forecast for today and weekend with meteorologist bill henley with the first alert forecast. >> we saw some rain overnight. still tracking some rain but not in philadelphia. the rain has ended, the showers, light rainfall in central, southern delaware and into south jersey. the line has pushed it to the south. drying conditions for philadelphia during the day. keep an umbrella handy. we'll be up to 80 degrees and still climbing at lunch time today. we'll go through the forecast hour by hour to show you where you will need an umbrella this friday. right now, let's check in with first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. happy friday, jessica. >> happy friday is right, bill. we are deal willing ongoing construction on the schuylkill expressway. for right now, we're on the spring garden street ramp. from the eastbound schuylkill expressway, that part of the ramp is closed. let's check out the drive times for the actual schuylkill expressway. you can see right here, right through the curve, moving along

nicely still even with the ongoing construction spots. 13 minutes eastbound from the blue route up towards the vine street expressway. if you're traveling mass transit, so far for this morning, no problems for new jersey transit, septa or the patco speed line. 4:02. new from overnight, twoç famils and a firefighter is hospitalized after getting sick from carbon monoxide fumes. it happenhood in island avenue. seven people, including the firefighter and two children were taking to presbyterian hospital. everyone is expected to be okay. the bakery behind the bread use for your cheese steaks or hoagies is shutting down and shipping out of philadelphia. amoroso's announced it's moving to camden and laying off hundreds of employees. what's the mood there this morning, matt? >> the workers are still coming

and going like they always have. behind me here, this is the factory, the bakery that's been in operation for decades here. the news went out to these workers in a memo on wednesday night. layoffs won't take effect until october. now still that's a big change for 2900 workers here. amoroso's has outgrown the bakery on 55th street. it bought a facility in belmar two years ago. the operations will be moving there. the issue is that a new company is being formed with that move. the positions will be terminated. the people who work here will have to interview for new jobs. layoffs here are expected to be complete by early december. i just spoke with a worker out here who says this is very difficult news. they did expect this for a couple of years. this had been a possibility and so now that time has come, we're going to hear from that employee coming up in the next 30 minutes. live in southwest philadelphia, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. 4:03 and 69 degrees outside.

a road rage attack caught on camera. just watch as the man takes out a baseball bat and starts swinging. it happened tuesday night in north philadelphia just before midnight. 26-year-old victim pulls up to a stop sign, then a guy with a baseball bat attacks, smashing windows and beating the woman. the victim's mother thinks her daughter must have angered the suspect a few blocks away. >> he attacked as soon as she got out of the car. he didn't even give her a chance. >> they break all the window. you can hear the popping of the windows. >> the suspect then leaves in a dark suv. the vick was rutim was rushed t hospital. her family says she has a broken wrist and hopes somebody recognizes the suv. police just released this surveillance video yesterday. in the distance you con see the man slam the woman to the ground on passyunk avenue and grab her

cell phone. police hope someone will recognize this man and turn him in. there are a lot of unanswered questions surrounding the death of an 11-year-old boy. laquan lattimore ended up two miles away dead in darby creek. his death was ruled an accidental drowning. what we don't know is what happened to his bike and backpack or who he was with and they can't explain why the nonswimmer would have gotten into the murky, fast-moving water. >> there's a lot to be investigated. a lot of people to be looked at. we just don't believe that it happened the way it did. >> everything is just like in riddles. >> despite the confusing questions, police don't think the death was malicious. investigators tell us whoever was with laquan when it happened is not in trouble. they just want to talk to them to get answersç for the family this evening, family and

friends will remember a george redner. an emt from the bucks county rescue squad was trespassing when the train hit him near the levittown station on saturday morning. this morning, pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane has less than 48 hours to turn herself in now that she's been charged with several crimes. the montgomery county district attorney announced the charges yesterday. they include perjury, obstruction and conspiracy. kane is accused of leaking secret grand jury information to punish two former staffers she felt were critical of her. tom wolf is among those calling for her to resign. >> i don't know how she can defend herself against those serious charges and remain in office and do the job we pennsylvanians need her to do to be the chief law enforcement officer. >> kane says she's innocent and

