out there. we'll be back next sunday. fitz sunday, it's "meet the press." nbc 10 news starts now. returning to rome. leaders from philadelphia are become in the holy city this morning to craft the final plan for pope francis's visit to our area and nbc 10 is in italy tracking their every move. the first full day of summer will be a hot one. sunshine is ahead for the start of the week before another round of storms roll in. good morning, this is nbc 10 news today i'm rosemary connors. it's 4:00. let's get right to the forecast now with meteorologist bill henley. it's warm out there to start, bill. >> the temperatures are coming down right now. the humidity is also coming down this morning. and you'll notice drops during the day.

it will be comfortable but a hot afternoon as you mention. the humidity drier air coming down because of the northwesterly winds. the flag atop the aramark building getting a workout this morning. lancaster in the 60s 71 in pottstown and doylestown philadelphia international is at 77 73 in wilmington and 74 in roxborough. we will see sunshine. temperatures in the 70s now will climb through the 80s and much of the area will top out in the low 90s this afternoon. 73 degrees at 6:00. by 9:00 bright sunshine and 78 and 84 and climbing at lunch time today. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i come back in ten minutes. right now let's find out if anything is moving on the roads. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington is standing by. >> we are watching ongoing construction on the vine street expressway.

we have the westbound lanes closed off. this is the broad street exit. they're diverting all traffic headed westbound off of that exit ramp right there. that's in between broad street and the schuylkill expressway. if you follow the detour you should do just fine. the drive times center city area 95 southbound from woodhaven road up to the vine street expressway, 13 minutes, no problems on the blue route and currently septa, new jersey transit are running on time. preparing for the pope. in the past two hours, a delegation from philadelphia landed in rome for a week of meetings to prepare for pope francis's visit here in the fall. chris cato joins us live from rome where it's a few minutes after 10:00 in the morning right now. >> isn't this awful, rosemary? look at this just absolutely horrible here. no beautiful morning in rome.

we're about six hours ahead of you guys, obviously. just after 10:00 a.m. look at the view we have of vatican city. we are looking directly into vatican city where this delegation of philadelphia is en route now. they are en route from the airport to this hotel where they are staying. they will spend the next four days wrapped up in planning final details for world meeting of families in september. an event held every three years first held her at the vatican city 20 years ago. this delegation is made up of 30 people. mayor michael nutter archbishop charles shapugh. >> it's really important we go to the vatican and rome, to talk about low gistjift logistics and various

plans. they've come to us as well. it has been critical for us to go this one final time. >> what will they be doing during their time in vatican city? they'll get hard data on what we can expect. they will get a total number of people, catholics registered for the week-long event and which countries those people are coming from. they'll get those details. a big focus of this mission is to talk about keeping the pope safe, security there's a big meeting on thursday with the director of security for vatican city. that's very important. we also found out that the leaders from philadelphia reached out to the last city to host the world meeting of families three years ago, milan. coming up in half an hour we'll talk to an official in milan to talk about what lessons they've

passed along from the leaders in philadelphia. live in rome chris cato nbc 10 news. >> looking forward to checking in with you in 30 minutes. the world meeting of families starts on september 22nd in philadelphia. the pope will be here on september 26th and 27th. we'll have you covered leading up to the visit and, of course, while he is here. breaking news out of afghanistan where the taliban has launched an attack on the afghan parliament. it started with a suicide car bomb that went off right in front of that parliament building. then armed gunmen and armed gunmen tried to take over. witnesses stay security forced that gunman into an abandoned building which is now surrounded. spurn forces are special forces are now on the scene. new from overnight in our area philadelphia police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man in the city's wissinoming section. it was an emotional scene for

neighbors along scattergood street. right now investigators have no motive for the shooting. in camden an overnight shooting sent one man to the hospital. police tell us the victim was shot one in the chest on north 33rd street. he was taken to cooper university hospital. his condition is not known at this time and there are no arrests in the case. also in camden investigators are looking into the cause of a fire at this industrial building. crews tell us flames were shooting from the roof of the colonial processing building along south sixth çstreet. there are no reported injuries. now to new information from overnight in the hunt for two escaped prisoners in new york. state police are focused on a new search area this morning, following another reported sighting. they're looking in upstate new york in the area of owls head and mountain view 30 miles west of the prison where they escaped.

an owner of a cabin saw one person running away. in friendship a woman reported she spotted the pair on saturday. the tiny town is 350 miles from the clinton correctional facility where david sweat and richard matt escaped 17 years ago. yesterday, authorities blocked roads and searched cars. brandy thompson was the woman who called 911 after she said she spotted two men resembling the fugitives. >> my dog was with me he barked and bounced towards the back of the track. i looked, there were two people. as soon as my dog bark they turned around the one in the blue hoodie pulled his hood up and they went back down on the tracks. prison worker joyce mitchell has been charged with provide something of the tools they used

to cut through steel walls and pipes in the correctional facility. police are searching for two gunmen who opened fire on a crowd of people during a block party in west philadelphia. ten people were injured, including three children. it happened saturday night on ogden street. two men drove by and fired a shotgun down the block. the youngest victim was 18 months old, police say. >> she's doing great, thank god. the hospital did a good job. >> you open the doors, nothing but blood all over the walkway, going up the steps. it was ridiculous. >> all the victimswent to the hospital. eight are back home this morning, two are being treated at penn presbyterian medical center. they are expected to be okay. no word yet on a motive. police in south jersey believe a serial drugstore robber has struck again. take a look. these are surveillance photos of the man as he held up the cvs on

today, lawyers for bill cosby will be in federal court. they want a judge to dismiss a defamation lawsuit filed by three women. the wam say their reputations were tarnished when a cosby spokesperson strongly denied their allegations but cosby's lawyers say the star was acting in self-defense. because his character was under attack and they say that the comments are protected speech. today, the church organist

