nbc 10 breaking news. that breaking news is from ferguson, missouri. where as you here there, shots were fired between police and someone as protesters were squaring off with police on the one-year anniversary of michael brown's death. a news conference just ended. we'll bring you up to speed. also we're following this breaking news from philadelphia's lawn crest section. two people died in a one-car crash that happened just a short time ago. we're on scene there. good morning. i'm chris cato. let's begin with that accident. here's nbc 10's first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> right now we're looking at a picture of that accident scene. there's police activity clearly on the scene right here.

one vehicle turned over on the roosevelt boulevard on the southbound side between adams avenue and whitaker avenue. more updates to come. for now traffic is being directed around the scene. we also have an accident scene on 95 between the walt whitman bridge and columbus boulevard with lane restrictions there. as for our drive times, everything is still looking okay, headed into the center city çarea. on the southbound side of 95, woodhaven road up towards the vine, 13 minutes, the schuylkill expressway is doing okay. the vine street expressway doing okay around 8th street. chris? let's go back to the scene in long crest of that accident that apparently killed two people this morning. matt delucia is live on scene for us there. matt, we know you've got there just a few minutes ago. what can you tell us at this point? >> there are a lot of family members out here at the scene, very emotional. you can see the car that's overturned on adams avenue by

whitaker. just off of roosevelt boulevard. there are closures on the roosevelt boulevard right now, the southbound lanes just a portion of it that is shut down there, the right-hand lane. some of the traffic is still getting by at the moment. there is still an accident investigation out here right now. we've learned it's a man and woman that were involved in this crash. one vehicle involved right now. this happened shortly after 2:00 this morning and it appears that the vehicle crashed into a pole that is right by a cell phone tower. that vehicle overturned and the two individuals who were in the car were ejected and thrown, i would say, at least 30 to 40 feet from where we are right now. those bodies were just removed about 20 minutes ago. again, a lot of family members out here right now, very emotional, crying, holding one another. very distraught over seeing what was going on out here. we did just talk with somebody who knows one of the victims. we're trying to get that audio

for you coming up in the next 30 minutes. for now, we're live in long crest, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. we switch gears a bit at 4:03. monday morning and the weather. here's meteorologist bill henley with the first alert forecast. >> it is comfortable but there are clouds in the area, mainly in the western suburbs where we're seeing isolated showers. that possibility will stay with us this morning. most of the area will be dry. 70 degrees at 6:00. by 9:00 up to 74. partly sunny skies at 9:00. we'll see more clouds as we go into the afternoon hours. can't rule out a shower later today. 78 degrees. neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. sounds good, bill. 4:03 now. breaking news. let's get to ferguson, missouri now. police exchanged gunfire with a man apparently during a demonstration marking one year since the shooting death of michael brown. a short time ago police reported

that the alleged shooter is now in surgery in critical condition. tracy davidson is live in our digital operations center. a news conference just wrapped up there in missouri. right? >> right. we also learned there have been a couple of arrests and the four officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave. this all comes after a new protest had been peaceful until late last night. four officers game under heavy gunfire and returned shots. as i just said, we learned that the officers are on administrative leave. police and protesters faced off, take a look at the scene last night. >> back up, back up. >> over here. [ gunfire ] >> get down. >> several hundred protesters were gathered when shots rang out just after 11:00. the shooting happened in the

same area hit by rioting and ç lo looting that took place after michael brown was killed. take a look at these pictures. these were posted on twitter from the st. louis county police department. brown was unarmed. he was killed by ferguson police officer darren wilson after a struggle. early in the day demonstrators paused for a moment of silence remembering the 4 1/2 hours that brown's body laid motionless in the middle of the street. his death sparked national outrage and ignited racial tensions between the police and the public. >> we have to all be in this together or it won't get any better. if i stand by and do nothing, i'm part of the problem. >> not much has changed. just looking for a change.

