[snoring.] take the roar out of snore. yet another innovation only at a sleep number store. nbc 10 breaking news. that breaking news this morning, terror in a louisiana movie theater. police say a lone gunman opened fire killing two people before killing himself. and more breaking news this out of philadelphia where police are investigating a shooting in kensington that sent a man to the hospital with gunshot wounds to his chest. they're trying to figure out why someone shot him. a live look outside over center city philadelphia this morning a slight breeze out there. we are headed for three beautiful days in a row. why not? let's do it again. sunshine, low humidity. unfortunately the end of this perfect stretch of weather may be in sight. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm chris cato on a friday morning. let's get to meteorologist bill henley and his first alert

forecast. bill, nis and cool out there again this morning, why not? >> cooler than yesterday. our beautiful stretch of weather continues today. we're looking at temperatures in the 50s and 60s right now. 59 in pottstown, philadelphia is 62. look at the low 60s for wrightstown, toms river millville both in the 50s this morning. down to 66 in northeast philadelphia. a little bit warmer in southeast philadelphia, more buildings, more cement seem to hold in the heat. delaware river trail, 70 degrees. 69 degrees is the forecast for 6:00. by 9:00 we'll warm to 74 with a light breeze out of the north at 6 mile-an-hour. into the low 80s this afternoon. we'll see the low humidity persist right into the afternoon hours. we'll go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when come back in ten minutes.

first, jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> bill this morning we'll start things off on the schuylkill expressway. around montgomery drive moving along nicely. westbound, eastbound, 12 or 13-minute trip. from the center city to the blue route up towards the vine average speed 61 miles an hour. heading out the door on to 422 this morning we're moving along. eight minutes is where we typically see the delay in the morning hour. headed eastbound from 29 up towards the schuylkill. as for mass transit, new jersey transit, septa or the patco speed line no delays. 4:02. we continue to follow breaking news out of louisiana where there's been another movie theater shooting. three people are dead in this one, including the gunman. nine others injured. the emergency calls came in around 7:30 central time last night from the grand theater 16 in lafayette, louisiana. nbc 10's tracy davidson has been following the overnight developments. there have been a will thelot of them.

>> reporter: a 58-year-old man did the shooting and he took his own life after the rampage. witnesses say the man stood up about 20 minutes into the movie and just started shooting. some people at the time said sounded like fireworks. this is video posted to social media immediately after the shooting. you can see all the police car. they had cars in the area. the response time was good. two teachers are among the injured victims. governor bobby jindal praised edd some of the victims. other wounded victims are in very critical condition. amy schumer said, my heart is broken and all my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in

louisiana. investigators are now trying to determine what motivated the shooting. we'll continue to follow this breaking story. we continue to get new information and video from the scene. we'll update you throughout the morning. live in the digital operations center tracy davidson nbc 10 news. the situation in lafayette is unfolding as a jury is deciding whether to execute james holmes for killing 12 people in the movie theater shooting rampage in colorado in 20 2012. holmes' lawyers are expected to folk ks on what they call his severe mental illness in an effort to spare his life. more breaking news now from overnight. two women showed up at an emergency room with a gunshot victim in her car, a man in his 20s. he was shot twice on emerald street in kensington. the victim is in critical condition at temple university hospital. so far, no arrests. also new from overnight, police say stray bullets from a shooting in north philadelphia hit a car parked on broad

street. it happened around 1:00 a.m. police say two men got into an argument, one man pulled a gun, the other man who had a license to carry pulled a gun and shot the other guy. the victim was in critical condition. there was no one in the car hit by the stray bullet. there's a special memorial to remember the victims of a deadly carjacking that happened one year ago. matt delucia is live in the tioga section of philadelphia where family and friends will honor a woman and her three kids killed in that tragedy. hard to believe it's been a year. >> reporter: absolutely chris, one year ago, tomorrow that a car came speeding through this intersection here of allegheny and germantown crashing into a fruit stand here. you can still see the memorial that is out here right now. it changed this family's life forever. this was the scene on july 25th of last year. police say two men stole a car, lost control and crashed it here. 15-year-old key airiara williams and

two siblings were killed and their mother died a few days later. there are soons of flowers in this grassy field where it all happened. family and friends want to honor their memory with a cookout with fun and games for the kids calling this a day for the commune to the come together. coming up at 5:00 we'll hear from the aunt and sister of the victim who says it is still incredibly difficult to come to this very spot. live in tioga, matt delucia nbc 10 news. another tragic anniversary. today marks one year since a deadly hospital shooting in delaware county. that man right there killses had caseworker and shot at his psychiatrist, dr. lee silverman. silverman pulled out his own gun and shot plotts three times. a judge will sentence him in september.

