the loose. >> reporter: keith, some saw the suspect running from the scene. he remains at large tonight. some of the victim's friends and family might be afraid that did not stop them from gathering at a very large vigil. it's difficult to explain the sense of loss in this port richmond neighborhood after a young mother was murdered last night, shattering any sense of peace on this block. >> hail mary. >> reporter: so they gathered at the scene of the crime to pray and hold hands. 100 strangers and friends remembering stephanie. her family says she just started a new job at a dental practice and had a 2-year-old daughter. last night someone walked into her apartment and shot her, execution-style. her daughter was in the same room. and police call this a targeted attack. >> a cold-blooded coward. how do you shoot a woman in her

own house in front much her child? >> reporter: investigators zeroed in on this surveillance video showing a suspect running from the scene. witnesses heard the gunfire and watched him sprint away. >> i didn't see his face. he ran out and went straight. >> reporter: as detectives work this case the neighborhood has so many questions. tonight won't provide many answers. so instead, for now, they huddle together and wait. >> we all live together -- >> reporter: her family tells me they can't think of any enemies that she might have. they have no idea who may have targeted her. live at police headquarters, randy gyllenhaal nbc 10 news. elsewhere, an innocent bystander shot. nbc 10 rushed to the shooting. it happened just after 8:00. police say a bullet grazed a woman who was two blocks away. officers arrested the suspected shooter. no word on what led up to this

nice start to the weekend. by 10:00 a.m. temperatures about the mid-80s. by noon, still the mid-80s to upper 80s and in the 90s once again into tomorrow. take a look at your weekend forecast. saturday and sunday both looking at mostly sunny skies. temperatures in the 90s. so the heat wave continues. but coming up we'll take a closer look at your shore forecast. a long heat wave in the forecast too. not just over the weekend. that will continue afterwards and our next chance for storms coming up. there's a new era for phillies fans. taking a live look outside. this is citizens bank part of south philly where the team had the first game since the cole hamels trade became official. in a single week they traded several players. i think it's safe to say, the phils, they'll be rebuilding for years to come. let's go live to comcast sportsnet amy fa dual. >> the good news is they got about eight people in return for the three guys. this has been quite a week for cole hamels.

he's been a pitcher in limbo. finally today, the trade to the texas rangers became official as the details were finally ironed out. this afternoon, hamels had to say good-bye. >> it's worth everything. being able to play in front of a fan base that cares and appreciates what you do. >> cole hamels was 18 years old when the phillies made him the 17th overall pick in the 2002 draft. now at 31 he's moving on. over that time the phillies have risen to the top of the baseball heap and fallen again, making hamels expendable. >> i like cole hamels but i'm glad for him. you know you got to rebuild at some point. his pitching wasn't going to get us anywhere. hopefully his prospects will. >> going somewhere and competing, absolutely he got us to the only championship i was alive for. >> the best move logically if you look at it on the surface.

$800,000 in jewelry. police say they hit six different states including new jersey and pennsylvania. police say operation pandora began the trip in 2014 when this group followed a vehicle from a trade show at mt. laurel then they stole more than $200,000 worth of jewels when the victims stopped at a rest area on the jersey turnpike. later, some of the suspects are accused of taking $100,000 in loose diamonds from one place, the tyndall diamond store in rob insville. now to this across the delaware river a mother accused of lying to police about the death of her 2-year-old daughter. police in upper marion were called to the motel 6 yesterday morning. they found a lifeless body of a 2-year-old. police say her mother christina griffith lied to them about prescription medicine they say that griffith eventually told them that the baby swallowed one much her pills and she fell asleep rather than call for

help. elsewhere, police are still searching for a teenage girl kidnapped at gunpoint. they believe patterson was taken around 11:00 last night outside her wilkes-barre home. this man waited for the 16-year-old to get home and then pointed a gun at her and dragged her out of a car. he even fired a shot in the air to stop anyone from following them. patterson's mother says she just wants her daughter back alive. >> she was calling mommy, mommy they're taking me. i said don't worry, janaement i'm going to get you. he had a gun and shot up in the air and told me to get -- >> patterson and lewis were romantically involved and the teen had a protective order against him. the other side of the state. released outside pittsburgh. the escaped inmate suspected of killing a woman while on the run. he was taken into custody one