is refusing to step down. read more about the investigation and the grand jury findings right now on the futurecast news app. fired a second time. that's what's about to happen to a philadelphia police narcotics officer who won his job back after being cleared of corruption charges. this time, police say he failed a drug test. charles ramsey says perry betts will be suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss. back in may, a jury acquitted betts and five other officers on federal corruption charges. a judge ruled the department had to give the officers their jobs back. they have since filed defamation suits against city officials. the papal planning has entered a new phase, now that people know the scope of the road closures in the area, they're trying to figure out what happens next. that includes business owners who will have to plan for the

changes. many in manayunk say they will try and tough it out. >> this one, it's open, man. >> i think we'll get a lot of traffic. i think people biking, using the toe path to get here, conshohocken, into center city. >> now you won't be able to get to manayunk via the schuylkill expressway because it will be shut down from plymouth meeting to south philly. remember this square -- three square mile traffic box in philly. you can leave for manayunk but you can't get back into that box. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> tracking some showers this morning and a possibility of some light rain in delaware and south jersey. right now it's looking dry, though. this is a view from cape may. the temperatures are falling right now and the rain falling, it's exclusively in delaware and south jersey. the rain has already ended in pennsylvania.

this is a very light rainfall for dover. sussex county seeing steadier rainfall. if we do get heavier showers, it will be well to the south, cape may getting a rainy start. there might be a few sprinkles into this afternoon. hour by hour, future weather shows at 7:00 this morning, very light rainfall. and it's dry for pennsylvania, delaware and into south jersey. but not everybody will see the rain at the same time. at 10:00 this morning, could see steadier showers in kent county and into sussex county. it will not be an all-day affair.ç the dry air is pushing the showers at 1:00 in the afternoon. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast, 78 for the pocono mountains, sunshine breaking through. sunshine for doylestown, trenton and mount holly. a few more clouds hanging out in mount holly. mount holly should be dry for most of the day.

a chance of showers for cape may and dover and rehoboth. late day, those showers will be out of here. we'll see breaks of sunshine and sunshine will be breaking through the clouds for philadelphia. 83 this afternoon, also up to 83 for wilmington and williamstown. a look at the weekend forecast when i come back in ten minutes. >> yes, the weekend is upon us. first we have to get you to work on this friday morning. jessica boyington is watching the roads for you. >> we're watching new jersey on 295 around the black horse pike. active work zones throughout the area. not a lot of traffic if you're going northbound or southbound. signs taking out some lanes, mainly the shoulders, though. a 13-minute drive time headed southbound from 38 up towards this point at the black horse pike. you're traveling out on the 42 freeway. five minutes if you're headed northbound from 55 up towards the walt whitman bridge. slow heading in that direction but still moving. we looked at the walt, that's doing okay, no problems for the

tac pal, the betsy or the ben. two lanes on the right-hand side of the ben being blocked heading into philadelphia. that doesn't affect us until rush hour begins at about 6:30 this morning. we'll keep you updated on that backup. more drive times coming up in the next 30 minutes. a contagious disease is spreading in new york. ten people have now died. what health officials are doing to stop the deadly outbreak. the first republican debate did not disappoint. ten candidates, a lot of opinions and one standout. hear who donald trump called stupid in a contentious debate. plus, the end of an error, jon stewart signs off after 16 years as host of "the daily show."

governor christie, make your point. >> when you're sending a subcommittee blowing hot air about this, you can say things like that. >> ten of the gop presidential hopefuls clashed in a prime time debate and new jersey governor chris christie was in the middle of one of the most heated exchanges. it was the first showdown of the 2016 election cycle. the top ten candidates took the stage in front of 5,000 people in cleveland. rosemary connors is live in the digital operations center. >> tracy, not surprisingly, the candidate who received much of the attention was front-runner donald trump. he faced some tough questions about his past and his future. he refused to rule out an independent bid for president if he is not the republican nominee. the moderators asked him about

the candidates will face off october 13th in nevada. then des moines, manchester. next year the debates will move to miami and wisconsin. comedian jon stewart broadcast his last episode of "the daily show" last night. an all-star roster helped stewart say farewell to the fake news program. many former correspondents returned to bid stewart farewell. he closed out the show welcoming new jersey rocker bruce springsteen who performed a rousing rendition of "born to run." new york city officials say ten people have now died in the outbreak of legionnaires disease. doctors diagnosedç 100 people with the disease. five cooling towers tested positive for the bacteria that causes the disease. the city's health department