happening today, a former philadelphia traffic court judge faces sentencing in a ticket fixing scandal. fortunato sr. five other former traffic court judges have been sentenced to are their roles in a ticket fixing scheme. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. it's just seven minutes after 4:00 and we've got another nice day ahead with sunshine and low humidity. this low humidity is allowing the temperatures to be cooler this morning but bright sunshine will have us warming into the 80s. a summer beauty. this is three in a row. looks like it will continue into the weekend but possibly not through the weekend. there are changes ahead for sunday. right now, 60 degrees in doylestown, philadelphia international is in the 60s. last couple morning at this hour it was in the 70s and 58 in millville with clear skies there. clear over cape may, another

wonder traffic would be accommodating for that. nbc 10's traffic reporter jessica boyington is here. >> we'll start off right around the vine street expressway at 24th street. there it is. that's it. westbound headed towards the schuylkill expressway or 30th street station, no problems sa for for the is far for the morning. the construction scenes not active but there will be cones an signs throughout the area. for the drive times around the philadelphia area 12 minutes headed southbound on 95 from woodhaven road up toward the vine. no problems heading into the center city area on the schuylkill. the blue route is looking great. the pa turnpike you can see we're moving along just fine either direction. the eastbound a slight delay here. i'll check into exactly what that reason is right now. eastbound from valley forge to route 1, 28-minute trip.

4:12. we are following the breaking news out of lafayette louisiana where a man opened fire inside a movie theater killing two people and then killing himself. nine others were injured. police say the shooter is a

58-year-old man. at this point we don't know his name. investigators are still trying to figure out why he did it. we're learning more about the victims and the survivors. we'll continue to bring you updates and new information throughout the morning. investigators released the sketch of this man. it happened almost two weeks ago at the beach near annapolis avenue where the girl was standing in waist-deep water. the man swam under water, grabbed the girl's thigh and came back minutes later and grab her private area. >> it's surreal. hard to believe. >> will make me keep a closer watch on my kids while i'm out here on the beach. >> the man got out of the water and ran off. that cell phone video shows

chester city and chester township police arresting walter mote on sunday. when the officers tried to remove a gun from mote's waistband, the d.a. says he punched officers in the face. the a.d. also said, a taser didn't stop mote. the police officer said, i observed his heart beat racing which i observed from the outside of his t-shirt. in this case yes, they used sufficient force and they didn't exceed that force but we're still looking at it. from my review at this point in time i don't see excessive force in that video. >> now, prosecutors say mote has 13 past convictions dating back to 1985. many of those for violent offenses. a teenager pleaded guilty in

a hit and run that put a temple university student in a coma. 18-year-old robertss pleaded guilty to leaving of scene of an accident. roberts had only a learner's permit when he ran over rachel hall in april. the temple student was riding her bike near campus in north philadelphia. she's still in a rehab center be recovering from a brain injury. a judge will sentence roberts in october. delaware state police still aren't sure why a driver lost control, causing a deadly crash on 495 in new castle. a car driven by wilbert mableton. the crash shut down the interstate for almost four hours. bigger tractor-trailers may soon be allowed on roads. right now, double tractor-trailers are banned in pennsylvania and new jersey but an amendment to the house transportation appropriations bill could change that.

people against this move say the bigger big rigs are dangerous. pennsylvania senator bob casey is also standing against the bill saying he's worried about accidents. >> number of big truck-related accidents went up 37% and in one year it went up more than 60%. >> now, casey says he will not support that bill if it includes the provision alouing the longer tractor-trailers. the trucking industry says the double trailers are both safe and economical. right now, 11 states permit double lengthed rigs on the road. this morning the red cross is offering help for four families after fires hit several homes in camden county. the fire destroyed or damaged four condos in lindenwold. an apartment complex in philadelphia's winfield heights section is celebrating its grand opening. it's on the side of the old

