survival -- we will be in recess. that's all for today. we're back next week. a traffic stop turned into the scene of a car crash that sent a car full of people and a police officer to the hospital overnight. we'll tell you how car trouble may have saved the life of that officer's partner. and nbc 10 is on the scene of a deadly plane crash in chester county where federal investigators will arrive later today to figure out what went wrong. and look at this. the workweek is off to a wet and yes, for some of you, snowy start. our live camera in west goshen township catching flakes. but first alert radar is

tracking sun for this day. good morning to you. i'm chris cato. let's go to bill henley and the first alert forecast. we have light snow and rain out there that we're tracking on the radar. the first alert radar shows to the south warmer temperatures producing rain in delaware and in southern chester and lancaster counties. but farther north and west it's cold enough for some snow and the snow is falling. the snow is not going to be accumulating with the exception of the pocano mountains, which are running colder. they could see half an inch of snow in the mountains. steadier snow in berks and lehigh county. pottstown in the middle 30s. rain headed for philadelphia 39 degrees. we'll go through it hour by hour with future weather when i'm back in ten. let's go to christine maddela.

happy monday. we're seeing a lot of green and are not seeing major slowdowns on the pennsylvania turnpike 295 into new jersey. but speaking of new jersey i'm watching a crash on route 31 closed right now in mercer county as olden avenue with an accident involving a downed pole and wires out there. so crews are working to reopen that stretch of the red. just be on the lookout if that's part of your commute. interstate 295 at exit 43 we saw a large crash out here blocking the lanes, but right now everything is looking pretty good. and i'm going to keep an eye on the roads and let you know any delays throughout the morning.christine, new from overnight, fire broke out in camden around 12:30 this morning. firefighters had the flames under control at half an hour. no one was hurt. the cause there still under investigation. now listen to this one, a philadelphia taxi driver is in custody this morning on suspicion of dui after leading police on a chase.

police tell us they saw that driver asleep in a taxi parked on delaware avenue. they say they tried to wake him up but he didn't respond so officers thought he was having a medical emergency and broke the glass trying to get him help. that's when they say he woke up and took off. driving the wrong way down delaware avenue he drove across the platte bridge and then back over the bridge the wrong way. eventually crashing into a van on columbus boulevard. he was taken to the hospital for a cut on his head. we have new information this morning on two stories that were breaking overnight. first of all, a falls township police officer was injured on the side of the road after pulling over a car for a traffic stop. here's what happened, the officer stopped the car for speeding on route 1 north. after that officer got out of his car, his vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. and that crash pushed the police car into the vehicle that he pulled over. now, one person inside that car was injured. the officer was knocked to the ground. >> we are very lucky that our

officer is -- has minor injuries that he does. this is a very bad highway for us and we do a lot of traffic enforcement um here and it is very common for vehicles to be traveling 100 miles plus. >> police say that officer is usually working with a canine but left the dog at home because his suv was broken down and he was driving a different car. they say if the canine had been in the backseat the dog could have been killed. and one person died in the late night crash in burlington county overnight. this video is from one of the traffic cameras mounted over i-295 in mount holly. police say the accident involved a tractor-trailer and car. two lanes were shut down but they are back open this morning. well, this fire has caused problems for septa and septa riders since saturday. but the transit agency says it expects service to be restored on the manioc regional line in time for this morning's commute. the fire ripped through west motherland street in philadelphia over the weekend.