charged with sexually abusing young boys in south jersey is due in court. joseph cuthbert is accused of molesting five boys over 30 years. the 72-year-old most recently played for the aerial community church in gloucester township, camden county. also today, trial is scheduled to begin for the woman charged in a deadly hit and run in philadelphia's olney section. it happened at the intersection of rising sun and fisher avenue. ortiz was crossing the street when he was struck by one car, then run over by a second vehicle, driven by blackwood, police say. we know more about a deadly crash that killed a pedestrian in pennsauken township camden county last night. investigators say this is not a hit and run. the driver who hit a pedestrian

remained at the scene. police have not said yet what caused this crash. we have good news in bucks county this morning, the power and gas are back home in dozens of homes. a transformer problem damaged natural gas lines. about 200 people had to temporarily leave their home many of them ended up spending the night inside the community room at the nearby foxwood manor apartments. this abandoned problem in the ogontz neighborhood is now a pile of rubble. nbc 10 was there when crews were forced to demolish the row home. nobody was hurt. from our jersey shore bureau a 17-year-old is dead after a stone slab weighing about 650 pounds fell on top of him. the boy was found before 7:00 saturday morning outside of

stone counter llc in berkeley township, ocean county. the business was closed at the time. police have not released the victim's name. today the supreme court justices are expected to announce a landmark decision on whether or not to legalize same-sex marriages nationwide. marriage license bureaus across the country are prepared for a potential rush of applications should the supreme court overturn the ban, giving same-sex couples equal protection under state laws. the justices will decide whether state bans against same-sex marriages can remain in place or if those marriages are considered a constitutional right. the ban here in pennsylvania has since been lifted. same-sex marriage became legal

in pennsylvania last year in may. both new jersey and delaware legalized same-sex marriages in 2013. the supreme court is reviewing legal challenges to gay marriage bans in four states ohio tennessee, michigan and kentucky. they're among 14 states where gay marriage is still banned. new this morning, many college grads are out of school and they're either looking for a job or hopefully have one lined up. how is the job market these days? nbc 10's matt delucia is live in center city to tell us what he's learned. matt? >> we're about a couple weeks out of graduation season for colleges. folks in this area thousands of them are flooding the job market looking for a job here or elsewhere. the good news is the job mark set slightly better than it was at the start of the year. the unemployment rate for 18 to 29-year-olds as of last month was at about 9% which is higher than the overall unemployment rate which is about 5.5%. i spoke with la salle university career services counselor lou

lemort. he said it's hard á 's seen a 30% increase in companies looking for workers over the last year, a very positive sign. what job fields are doing well? professional services leisure and hospitality and health care are all doing fairly well. as for getting that job, what does it take in this climate? you heard of students posting too much on social media. but what if they're not posting enough? working on that part of the story when we see you again in the next hour. live in center city matt delucia, nbc 10 news. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 4:19. the temperature came down 2 degrees in the last few minutes. the cooling will continue. a nice quite view of boathouse row. no storms in the area not a lot of the wind but what breeze we're getting is coming out of the northwest. that's helping to bring down the

humidity. 69% and falling. winds out of the northwest right now at 9 miles an hour. a clear view looking from the comcast center this morning. you'll see plenty of sunshine today. it's going to be a hot afternoon. likely more comfortable than yesterday. the humidity stays out of the picture. chance of storms not happening today but tomorrow it's a different story. they're a long way away. moving through the dakotas into minnesota. heavy showers and possibly thunderstorms, that's the line that we'll be watching for tomorrow afternoon. before it gets here the temperatures tomorrow will soar. this is 24 hours from now. 76 degrees at 5:00 in the morning. look at the quick warmup potentially at the 90 degrees in philadelphia. by 10:00 in the morning. it will be a hotter afternoon with near record temperatures. at 2:00 in the afternoon at 96 degrees, one degree away from the record. at that time you can see showers that are starting to pop up tomorrow afternoon. that could lead to strong thunderstorms tomorrow. but not today. sunglasses will do the trick

towards the walt whitman bridge. the betsy, ben, tacony palmyra, no problems there. we'll check in with more drive times. the philadelphia housing authority will begin providing healthy meals to children all across the city. it's part of their summer food program to ensure that no child goes hungry. the agency is offering breakfast and lunch for kids in need at 20 sites throughout philadelphia. the doors are open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. monday through friday. the program by the way runs through august 21st. talking politics now, the republican pool of candidates running for president just keeps growing and growing. next, a new poll shows who's leading the gop pack. plus taylor is taking a bite out of apple. the letter the superstar wrote that's getting the company to change its tune.

there is new information this morning on apple's new streaming music service. the tech giant is changing its tune about payingç artist royalties after harsh words from singer taylor swift. apple says it plans to pay royalties to artists and record labels during a free three-month trial period. this after the berks county native announced just a few days ago she'll hold back her newest album "1989" from apple. i find it to be shocking disappointing and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.

to decision 2016 and a new poll that shows what voters think of the republican presidential candidates. there are 12 people vying for the gop nomination. the nbc/"wall street journal" poll asked folks who are registered to vote in the republican primary if they could see themselves supporting each candidate. here's a result. jeb bush's standing has improved. in june 75% of republicans say that they could support him for president. that's up from 70% in april and 49% in march. florida senator marco rubio followed bush with 74% of voters saying they could vote for him. that number was unchanged from april. former arkansas governor mike huckabee saw a gain in support. in june 65% of republicans said they could back him, just 52% thought the same thing back in april and in march. now, let's check where the numbers stand for former pennsylvania senator rick santorum. he appears to be gaining momentum.
