-old in the car while he went inside to gamble. a passerby noticed the child

crying in the parked car for his father and called police. >> that's just unfathomable. i wouldn't leave a dog or cat in the car let alone a child. >> police believe the boy was alone for about 45 minutes before they found his father. boles is charged with endanger endangering the welfare of a child. a truck driver accused of hitting a pennsylvania worker is out on bail this morning. he's facing homicide by vehicle charges in the death of road worker bill debogan. he's accused of crashing his tractor-trailer into construction vehicles and has this message for other drivers. >> be careful on the roads. it's a very serious charge. and anybody can be where i'm at right now. so slow down. >> jenson has a preliminary hearing set for march 24th.

the families of another injured worker didn't want to talk to us on camera. a coworker will be arraigned today for allegedly beating a man to death at a camden trucking company. police arrested antonio cunningham yesterday for the murder of harry hogans jr. who was found two weeks ago inside a break room at the river road trucking company. prosecutors believe cunningham killed him and then ran away with company money. 4:17 now. today pennsylvania lawmakers will hear from politicians, labor experts and clergy among others at a hearing in philadelphia on bills to raise the minimum wage. that starts at 10:00 at temple university. the bills would increase the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour and also raise the minimum for workers who make tips to 70% of that $10.10. pennsylvania governor tom wolf is on board with raising the minimum wage. he supports the $10.10 increase

and supports future minimum wage increases tied to a cost of living index. well we'll find out today who will make up the committee for the world meeting of families in philadelphia. that committee chairs and vice-chairs for the week-long conference in september will be announced later this morning. now in just about six months the world family meeting conference will be held ending with a mass with pope francis presiding over the mass. a million and a half people are expected to come to philadelphia for that. businesses in this area are already cashing in on the benefits of the pope's visit later this year. the moravian tile works in bucks county had a big boom after pennsylvania's former governor tom corbett and his wife gave tiles from that company to the pope during a visit to the vatican last march. >> we are months behind in filling orders. so in anticipation of a large demand this time we've started production way ahead and are

plan that could be good news for tourists and state business owners. the small business administration led a tour of wilmington's south ridge neighborhood yesterday. if this is a key spot on the underground railroad harriet tubman led thousands of slaves north from the maryland state line in kent county. officials are working on a plan to better mark the tubman byway. >> the message is clear. we can all tout history in opening our doors to tourists and additional businesses along the way. >> the project would highlight businesses where tourists can shop and eat along the byway. the small business administration is expected to start brainstorming some sessions soon. we'll keep you posted. and speaking of tourism, one jersey shore beach will be getting bigger sooner than anticipated. work on a beach widening project in long beach island will start next month. it was originally planned for august but the equipment became available earlier than expected.
