nbc 10 break news. >> gun fire erupts at a water ice shot. and a young person was shot in the head. >> george spencer is live at the scene. any word on their condition? >> reporter: just confirming that 19-year-old victim is truly fighting for his life and it may have been the result of a small time neighborhood fist fight. and the this water ice shop crowded with customers when they came and shot the victim from

behind. >> i was in the back taking care of some customer's ordinaers whi heard two gun shots. >> reporter: that victim was standing at the front counter with two of his friends, those friends were not injured. two gun shots fired and as the crowd scattered, no one apparently got a very good look at the shooter. at this point, philadelphia police are asking anyone who knows anything about the shooting or what happened earlier this afternoon to reach out with tips. i'm george spencer. to more breaking news now out of central jersey. one caught fire and exploded as you see right here. look that flames in this video. crash happened just before 8:00

tonight. the two drivers escaped with only minor injuries. good evening everyone. another big story we're following tonight, an 8-year-old shot under mysterious circumstances. he found the gun in a park and shot himself. >> nbc 10, where they're searching the boy's house? >> reporter: yes. and the problem is that detectives need a crucial piece of evidence, the actual handgun. the boy told police he found the gun while playing in a park earlier today and it accidently went off. the story goes like this, an 8-year-old boy playing in this german town park stumbles upon handgun in a plastic bag and he grabbed it and accidently shot

himself in the leg. parents at the east town german rec center say if this is true, it's a cause for concern. the boy walked home. police say criminals often leave handguns in hiding places to sell on the street or use during a crime. >> some of the criminals and drug dealers do stash their guns and sometimes they do hide them in recreation centers. >> reporter: but detectives want to make sure that is actually what happened here. they executed a search warrant at the boy's home, they haven't found the gun. mean while, parents that play ground say no one saw any gun fire or saw blood, so they're pretty surprised no one witnessed the shooting happened.

>> it would be very unusual because so many kids come through this park on a day-to-day basis. >> reporter: police say what is certain is that the little boy was indeed shot. he does have a gun shot wound. the next step is figuring out exactly where the gun came from and who it might be long to. tonight a delaware man is charged in a shooting that killed a woman and her daughter this week. they arrested tyler carter. they say he opened fire during an argument in wilmington. her daughter and another woman was hurt. fiphiladelphia's sister cit is in trouble after massive explosions killed several people. it happened at a container

sank. trapped in open water, he ditched his life jacket because he said it made it hard to swim and latched on to the buoy. dillen camped out for the night. >> i saw about four or five shooting stars that night and i prayed and wished on every single one i saw. >> reporter: nine hours past, time was running out, so he let go of the buoy and swam for it and that's when the coast guard spotted him. >> i started screaming from the top of my lungs and i started making as much splashing as possible. >> reporter: even still, carry says her son, dillen, is grounded. >> he says, mom i'm 19 years old and i said, well i'm a special police officer and he said, i'm going to be with you for a few days, i'm not leaving.

philadelphia down to wilmington and right around the upper 60s to near 70 degrees. tomorrow will be around 83 and then we shoot up to near 90 as we go into saturday, so that could be the start of our next heat wave and in case you forgot, the perseid meteor shower is right now until 2:00 in the morning. and this hasn't been observed for more than 2000 years. we're pretty much dry across the area. humidity is going to stay low. and even as we go into tomorrow afternoon, i think tomorrowed could be a little bit better than today, and friday, humidity still very comfortable but the temperatures are going to heat
