his "first alert" forecast. another nice morning as we step out the door. >> good morning. skies are clear for now. but there will be clouds around. that's a nice view of the comcast center. 53 in philadelphia trenton, allentown and read having dropped down to upper 40s along with millville. but we will get sunshine. and the temperatures will be climbing. 65 degrees at noon time today. neighborhood by neighborhood to show what you to expect in your area when i'm back in ten minutes. right now, let's find out what's happening trafficwise. "first alert" traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> good morning. on the ben franklin parkway, what we're dealing with is eastbound construction. part of that left-hand lane with crew on the scene, one lane squeezing by. not affecting the drive time. still taking you five minutes to get from 95 up to the school

hill schuylkill expressway. 12 minutes, no problems on the schuylkill and no problems heading southbound. i'll be checking jersey roads in just a minute. philadelphia police have found the car suspected of running over a temple university student leaving her critically injured. nbc10's katy zachry is live for us in philadelphia. katy, you have the video of that car and it shows a telltale sign on the car but first, give us an update with the victim. >> reporter: well chris, we've been in contact with the student's doctor. we're told she's still in extremely critical condition. but as you said overnight, police have gathered one key piece of evidence that could have signs of who is responsible. take a look. the temple student was riding her bike near campus yesterday. you can see the windshield is

cracked. side damage as well. police found the stranded car overnight in north philadelphia but they are still looking for the people inside and the driver. as you can see it's a silver mitsubishi, and the driver actually stopped after hitting the student and took off leaving her on ground. but she's now on life support. three teenagers were in the car. coming up in the next half hour. you'll hear what one witness said they overheard what was being said in the car moments after the student was hit. live nbc10 news. katy and her photographer were on their way to the location in north philadelphia when they saw this a house on fire in hunting park. fire broke out in a vacant building. no word on what caused it.

we have new information on a standoff in delaware county that unfolded last night. police tell us they now have a suspect in custody. just before 8:00 last night, police responded to a report a possibly armed person in upper providence township. after several hours police arrested a man but they haven't told us his name any charges or what led to the standoff. skyforce 10 was at a motorcycle accident before 10:00 last night. we just checked, the rider is in critical condition. >> happening today, a judge will sentence an atlantic county man for causing a crash that killed a 9-year-old boy. i jury convicted him when he was driving drunk when he slammed hisyógv suv into a car, the crash

killed ryan shyler and left his friend paralyzed from the waist down. police were able to clear the streets of baltimore on the second night of a curfew. officers arrested 16 people during peaceful protests and marches leading up to the 10:00 p.m. curfew. a few minutes after the curfew only a few people remained on the scene. protesters took the streets in other cities including denver where police arrested nine people. and demonstrators held a march in solidarity in baltimore. meantime, in new york protesters scuffled with police there in new york and police arrested more than 100 people. here at home philadelphia courts are closing early because of a possible protest in center city today. the courts say this should help with crowd control and traffic

this afternoon, closing early should. be sure to download the nbc10 app right now. we'll keep you posted on road closures and any trouble that should pop up. parents if you've been telling your teenagers to get a job now is a good time to apply for one. but the question is are there enough jobs to go around in the philadelphia area. nbc10's matt delucia is live in center city. matt do you have an answer? >> reporter: well chris, every year thousands of teenagers apply for the summer jobs but there are not enough jobs to go around. the philadelphia youth baptist association it taking applications for dozens of companies. one is bank of america, they're hiring teens and young adults to help with customer service. it's all about giving kids an experience that they can take with them as they enter the full-time market. who the companies are looking for, 12 to 24 year olds who want

to work. 18,000 apply for the jobs and there are only half of opportunities in fields food service, parks and recreation parks, hospitality, the list going on. there's a push now to get more employers on board. >> it'sqmh+ not just the money, but it's also the emotional and the -- it takes a village kind of a thing. >> reporter: later this morning, people will be out at suburban and jefferson stations at a massive attempt to get people more aware of the teen summer job crisis here in philadelphia. the cost the to hire one teen and what difference these jobs can make as we approach the summer job season. live in center city i'm matt delucia, "nbc10 news." 4:07. we're waiting to see if a plant in atlantic county will reopen. home solution the

pharmaceutical company in hammonton. emergency workers say a refrigerant may have leaked into the air ducts getting people sick. >> happening today, loved ones and community members will remember the latest victim of gun violence at bill mington. a 24-year-old mother of two. tuesday night, she was sitting outside her home by her two boys when someone opened fire killing brown and injuring another woman. brown's relatives say they believe the bullets were meant for somebody else. there's a community discussion about the violence and a vigil tonight. one of brown's cousins described a life that's suddenly over. >> she was everything. she was a good person. great mother. she woke up every day until she went to sleep. >> brown is the 11th murder

victim this year. police have no suspect at this point. to nepal, crowds cheered when they found another survivor. a usaid team pulled this boy from the rubble. he was reportedly trapped in that rubble for five days. he was wedged in between the two floors in equipment. officials now say more than 5500 people were killed in that quake and twice that number were injured. much needed u.s. aid is arriving in nepal. 1.4 million people need food now. a doctor from the lehigh valley is trying to get home after being stranded on mt. everest after that quake. chelson was on his third hike of everest when the quake and avalanche hit.

