we're excited to talk to them. i've got literally 55 questions. >> yeah. baby josiah looks great. wow, mom is my hero. >> it was remarkable. >> we'll have more on that ahead. our top story this morning is the nasty weather from coast to coast. it's extreme heat here in the east. flooding rains out west. what is the the latest for everyone? >> there are two more days of rain in the southwest. in phoenix we saw wild storms that moved through producing a rapid amount of rain that lead to the flash flooding. it swept away cars and homes. look at that about to crash into the bridge there. we saw this type of situation because the monsoonal moisture is in place and we're pumping in extra moisture from a remnants of a tropical system over the pacific pacific. in california we saw crazy thunderstorms that closed the beach. santa monica pier saw wild light thing. they triggered the chance of fires to spread, you know when you have a lot of lightning but

not that much rain the condition are dry. in los angeles we picked up .83 inches of rain. it is a record for the entire month of july. we have a chance of more rain and thunderstorms in the next two days in california and the desert southwest. we have an area of high pressure. we're looking at a lot of heat but it's becoming more and more expansive. boston has yet to 90 degree yet this morning. we should hit it today. temperatures not only will be in the 90s but it will feel like closer to 100 degrees because of the humidity. but i want to point out four days ago the final bit of snow up in boston in that giant snow paul finally melted away. >> only four days ago? >> just now, yeah. >> i don't want to think about it. we'll get more from you on the rest of the country in a few minutes. donald trump feeling the heat this morning. a day after he claimed senator john mccain is not a war hero.

moment. the republican candidates not named donald trump have been looking for a moment to do what they did yesterday which is find an easy way to marginalize him. and when they saw him attack mccain his military service, that became an easy thing to pounce on. there wasn't a fear of alienating his conservative supporters. this is a universal thing when it comes to military service. i think it's the beginning of the end of the marriage between donald trump and the republican party. does it mean the end of the trump running for president? no. i think there's a huge push collectively to get him out of the party. >> as the party continues to distance himself. if he decide to run as a third party, does he continue to inflict a little bit of pain on the republican party? >> he could inflict a lot of pain on the republican party. the people he's drawing from right now who are -- the group of voter that are supporting donald trump, i've talked to some of them has nothing to do

with donald trump and his kpe competence or incompetence. it's about protesting washington, d.c. and the establishment of the republican party. he could continue to be a viable protest vehicle for voters sort of fed up with washington politics and that would hurt any republican nominee. the question is is he -- does he so focus that he would do in his hard work to run as an independent to get on the ballots. one thing about trump he likes to take shortcuts. that's why i don't think he would follow through with the full fledged third party candidacy. >> we'll be watching chuck. thanks. and chuck, we'll see more of you later today on "meet the press." the investigation into the tennessee shooting that left five military members dead. according to the new york times the gunmen sent a text message to the friend before the shooting. it may give some clues to the motivation of the attack.

his family is speaking out for the first time. miguel almaguer is there. >> it reads in parking lot i have to declared war against him. this as we know a fifth service-member has died here and the family of the gunman is reaching out. overnight for the first time the gunman mohamed abdullah's family released a statement. there's are no words to describe our shock, horror and grief. for many years our son suffered from depression. we're also learning more about a troubling period in his home life. in 2009, his mother filed her divorce saying she was repeatedly beaten by the gunman's father and her children were occasionally struck and

berated. it was unclear whether he disputed the allegation but the couple remained married. the gunman's life under the microscope. they're looking at electronic records, cell phone records, credit card receipts travel documentation, they're interviewing his coworkers family friends, neighbors. >> this weekend the fifth victim 26-year-old navy petty officer randall smith died from three gunshot wounds. he leaves behind his young wife angie and their three small children. >> when i came here i knelt down and cried because it is so overwhelming. >> soon there will be services for the four marines killed thursday. staff sergeant david wyatt deployed three times to iraq and afghanistan was an eagle scout before he became a marine. his father told us when gunfire broke out the family man helped strangers get to safety but was killed when he returned to help

heard just a small part of earlier this month. now the entire deposition some thousand pages is out there full of salacious details as cosby speaks openly about sex and drugs. >> they are bill cosby's own words describing a string of sexual encounters in rapid detail. claiming he mentored young women using his fame and promising career advice adds part of his frequent seduction. the document stemmed from a 2005 case in which cosby was sued by a woman who claimed the comedian drugged and sexually assaulted her. in the full deposition obtained by "new york times" cosby claimed he and his accuser, quote, were playing sex or playing petting. cosby also suggested he understood nonverbal signals from when a woman consents. she does not say to me "don't ever do that again" she doesn't walk out with a attitude of a huff because i think that i'm a