the cause of safety concerns shut down the septa north line. crews had to work throughout the night to get it reopened and now we are waiting to hear from septa on the exact time on when the line will be up and running this morning. we'll let you know. and today federal investigators are expected to arrive at this scene of a deadly plane crash in chester county yesterday. a small plane went down yesterday afternoon near saunders lane in west goshen township two miles from brandywine airport where the plane took off. matt delucia is live at the scene of west goshen. matt, what is happening there now? >> reporter: chris, we do see police out here guarding the area. you can also see the yellow tape that is still surrounding the area where the small plane crashed yesterday afternoon. police along with the faa and ntsb are looking into how this crash happened. here's a look at what it looked like in the daylight hours. of course the investigators will be looking into every piece of the wreckage and every witness account. but witnesses describe to us

hearing strange noises. the small piper single engine plane was sputtering before it nose-dived into the woods. the plane took off as we mentioned from brandywine airport and crashed moments later. there were two men in the plane, both were killed and one of them we are told lives in west goshen. people who live around here say they are thankful the plane didn't hit anyone on the ground. >> very close. so thank god for the pilot but then you know the pilot and his passenger didn't make it, which is sad. sad to hear that the people didn't make it. >> reporter: and the identity of the victims is not being released at this time until family members are notified. of course, we'll be following this investigation throughout the day and the weeks to come. for now, live in west goshen, matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." if you have the nbc 10 app then you know you were one of the first to know about the plane crash yesterday. download the app for free as we send you breaking news alerts as soon as we get new information

about the victims in the crash and the cause. 4:06 now. delaware county authorities expect to file charges this morning in the shooting death of an off-duty darby borough police officer. 26-year-old mark hudson was shot in the chest with his own service weapon inside his home in darby township on saturday. investigators questioned hudson's girlfriend who was at home at the time of the shooting. sources said the couple had a history of domestic problems. friends and family are mourning the loss of a man they call a true public servant. in addition to his full-time job as a police officer, hudson was also a volunteer firefighter. >> he's everybody's friend. he's got this infectious smile and he's just goofy and fun to be around. >> now sources tell us after questioning hudson's girlfriend police took her to the hospital for an unremitted medical issue. we just spoke to the police chief and he says hudson's girlfriend was arraigned overnight on charges from a previous domestic incident but still waiting for confirmation

to see that happen. happening today, opening statements are scheduled to begin in the corruption trial of six former philadelphia narcotics officers. prosecutors say the former officers beat up drug dealers robbing them of cash and drugs and selling some of the drugs. the alleged ring leader thomas likerdello is accused of lingering a man over the balcony. all six pleaded not guilty. >> a prominent bucks county family at the center of a $20 million insurance fraud scheme will face the judge today. that judge will determine if there is enough evidence to send claire risoldi and three of her relatives to trial. she's the alleged mastermind of the insurance scheme that financed an extravagant lifestyle. the scheme involved three fires that broke out at the family's mansion in buckingham over a period of five years. risoldi's husband thomas french killed himself in february two

weeks after his arrest. today students at north penn high school in montgomery county will walk out of class following a nude photo scandal. someone posted inappropriate pictures of girl students on a file sharing website along with the girl's name. organizers want to support the girls violated and mean no disrespect to the school. the school district says it is investigating the file sharing. tracking some wet weather in the area this morning. we are seeing light snow in philadelphia with the rain drops extending north and west. look at the snow moving through berks county and allentown get light snow as well into upper montgomery and upper bucks counties. this is not going to last all day as the showers are on the move. they will be out of here this afternoon. fortunately, temperatures are

above freezing 36 degrees in quakertown and pottstown and reading at 34 degrees. and wilmington is seeing temperatures in the 30s along with the rest of delaware. we'll see them heading for the upper 50s this afternoon. but there's still a chance that we'll see some later morning showers. that's at 9:00. the first round of rain and snow is offshore by then. and here comes some scattered showers, that's at 11:00 this morning. moving into the lehigh valley the pocano mountains and to philadelphia right around lunchtime where it will be spotty showers and then they will be followed by some sunshine. and milder temperatures, too. we'll show you how long that mild weather lasts with the extended future weather when i'm back in ten. ten minutes after 4:00. we have a couple fairly major crashes overnight, but hopefully they are not causing problems this morning. christine maddela is watching traffic for us this morning. christine? >> the major crash on 295 is all clear in mount laurel. but i have a couple crashes to tell you about this morning that are not causing major damage.

