right now at 11:00, start counting the 90s. we may be at the beginning of a long heat wave. this is a long look outside of philadelphia where it's a warm night and more of them are coming. good saturday evening. i'm george spencer. not only will it be hot but the humidity is coming back in a big way. nbc 10 meteorologist michelle grossman is tracking the heat as it settles in to stay. >> it's settle to stay and it will stay for a while for most of the seven day. we're tracking 90s. we're at 91 degrees today. outside we're looking at partly cloudy skies.

a nice night. warm night. temperatures in the upper 70s. 77 philadelphia. still 80 northeast philadelphia. 74 in allentown. 74 in lancaster. 70 in millville. as we wake up tomorrow morning we're waking up to temperatures in the low 70s. 76 already been 8:00. by 10:00, 83. temperatures really jumping. by 3:00 we're looking at 92 degrees. another hot one tomorrow. we're tracking a string of 90s. also tracking our storms in the seven day. that's coming up. a man who was trying to cool off out doors tonight ended up dead. he was at a music festival when he decided to swim in the river. drew smith is live. this sparked a big rescue effort. >> reporter: we saw boats, divers and even a helicopter out searching the river behind the trees. as you said there was a music festival going on in this

contraarea. we're told this 50-year-old man was here for the festival with his friends. now police trying to figure out why he went in the water. it was a multilevel response from the air, on the ground and on the water. >> i saw the chaos and the trucks and everything. >> reporter: police say man went into the water to cool off. friends saw him but lost sight of him. emergency workers rushed in looking over their boats hoping to see something. >> it was like a lot of trucks coming in. >> reporter: after a 45-minute search, nbc 10 captured divers splashing into the water. they found the body and found cpr but it was too late. >> everyone stopped. everyone seemed in shock. >> reporter: friends of the victim cried and covered their eyes. >> it's very dangerous to swim here because of the currents. we do not recommend it at all. >> reporter: the music festival continued as emergency workers began to clear is scene. investigators could not say right now if alcohol played a

role in this. >> very upsetting especially for like a festival like this. >> nobody wakes up thinking this could be the last day i live. he was enjoying himself probably with friends and family. it's terrible. >> reporter: that police investigation is still going on right now. we asked the organizers of the festival if they had any comments but they said it would be inappropriate to talk about it since the investigation is still happening. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. a child is in the hospital tonight after being run down by a hit and run driver in northeast philadelphia. police say the 6-year-old girl was hit in the 6600 block of sylvester street. she was taken to the hospital in stable condition. police did find and arrest the driver of the car but have not released the driver's identity. five home will be demolished after this massive fire in trenton and we learned a woman

is fighting to survive after she was pulled from the flames by her father. she's at temple university and that's where randy is live with more. >> reporter: that victim is recovering with serious burns to much of her body after this massive fire ripped through a series of row homes in trenton late last night. the view from above threw sky force 10 shows the smoke rising. when scene from the ground the fire is perhaps more frightening. witnesses began recording on their cell phone seconds after hearing a loud boom. >> that called my attention. >> reporter: she lives across the street. she said flames quickly spread from house to house. >> it was smoke. it was fire everywhere. >> the windows and everything. >> reporter: a 21-year-old woman was stuck inside the burning structure. witnesses say she was pulled to safety by her father but not

before suffering burns to 80% of her body. >> she was screaming. she was yelling. like i told you, her skin was peeling off. >> reporter: officials say in total 13 people were displaced. their homes are destroyed. arson investigators are on scene but a cause hasn't been determined. >> once the investigation is complete, the houses will be demolished. >> reporter: for the city of trenton this was one of the largest and most intense fires in recent memory. >> it was big. it was quickly rolling up. it was like an inferno. >> reporter: leaving homes turn to ash and one victim fighting to survive. fire officials say the victim was initially taken to a hospital in trenton, but then rushed here to temple's burn unit for more specialized treatment. we have new video of an electrical fire in southwest philadelphia. you see crews working to contain

the flames. it happened at 58 and baltimore street. some nearby wires got caught up in a tree. that sparked a fire. no one was injured and the fire did not cause any power outages. it was a tough day for air travelers. take a look. about 20 cancellations and dozens of delays earlier today. some passengers say they will not be able to fly out tonight. >> we all got displaced and we're told to come downstairs and get your baggage and we were in line for nearly two hours. now we can't seem to find a flight out tonight. >> the faa says the computer problem was resolved at about 4:00 this afternoon. many of the airlines were forced

to cancel and reschedule their flights. talk about a big success. more than 17,000 pets across the country have new homes tonight thanks to nbc's clear the shelter campaign. >> i just rescued my new friend here. thank you clear the shelters. he's great. >> today people looking to adopt pets were able to save a bit of money with reduced or waived fees at more than two dozen local shelters. that included this one, the delaware spca in stanton new castle county. here is a break down. a total of 929 animals were adopted across our area today. in pennsylvania 519 dogs and cats have new homes. in new jersey, 367 pets were adopted and in delaware, the number was 43. >> charlie is feisty. >> a little feisty.

jim and sheena spent the day at the pennsylvania spca. they were not alone. look at that long line of people who were waiting to give pets a loving home. in the end this particular facility had the very most adopted pets in our area today with a total of 95 animals. special passes for the pope's visit are now on sale. the piece of paper you'll need if you want to cut down on your walking. busted at the hilton. what we're learning about a drug take down at a popular philadelphia hotel. the eagles are less than 14 hours from kicking off the preseason against the colts. we'll hear from both teams and chase utley continues to showcase his talent. his extends hitting streak.

driver from bucks county is also under investigation tonight. james campbell junior was killed after hitting the wall at williams grove speedway. that crash happened during last night's warm up laps. the rest of the races were cancelled after that accident. new details about a drug bust inside the hilton at penn's landing. four people were taken into custody after a gun and a large amount of cocaine were found inside a hotel room. the charges include manufacturing with intent to deliver. now to decision 2016. donald trump may have stolen the spotlight again today at the iowa state fair. the republican presidential candidate arrived in a helicopter clearly labeled with his name. he then led the media on a slow speed chase in a golf cart and

posed for some selfies. hillary clinton tried to get her message across today. her challenger bernie sanders spoke to a crowd of supporters saying the momentum, his campaign has is real. we reached a high of 91 degrees. that's the start of many 90s in our seven day. we're also tracking some showers too. we're looking at another heat wave once again. today 91. tomorrow 92. we're going to get more humid. not so bad this weekend. it wasn't so bad today in terms of humidity or tomorrow. it's monday we'll see the humidity levels creep up and especially on tuesday and wednesday. hot for the game tomorrow. not typical football weather. we're looking at temperatures in the low 90s. 77 in philadelphia.
