nbc 10 news starts now. right now on nbc 10 news today, a drexel grad beaten to death in her west philadelphia apartment. no one forced their way in and police are trying to figure out who her killer may be. this morning, federal government investigators say it was a lone gunman no one else was involved in the deadly shooting of four marines at military sites in tennessee. local bases are reacting to the tragedy. here's a live look outside. we're in for another comfortable day. enjoy the pleasant temperatures while they last because the heat is coming back for the weekend. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. let's find out about today and the weekend with meteorologist bill henley with his first alert forecast. bill? >> what a beautiful day

center city area no real problems. as for the pa turnpike 23 minutes, you can see the cars are green and word of the construction project picking up early this morning, westbound from route 1 up toward valley forge. same thing eastbound. actually this is a mistake. otherwise no problems for mass transit, septa, new jersey transit and patco running on time with no delays. 4:02 and 67 degrees outside. this morning, police are calling the death of a recent death of a drexel grad in west philadelphia suspicious. matt delucia is live on scene. what can you tell us about the investigation? >> reporter: tracy, police right now say they have no official suspects but they are to follow leads. that is the house where recent drexel grad student was found dead. jasmine wright was found beaten and strangled. she was in a third-floor

apartment. no forced entry and the apartment was not ransacked. we have been talking with neighbors. they tell us they're stun by this. wright was well liked and respected. she was professional. this came out of nowhere. they're anxious to find out what the motive was here and so were investigators. back out here live police are still out here holding the scene, no one going in and out of this house except for detectives. i'm gathering interviews with some of the neighbors. i'll be back in 30 minutes. live in west philadelphia, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. new this morning in the terror in tennessee, the fbi says it has no evidence that anyone but a lone gunman was involved in the deadly shooting of four marines at military sites in chattanooga. authorities say mohammod youssuf abdulazeez opened fire from inside his car when he drive by a military recruiting center at a strip mall. he then drove seven miles to a navy marine training center and open fired again.

he was then shot by police. vai, you have more information about the investigation. tell us what we know. >> reporter: authorities have no idea what motivated the shooter but the attack is being investigated as a case of domestic terrorism. here's what we know. abdulazeez graduated from the university of tennessee in 2012 with a degree in electrical engineering. he was born in kuwait but they've not found anything so far to connect him to any terrorist organization. in addition to the four ma rinnesrinne s -- marines killed three were founded. investigators say they'll leave no stone unturned. >> we are checking every possible place where he resided or could have resided visit where he shopped, went to school, who his friends were as he worked out at a gym. every possible lead. >> we'll continue to check for updates and we'll bring you any information that we get as soon as we get them. tracy, i'll come and join now in

the studio at the bottom of the hour. live in the digital operations center vai sikahema nbc 10. the shooting serves up difficult memories for people at adjacent base m mcguire-dix-lakehurst. the ft. dix six were found guilty of trying to kill military at the place. >> the military and the d.o.d. cops do their best to protect us and spot the people. a lot of times you don't know who they are. be aware, be vigilant of what's going on around you. >> and the white house has been in touch with the pentagon to make sure military installations are being vigilant in the wake of the deadly shooting. 4:05. bullets fly through an intersection in north philadelphia sending one woman to the hospital and narrowly missing two others. police are looking for the shooter now. nbc 10's katy zachry is live outside temple university hospital with how the victim is doing. fill us in katy.

>> reporter: police tell us that she is improving since arriving here to the hospital. they also say two other people in the car with her came this close to being shot as well. but it was where they were sitting in the car that protected them. now here's some scene video of 17th street and diamond and susquehanna. it was blocked off around 11:00 as police investigated the shooting. they say a 32-year-old woman was driving herself and a couple friends when they heard gunfire as they rode along. it turns out a stray bullet went through the car's trunk, then the back seat missing two passengers and only stopping when it hit the driver. >> she realized that she felt pain in her back and realized she had been shot. police took her from the vehicle, transported her to temple where she's presently in stable condition. initially she was in critical condition. >> reporter: amazing. it sounded like she had a low-key reaction off the bat. coming up at 5:00, we're working

