>> they try to drop the plane to give it that -- >> yeah. >> we'll speak with paris in a bit. >> our top story is the horrible scene at the water park in taiwan. it's developing at this hour. people running for their lives when a massive fire erupted. carrie sanders has the latest for us. good morning. >> it was a hot summer day in taipei. nearly 100 degrees. people had gone to the water park to school down and have fun. without warning the party scene turned to a scene of disaster. around a thousand people were partying at the popular water park when powder was thrown from the stage. the power caught fire set off an explosion sending panicked crowds screaming and running. he says suddenly it was sprayed and there were sparks then fire on our bodies. rescue workers treated hundreds on the scene. the young victims were still in

their swim suits. infladble water rings were used as emergency stretchers. the mayor of taipei city said the use of the powder is now banned and an official investigation is underway. hundreds of victims are still hospitalized. many in critical condition. >> taiwanese authorities say they're questioning the party organizers who they say may face charges of professional negligence and endangering the public. >> wow, scary stuff. thank you. we turn to the latest in that intense manhunt for david sweat. he's been on the run for more than three weeks now, and this morning authorities think they have him surrounded as they search the dense woods of upstate new york. nbc stephanie gosk remains on the scene. good morning. >> good morning. we're learning that it wasn't just one tip that lead police to richard matt on friday. there were at least three credible lead phoned in by concerned residents. and senator chuck schumer tells the associated press that one

woman thought there was an intruder at her door thursday into friday. they believe it was matt and it would be hours later that he was shot and killed in the woods. 1200 state, local, and federal focussed on 22 square miles. this time they think david sweat is surrounded. >> they feel he is within the perimeter. we're going to search the perimeter hard. no stone left unturned so to speak. >> sweat is on his own. partner in crime richard matt was shot and killed on friday. a the cabin owner's nephew calmedcalm ed called police too. >> he went down to check the camp out and he noticed things were moved around. >> this time matt could not escape.

obviously that's going to be sweat's problem to battle as well. >> stephanie gosk thank you. people heading to north carolina beaches will be extra cautious this morning after another shark attack there. this time a 17-year-old who is now recovering after apparently being bitten. it's the latest a string of attacks over the month. gabe gutierrez has more. >> this morning a 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after an apparent shark attack saturday off north carolina's outer banks. he was swimming with friends in 3 feet of water about 20 feet offshore. the terrifying encounter just 14 miles from another suspected attack a day earlier, a 47-year-old man suffered injuries to his right leg and lower back. >> as the water temperatures warm up the east coast from south to north, animals proceed north wards, including sharks. >> so far this month there have been at least seven suspected shark attacks in the carolinas. on june 11th a 13-year-old was

high court makes same-sex marriage the law of the land obamacare is reaffirmed the president wins fast track trade authority that was delivered down in charleston friday. was this the best week for president obama? >> i can tell you this, aids tell me that president obama believes and they believe this is their best week in the white house and his best week of his presidency. i think when you look at it i go back to something i used it as an important moment to judge the president himself. when he was a candidate, he said something that he wanted to -- his goal of president was to be like ronald reagan in this way. he wanted to be transformational transformational. he thought reagan was our last transformational president. made about a conservative movement. i think this week will underscore. we'll look at the ten days in june in the obama era as a trons

formational moment with a country shifted from a center right. at least on social issues to a center center left. when you know that the president was sort of judging his own presidency that way, transformational versus simply being transitional i think they look at this week and say it was transformational. >> let's look at the other side for a moment. chris christie governor of new jersey expected to throw his hat into a crowded ring on tuesday. he announces he's going to run for president. i believe it puts us now at i believe, 13 gop presidential contenders. first of all, does christie have a shot second of all, what point do gop leaders say enough already? >> look we'll have more. i mean we'll have probably get to 14 or 15. look chris christie is on one hand a very talented retail campaigner. when you think about -- and craig you're familiar with it. you've covered new hampshire primaries. the town hall format was made

[ gunshots ] the shooting took place outside a gay pride weekend event in san francisco. police say an argument at the nearby business escaladed into a shootout. one bystander was hit by a bullet and slightly wounded. it was not linked to the gay pride activities. the coast guard suspended

the search for trevor moore. crews began looking for moore on thursday when his boat was found in a miami marina with the engine running but no one aboard. the massive three day search covered more than 150 nautical miles but ended no sign of the sailor. he was a member of the 2012 lim pick sailing team. cano is recovering after being hit in the head. between innings landed to cano as he was sitting in the dugout. he was cleared by trainers. and this must have seemed like a brilliant idea. people pretending to be albert einstein. the largest gathering of people looking for the great scientist. the california science center partnered with school on wheels to raise awareness for the

it's been more than two months since the devastating earthquake in nepal and the region is understandably picking up the pieces still. when the earthquake struck it triggered an avalanche that swept down the mountain. richard engel happened to be in the area at the time and caught up with the climbers for their story. >> you can see the top of ever everest here. ultimate mountaineer challenge, you know so it's pretty cool. >> this april haylee who runs beauty salons in arizona and her father randall, a farmer from utah joined an everest kpe addition. the climbers worked hard and spent tens of thousands of dollars to get this far. the mount everest base camp. the next step was a difficult attempt at the summit itself. they were willing to put their lives in their hands of their guide. >> then you have -- >> madison a seattle-based guide lead the team up the mountain.

>> i felt everybody was competent and ready to go. >> i was behind garrett and with some other of the guy climbers. >> but her 59-year-old father randall, was already falling behind when a few minutes before noon on april 25th. >> we just hear the most awful noise any of us have heard. >> the earthquake struck. >> all of a sudden the ground started to shake. like the glacier is literally going to crack. >> then an avalanche came crashing down. >> you thought you were going to be buried alive. >> that went through my mind. this is it. bye. >> when the earth stopped rolling, randall, haley's father was very sick. he barely managed to catch up with the group. >> i see him at afar and he's coming toward me. barely walking. sort of stumbling. i get to him and he sort of sets his pack down and collapses

there. >> randall was suffering from acute altitude sickness and needed to be medevaced urgently but bad weather grounded all the rescue helicopters. >> we're waiting for the helicopter to come to life flight dad out. he's not been doing well. we have to get him out of here. >> then a helicopter appeared. a lone brave pilot managed to get through the clouds and come to the rescue. >> i get as close as i can, you know to the helicopter and i hug him goodbye. we both started crying. >> as the weather improved the rest of the team was air lifted off everest. what they saw as they returned to their devastated base camp appalled them. the avalanche had left 19 people dead including their team's medic. now safely back at home both
