that's all he kept saying, my mom is dead. >> a mother killed her 4-year-old daughter wounded along with a family friend. what happened just before the gunfire erupted? good evening. we will get to that in a moment. we begin with the heavy rain moving in. look at nbc 10 first alert radar. a lot of rain moving in from the west. we're tracking how long it will stick around and whether it will impact the morning commute. let's get straight to sheena parve parveen. >> we expect heavy rain to move in. most of it here overnight but some could linger for the morning commute, especially if

you leave early. heavy rain approaching the area. locally, we do have a few showers around, especially in cape may. this is some moderate to heavy rain starting to move in. it stretches up toward the philadelphia area. we have light to moderate rain approaching philadelphia right now. the brunt of all of this is not here yet. future weather as we go closer to midnight, the rain gets closer. to tomorrow morning, 6:00 a.m., you will probably run into heavy rain. temperatures right around the low 70s by then. then i think for most of the morning commute tomorrow, between 8:00 to 9:00, a lot of this rain will start to leave the area but still a chance for thunderstorms through tomorrow. we will look at the timing of that coming up. from our delaware bureau, a mother shot to death as she was about to take her kids to the dollar store. tonight, her 4-year-old daughter and a family friend are both recovering from gun shot wounds. george spencer is live at

wilmington police headquarters. it appears they were all caught in the cross fire? >> reporter: cross fire that originated with a fight between two men out on this street. the neighbors watched a 9-year-old boy running from this scene saying that his mom had been shot. >> when i got to him, he was saying my mom is shot. my sister, can you go get my sister? >> reporter: misty cannot get past the horror she saw in the young boy as he ran from the gunfire in this crime scene. a young boy who witnessed his mother shot to death and his 4-year-old sister and an adult friend also hit by the bullets. >> i heard gunshots walking down the street. >> reporter: this woman says her mother was just passing by when she was hit in the left leg. witnesses tell us a fight involving the dead woman's boyfriend outside this house on west 7th street erupted in

gunfire as the young mom and her kids were heading out to the dollar store. the children inside the home likely saw it all unfold. >> for a kid to witness their mother being killed. that's hard for anybody. >> reporter: the surveillance camera hangs steps from the shooting scene. neighbors say it was little help because it either doesn't work or is not monitored. a city wide concern noted in a recent wilmington safety review. >> put the guns down. >> reporter: as a prayer circle this evening, we heard calls for peace. some neighbors seem hopeless, includie inine inine inine inin. >> i don't feel safe. >> this right here is like a walking iraq. not knowing whether you are going to be gunned down. >> reporter: witnesses say the dead woman's boyfriend was taken into custody by police just for questioning as they work to track down the shooter. the two survivors, the little

girl and the adult woman should recover. >> george, all right. another case of gunfire, in chester county tonight. that's where a woman is in the hospital and a man is in custody. the woman was shot in the stomach. it's not clear what sparked this shooting. a scare at the shore today. rescuers had to revive a 12-year-old boy after sand collapsed on him. witnesses tell us he was digging a hole with other children on the 17th street beach this afternoon when the sand caved in. lifeguards helped get the boy out of the sand. beach patrol staffers worked to revive him. >> real vividly the danger that there is danger in digging in the sand and it's unstable. it will collapse in an instant. >> it's illegal to dig a hole more than a foot deep on the beach. as for the boy, he is in stable condition.

demonstrators gather tonight in north philadelphia to mark the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of michael brown. 50 people marched down broad and erie streets to protest brown's death. brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed in ferguson, missouri. his death sparked outrage and protests across the country. in ferguson itself tonight, it's a community on edge. a state of emergency was declared after calls for racial justice last night were drowned out by the sounds of gunfire. police say they came under attack and fired back wounding an 18-year-old suspect. that suspect is now facing a number of charges. today hundreds of protesters marched peacefully to the federal courthouse in st. louis. police did arrest 50 people who jumped a temporary gate. loretta lynch said renewed tension call for police and community leaders to work together to improve relationships.

>> not only does violence obscure any message of peaceful protest, it places the community as well as the officers who are seeking to protect it in harm's way. >> he willer today, protesters shut down a bridge near st. louis, placing yellow boxes with the word s ferguson is everywhee on the ground there. here at home, caught on video. a masked robber attacks a gas station clerk, kicking in a door and beating him. the clerk reveals how quick thinking helped scare the crook away. keith jones live tonight in strawberry mansion. the clerk walked you right through this crime? >> reporter: that's right. the victim told me the guy walked through the front doors, went to the back of the store, then sprinted up toward the register, kicked down the door. the owner told me that he had very little time to act. >> my back this place. punch him.

