7:06 am
was enough done in terms of warning people and telling them to stay off the roads? >> you know one of the things we run into every time we have any kind of severe weather here is keeping people off the roads. houston is the bayou city for a reason. we are a system of bayous. and the whole area drains here through the houston area to get into the gulf of mexico. so whenever we have rain we run into the situation. ahead of the storm, the city was talking with the local media. we were pushing out emergency alerts through the emergency notification systems. we were on social media. and our main message wuss turn around don't drown. stay out of these roadways. and unfortunately -- fortunately some people did heed that. others did not. unfortunately some of those folks ended up losing their lives as a result of that. so when you hear an emergency manager tell you that a condition is unsafe we don't take that lightly. and that's the type of

7:08 am
233 cubic feet per second. that's 144 million gallons per day. how much rain is that? if you put it in an olympic pool it would fill up 218 olympic-sized swimming pools. the city of houston in the last 24 hours got 6 inches of rain -- 11 inches of rain in 6 hours. and that led to 500 water rescues. there's more rain coming. if there is any silver lining in this it is the elimination of drought. look at what we had for texas and oklahoma on april 7th. but by last week it is almost all gone. we'll get another update on this coming up later on tomorrow with the drought we expect to see no drought anywhere in texas. the bad news is we cannot turn off the spigot. >> thank you very much. had another major story breaking this morning. fifa international, soccer's governing body involving tournaments here in the united states and the world cup. this all stems from a u.s.

8:39 am
. all right. we're back now at 8:39 with kevin connolly who stars as eric or e to his buddies in the highly anticipated "entourage" movie. not only is he vincent chase's manager but a new producer on

8:41 am
we shot for a year. >> does the dynamic pick right back up? i mean is it the old bicycle analogy? >> of course. that's the bad cliche, it's like riding a bike. but it's true. we're a tight knit group. we're like brothers. we're buddies. we yell at each other, get mad at each other, don't talk to each other, but at the end of the day love each other. >> so the television series ended, you and sloane were flying off. she was pregnant. >> she was pregnant. she's still pregnant. >> she was pregnant for four years. >> longest pregnancy in the history o the world. we took off to try to see if we could figure things out. as the movie opens up the baby is on the way. >> the story goes during the shooting of this movie you managed a break a leg. how does this happen? >> well we were doing a scene -- we had cameos on that day. we had russell wilson gronkowski all these guys
8:42 am
there. probably 25 30 cameos. there was a scene we were playing beach football. and, you know we thought it would make sense to play tackle football. which at the end of the day in hindsight wasn't the greatest idea. when jerry and i were sort of rough housing and jerry kind of tried to tackle me we were in the sand but you just heard that weird -- >> pop. >> -- kind of almost like splitting chop sticks. i know it sounds terrible. it was just like a weird kind of a split noise. >> how long did that lay you up? >> i got up because my adrenaline picked up because i was embarrassed and all these real tough athletes are standing there. so i kind of popped up like i was going to try to walk it off. and i ducked behind a bush and cried for two hours. i was like weeping. but then i just -- i was so embarrassed that i kind of played through it for a few days. then i finally just -- i worked for three days with a broken leg and finally said i got to go to the hospital. this is not a sprain. my leg is folded back the other
8:43 am
direction, i'm pretty sure it's broken. >> i'm happy you're okay. i want to ask you about something you put up on facebook. during high school your yearbook photo had you labeled as most likely to be famous. >> right. >> what were you like as a young man that led your buddies to believe you were going to be the one that was going to be famous? >> listen that was a nice thing for my classmates to vote me on. but at that point i had already done a bunch of acting. so to me i always took it, it was more a vote of confidence from my classmates to kind of keep going. because i had been you know moving towards that goal. so it was really them they knew i wasn't moving out to california. i took it as a vote of confidence saying we believe in you. get out there. >> do you stay in touch with them? >> of course. all the time. i was just back there this weekend. always nice to see them. >> always good to see you. >> thank you. >> we've been waiting on the movie for a long time. we're happy it's here. >> finally here. >> thank you very much. and tomorrow we're going to