as he waits to get home the doctor will use his medical expertise to help the victims there. >> announcer: now your nbc10 "first alert" weather. a clear view of the delaware from center city from the adventure aquarium. not as chilly. 51 in northeast philadelphia. atlantic city at the airport, 52 degrees. we will see shine today but there will be more clouds around them yesterday and even a chance of an afternoon shower. the best chance of seeing a shower later today is in delaware and south jersey. less likely the farther north you go. you see a line of shower to the west, and some to the south. it's part of the same system that will swing up from the south and affect parts of the area during the afternoon hour. but not everybody. for example, the pocono mountains should stay dry. 61 degrees today. upper 60s for reading. 68 degrees. 65 in allentown and quakertown.

4:15 we're talking decision 2016 now. today, another candidate is expected to officially enter the presidential race. independent vermont senator bernie sanders said yesterday he will enter the race as a democrat. he described hills as a democratic socialist. and he promises to provide what he calls obscene levels of income disparity in the u.s. we could be getting closer to seeing indictments come down in the jersey jam bridge scandal but governor chris christie says he's not talking about it. the u.s. attorney for new jersey

has been investigating the traffic lane shutdown on the george washington bridge for over a year now, to see if political payback had anything to do with it. several christie aides and appointees hired lawyers and are declining to talk about their roles in the alleged scandal. according to bloomberg, they're saying wildstein will plead guilty. here's what christie had to say during the events yesterday. >> it doesn't have anything to do with me. so, i don't know why you think i have to édeal with it. i don't. >> a loud group of protesters stood outside a fence as he took questions from the press. protesters say they were upset that christie sent state troopers to baltimore. first lady michelle obama will be taking part in a dedication ceremony in a new building connected with the woodland museum of vermont.

murray bailey. a reminder 19 days until the primary in pennsylvania. keep deliberating that's the word from a judge to a deadlocked judge to the etan paez case in new york tee. he's accused of killing the 6-year-old boy in 1979. prosecutors say he confessed a few year agos ago. but hernandez's lawyer said someone else killed the boy and that hernandez is mentally ill. the jury sent a note to the judge saying they're unable to reach a unanimous decision. the judge ordered them to keep trying. the prosecutor calls it a death without dignity after charging a chester county man with the murder of his elderly father. prosecutors argue that edward o'brien iii moved his father from a rehab center to his home. investigators claim that the son

was told that his father needed 24/7 hour care and medication but the son never gave him medication. >> this army veteran now weighed 130 pounds. he was covered with bed sores. he was covered with human waste. he had died from neglect. >> and the attorneys say the son's father did not want to live in a home and refused medical treatment. philadelphia police investigating a child luring case wants to see if a new incident is related. the latest incident happened tuesday in kensington at north howard and west cambria street. police say a 13-year-old girl told them that two men approached her in a black suv. they said one man tried to grab her but she ran away. a similar report involved a

for normal this afternoon with temperatures at 70 degrees. a few scattered clouds to south jersey and declare. but there are more clouds to the south. this is a system that's going to get a possibility of showers later today. for now, the showers are moving through northern north carolina. hour-by-hour forecast for tomorrow shows temperatures will be warm for tomorrow. to start with we'll see 60s in the afternoon. there's a chance we'll see scattered showers tomorrow. by evening, we'll be clearing out. not a big threat for today or tomorrow. but we'll play it safe. especially in jersey grab that umbrella. afternoon temperatures not quite as warm. 77. upper 60s and 70 degrees. the seven-day forecast coming up in the next half hour. all right, bill 4:21 right now. let's see how the roads are looking right now, "first alert" traffic reporter jessica

at 4:25 we have this new information in the germanwings crash investigation. five years ago, the faa questioned the health of a co-pilot who is believed to deliberately crashing that plane kill 100 people and himself.

the faa posted that information online in reaction to a freedom of information act request. they found in 2010 andreas lubitz submitted a medical form. the faa did not grant a license until he provided letters from his doctors saying he recovered. and it was a lighted drone. >> it appears to be maybe 107 feet above us. >> in dallas investigators are looking for a person who flew a drone a little too close to a plane coming in for a landing. approaching the runway in controlled airspace when pilots say it narrowly missed the airbus. experts say drones can do significant damage to planes. we already know what birds do to them. it's illegal to fly them within 500 feet of an airplane. businesses are concerned over staff for the cape may fire

department. the city has had four full-time paid firefighters per shift for the past few years. but the fire chief says this issue has become a crisis now because of a dwindling number of volunteer firefighters. just three are qualifieded. just three volunteers. hiring more full-timers isn't an option because there's no money in the budget. >> if the money could be allocated somehow to at least start the process. >> now business owners tell us they worry about having the same staffing levels when the population explodes during the summer season. city officials say they're reviewing the issue and looking at how other departments in cape may county are staffing. >> announcer: now your nbc10 "first alert" weather. 53 degrees. 4:27. our skies are mostly clear but there are some clouds in our future. and a chance that some areas might need a little rain gear later on. jessica boyington in the "first alert" traffic center.
