breaking news we're following for you. an overturned truck at the base of the ben franklin bridge could mean a traffic mess for the morning commute. we're monitoring the cleanup and the backups. new this morning, development in the case of a man murdered while walking his dog. and winter's last stand. the nbc 10 first alert radar tracking a late season snowstorm that will hit our area tomorrow. it's 4:00 a.m. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." let's find out more about what will happen in the weather today. and bill henley with the first alert forecast. >> it's going to be a sharp contrast between today and tomorrow. today, we'll see lots of sunshine. tomorrow, we'll be dealing with that. that rain that is to our southwest will be moving into colder air, and it will arrive here tomorrow morning as snow.

but today, we will stay dry. and with clear skies, it's cold this morning. 29 right now in philadelphia. 25 in trenton. and wilmington it's 29 degrees. the temperatures are coming down in a hurry with very light wind. windchill not a factor this morning. sunshine, we'll be nice and bright by 9:00 up to 34 degrees, upper 30s near 40 degrees at lunchtime. we'll feel warmer with less wind. we'll go through the forecast hour by hour with a future weather showing you when the snow will be moving in tomorrow. that's when i'm back in ten. >> thanks. this overturned tractor-trailer is still impacting drivers. coming from new jersey into philadelphia this morning, the big rig flipped over on 676 and 5th street around 8:00 last night. two people in the truck are fine, but this could create a huge backup later this morning. monitoring the impact for drivers. >> well this video is from sky force 10 they took this last night.

and you can see, even though it wasn't rush hour it was causing a backup on the ben franklin bridge. and it is going to cause problems this morning. let's take a live look. we have another view. you're going to have to take a look through the trees of where that truck is. and again, through the trees here, that's that tractor-trailer on the base of the ben franklin bridge. this camera is looking through that. and those, that truck is headed into camden. that side is okay but from this side, there are some lane blockages. i want to show you a twitter update from the drpa they sent out. and says the ben franklin bridge travel alert expect major delays into philadelphia. that overturned tractor-trailer has traffic reduced to one lane. you're detoured to the fifth street exit. westbound, you're going to see those problems on the ben franklin bridge. you'll want to use betsy ross or the walt whitman. >> we have new developments into the investigation of the murder of a father killed while walking his dog. overnight, police told us they are questioning two new people. no charges have been filed. last night, detectives let four

people go after questioning. james stoolman was shot to death last thursday night. investigators think robbery was the motive. it's 4:03. a high school football coach will have to report to delaware6÷ county prison following his guilty plea to dui charges. police arrested gallagher last year after they say he took off after an accident in prospect park. officers say they smelled alcohol on his breath and found an open bottle of beer in his car. the football coach must serve at least 72 hours in jail and pay $1,400 in fines and fees. his attorney says gallagher expects to be back coaching football in the fall. this is breaking news into nbc 10. a house fire in new castle county, we are live on the scene. this is pike creek. this started around 2:00 this morning, and firefighters say flames were shooting out of the house when they got there. you can see what it looks like right now as firefighters still on the scene there. and the smoke. and we're working to find out if

anybody was hurt. we'll bring you that information as soon as we get it. now from our south jersey bureau. school officials in pallsboro will decide whether or not to open the high school today. yesterday, fumes made more than a dozen students and staff there sick. a plant spokesperson tells nbc 10 there was a leak in a tank storing partially refined oil. and school was dismissed. parents were rushed to the hospital. >> one of my friends had to be carried out on a stretcher because she has really bad asthma and breathing problems. >> kids passing out and getting sick from this. it's just not right. >> the district is checking air quality this morning and will call parents and kids around 5:15 if they decide to keep the school closed. happening today, likely presidential candidate hillary clinton will be in atlantic city to deliver a keynote address to a conference for summer camp professionals. matt delucia is live. any reason she's speaking to

this particular group? >> reporter: well it's something you wouldn't think would have any political relevance, but it comes at a critical time when eyes are on her for a possible presidential run. the president of the american camping association says that hillary clinton will be speaking here because she's a strong advocate for early childhood education and youth development. and this is the largest conference for camp professionals in the world. so she will have a large audience when she speaks here this afternoon. we already see some national media out here by the atlantic city convention center. now, coming up in the next hour i spoke with a political analyst. what could this really mean? would this help a possible run for the presidency and how? those are questions i'm getting answered. and we'll see you again in the 5:00 hour. for now, though live in atlantic city, nbc 10 news. >> thanks. it's 4:05. from our delaware bureau dennis williams will deliver his state of the city address and present a budget to city council tonight.

we'll find out if the budget includes an increase in funding to fight crime. as you may know, a rise in deadly shootings prompted news week to dub wilmington murder town usa. we'll learn more today about an investigation of the cape may police department. officials say the investigation is administrative not criminal. but prompted one council member to abruptly quit his post. later this morning, the mayor and other city officials will hold a briefing about the police department investigation. the president of penn state university is calling the actions of one fraternity sad and defensive. and he says it's the kind of behavior that can get some students expelled. allegedly operated a private facebook page where members posted pictures of nude and partially nude women who appeared to be asleep or passed out. national leaders of the frat suspended the penn state chapter for a year. and police in penn state at penn state in state college are investigating.

