that caused certainly some issues. flash flooding was the issue back through kentucky. in nashville, we also had a lot of tornado warnings surrounding the metro area. especially to the northeast. wind gusts up near 50 to 60 miles per hour. it took down trees and power lines. flooding was an issue because of the heavy downpour was the thunderstorms. you could see it is all clearing out to the east. the cold front is moving offshore but now as cold air wraps in behind this system we are starting to see the snow, especially across central new england. heavy in maine where we will see several inches of snow through the morning and into the afternoon. then it pulls away and things clear out for the holiday on sunday. we will see spotty snowshowers in syracuse as the colder air works in. the big story today is the wind. wind advisories in upstate new york and southern new england. winds gusting 45 to 50 miles per

boat in the middle of the ocean. he is not the first person to make a situation look like all hope is lost. how did he do it? here is nbc's tom costello. >> reporter: it is all the talk. how did 37-year-old louis jordan survive drifl survive drifting in the atlantic for 66 days. despite being at sea for two months still able to walk normally once the chopper landed at the hospital. frank jordan noticed his son lost more than 30 pounds. >> how does he look? >> he's a little thinner. little thinner. he is not emaciated. >> reporter: louis had the energy to sit down for an interview after midnight. >> you look remarkably good. you don't have a sunburn or

blister blistered. >> i tried not to do any work because all work equals food and water. i was trying to ration that. >> reporter: he admits he is a novice sailor. he ventured on a storm and boat capsized and righted itself three times throwing radios and clean water overboard. to survive, he captured rain water, rationed his food. >> they would swim out to my boat and i could scoop them up. >> reporter: there have about other amazing tales at sea, last year a storm had blown his boat across the pacific adrift for more than a year. and louis survived 47 days on the raft in the pacific. louis jordan said he survived because he was able to stay in the boat and out of the weather which his rescuers say was brutal. >> if it was anything to what we

the fda and will reopen the plant after the investigation is complete and make improvements. two men in custody after a wild brawl in new york city. police arrived at the resort world casino in queens to find hundreds of people throwing punches and throwing other objects. there were minor injuries. and an alabama man is enjoying the first full day of freedom today for the first time in 30 years. anthony ray hinton walked out of prison on friday after the evidence against him was discredited. he was convicted of a double murder in 1985. hinton thanked god and his lawyer and had a message for those responsible for putting him behind bars. >> when you seek the high and mighty you don't is have to answer to nobody. i got news for you. everybody playing a part you will answer to god. >> the 58-year-old spent more than half his life in prison.

to sharks spotted off the atlantic florida coast. swimming north earlier this week. the photographer said they swam for a mile. and in florida, a man recovering from a shark bite to his chest. he was spear fishing when he was attacked. he believe it was a bull shark. a big announcement from tiger woods. he will play in the masters next week. the four-time masters champion has been away from golf for two months after several disastrous starts. woods is 39 years old and had back surgery. it is the premier golf tournament. he said quote it is obviously very important to me and i want to be there. >> his 20th masters start. >> 20th? >> this will be his 20th. he never missed the cut. a lot of folks say if he misses the cut, that could be it. >> it as in the end of the career? >> perhaps. >> don't count him out.

this morning in our series "run for today" as you know getting out the door is the big hurdle. >> for some women, a brightly colored flower is inspiring them to lace up for run. many have never met and now it is 25,000 strong. it all started with a dozen friends and a birthday. >> four years ago, tori was gearing up for a half marathon when she had an idea. >> i always loved to gather women and i thought why not send it out there and see if all my nearest could get together and run with me. >> reporter: despite training in different cities the group found a connection. exchanging e-mails. >> most often it had very little to do with the miles and more