lower merion river road and mill creek road. montgomery county authorities are out there right now trying to clean that up. and there is a road closure in mercer county route 31 closed at olden avenue because of the accident involving a downed pole. be on the lookout for that. take a look at interstate 76 at montgomery drive, all clear right now and the road conditions are looking pretty good. we're not seeing a lot of volume this early in the morning. from septa, this twitter update norristown, the high-speed line they are working on overnight. repairs continue throughout the night with normal service anticipated for monday morning rush hour. so that was a few hours ago they sent that update and we'll be checking in with septa on that. chris? christine, a game-changer. this year's baseball season will come with new rules for fans. next, the addition outside the ballpark that will change how you get inside. plus a pennsylvania man falls into this ten-foot sinkhole. we'll tell you what was inside that hole that helped police find him and ultimately saved

we have and update on the peeping tom inside a target store in abington. we first brought you this story last week as a woman spotted someone spying on her. that man went back to the same story on saturday and did the same thing to another woman. target employees called 911 and police caught the man at this time but they have not released his name. a preliminary hearing is set today for this man. 73-year-old bernard rivas is a licensed counselor accused of groping a 14-year-old patient, a girl, at his home office.

investigators say the teen was able to secretly record rivas on two occasions. authorities charged him with child endangerment and indecent assault. and starting today a new push will be made to make food trucks safer after the deadly explosion in north philadelphia last summer to kill a mother and daughter who were working inside the truck. today city council members will hear new testimony on a bill that calls for regular inspections of food trucks including checking the propane tanks on the trucks. last fall several council members tried to get a food truck bill passed but it didn't make it through council. also today, philadelphia's city council will hold a hearing on a bill to target vehicle owners who have been abating the parking system. this revolves around those who don't register their vehicles or illegal license plates. when the cars get tickets, the officials can't reach the owner so they can't be towed. this bill would close the loopholes. happening today at citizens

bank park a security sneak peek. a live look here at the ballpark in south philadelphia where the phillies will get a preview or give us a preview of the enhanced security measures being put in place this season. now later this morning we'll hear from the phillies director of security about what fans should expect to see, some differences when the team returns to town. of course we're one week away from opening day at the ballpark. tracy davidson is live in the digital operations center with more on what we can expect. tracy? >> reporter: right chris. getting into the ballpark will be a different experience for many fans starting next monday. for the first time all fans going into the ballpark will be required to walk through metal detectors before getting into the stadium. last year scanners were put in place at the right field only as part of a pie lot program. the added security is now part of the major league baseball mandate for all teams and all fans subject to metal detection screening and security measures

are in effect for events that take place there like concerts. tracy davidson "nbc 10 news." >> and nbc 10 is your home for the phillies home opener one week from today, april 6. catch the pre-game special "welcome home phillies" at 2:00 p.m. then the phils kick off the season against the boston red sox here on nbc 10. 4:17. happening today in boston, political leaders will help officially dedicate an institute to pay tribute to the late senator ted kennedy. it's called the edward m. kennedy institute of the united states senate. the center's goal is to promote an interest in government and encourage people to take part in politics and inspire a new generation of leaders. after three days of searching, the bodice of two missing men were pulled from the rebel of the new york city building. authorities believe the men were inside a ground floor restaurant at the time of the explosion last week. one man worked there and the other man was on a date at the restaurant. 22 others were injured in

thursday's explosion. investigators believe the explosion was caused by an improperly tapped gas line. well, this morning the red cross is helping seven people who were forced out of their homes after fire tore through an apartment complex. the investigators are still looking for the cause of the fire along east ashmead street in east germantown yesterday. one man had smoke inhalation but is expected to be okay. in north philadelphia a popular bakery had serious damage after a fire there. officials say the fire started in the basement of denise's delicacies early yesterday morning. the fire did not spread to the apartment above the bakery and nobody was hurt. and the threat of a tsunami passed overnight following an earthquake in the south pacific. a 7.7 magnitude quake rocked the town of kokopo in papua new guinea. now they say the tsunami threat has mostly passed. but authorities are still evaluating the impacted area