meantime graham spannier filed a defamation lawsuit. it's over the report on the jerry sandusky child sex abuse scandal. spannier is still awaiting a criminal trial. the former head of a chester county school district goes to court today on charges of theft and ethics violations. richard como is the former superintendent of the coatesville school district. he's charged with hiring unqualified friends and family and diverting money from student council and other school sources to pay for championship football rings. como resigned in 2013 after school officials found racist and sexist texts about students and staff on his district issued cell phone. got a cold start this morning. but skies are clear.

the temperatures have come down lower than what we saw yesterday morning, and the chill is going to stay with us during the day. but we'll see a lot of sunshine. so it's going to feel warmer thanks to lighter winds during the day. then, tomorrow morning, we've got snow tracking into the area and staying for much of the day. but there aren't going to be rain drops mixing in with that snow. and it's going to be a wet snow because the temperatures for much of the day are going to be above freezing. right now, it is solidly below freezing. look at these numbers. 22 degrees right now in doylestown. philadelphia international is at 29 and cape may is below freezing right now. the pocono mountains, areas north and west tomorrow, we'll see more snow than philadelphia but we'll see some snowflakes falling in philadelphia too. satellite shows we are in the clear right now. but you can see what's coming. the clouds are to our southwest, those high clouds over west virginia, and the deep south. this is where rain is falling. but only rain right now. it's warmer to the southwest.

and this afternoon, we'll be warmer, we'll be in the 40s. but you can see the cooldown by 1:00 in the morning. we'll be above freezing. it's not going to be as cold as it is this morning with the first high clouds moving into the area. then, during the morning commute, we'll likely see the first snowflakes in parts of the area. 8:00 in the morning, you can see lancaster getting light snowfall, into southern chester county. and new castle county and delaware could see a mix of rain and snow. and 35 degrees. the temperatures come up as the snow moves in during the morning hours. so we'll see hours, potentially hours of snowfall with minimal accumulation as it'll just be too warm. but during the afternoon, those temperatures start ctñ and that's where we're going to see greater accumulation in the area. but today, you'll see sunshine. in fact, don't forget to take your sunglasses with you. you'll certainly have to bundle up this morning. but the sunshine like yesterday is going to be brilliant with temperatures into the 40s. and the weekend, still looking pretty good.

we will see fog saturday morning, we'll break out into sunshine in the afternoon and the temperatures will be in the 50s. then turns colder on sunday. a look at how much snow we may be in for tomorrow when i come back in ten minutes. >> all right, bill thanks. it's ten after 4:00 right now. an overturned tractor-trailer is threatening to make the morning commute a mess for thousands of drivers. you see it there, it flipped over on 676, about eight hours ago, crews are working to unload the big rig before it can be uprighted. but that will be the morning challenge. christine maddela smon or thinge ing monitoring the impact right now. >> everything it was hauling there, whenever something like that happens crews have to come in and unload the tractor-trailer on to another tractor-trailer before they can even begin the process of righting that and towing it out of the way. and this is video from last night, so you can see how it caused a bottleneck outside of rush hour times. so westbound, you will expect

delays any time right now, there's just not a lot of volume out there, but any time this morning, you can expect some delays because crews are still blocking lanes due to that. the ben franklin bridge westbound is not closed, but it is going to be slow. you want to use the betsy ross or the walt whitman to get around that. nearby, this is interstate 95. it's not impacting any traffic on interstate 95 at this hour and i'm going to keep a close eye on that and make sure that we follow every development as it becomes available. tracy? >> all right, christine, thanks. a treekfreak accident is responsible for killing a bride to be. plus a pregnant woman is lured into a deadly trap. the craigslist post which was really an effort to steal her unborn baby. the falling ingmore on the unforgettable experience that the sixers gave him last night.

nbc 10 is live on the scene of breaking news in new castle county this morning. this is a house fire in pike creek along merrimore court. you can see, a number of firefighters still on scene. putting out hot spots. new from overnight, two people are dead and several people are injured after a shooting inside a restaurant in sweden. in the suburbs of gothenberg.

two men went into the restaurant started shooting with automatic weapons. police are questioning several people. authorities say there are indications the shooting was gang related. colorado police have arrested a woman who allegedly stabbed a pregnant woman and cut her baby from her womb. investigators say the suspect went to the victim's home to buy baby clothes advertised on craigslist. that's when police say the attack happened. they say the suspect went to the hospital with the baby claiming she suffered a miscarriage. officials say the victim is expected to recover, but the baby died. here at home philadelphia police say a murder in the laundry mat. this one last month, was an execution. they released the surveillance video of the crime wednesday in hopes of catching the gunman. he was wearing a philadelphia water department hat and jacket when he shot eric norman to death. the victim was in the laundry mat buying a lottery ticket, something he did every day. we have new information this morning, the case of robert