to bring you a story and show you a key piece of evidence police say they found at the scene that may shed light on this shooting and may lead them to a motive. reporting live katy zachry nbc 10 news. police in new castle are searching for a hit and run driver who hit people on christiana road around 10:30 last night. one of the victims was seriously hurt. in west oak lane police are looking for the person who pulled the triller in a deadly shooting. skyforce 10 was on the scene along north 17th street early last night. officers have not said what led to the violence. a robbery suspect is in critical condition after police shot him during a confrontation in millbourne last night. investigators say the suspect held up a grocery store and when police approached the man, he pulled a gun on them. the officers opened fire. no officers were hurt. happening today in delaware county, we're expecting to learn more about a suspect in a child

abuse case that the district attorney has called outrageous. darryl carter is one of five adults charged with physically and sexually abusing five children last year. investigators say the suspects punched, slapped and repeatedly shot the kids with bb guns inside a darby home. three men and two women are facing charges. an attorney tells us a plea deal cowling on the table on some of the charges today. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> eight minutes after 4:00. 67 degrees, the humidity was so low yesterday and it's another nice start this morning with clear skies. we'll be in for lots of sunshine on a beautiful summer day with big changes ahead for the weekend. it's going to be a hot one. moving into the 90s. the humidity comes back and there's a chance we'll see scattered storms over the weekend. and a heat wave in the makings into next week. the temperatures will soar the hottest of the year so far. 59 degrees right now in reading.

arrested a man after they say they found 584 bundled bags of heroin inside his edgemoor home. hillary clinton's presidential cam pane has returned a contribution from allentown's mayor. it has to do with the fbi raid at city hall and mayor ed pawlowski pawlowski's home several weeks ago. friends of ed pawlowski made the $1,000 contribution to the clinton campaign in may. we just learned that last week the clinton campaign refunded that money. tonight, the pastor of america's largest congregation will speak in philadelphia. joel and victoria osteen will hold a night of hope that's what it's called at the wells fargo center in south philadelphia. you're looking at it live there. last night we asked osteen about several subjects, including caitlyn jenner. she accepted the arthur ashe

now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 16 minutes after 4:00. we're holding at 67 degrees. temperatures are falling not quite as quickly as yesterday morning. we do have scattered clouds moving through. no showers with these clouds. you can see them clearly. the city looks illuminated. also notice the flag is at rest. the wind has died down. it is calm through the entire area. temperatures will be climbing from the 50s and 60s this morning, right now 68 degrees at philadelphia international. we'll be in the 80s this afternoon. we saw low 80s yesterday. a little bit warmer this afternoon. in fact we're already 2 degrees warmer this morning. look at the humidity at 81%. that number will be coming down. 2 will be another beautiful day at the shore. the clouds cleared out. we'll see plenty of sunshine. it will be a nice sunny day at the shore. the temperatures back into the upper 70s.

inland they'll be going warmer. right now, even with clouds the temperatures areal coming down. 61 in washington township, horsham 61. 59 in allentown, doylestown is 58 degrees. it is in the 60s for delaware newark is 64 degrees. 50s now for millville, 58 degrees there and 59 in woodbine. 71 at cape may harbor. a pleasant start this morning. we'll be watching for clouds nothing more than a few scattered clouds this morning and most of the thicker clouds will stay clear of our area today. you can see the showers and thunderstorms moving into the midwest, into michigan they're getting heavy rainfall now. in central michigan this is part of the system that is going to give us a possibility of showers and thunderstorms offer the weekend. we won't see it today but these storms willing on the move and late tonight, they'll be arriving in western pennsylvania. you can see a few scattered showers in central pennsylvania as well. which means we're on track for

some wet weather, possibly early tomorrow morning. that's tomorrow morning at 4:00 in the morning some scattered showers and a thunderstorm is possible. those will be moving fairly quickly by 7:00 they'll be heading towards the shore. then most of the rest of the day saturday will be dry but can't rule out a pop-up shower later in the day. over the weekend, it's going to be a lot hotter than what we'll see today. today, 66 degrees at 6:00. by 9:00 73 and up to 80 just a few scattered clouds at noontime with more of a southerly breeze. that will bring the humidity back into the area. you'll feel it this weekend. seven-day forecast coming up in the next half hour. 4:19 right now. happening today, septa will begin a renovation project at the city hall station on the broad street line that will affect how passengers get into and out of the station. platforms will be closed on weekends through august 17th.
