cloistered nuns are star struck. he's graced the cover of mag magazines magazines, named "times's" person of the year. a new "wall street journal" poll shows 55% of americans have a positive or very positive view of pope francis. compared to three presidents. only bill clinton topped him by one point. but his negatives are 20 points higher. >> americans love pope francis certainly because of his personal style. he seems real to them. >> reporter: he poses for selfies, he takes the bus ditching the limo. he even carries his own bag. a pope who embraces all, even accepting pizza deliveries while embracing a message of hope and love around the world. the pope also calling for the international community to not idly stand by while all of these regions are in turmoil. >> kelly cobiella thank you.

turning now to the obama administration's controversial nuclear deal with iran. chuck todd is moderator of "meet the press" and joins us this morning. good morning. those comments are going to make hardliners in iran very happy. congress probably not so much. what's the reaction and how will this play out on capitol hill once lawmakers return from recess? >> a comment like that is also -- allows for an "i told you so" from the netanyahuen's of the world and congress that doing any deal with iran is a mistake. in threatening that it means, hey, they always wanted to pursue a bomb and all they'll do now is delay that pursuit. that's part of the conversation this morning i'll have with the israeli prime minister on this front. i think president obama's main goal he'll have a majority that opposes him in congress.

the question is -- is it such a majority it can actually undermine the ability of the u.s. to do the deal. president obama's challenge as it has been for the last year on iran is to delay democratic opposition say, hey, give me time to at least start the implementation to see how it goes. and i think that's then a successful political game plan so far and it is probably the one the white house will pursue. >> is part of that force to get the agreement done with iran is part of that a desire by the president to leave a lasting legacy in foreign policy as he enters the homestretch of his last term? >> it could be a legacy when it comes to iran. candidate obama said he wanted to have open dialogues with rogue nations. well now, he can say i've opened the dialogue with iran. i've opened the dialogue with cuba. i've opened a dialogue with myanmar or burma.

sheinelle jones has an undercover sting going terribly wrong in oklahoma. >> confusion when a deputy says he meant to use his taser but in instead pulls his gun and shoots a suspect. he was chasing a suspect during a sting on thursday. the office says he didn't mean to fire it in the heat of the moment but instead of firing a gun fired the taser. an attempted carjacking in smyrna georgia. a woman jumps on and clings to the hood of her car as a would-be car jacker drives off. a would-be bystander pulls his own gun. the suspect was arrested and treated at a hospital. closing arguments begin tomorrow in the boston marathon bombing trial. justice correspondent pete williams reports. >> reporter: even though lawyers

for dzhokhar tsarnaev concede he was involved in the bombings they'll urge the jury to keep an open mind. surveillance video shows him arriving with a backpack at the site of the second marathon bombing with be then leave without it just before a searing explosion. a trial of intense emotion, bill richard describes the torment of watching his 8-year-old son, martin die on the street. both parents later wiped away tears at they heard testimony about the blast to their son's body. jurors saw the boat shot up by police where tsarnaev was finally found after scrawling a message on it critical of the u.s. conduct in the muslim world. he showed no emotion in the courtroom and didn't take the stand. he may not testify in the trial's second phase when the jury decides punishment. >> much people watching this case want to hear from him. they want an explanation to

understand his motivation. but that might not be forthcoming and he is under no obligation to come forward. >> reporter: defense lawyers have claimed it was his older brother who took the major steps in preparing for the bombings. an fbi analyst revealed that when all the fragments of the two marathon bombs were inspected, 500 pieces in all, the only fingerprints ever found were tamerlan's. for now it is virtually certain the jury will find dzhokhar tsarnaev guilty. after a brief break, a second trial begins on the punishment. for today, pete williams nbc news boston. finally, video just released of britain's prince harry shows the royal getting into a legendary aircraft. he is a trained helicopter pilot. he went up in a world war ii era spitfire. the plane goes into a loop-loop. some people just love that thrill. >> yeah they do. if they can keep it down.

