7:04 am
20 freezing rain from surabaya to singapore. did we find out what caused that plane to go down? >> off the top of my head i don't know. this plane is just very, very commonly flown around the world and i have been to the airbus factories in france and they will tell you we build planes for all of the world to fly, not just the best and the brightest that come out of the world air forces. we build them for pilot who is may not be topical ber. this is concerning. >> he may have gotten a distress call. >> they had an incident of some sort. whether it was -- my concern is that a single engine failure will generally not bring down an aircraft these days. you would have to be looking at

a catastrophic event whether that would be both engines were lost or keeping in mind that birds don't fly at 34,000 feet. whether it's sort of a criminal event. we simply don't know. >> tom costello thank you very much. once again we know that an airbus a-320 has crashed somewhere in the french alps on a flight from barcelona to d uss eldorf being operated by german wings airlines. let us cause and give other stations a chance to trourn their regular programming. . good morning. joining the "today" show. another big story we will continue to follow the plane crash we have been reporting leaving from barcelona to d uss eldorf but another breaking story overnight coming in the

their reporting and now police say there is no evidence to back up the original claims. gabe gutierrez is in chaf lotsville. >> reporter: they spoke with about 70 people during the investigation that lasted several months that has been suspended, but not closed. police can't rule out something terrible happened, but just not what was described. the university accused of gang rape is exploring legal options saying rolling stone sought to turn fiction into fact is shameful. >> can i say that nothing happened? no. we found no evidence to support the allegations. >> those allegations published in the rolling stone magazine. a woman identified as jackie claiming she was sexually assaulted in 2012. >> there is a chance the entire thing is false. >> this is one of the jackie's former friends.
7:10 am
>> jackie's accountable has been in question for a long time. they called in the chief saying he couldn't find evidence either that was no big surprise. >> in april of last year jackie's roommate removed broken glass from her face in a separate assault, but the roommate denies that. jackie said he called her mother but there was no evidence about that call. >> it's never been just about the details of jackie's story. there hundreds of other survivors and we want to make sure we have as few in the future as we can. >> the investigation confirms that the university provided support and care to a student in need. but now some advocates worry it will be tougher for future victims. >> this is a bad day for all rape victims. it will be harder for the victims to be believed when they are raped. >> reporter: the attorney for jackie declined to comment.

the country around. >> you are not someone who speaks the spotlight. you don't do interviews and i am happy you decided to do this interview. are you ready for the personal scrutiny that this will bring and in some ways already has. >> any time you embark upon something bigger than yourself and your own family i don't know that you feel fully prepared but we have a very strong marriage and incredibly strong family guided by our faith and we are ready to see change and honored to have a voice. >> you are known for taking on your own party. at one point you called mainstream republicans squishes and led your party into parts that backfired. you have detractors not only across the aisle, but within your own party. how can you win unless you build
7:13 am
a broader coalation than the one you have? >> we need a broad coalition and bring toll the old reagan coalition of evangelicals and republican women and young people and reagan democrats and bring everyone together. one of the things that is striking people are hurting. they recognize the path we are on is not working and looking for a change. they're looking to get back to the principals that made america strong. >> on the subject of a broad coalition, is there room in ted cruz's party for those socially liberal and pro choice and support gay marriage? >> absolutely. we welcome a broad tent and a broad coalition. what i am trying to do is stand for principal. the two things i have tried to do in my time in the senate have been to tell the truth and
7:14 am
number two, do what i pedestrian i would do. the interesting thing is people can respect that even if they don't agree on everything. >> you know your reputation in your short time in the senate. you are a guy who does not back down. who will not compromise. i think you referred to yourself recently i'm kind of like the disruptive act in politics. will you bring that brand to the white house if you are elected? >> let me disagree with the premises. i never said i won't compromise. from day one, i said my attitude is the same as ronald reagan. he said what do you do if you offer half a loaf? you take it and you come back. >> you also said "i don't know what washington needs is more compromise." >> because what washington does often is compromises going backwards. i'm happy to work with anyone democrat independent,
7:15 am
libertarian and republican, if they are shrinking the size of the federal government and expanding liberty. what washington does is has compromises like the bill that passed in december. a trillion dollar spending bill that paid off corporate welfare and special interest in washington and grew government. that's not a good compromise because it's not fixing the problems. >> quickly, you heard the adjectives used to describe your husband. you can read them in the paper. is the public perception of this man inaccurate? >> red cruz is someone who tells the truth and knows what he believes. it was one of the things that drew me to him. this is a person of conviction. i think the american people want to know what they are getting. >> a couple weeks ago you were at an event and using your rhetoric and said the world is on fire. there was a 3-year-old girl up

7:36 am
problems but he is competent. >> what about his mental health and the notion of being on suicide watch? >> he is not suicidal. frankly he is relieved to be able to finally get a chance to get into court on all these rumors that have been swirling around. if we can just get to court in california however we are stuck here in louisiana. it's a nice place to be stuck, but the relatively minor charges compared to the accusation of the murder of susan berman. we top the get to california and try the case. >> i want to talk about the california case in a second but first the bail hearing. you knew your client was not going to be able to post bail. on the other hand he was found with a new cell phone and a fake id and a mask and a gun and a map of the gulf coast including cuba. can you explain that? >> yeah. we have been fighting for

i was going to teach him. >> well said. we have honest answers. we are tackling a topic called sharing. turning to social media to manage the highs and lows. how much is too much? chanel is here with her fellow today parenting team. we have joanne richards and the creator of the blog. good morning to all of you. nice to see you. i like that we have a dad doing it. >> we need more das involved. >> where do you come down on it? >> you like to share on social media? >> when it comes to sharing, it's how you do it. you share the good and the bad. my 4-year-old was trying to pee like daddy was and she is a girl. >> let's figure out why that was a problem. we have to share the good and the bad. we need to see the bad too.
8:43 am
>> chanel, you talked about an occasion and it was helpful. >> sometimes it turns into bragging in some ways as opposed to sharing, but one day, i have two 2-year-olds and a 5-year-old. i wanted to wean them off of pacifiers. i got hundreds of comments of them giving me different ways. people gave me advice. i took the best of all of it and i figure cold turkey doesn't work for me. there was one saturday afternoon i was by myself and they were both screaming. i got my phone and tweeted i'm cracking. i didn't say anything else. people knew who i was talking about. people said hang in there, read books. i tweeted the books are not working. it became a therapy session for me and didn't feel so alone. this morning we are pacifier-free. it felt good. >> you keep it real and that's
8:44 am
why i love to read your writing. there is a good side of sharing and sometimes it can make other parents feel alienated. i don't look like her. i don't have it all perfectly assembled like those that post on facebook seem to. >> they don't share the hard because they think when parenting gets hard they are doing something wrong. that's thenot the case. it's hard especially for those doing it right. i had a decade where i couldn't get my kids to sleep. she might as well ask me to climb mount everest. i i didn't have time. i said i am in the middle of bedtime and i am playing a game of whack a mole. they keep coming out of their rooms. so many people said me too. the advice is not what helped. it's the me too. it's the reassurance of i'm not