>> a grand jury declined to indict the officer and the department of justice found no violations of brown's civil rights. state organizers of some of the weekend demonstrations pledged a day of civil disobedience. we've not heard specifics. again, we are waiting for continued word of the condition of the suspect that was shot overnight. live in the digital operations center, tracy davidson, nbc 10 news. new from overnight, a suspected drunk driver slammed into a house in philadelphia, setting the home on fire. look at this video here. inside that house was an 84-year-old man. nbc 10 was on the scene on bustleton avenue and ronhurst. fire crews arrived and put out the fire. medics took the 84-year-old homeowner and woman who was behind the wheel of the car to the hospital with minor injuries. right now, police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy in southwest philadelphia. the teen was shot in the head

last night on reedland street. we'll keep checking on the investigation there and pass along any new information as we get it. in north philadelphia, we're learning about another 16-year-old boy now in critical condition after a shooting. the teen was on west sergeant street last night when someone shot him in the back and in the arm. no word yet on what led to that shooting and police have not arrested anyone there. today, four people accused of election fraud in philadelphia will face a judge. a preliminary hearing is scheduled for four former city election officers. the district attorney says during the 2014 general election, the four cast extra votes. loved ones are renewing calls for justice four months after a hit and run in philadelphia killed a toddler and injured his mother. last night, family and friends celebrated what would have been a third birthday for little

david. they made posters and t-shirts and held a vigil on masher street. david and his mother were crossing the street in april when an suv hit them and kept going. david's mother is still recovering from her injuries. she was at the vigil last night. she talked to us about her son. >> he was always playing basketball, dancing outside, playing with the kids. he was supposed to start school this year at the light house. now look, he's not here with us. >> now, police still have not made any arrests. they say the owners of the suv that fled the scene had loaned the vehicle to a 19-year-old at the time of the crash and in cases like this, it's difficult to prove who was behind the wheel.ç now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> eight minutes after 4:00. the temperatures have been falling. we're in the 50s, 60s and 70s in

the area. clouds will be on the increase. that's going to make for below normal temperatures this afternoon. could see isolated showers today. i'm tracking rain and thunderstorms. overnight tonight and into tomorrow, could see heavy downpours with the storms that are on the way for tuesday. right now, 70 degrees in reading. philadelphia 71 and cape may is at 70 degrees. clouds overhead, dry right now in philadelphia. that's a live view looking across the delaware this morning. only a slight chance of a shower in some of the western suburbs will likely stay dry for much of the day in philadelphia. extreme western berks county into lancaster county, northeastern maryland and cecil county, a few sprinkles this morning, nothing heavy there. nothing heavy expected. mostly what we'll be in for are clouds. the clouds will take over this afternoon, 69 for the pocono mountains, 70s for allentown, quakertown and reading.

happening live right now out in philadelphia on the roosevelt boulevard, an overturned vehicle, deadly accident scene as well. police activity on the scene. for right now it is on the southbound side of the boulevard and traffic is being directed through the area and around the scene. if you want to avoid that area in general, take wyoming avenue and turn on to castor avenue. that scoots by the scene. more updates in the next ten minutes or so. we also have an accident scene around washington avenue on 95 northbound. the schuylkill expressway doing great so far this morning. you can see everything is moving along east, westbound, 12-minute drive times in both directions. if you won the right to buy a regional rail pass for the pope's visit, listen up. there's another important deadline happening today that you need to know about. we'll tell you all about that, next. and we have new information about this deadly plane crash out west.

initial news reports said the plane was carrying an eagles banner. next, we'll tell you what we learned from the man who claims to have hired a plane to fly such a banner over a cowboys practice.

4:14 now. we have new information on a deadply plane crash, a banner plane crash near los angeles. overnight we learned that the plane was not the one hired to carry an eagles fans message over the dallas cowboys training camp. a different banner plane did crash in compton, california yesterday. pilot died. major news websites initially reported that the plane was carrying an allegheeagles banne.