t's your latest forecast. craig? lawyers for aaron hernandez start his defense tomorrow. the former new england patriot is on trial for murder in massachusetts accused of killing one of his associates almost two years ago. prosecutors called more than 130 witnesses. ron allen is here with a preview of what we can expect. >> good morning, craig. hernandez is accused of killing a man named odon lloyd. no independent eyewitnesses have come forward and no murder weapon has been found so prosecutors have been trying to convince a jury with circumstantial evidence that this former football star is also a cold-blooded killer. >> give your attendance here monday morning at 9:00 a.m. >> reporter: after nearly two months of testimony from more than 130 witnesses -- >> he's charged with possessing a specific firearm. >> reporter: -- lawyers for aaron hernandez will start laying out his defense tomorrow. the former patriots receiver who recently signed a reported $40

million contract faces first degree murder and weapons charges. he's accused of killing odon lloyd, a semi-pro football player who was dating the sister of fernandez's fiance. among the final witnesses, patriots owner robert craft who said he spoke to hernandez two days after lloyd's death. >> and what did he say when you had asked him whether he was involved in this matter? >> he said he was not involved. >> reporter: hernandez has pleaded not guilty and his lawyers have said they expect the defense to take just one day because the prosecution has not proved its case. prosecutors say the security camera video from hernandez's home shows him carrying what they believe was a murder weapon a concealed gun. eventually hernandez gets in a car with two other men. both chose to stand separate trials for murder. a i cording to prosecutors, they met lloyd and drove to an industrial park where he was killed because hernandez was angry with lloyd after a recent dispute. analysts say physical evidence could be decisive. >> you have a marijuana

but you guys all have day jobs too, as i understand it. correct? had. >> that's right. yeah i'm a teacher. >> i do software development. >> i'm a general contractor. >> how do you find time to do all this? >> we do. we have a lot of kids at home and wives that are waiting for us but we try to make any time we can to get out even for an hour or two each day. we try to get it. >> you mention your kids and two of your wives are in the studio. other one isn't here because another baby is on the way. but almost 11 kids between all of you. is it ever tough to say honey, i'm going to head out for four days on this super risky venture. see you when i get back. >> it is about to get a lot tougher for me. the newborn is going to be hard to make an excuse. but i think all of our wives kind of knew what they were marrying. so it kind of -- they've given us an allowance to go out and do this. but there is a delicate balance because you don't want to upset your wife. you have to play it by ear. >> the biggest way this series seems different from others like

it is that you guys shoot all of the video yourselves. goprocameras as i understand it. and little hand-held cameras as well? >> yeah. that's the best part about it. we all shoot at ourselves and it's -- it's fun because it just lets us be real and it is just us three. we can say or do whatever we want. there's no story set up. if we see a snake, we film it. we get tired, we sit down we eat lunch and no one's telling us to do this or that but we try to run 100 miles every single time. >> 100 miles. so as i understand it you have to get through a quarter of that every day to get your food. is that right? >> yeah. we start off the morning. we have basically a plan we're 18 to 25pending on whatever depending on the terrain. we have our box that we have to get through. we're starving. we run up to 10,000 calories a day. when we get there, we're starving. whoever dropped off the box,

whether by snow cat, helicopter or both we're able to get to this good food. sometimes there's pizza in there, hamburgers. we're not really trying to survive. it is not a survival show. it is like let's do as many miles as we can, see as much beautiful country as we can and then get to that box and eat as much food as we can. >> you said you hope this series inspires people to be adventurous in their 40s. >> that's exactly it. we just want people to get out and have a good time. there's so many bad things out in the world. let's celebrate something that's good and fun and guys hanging out and just get people out on the adventure. >> a lot of people don't flow -- like as they get older, they think i'm done that's all in the past. the 38-year-old person doesn't do this stuff. you kind of want to say, hey, you know what? you can still get out. >> thanks matt danny, and blake.