but at this point there are no reports of injuries. a wildfire continues to threaten homes in montana. that fire already has destroyed one home and has burned at least 3,000 acres in stillwater county. people there have been forced to evacuate. firefighters are battling the fire from the ground and the air. investigators are still trying to figure out how it started. and residents in a missouri town devastated by a tornado in 2011 are helping an oklahoma community deal with a similar disaster. school supplies from joplin missouri, were delivered this weekend to an elementary school in moore, oklahoma. twisters last wednesday killed one person and injured dozens more in that oklahoma town. well, a man used his cell phone to call for help after falling into a sinkhole. the man called 911 from ten feet below ground saturday night. this was in glassport not far from pittsburgh. when crews arrived they gave the man oxygen and rused a rope system to lift him out of the

hole. >> i'm very surprised that he's not injured more than he was. it's definitely dangerous. >> rescuers say the man was very lucky and officials there plan to meet soon to discuss repairs for the sinkhole. and tracking some wet weather moving into the area. it's going to be a rainy/snowy mix to start with this morning, but it won't last all day. a live view of boathouse row in the city 28 degrees and light snow will lightly accumulate in the pocano mountains. look at wilmington 37 degrees and getting very light snow. clouds are over the city this is the view from the comcast center where we are waiting for some rain drops and snowflakes in philadelphia. they are moving in with this cold front that is going to be clearing things out as the day goes on. that's rain to the south, but look at northern delaware into delaware county. philadelphia is just seeing a few sprinkles now in northeast philadelphia. farther north and west this is

where we are seeing the steadier snow move through the allentown area and into upper bucks county to start with. it's really going to be tapering off fairly quickly with the light rain in cumberland and salem counties right now, not looking all that impressive on the radar. and by 4:00 this afternoon, look at this. we've cleared out and temperatures are 56 degrees at 4:00. it will get cold tonight. a pretty good wind will be blowing this afternoon. that will bring the cold air back in tomorrow morning in the lower 30s at 5:00 in the morning. then clouds return with a chance of more rain and farther to the north a possibility of some light snow at 10:00 in the morning. the snow is going to disappear but rain will stick with us as we go into the afternoon hours tomorrow. so if you're heading out the door right now, you may want to take the umbrella but you won't need it later today. in fact, you need sunglasses later on. gusty winds will clear things out and temperatures today are looking mild. but they will be changing as the weak goes on. it's the seven-day forecast in the next half hour. >> a change for the better we're

hoping for, thank you, bill. time to get another check of the roads and see if there's anything popping out to slow you down this morning. nbc 10's christine maddela has a look at the traffic. christine? i want to show you interstate 295 at exit 43 in mount laurel where there's a large accident that occurred overnight, but everything is cleared out of the way. good news for drivers if that is part of your commute this morning. drive times, 95 76 476, the normal problem spots are still in the green right now. not a lot of volume or problems on the major interstates. in lower marion we have an accident on river road and mill creek road. and if you live in mercer county, route 31 is closed at olden avenue with an accident and a downed pole. we're checking with new jersey authorities to see when that will reopen. chris? look at this. philadelphia's love statue got a marshmallow makeover. you're look at the art in westminster, maryland.

a religious film could be open the door to discrimination against members of the lgbt community. this weekend hundreds of demonstrators stood outside the gates of the governor's mansion calling on him to veto the conscious protection bill to protect religious rights and prevent the government from interfering with religionus practices. the protesters say this allows businesses to refuse business to the gay and lesbian community. it now goes to the house for consideration. if passed, the governor plans to sign it. and in camden county senior military leaders honored hundreds of citizen soldiers before their deployment. members of the 32 military police company new jersey army national guard received a soldier sendoff yesterday at cherry hill. they are deploying to guantanamo bay, cuba to provide security for detainees there. we spoke to the father of one soldier. >> oh, yes, the whole family is
