personal limaage is anything that hurts after that bike ride. >> i will respectfully take a pass on that carson. it's nice to see you back. good luck with the finale of "the voice." see what that is? that is the skyline of new york city and the east empire building. which means only the east river separates us. i will take off in a couple minutes. >> we cannot wait to welcome you back. so so proud. we will check in with you along the way. we want to get right to our top story this morning. it's a big one. the manhunt for that suspect in a chilling murder case in the nation's capitol that has captured the country. he has been identified by all things a pizza crust left at the crime scene. nbc's national correspondent peter alexander is covering this story for us. peter, this is a major break. good morning to you. >> reporter: savannah, exactly right. >> first the murders, now the manhunt. a ton of new information for you this morning. police are looking for the

34-year-old suspect darren dylan wynn who you know is connected to this scene by pizza crust. police went to the last known arrest of the man at a home here in d.c. it's in morale. but significantly, it's near to where the family's car was found burned exactly a week ago. now the manhunt has intensified. this morning washington, d.c. police say this man is suspected in the brutal killings of the savopoulos family and their house keeper a week ago. they are asking for an arrest or darren dylan wynn. a break in the case at the nation's capitol came after police found his dna on the crust of a domino pizza.

the announcement came after a source close to the family said hours before the fire his assistant delivered $40,000 cash to the home. the money from american iron works where he was ceo. they report savopoulos asked his assistant to deliver the cash. use caution. this is a crime scene. >> reporter: when firefighters arrived at the house thursday afternoon, investigators say the $40,000 was gone so was the family's porsche later found abandoned and torched 15 miles away. it's unclear whether wynn the person of interest seen in this under surveillance video running away from the car fire. they say wynn has been arrested numerous times. overnight, crime scene investigators searched the home for blood stains. sources familiar with the investigation say the fire began on the 2nd floor in ten-year-old philip's room. all three of the adults were found down the hall in a

separate room beaten and stabbed. and again this morning, our local station wrc is reporting that police believe wynn left the immediate washington, d.c. area shortly after those murders took place a week ago. throughout this investigation, verts told us they believe there with may have been more than one person involved in these murders. right now the hunt is on specifically for that man and there is a $25,000 reward for any information leading to his arrest. savannah back to you. let's turn to nbc news law enforcement analyst, a retired atf special agent in charge. jim, good morning to you. i have to say, this is extraordinary that investigators were able to find this suspect say say from dna on a pizza crust of all things. >> right, savannah solid police work by the d.c. detectives. they poured their resources on it. they were backed up by atf fbi,

lab, now they got the suspect. so the whole suspect changes. he's a criminal actor. he tends to go to florida, caribbean, cash and he won't be free long because his picture will be all over the national media and soeshlg media. anybody he is in contact, savannah even a person he's known a long time will be in danger. this man is a very very dangerous man. >> you say it's unusual to put a name and suspect to the police have identified. wherever he has gone, they will be able to find him? >> right. you know the greatest intelligence system in the world is america's broadcast, radio, print media followed by our social media, so nobody is going to get away when their picture is all over like that. he's a guy paying cash. he's not likely in his home

environment. he will be in a hotel. he will be paying anything for cash with this $40,000 that he brutally murdered the family with. you know he's a guy that likely had some contact with mr. savopoulos somewhere. maybe in the martial arts arena. he's a pretty buffed out guy. there may have been contacts there. he likely had a help from a confederate, if they are alive. one can kill the other in a crime this huge. >> it's obviously a brutal development in this case. always goed to talk to you. appreciate it. >> thanks, savannah. meantime an oil spill is now worse than expected. as much as 105,000 gallons may have leaked near santa barbara. hal le jackson is on one of the beaches. how is it looking this morning? >> reporter: it's still pretty quiet here. cleanup is expected to begin in a little bit. today we expect that response to

grow. more workers, more clean-up crews adding to the 300-some folks out here already. we know a state beach has been evacuated along with a second state beach to the south of us. it's a real blow to folks who call this place a popular playground for sun bathing, for whale watching especially for the busy memorial weekend. the u.s. coast guard says oils floating off the southern california coast after a spill now stretches about 9 miles, more than doubling the affected area since an on shore pipeline broke and leaked and as much as 700 gallons may have spilled into the oaks. on wednesday, governor jerry brown declared a state of emergency to free up resources to respond to the spill. >> this is a disaster. it's a worst nightmare scenario. >> reporter: the district and