day after escaping from a work release program. investigators say he strangled a woman he knew about a mile from the jail. they say he stole a gun and then led police on a chase before he was captured. back here at home, a message for you. no more smoking. at least in public housing complexes. that starts wednesday in philadelphia. that's because the housing authority's board of commissioners voted to approve a universal smoking ban earlier this month. that makes if the largest public housing agency to enact such a ban. it forbids smoking inside homes and on public housing property except for the designated outdoor areas. spoke to one resident who was opposed to the ban. >> i think it's ridiculous. i think it's an invasion of privacy. i think they're not allowed to tell us what to do in our homes. >> tenants caught smoking in the housing will be asked to attend

by him back that's the message from officials in zimbabwe. they want the american dentist to face justice on their soil after killing a lion many considered a national mascot. dr. palmer remains in hiding four weeks after killing cecil the lion. it sparked outrage around the world. more than 170,000 people even signed a petition urging the white house to get involved.

palmer could face criminal charges in zimbabwe including poaching. cecil was a favorite of locals and tourists from around the world. >> know that something is powerful and symbolic and cecil could die so treacherously and tragically, it shows what a slippery slope we are when protecting the african species of wildlife. >> palmer has said i deeply regret the pursuit of an activity i love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion. a wrestling icon has died. fans are mourning the loss of rowdy rod i piper. his agent says the wrestler died peacefully in his sleep last night. roderick tombs was his real name. the 61-year-old was known for trademark kilts and trash talk. he wrestled against the likes of hulk hogan.

he went on to become a television and movie actor as well. he leaves behind his wife and four children. he was 61 years old. also new at 11:00, a summertime survival story. a haddon field teenager is recovering at the hospital tonight after a dirt bike crash deep in the woods of south jersey. as nbc 10's george spencer, the young man has a harrowing tale and a warning for other dirt bike riders. >> i was hoping i can't wait until i'm sitting in a hospital bed. that's what i was looking forward to. >> not many people look forward to being in a hospital bed. but he has his reasons. the 15-year-old was rescued last night after a dirt bike crash left him unable to walk and all alone. >> i think when it happened i was in like shock and it happened so quickly. it hurt yes. but it -- i wasn't really in like pain. >> reporter: miller only got this new bike back in june.

yesterday afternoon, he intended to take a quick spin in the township woods, so thickly wooded, we couldn't even see the trail below from sky force 10. >> my leg smacked directly on the tree and flew me off the bike and i spun around and landed on the ground. >> reporter: miller's leg broke badly, dangling below the hip. rescue crews began to search the woods and he first tried to get on the bike and tried to use tree branches as crutches before finally dragging himself down the trail on his elbows. it was 2 1/2 long hours here in yesterday's heavy thunderstorms before he finally saw his grandfather and friend. they found him exhausted, muddied, laying in the trail bed. >> i was super lucky that they found me when they did. >> reporter: he's reflecting on what he'll tell other teens. bring a cell phone.

the delaware beaches that looking good. as far as the heat wave is concerned, we've been in the 90s since tuesday. the heat wave is going to last through the week and temperatures staying in the low 90s. it's going to be an extended heat wave. right now temperatures pretty comfortable. 79 degrees in philadelphia. not a humid 79 degrees. a very comfortable 79. 67 in millville. 75 degrees in dover. 76 in wilmington. as we go into tomorrow morning, it will be really comfortable outside. then hot by the afternoon. we are nice and dry on radar. we don't expect any rain as we go over the weekend. the temperatures will be getting back into the 90s. take a look at future weather. pretty pleasant overnight tonight. tomorrow for your saturday, we're looking at sunny skies. hot temperatures again through the afternoon. not very humid, though. then we go into sunday same weather patterns in place across both weekend days. that's good news. if you have outdoor plans. for the rest of the overnight,