"america's got talent" kicked off its tenth season last night. and something happened between judge howie mandel to my left here -- >> you can just call me howie. >> and a hypnotist. take a look. >> in a moment everyone has on the smallest thinnest latex gloves. you won't notice it but everyone is wearing gloves. wide awake, my friend. >> hi. nice to see you today. >> that's crazy.
8:47 am
[ screaming ] >> okay. this was not a setup. >> no. >> are you still upset about it? >> i was upset about it and it's hard for me to watch. i didn't know. i was not prepared for that to happen. as somebody on a show that is a competition, i wanted to be fair so i was open. i wasn't going to block. i was open to being hypnotized. i didn't know what he was going to ask me to do. and i felt very -- kind of somewhat betrayed when it happened. but, you know i've been to therapy since. >> literally you went to therapy. >> i did. and my therapist explained to me this is a good thing. i have ocd. >> yeah. this is a real thing. it isn't a joke. >> it is a real thing. and that was a real thing. for those -- i've been reading online in social media. there are people that don't believe it. you know you know what you're doing but it's kind of like you were at a party and you had drinks or xanax and you don't care. as soon as he snapped me out of
8:48 am
it my guard is back up. he didn't cure me. >> that was my next question. >> no. >> i don't know how to tell you this but i have a cold. should we be backing off? >> that bothers me. you should have told me earlier, but i'm okay. i'm all right. i'm very well medicated as i sit here. >> and i'm probably not contagious. >> you probably should be medicated. what are you basing that on? people say i'm in my third day, i'm not contagious. don't laugh with any "h." so you have another question for me? can i talk about this season? >> please do. >> it's an amazing season. it's our tenth anniversary. it's new and improved. there's amazing bigger talent than ever. we have an extreme show where we go outside. people are blowing themselves up and throwing themselves out of helicopters. we have guest judges. >> who are they going to be? >> i am announcing them here. neil patrick harris. michael buble. and marlon wayons and piers
8:49 am
morgan morgan. >> and you have the golden buzzer. >> it is. it's on our desk where you can send somebody right through. they don't have to -- you can hear me right? >> yes. >> so it's a golden buzzer where you can hit it and you only get one per season. i used mine last night, but there are another three judges and they can use theirs. and the guest judges can use theirs. and they send them right through to the live shows at radio city music hall. >> right through, huh? >> yeah. >> you want to play a game with me right now? >> not so much. >> i'm over here. we're going to play either/or. as many as we can in 30 seconds. >> okay. >> call or text? >> text. >> nachos or wings? >> nachos. >> morning or night? >> morning. is this fun? >> i'm having a great time. >> is any viewer enjoying this? >> they are. beach or pool?
8:50 am
>> pool. neither. i don't do water. >> because of the germs and stuff? >> public water. >> what about a jacuzzi? >> no! >> dark chocolate or milk chocolate. >> dark. >> de niro or pacino? >> can i have both? >> no. it's either/or. >> i'm not playing then. >> france or italy? >> italy. >> acrobat or dog dancing group? >> acrobat. what do i want to be? >> no. which you like more. >> this is boring. >> howard or heidi. >> what? what am i doing? heidi. >> you can catch howie on "america's got talent" on nbc. you know you have to get close to her for that. >> she's not sick. coming up next roses that last for months without water. one woman's big idea. but first this is "today" on nbc. let's shake. >> no. i am shaking.

9:01 am
where at least 19 people now are dead, 14 still missing. in texas alone, 46 countries have issued disaster declaration. in the city of houston, 2500 cars were abandoned. people just up and walked away from their vehicles because they had to and there's a bunch more severe weather on the way. we've heard these terrible stories of people being swept away in their cars, in their homes. just their bodies themselves. we actually had our buddy jeff rossen do a live demo for us. he was down in morganton north carolina, on how to survive dangerous flooding situations. >> he was in the water with a rescue swimmer and eventually he gets in with him and lets him go to see what it's like. watch this. >> yeah.

9:03 am
its foundation. unfortunately the nine people in that house that went down the blanco river and then smashed into a bridge and we lost them, it's horrible. speaking of the blanco river, it was at one point moveing so fast, 223 cubic feet per second. that's 144 million gallons a day. if you took that amount of water, that would fill 218 olympic-sized swimming pools a day. houston america's fourth largest city they got so much rain. they got 11 inches of rain in six hours. they just got another inch of rain in the last hour. they're now about -- they had 500 water rescues in that six-hour period. they now are only about an inch away from having their wettest year ever. >> all in the last week and a half. >> it's crazy. and this is going to as we'll see in a little bit, is going to keep reloading and they're going
9:04 am
to get more. they've got more weather today and get a bit of a break now. and more coming before the end of the week. >> and it's interesting. we had a couple of the city officials we've seen go through that area. hurricane ike and other disasters. and they say that this is something again like they've never seen before. we instantly know the danger and the force of a hurricane, but back to the original conversation of the velocity of the flooding and how fast there are a couple of people reportedly who were frozen in fear in their vehicles as the water rushed around them and just the speed of it all is stunning. >> and the personal stories. the heart breaking phone calls. saying pray for them because they know they're being swept away. >> the homecoming queen on her way back from prom. >> our thoughts and prayers with the people in texas and oklahoma still as this continues on. i know you're going to be busy all week long tracking these other storms that are coming their way as well. switching gears on a much lighter note, who do you think
9:05 am
is the best celebrity pitchman ever? or endorser? >> michael jordan. >> yeah, okay. there are those. i guess more recently within the last three months or so. >> oh. >> narrow it down. >> i'm going to scale it down to the last three months because that's what nielsen, the media survey company, has done. take a listen. see if you can recognize this famous celebrity voice. >> i don't know -- >> oh, yeah. >> within seconds, right? >> what is he selling? >> i don't care. but i'll buy it. >> so they say liam neeson. is that a video game? okay. good. so they found he is, in fact, liam neeson along with pierce
9:06 am
brosnan -- he did the kia sorrento commercial which you may remember. also jennifer garner. >> how much product is sold while they're the endorser? >> just maybe most memorable and who you immediately associate the product with the celebrity. >> matthew mcconaughey. >> and lincoln. >> jim carrey's imitation of him. >> so brilliant. i crack up laughing every time i see the real commercial just because i think of the jim carrey spoof. but if you listen to the words, it stops you in your tracks. it's a great add for that reason. but it's the only one on that list where i can name the pitch man and what they're pitching. and i love liam neeson, but i could not think of what he was selling. jennifer garner, i see the capital one commercial. but the others i couldn't name. >> i think the liam neeson hasn't had the repetitiveness as the others. >> lincoln is on all the time. >> people just like his voice. >> the one i remember is rob