pretty decent reader of people and their emotions in these romantic sexual things. the deposition revealed details from other relationships including an exchange with a woman's whose father died of cancer. cosby admits using that information to get close to her. the accuser's attorney requestsasking the questions. there's been much speculation about how much cosby's wife camille really knows, the times said cosby blocks a damageing magazine article and sending money to one woman through his agent so his wife wouldn't find out. for accusations for drugging women he said benadryl was the only medicine he gave the accuser. he's open about obtaining seven prescriptions for quaaludes. he gave them to people the same as a person would say have a drink.

when asked whether one woman was in a position to consent to sex he answered "i don't know." now charges have been filed against cosby in connection with any of the allegations. he is continually denied he's a sexual predator. there's been no comment from cosby's publicist on his latest "new york times" report. >> no comment from the publicist but has a lot of people talking. >> let's check with sheinelle now. >> it's so sad. in southern california county sheriff's officers are being held as heros for a rescue of a baby who was reported kidnapped. 13-month-old penelope roaddriguez was taken from her mother. the little girl was found un unharmed. deputies are holding a 38-year-old man and teen boy in connection with the case. the search is underway for a man wanted for questioning in the murder of five people in a northern california home.

residents of the neighborhood were stunned when officers responding to a request to check on the home uncovered the bodies of two adults and three children. police have put on alert for 30-year-old martin martinez calling him a person of interest in the case. they have not yet disclosed his connection but say they are processing the evidence in a very large crime scene. there was a deadly tend a prewedding party in new york. four women were killed and four others ss injured when their limousine was struck by a vehicle. the group left a celebration at the winery on eastern long island. police say the suv driver is being charged with drunk driving. it's the dawn of a new relationship between the united states and cuba. nbc's gabe gutierrez is in ha havana this morning. >> good morning. today this is the u.s. section in cuba behind me. tomorrow it will be an official u.s. embassy for the first time in 54 years.

the u.s. flag will not fly here until secretary of state john kerry visits the island later this summer. tomorrow the cuban flag will be hoisted in washington marking the former restoration of the diplomatic ties about cuban foreign min stirister will visit the state department for the first time in decades. a long time since 1961 when the u.s. broke ties with cuba. the historic fall came following a handshake between president obama and rule castro at nelson mandela's funeral. there are many agreementdisagreements on human rights and whether or not to close the u.s. prison at guantanamo bay. the biggest hurdle is lifting the trade embargo and hoping congress can do that. many republicans are opposed. here on the streets of havana

[ screaming ] >> with no cell phone reception on houston's beltway husband john had to decide whether to keep driving. [ screaming ] >> do you want me to stop or keep going? >> keep going. since they didn't have video foot act ofage of their older daughter's birth. she asked john to film this. a little more than two minutes after her water broke -- >> it's a boy! look at that. baby josiah arrived weighing at 10 pounds and three ounces. >> we did it!

cell phone, so if we had pulled over we couldn't have done anything better than just going on and getting to the birth center where we had mid wives waiting to get us excellent medical care rather than me not knowing what i'm doing on the side of the highway. >> so they thought it was better to keep going. we know that you wanted the video because you didn't have video of your older daughter's births s births. what made you decide to put it out there so 4.8 million people have watched the birth? >> well, i don't really -- i don't know. a lot of people were like you should put it on youtube. we're like maybe. and i guess finally enough people convinced me that we should do it. so it was mainly just for family friends, and just took off and i was so surprised. i didn't really expect it to go that far. >> a little more than family and friends have seen it now. what has the reaction been like for you guys? >> well, there's all sorts of

the guy with the hoodie i mentioned come running out of the house. two minutes later as he ran, the whole building -- boom. a huge explosion. >> authorities are investigating a suspected case of arson in south philadelphia after a building under construction goes up in flames. we'll have a live report from the neighborhood where more than a dozen residents are out of their homes this morning. hundreds of cyclists have already begun the 65-mile trek known as the tour de shore from philadelphia to the boardwalk in atlantic city. today's excessive heat could factor into their big finish. anybody who's exercising outside today should take it easy.