4:00. we'll see bright sunlight during the day today. clear skies right now. another beautiful morning. looking across the delaware no sign of any serious cloud threat. just a few scattered clouds 69 degrees in philadelphia. the humidity in the comfortable zone at 58%. one degree cooler than yesterday at this time. the rest of the area is running cooler, too. clear view from center city looking past the art museum. like yesterday, we'll see northwesterly winds blowing. that's dry air coming in to play. 63 in trenton and wilmington, 66 in northeast philadelphia. 50s for quakertown and 60 degrees in doylestown with plenty of sunshine you'll have a great chance to get outside. look at that number 58 in woodbine and 57 in millville this morning. radar is nice and clear. we will see wet weather, though return next week. the first showers, well, not

those, they're staying to our south. high pressure in control. it's this system that is producing some heavy weather in minnesota. that's a possibility sunday night and into monday we cowl see some of the showers but not today. the warmup, 10:00 this morning, 79 degrees. we'll warm into the low to mid-80s this afternoon. 82 in dover and wilmington, 83 in trenton, 85 in philadelphia, this evening, the numbers come back down in the 60s and 70s. by 11:00, 72 degrees in philadelphia. stand by with your sunglasses for another beautiful day, sunny skies, nice and comfortable. low to mid-80s this afternoon with northwesterly winds. very similar to what we saw yesterday. tomorrow, another winner, 87 sunshine low humidity saturday but humidity does make a comeback on sunday. 92 degrees as the humidity returns. we could see showers develop late sunday and into monday.

back with a full seven-day forecast, more on these possible storms when i come back in the next half hour. nice work. 4:20. jessica boyington has just picked up what appears to be an accident on one of your traffic cameras. >> just surfing through and found one on the boulevard around 17th street. several vehicles involved right here. you can see passengers standing on the shoulder as well. police activity on the scene. they're blocking out part of the shoulder and you can see part of the lanes right here. we'll keep you updated on that. no backup behind that scene. 202, heading out the door the cars are moving along 11 minutes northbound or southbound from 30 up towards the schuylkill expressway. on the abington we're also watching for an accident scene on susquehanna road.

car. the may flies landed on the car. they are covering it there and swarming inside. the d.o.t. had to plow bring out the may fly plows to get the insects off the bridge. unreal in iowa. you never know what you're going to see. here's something a lot of people will be seeing in philadelphia. a mural that depicted bill cosby is painted over after the allegations that the comedian drugged and raped dozens of women. this video was shot yesterday in glenwood in north philadelphia. you can see a while wall. before that this is what it looked like. the mural arts program was already planning to remove the painting, though because they say the wall where it was painted is in bad shape. the recent allegations about cosby moved that mural much higher on their list. the cosby has not been charged with a crime.

football stars subject to this mural here. the philadelphia eagles helped unveil the larger than life images of players. the work is called our city, our team. more than 1,000 volunteers helped create it along with the city's mural arts program. it's the second largest u[al in the city now and the fifth largest in the entire country. well the fda may decide today whether to approve a new class of cholesterol-lowering drugs. the drugs called pcsk-9 inhibitors lowered levels of bad cholesterol by 60% during trials. they would provide an alternative to statins which don't work well for some people. the drugs could cost as much as $13,000 a year. well people over 50 are drinking more alcohol these days according to a new study. british researchers say it could be a hidden health and social problem among that group of people in that age group.

the study found that increased drunking was not linked to feelings of loneliness or depression. those who drink may also eat more. indiana researchers, indiana university researchers found that alcohol can stimulate a part of the brain that fixates on food. experts want people to know that drinking alcohol before dinner could encourage them to keep eating once they're already full. that's a problem i already have. alcohol or no. happening this weekend, a stretch of lincoln drive in philadelphia will be closed tomorrow even to walkers, joggers and bikers. crews will be out there making repairs and performing maintenance. lincoln drive will be shut down from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 between wissahickon avenue and ridge avenue. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 4:26. 69 degrees. a few scattered clouds but otherwise, another gorgeous start. so comfortable outside, even a little bit cooler than yesterday at this time. hour by hour forecast is just