durst, the heir to a real estate empire and a suspect in at least one murder. a source familiar with the investigation says police department's handling unsolved murders with connections to durst have been reaching out to other law enforcement agencies trying to revisit cases and share information. durst has been moved to a state prison in louisville with a mental health unit because he is now considered a suicide risk. he's in custody on gun charges while waiting to be transferred to los angeles to face murder charges in the death of his friend susan berman. durst is a graduate of lehigh university and had a brush with the law in our area back in 2001. police arrested him from stealing a sandwich. at the time durst was on the run from authorities in texas for the murder of his elderly neighbor. an accident caused by wind killed a woman from philadelphia. she was known to her friends as tina. the 37-year-old was walking, talking on her cell phone in new york city when a sheet of

plywood blew off a construction site and hit her on tuesday. she fell and hit her head on a wall of a parking garage. she moved to new york from philadelphia eight months ago. she was planning to get married in july. and her fiancee released this statement saying in part, the family and i have decided to bury her in philadelphia. this is the most devastating loss. she was the woman of my dreams. students of the university of virginia are demanding justice for a classmate injured during an arrest. about a thousand students gathered last night to show support. his lawyer says he needed ten stitches in his head after the incident that happened early yesterday morning. here is video of johnson from a few weeks ago. now, an alcoholic beverage control agent said he was agitated and belligerent at the time of his arrest. johnson is charged with obstruction of justice without force and public swearing.

virginia's governor is calling for an investigation. a woman wants to know exactly what led wilmington police officers to shoot her brother. and she turned to nbc 10 for help. marvin jones is paralyzed from the neck down. in january, police told us that he had shot at officers during a traffic stop in wilmington then the officers shot him. they later admitted that jones never fired a shot, though he did have a gun. documents show police shot him during a struggle where they say he pointed the gun at them. jones' family still doesn't believe they know the whole story. >> did not shoot the police. he didn't shoot at the police. the police shot him. >> we contacted the attorney general's office. they will launch an investigation once wilmington police finish their investigation. wilmington police tell us the officers are still off the street. an organization for security professionals is honoring the men and women who put their lives on the line every day. nbc 10 last night for the annual law enforcement appreciation

night. 35 men and women from various law enforcement agencies in our area were honored. among them philadelphia police officer brian saba. despite the danger he knows why he has to be out there every night. >> there's somebody else out there that needs help. there's somebody another little kid i can direct in the right path. there's another child i can protect. and that's what i signed up for the job for. >> officerswilson was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in a video game store two weeks ago. one of the men accused of killing wilson is now out of the hospital. nbc 10 learned that carlton hipps is now in jail. he was wounded during the attempted robbery. hipps had been restrained with handcuffs at the hospital. and they arrested his brother at the scene. both face murder and attempted robbery charges.

they're due back in court next week. meantime the 76ers gave wilson's 10-year-old a night to remember. they gave him a tour and a few gifts before last night's game against the detroit pistons at the wells fargo center. and jason richardson took him into the locker room to meet the entire team. clear skies this morning, and cold. a clear view looking across the delaware of center city with temperatures in the 20s right now. the cold will be easing during the day. like yesterday, we'll see a lot of sunshine. we're running 5 degrees colder right now compared to yesterday morning. good news is the wind has really died down this morning. so it doesn't feel as cold as yesterday. could see 6 inches of snow in some of the pocono mountains tomorrow by the end of the storm system that's coming our way. this morning, we are in the clear. but you can see the storm making some steady progress. this is over texas yesterday. now it's moving through

kentucky, tennessee, into the deep south, and it's going to slowly move our way. it's going to take a good deal of time to move in. but once it does, we will see accumulating snow. it's going to be a long event. we'll see light snow in the morning, but by the time this system is done with us late in the day tomorrow 3 to 6 inches of snow possible for the allentown area into the pocono mountains. and the philadelphia area wilmington trenton, into norristown, 1 to 3 inches of wet snow. not going to see it all at once you'll see light, wet snow during the morning hours, but by the time this one is done there may be some shoveling to do. and then it's going to be a good deal of rain to the south and east. and it may be mixing in the snow. that will really limit any accumulation. might see a slushy mess an inch or less for areas farther south and east. but you won't see the snow today. we'll enjoy lots of sunshine and the temperatures will be climbing. upper 30s at lunchtime and middle 40s this afternoon.

full 7-day forecast coming up in the next half an hour. >> all right, bill, thanks. 4:22 right now. let's check traffic if you're heading out the door. we know at least one major problem that will likely be there through the morning rush. christine christine, tell us more. >> an overturned tractor-trailer on the westbound side heading into philadelphia. and here's a live look at the bridge right now. you can see traffic is moving. so the westbound lanes and the eastbound lanes are not closed. but on the westbound side, there are lanes blocked due to that tractor-trailer. at this hour there's not a lot of volume. traffic is getting by. i want to show you a tweet from the drpa. you can expect major delays overturned tractor-trailer has traffic reduced down to one lane and detoured on to the 5th street exit. if you are taking the ben franklin bridge you want to detour on to that 5th street exit out there. be aware that's out there, especially as we move into the morning rush. you will see traffic start to back up.
