>> we'll talk about those subjects coming up. let's get to our top story. with key evidence now in hand you can only imagine the pressure facing the baltimore prosecutor who will decide if criminal charges are filed in the freddie gray case. and as she weighs her decision police are preparing for more protests. peter alexander is in baltimore once again. peter, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning to you on this friday. baltimore is once again a state of emergency. you can see the police over my shoulder here in west baltimore behind me. and this morning the baltimore sun is reporting quoting sources familiar with the investigation that freddie gray suffered a serious head injury inside the prisoner transport van. including a wound indicating he struck his head against a bolt sticking out in the back of the vehicle. after what had been a day of largely peaceful protests in philadelphia demonstrators briefly clashed with police late thursday as they tried to keep

them from turning onto the highway. it was just one of many protests in baltimore and cities around the country overnight. as baltimore police this morning are facing additional scrutiny after a stunning admission. the van transporting freddie gray made a previously undisclosed stop here outside a small grocery store. the new stop coming to light from video discovered from a private surveillance camera. the revelation raises more questions about what happened to 25-year-old gray while he was in police custody. states attorney marilyn mosby is conducting an investigation. to find whether any of the six officers involved should face criminal charges. gray was arrested here. then shackled and put back in the van. the close outside the grocery store was the second stop. at a third stop the van's driver called for another officer to check on gray. then a fourth stop here to pick up a second prisoner.

wbal investigative reporter jane miller. >> by the time the van makes that stop to pick up that prisoner our sources tell us mr. gray was unresponsive. >> reporter: that second prisoner dante allen said he never saw gray. and when he was put in the other compartment in the van he didn't know there was another one. >> it was a smooth ride. we went straight to the police station. i heard a little banging for about four seconds. >> reporter: the van then drove to its final destination. the police station where paramedics were called. still unclear exactly what caused gray's death. >> we're aware of what's in the autopsy. the autopsy contains no evidence that mr. gray was banging his head on his own against anything. >> reporter: late last night the police commissioner here said the curfew will remain in effect through this weekend. and the governor of this state larry hogan said we don't want to alarm anybody, but quote, there is still a real potential

for more violence and more danger over the weekend. >> all right. peter in baltimore and a lot of people in other cities bracing for protests now. we have new images this morning from the devastation from the earthquake in nepal. it's a remarkable view from above revealing what survivors and emergency crews are facing. miguel almaguer is in nepal. miguel, good morning. >> reporter: matt and tamron good morning. we're coming to you today from well outside of kathmandu. we're not far from the epicenter of this massive 7.8 earthquake. this is representative of so much of the country. 2/3 of the land is farming land. this is where government slow has been slow to reach. in some areas the scent of dead bodies and animals is a clear sign there is much work to be done. while villagers are pleading for

more help it's been nearly a week since the total has spiked above 6,000. the quake in all affected sop 2.8 million. many homes have been damaged or destroyed in urban areas. the country's finance minister says this nation will need over $2 billion to start to rebuild. there's so much rubble here. debris piled two to three stories tall. in some communities like this one, they say help has yet to arrive. many here saying they need aid, food and water. the government being criticized as many humanitarian aid missions are still pouring in all across the country. tamron and matt? >> miguel thank you very much. obviously from the vantage point provided by that drone, we would never be able to see the mass of the destruction there. incredible. all right. this next story sounds like something out of the middle ages. the outbreak of the plague.

now we're hearing about the first cases spread person to person in the u.s. in nearly 100 years. natalie azar has been looking into this. good to see you. >> good morning. >> you hear the word plague it takes you back. 25 million people around the world died. what is the disease and how did this dog contract it? >> well first of all i should mention that people still to get infected with the bacteria. it's not eradicated throughout the world. but of course cases -- human-to-human transmission is incredibly uncommon which is why this story is making news. >> a dog contracted the virus and then got very sick and was coughing up blood. and that's how its owner got the virus. >> it's a bacteria. let's be clear about that. bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics. the dog was probably infected because it was allowed to be out

near prairie dogs or fleas. the dog gets infected. it vomits up blood and infected the dog's owner. >> so the owner was infected with the bacteria how easy is for it to spread human-to-human? >> they have not confirmed 100% that the close contact of the dog owner was, in fact infected from the human. i believe it was a woman, she could have also come into contact with the dog. so they're not confirming this. they're suggesting it is possible. in the same way, it could be spread with respiratory droplets and the body fluids of the person infected. >> and in 2015 there are ways to treat it. >> mortality can be high if not treated. mortality is very low if treated within the first 24 hours. we have a number of antibiotics which treat it effectively. >> thank you. appreciate it. >> so interesting.

this is the volcano's first series of eruptions in more than 40 years. president obama has chosen his hometown of chicago to host his future presidential library. the university of chicago where obama once taught law will develop the library along with the barack obama foundation. that's according to a source with direct knowledge of the decision. the university of hawaii and columbia were also on the list. a 15-year-old girl is behind bars this morning after leading police on a high speed chase through a public park in southern california. eventually the teenage driver turned into the park where she tore up me grass and ran down a sign post. later the car sped past a group of school children. eventually the driver lost control and came to a stop when the vehicle was disabled. she was taken into custody. and back to that brave young journalist we showed you at the top of the show. he's getting a lot of attention

>> there goes cars. i saw headlights go flying. >> reporter: imagine coming face-to-face with this. >> holy smokes. >> reporter: just weeks ago, this massive tornado ripping and shredding its way across illinois. blowing semi trucks over like toys. >> go go go! >> blown away by the sheer terror of everything. >> reporter: the tornado killing two and leaving behind a 20 mile trail of destruction. now scientists here at texas tech are doing ground breaking research trying to get inside a tornado to figure out exactly how they work. right now we're in this semi-empty warehouse in lubbock, texas. this is their tornado simulator. we've been granted access inside. what they're doing here is simulating an ef-3 tornado. most of the tornadoes that make windfall in the u.s. are average ef-3.