>> reporter: this man said it took three seconds, one to jump kick the door and two around the corner and three to tackle him. >> i try to defend myself. >> reporter: beaten and alone in the store. >> my eye put in the fingers and then just hit me on the back. >> reporter: he reached for the phone to call 911 and the suspect ran out without taking anything. that doesn't mean he will get away. an hour and a half earlier, police say this is the suspect, six feet tall, ordering cigarettes, perhaps casing the place. they point to the same gray shoes, used to sprint and jump and kick in a locked door, leaving this damage behind and sending this man home for five days tending to his wounds. >> i didn't know anybody can break the door and come inside like that. very, very scared. >> reporter: police aren't sure which way the guy ran out this front door. police do say if you see this guy, they urge you to call 911

from our jersey shore bureau, another road rage attack. a driver beaten and stabbed. the people who did it are on the loose. it's the second time in a week a driver has been attacked in our area. >> reporter: it's road rage taken to a violent level. a physical fight in the middle of highway 88 caught on camera. >> it's unusual for road rage to turn to physical violence. >> reporter: this is the tail end of the fight. watch as three suspects punch a 39-year-old victim. one suspect even holding him as a friend flows a few and police say they stabbed the victim with a knife three times before running back to their car and speeding away. >> there were three people in the dark colored acura with new york registration. >> reporter: it started a mile before that video was taken. the victim told police the suspect was yelling out a car

window before literally taking the fight outside. this video is now making the rounds on social media and from police as they search for the suspects. carol says she drove for a living and admits to having road rage herself. >> i keep it within my car. i won't -- you don't know who is out there. you don't know what they're capable of doing. there's a lot of crazies in the world. >> reporter: a brutal attack with the wife and child watching. the victim is okay. police could use more witnesses to help catch these three suspects. >> this came days after another case of road rage caught on video in philadelphia. you can see a man attack a woman and smash her car with a baseball bat. happened last tuesday in north philadelphia. the woman was left with a broken wrist. the suspect took off in a dark colored suv. police are still trying to track this guy right here -- track him

down. video of two men suspected slashing tires. this comes from philadelphia police. the slashings happened around 2:00 in the morning on july 26. later that morning, neighbors showed us the damage done. they hit cars on queen, south swanson and south 3rd streets. environmentalists are blaming a malfunction ingmalfun station. they installed them to help alleviate flooding. the plume is out of the ordinary but insists the water is safe. it was caused by buildup silt and water pouring from the pipe. new at 11:00, a shark is enjoying the waters at the jersey shore. this one hasn't been spotted, but its every move is being tracked. it's a 100 pound hammerhead.

it surfaced less than three miles from shore sunday morning. he has been swimming in the waters for the last week. he is tagged and scientists are tracking him for research. that same group of researchers is tracking mary leigh. she spent time off the jersey shore in may. she was in the waters off new york. she inspired a twitter account @maryleighshark. well, we have been tracking rain through the afternoon and now it's getting closer. the rain is approaching. we have heavy rain in the forecast overnight tonight. some of that depending on how early you leave tomorrow morning could move into the morning commute for part of the area. i will show you that in a second. we have a chance of thunderstorms as we go through part of the day tomorrow. any of that heavy rain could

lead to localized flooding if your area is prone to that. the flooding threat with tomorrow's weather ends overnight tonight. that's medium. we expect the showers to move quickly. i don't think they will shut in one area for several hours. we could see localized flooding, lightning and high wind with any thunderstorms as well as hail. tornado threat will be on the low side. here is a look at the radar. we have light rain trying to move through. cape may seeing some pretty good rainfall right now. this is just a line of showers ahead of the main area of heavy rain. the rain moving through philadelphia right now, that's mostly on the light to moderate side across 76. this is moving into camden county and down into cape may county near avalon. this is all going to continue sliding up the shore. we will see more of this even heavier as we go through the overnight hours tonight. big picture shows you the rain back off to our west. the heaviest approaching washington. we expect a lot of the heavy rain to be falling while you are

sleeping. that depends on how early you leave tomorrow morning. future weather, so that heavy rain gets closer around 3:00, 4:00 in the morning. now closer to 6:00 a.m., you see showers, scattered. possibly thunderstorms at this time. this is 6:00 a.m. the reds show you heavy rain, even orange. if this is how early you leave, you might run into some of this. be careful. by 8:00, 9:00, it moves up to the northeast. i think areas like mercer and ocean county the best chance of seeing heavy rain by 9:00 a.m. some showers will try to linger through noon. we could have a break in the middle of the day by the afternoon, around the evening commute, scattered showers and storms around. that could linger into the evening. finally we clear out as we go into wednesday. tomorrow is going to be rainy, especially early in the morning. humidity does drop as we go into wednesday. as far as the rainfall totals, we could see from a half an inch to closer to an inch where we see the heavier showers.

some areas may see about an inch and a half. the longer periods of rain. we can't rule out localized flooding. tonight though, we will see the rain mostly after midnight. temperature around 70 in philadelphia. the heavy rain, most of you will sleep when this is happening. early and late thunderstorm chances tomorrow. staying warm and humid through the day. temperatures in the mid 80s. conditions improve as we go into wednesday. you don't want to forget the umbrella tomorrow. the rain boots, too. you will wake up to wet roads and maybe a lot of puddles around, too, since we expect the rain to be heavy. by thursday, that's a really nice day, around 83. low humidity, sunny. after tomorrow -- tonight and tomorrow's rain, we're going to shape up really good going into the weekend. as we go into the weekend, we are going to get hot and humid. we will be watching for rain chances over the weekend, too. >> eagles playing in 88 degree heat on sunday. >> does not feel like football weather. >> no, it doesn't. does it, john clark?