later our sister station in l.a. confirmed it was a different banner plane that crashed. the eagles banner plane was next in line to take off but it never did because everything was grounded after the crash. eric emanuele claims he was the one who hired the plane. he plans to donate the money to the pilot's family. greg hardy helped pay for this banner which reads, we still dem boyz! >> we knew that was going to happen. we heard rumors about it but we thought it would happen during training camp. it made you feel a certain way. it is what it is. >> we can hardly wait until they mix it up on the field. the birds host the cowboys on

september 20th. if you were one of the winners of septa's papal pass lottery as it's being called, the deadline to pay ends today at 3:00 p.m. the deadline was extendedç las week after several winners didn't complete their transactions. if that's not done by today at 3:00 p.m., those winners will no longer have the opportunity to bypasses. a second round of e-mail passes will go out tonight. pope francis arrives in philadelphia in 46 days. road closures will be in effect for the entire weekend from the city to the suburbs. that includes city avenue which will be shut down for about two miles. some businesses say that will force them to close. >> the dance school is closing down. there's not going to be any classes. >> i think it's a good thing. it's just for the weekend. >> and residents are being told to prepare for severe traffic congestion on alternate routes. pope francis will be spending the night at the st. charles

philadelphia. humidity is at 73%. we're running a little bit cooler than we were yesterday, down by a couple degrees in philadelphia. completely dry at the shore, beach avenue, you'll see sunshine to start with. clouds are going to be increasing during the day. along with the temperatures but it's not going to be a big warmup. 71 in philadelphia. look at the 60s for wilmington, trenton, wrightstown down to 62 degrees and north and west, it's 63 in quakertown. doylestown and blue bell. you'll find 60s for delaware and into south jersey. millville is 64. right along the coastline, cape may harbor is 74 degrees right now. some of the clouds, high clouds that are already starting to move into the area, haven't completely taken over the area. we'll get sunshine before heavy rain moves in for tonight and tomorrow. for today, you'll see partly sunny skies. tonight we'll be watching the radar. we may seeç a sprinkle during e day today. look at the potentially heavy rainfall early tomorrow morning.

that's 2:00 tomorrow morning. that continues during the morning commute. at 7:00 in the morning, heavy rainfall in bucks county and into the trenton area. showers extend into new jersey and delaware as well. the chance of some steadier rainfall later in the morning at 10:00, look at the heavy downpours in parts of new jersey and some of the suburbs as well. during the afternoon, the showers become more spotty. at 4:00, a chance of showers, while the steadier rain is to the south and east. for today, you get to use your sun glasses to start with. clouds will break a little bit but it will be mostly cloudy. 74 at 9:00, 78 degrees at lunch time. seven-day forecast to show you how long that rain will last coming up in the next half hour. >> okay, bill, we look ford to that. let's get you caught up on traffic. we're following a fatal accident in long crest section of philadelphia. jessica boyington has an update on that. >> still seeing a lot of lanes

blocked on the scene here where we have a deadly accident scene. we have police activity there as well, directing traffic around this scene. this is on the southbound side of the roosevelt boulevard. that's between whitaker and adams avenue. traffic is getting by the scene right now but if you do want to avoid it altogether, take wyoming avenue to castor avenue. we have an accident scene on 95 on the northbound side around washington avenue blocking all lanes. right now take 611 to get through the area. we are starting to see backup behind that scene. these are our cameras approaching the walt whitman bridge. we'll have more updates for you on both of these accident scenes to come in the next ten minutes, chris. ten days into august but parents know that now is the time to start planning for fall. we're talking back to school, of course. next we have advice on how to save money on those must-have school supplies. and a different kind of

anniversary of michael brown's death. we're also following breaking news here at home. an overnight crash in philadelphia's lawncrest section killed two people. we're live with details on how that crash happened. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm chris cato. it is monday morning and we're actually going to begin with that crash in the lawncrest neighborhood of philadelphia. >> matt delucia is live on the scene. matt. >> reporter: quite a crash out here. there is the vehicle right behind me on adam avenue between the roosevelt boulevard and whitaker. the car you see right there is overturned. a lot of investigators is around it right now. the car hit that pole that you see there. quite a bit of damage. look at where that car is right now. i'd say about 40 to 50 yards away is where the two victims landed after being ejected. right now you're seeing that is where the victims were. those bodies were taken away about an hour ago. we have video for you now.