attorneys general are looking for the prosecution. the texas based company responsible for the ruptured pipe has accumulated 175 safety and maintenance infractions since 2006 more than three times the national average. none of the past incidents resulted in injury but the pipeline company settled with the e in 2010 for a series of leaks in the mid-west. california closed two state beaches for the busy memorial holiday weekend. a states department of fish and wild life closed fishing and shellfish harvesting for a mile. >> the care of everyone affected remains our top priority in our response. >> reporter: representatives for plains all american pipeline have come out and publicly apologized for the inconvenience the spill has caused the community. the company says it wants to try to minimize the environmental impact and is fully committed to the fifteen cleanup, which will take day, if not weeks. >> a lot of cleaning up to do

there. thanks halle. another big story, we have a rare and remarkable look into the mind of osama bin laden in his final days a collection of documents from the 2011 raid on his pakistani compound have now been declassified in a revealing war about his final years in hiding. nbc's chief affairs correspondent andrea mitchell has more on this. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, savannah. this is a treasure trove of documents, letters, books, video games, offering new thinking into the ten years of the world's most wanted man. from the ruins of his hideout in pakistan osama bin laden is single minded. the focus should be on killing and fighting the american people and their representatives, he wrote his leiutenants. an avid reared his online book shelf ranged from bob woodward's obama's ward to michael sawyers imperial hubris. half his collection were books

the islamic state terrorist group now controls over half of syrian territory. palmyra dates back to the 1st and 2nd century. a second marine killed in this weekend's hard landing of an osprey aircraft has been identified. military officials say 21-year-old lance corporeal mathieu debterman died. two marines remain hospitalized in stable condition. a tragic story in omaha, nebraska this morning where a police officer was killed just one day before she was supposed to begin her delayed maternity leave. the 29-year-old was shot in an exchange of gunfire while serving an arrest warrant t. suspect was also killed. she was a new mother. her newborn daughter was born prematurely in february and is set to be released from an omaha hospital today. so sad. well republican presidential hopeful senator rand paul wrapped up a ten-and-a-half hour

filibuster-like speech late wednesday night to protest the renewal of the patriot act. senator paul highlighted his contribution to the nsa's controversial bulk collection of telephone data. his speech was not a true filibuster however, balls it did not delay any bill. the story now about a future mother-in-law who stole the show before the wedding day even before the proposal. take a look. bridge et clark was recording just moments before her sister's boyfriend was about to pop the question. she tried to usher her mother out of the frame. during the confusion, she did a face plant in the sand delaying the memorable mark. mom, look up at your daughter. >> that's why we're here. >> well debating wouldn't let that fall ruin the moment. he dropped to his knee did what he came there to do and brianne said yes. poor mom. >> she dropped to her knee too.

over the next eight hours we'll continue to see on and off showers, rainfall. temperatures don't move out of the high 50s by the time we're at lunch. by 10:00, 48. police are looking for a person who shot a man and left him in the middle of the street in west philadelphia. investigators say if that's not bad enough a drunk driver ran over the shooting victim and he later died. nbc10 is on the scene at girard avenue at 42nd street. the evidence was within inches of the victim which indicated he was shot at close range. the man collapsed on the street and run over by an elderly driver. officers arrested that driver on suspicion of dui. police also tell us they found cocaine and a gun on the shooting victim. i'm rosemary connors. i'll see you in 25 minutes for another update. have a good one.

first, two women who survived share their stories. >> i was only 49 and the picture of good health balancing a career and raising my daughters. and then on a day like any other, i was sitting in my car in a grocery store parking lot and dropped my phone. i realized immediately that the right side of my body was lagging. i managed to hit the redial button and quickly said to my husband, i'm having a stroke. my husband herd gibberish. my thoughts remember forming. i could not speak the words. i knew i needed help quickly. fortunately my husband don is a retired fireman and recognized the garbled speech as a sign of stroke. because we recognized the signs, i got immediate treatment and survived and last weekend i stood proudly as my daughter graduated college. two days before my sister's wedding, i entered the gym. assuming i pulled a muscle, i took painkillers. on the night before my sister's

>> i mean really, the interesting thing is people don't think strokes occur to younger people. they think it happens when you are older. that's not true. these stories exemplyfy it can happen at any age. it shows the potential for a recovery. people think you have a stroke. it's not it. caroline is my patient. she is doing very, very well. the important thing is getting treatment right away. recognizing the signs and symptoms. >> you talk about an acting a /* an act ro acrony mr. fast. >> we want people to act fast. few think of the word fast, face, right, all of a sudden their base the is drooping. you ask them to smile, they can't smile very well. >> that might be a people. you ask them to lift up their arms. if they can't, it's weak on one side, that might be a sign of a