ordered all buildings with cooling towers to be tested over the next two weeks and decontaminated if necessary. a westchester employee tested positive for legionnaires disease last month. the cooling towers at eight campus buildings had higher than accepted levels of the bacteria and the university took steps to kill that bacteria. camp activities at a burlington county ymca will continue today after concerns over dirty lake water there. they did this because several campers had gotten sick. the "y" says it's probably a symptom as bug. 4:17 and 69 degrees outside. the city of camden is taking steps to make sure schools and parents are on the same page ahead of the new school year. they met with parents to talk about big changes coming to city schools. earlier this year, the school district announced that five of its lowest performing schools would be taken over by nonprofit

groups. the district says the move was necessary to improve performance. right now only one in ten students at these schools perform at grade level. >> an update on a controversial new standardized test in new jersey. the state says the test will continue but they won't hold extra weight in teacher evaluations, at least not for the upcoming school year. the parcc test results are used in a factor in evaluating teachers. results were expected to account for 30% of a teacher's performance grades. yesterday, the state agreed to keep the results at only 10% this year. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 18 minutes after 4:00. clouds came in late yesterday afternoon and overnight, we seen some rain. the rain has already tapered off in philadelphia. the wind, though, that's just getting started. we'll see some gusty winds this afternoon. but we'll also see sunshine in

philadelphia. the clouds have already broken. you can see some sky clearing overhead. see some stars this morning. 69 degrees right now in philadelphia. 87% humidity, definitely higher than it was yesterday when it comes to humidity. the temperature, though, cooler. now in the 60s for philadelphia. we were holing most of the morning yesterday in the 70s. the flag is at rest here at the nbc 10 studios. during the afternoon we could see wind gusts that top 20 miles an hour. but as far as rainfall is concern, you can see where the clouds are across delaware and south jersey. already seeing clearing skies in allentown. bright sunshine for the lehigh valley and into the pocono mountains. but delaware, south jersey, might want to keep an umbrella handy. wilmington may stay dry today. still a chance of showers across dover and atlantic city and into cape may. that's where we're tracking very light rainfall right now. doesn't look like we'll get any heavy rainfall but there are

spots where it's a bit steadier in delaware and sometimes during the morning we'll see that streaming into cape may. so a dreary start at the shore. inland, we'll get breaks of sunshine and 60s will warm into the 70s by 9:00. 75 degrees. a little bit of a northeasterly wind at 7 miles an hour. it's increasing at the noontime hour, 80 degrees with breaks of sunshine at lunch time and still climbing. low 80sç this afternoon. but as skies clear out, the temperatures will warm up. the good news is, saturday and sunday, even though it will be warmer, the humidity will stay low for both days. 87 degrees saturday afternoon. and close to the 90 degree mark on sunday. there are more showers, opportunities for wet weather in our forecast in the seven-day that is, that's coming up in the next half hour. >> see you then. 20 minutes past 4:00 right now. let's see if you have problems to contend with this morning.

what are you seeing, jessica? >> 422 around trooper road on the eastbound side is where we normally see the delay. that's right back here. that's from 29 up towards the schuylkill expressway, still an eight-minute trip. word of an accident scene on 95 on the northbound side. that's between academy road and woodhaven road. it is blocking out one lane. you can see the drive time headed northbound from the vine street expressway up towards woodhaven road, only about a 13-minute trip. it's not really affecting much. we don't have tons of traffic right now. the pa turnpike, the cars are green and moving right there. 22 minutes headed westbound or eastbound from valley forge up towards route 1. 24 minutes at the most. taxi drivers in wilmington are fuming. we'll tell you what the mayor did that has them so mad and why they say taxpayers should be angry, too. also, ever wonder what

for shelter locations and fees, just tap on the nbc 10 news app. from our delaware bureau, taxi drivers in wilmington are upset about new billboards promoting a competitor. the billboards feature a picture of mayor dennis williams welcoming the ride sharing service uber to wilmington. the city paid for the billboard campaign. taxi drivers say tack payer money should not be used to publicize a business that is undercutting them. the city will spend $8,000 on four billboards that will remain in place for the rest of the month. we asked the city if it's common practice to promote businesses on billboards with taxpayer money. the city council communications director says it is unusual but the mayor does do things to help businesses. businesses will be back to normal at the deptford mall after a muddy mess yesterday. skyforce 10 was over the scene of a large water main break in
