i'm chris cato. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley who said yesterday that it would be very humid and hot again today. here we are, bill. not too bad out there right now. >> the temperature isn't bad but you can feel the steaminess in the air. pottstown, millville in the low 70s. yesterday this time it was in the 60s. 74 in philadelphia. that's off a degree compared to yesterday. but still plenty warm at this hour when temperatures should be in the 60s and it's going to be a quick warmup with sunshine, 9:00, we'll be up from the 6:00 amt number, up to 78 degrees and upper 80s and climbing at lunch time with the southerly wind that will stay below 10 miles an hour. the neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back in ten minutes to show you how warm it will get where you live. right now, time for first alert traffic with katy zachry. >> good morning to everyone at home. as soon as my camera comes back i can show you 95 around

lawmakers in washington to investigate the investigation. he is asking the congressional committee on oversight and government reform to, one, require the department of justice to preserve any materials related to his case and, two, he wants the committee to at least review the work of the justice department as it relates to how they collected the evidence. in a letter to the committee chairman and ranking february, fattah writes this. he's accused of stealing taxpayer money, having a secret campaign loan and taking a bribe from a lobbyist. he's accusing federal investigators of violating grand jury secrecy laws in an effort to embarrass him. chaka fattah is due in court this afternoon. his spokesperson says the congressman will not have any comment until he's finished with that first court appearance.

live in center city, matt delucia, nbc 10 news.ñr congressman fattah is married to renee some chenault . the feds allege she took part in a scheme to fraudulently sell a car in order to pay closing costs on a vacation home. she's not charged and denies wrongdoing. renee is on leave from nbc 10. a shocking arrest to tell you about in north philadelphia. police say a 15-year-old boy is the person who abducted a 5-year-old girl from her home, assaulted herñiñrxdxd and left unconscious in a pile of brush. >> this is unbelievable. >> nbc 10 got that reaction from the girl's mother last night. she told is over the phone she's relieved that police made this arrest. they have not released the name of the 15-year-old. he's accuse of breaking into the girl's home, carrying her out of

the house, beating and sexually assaulting her. he's charged with a long list of crimes, including attempted murder and rape. the district attorney will decide whether to try him as an adult. 4:05 now. new from overnight, police say home surveillance video shows a shooting in philadelphia that left a man in critical condition this morning. . áñ the motive apears to be robbery. robber shot a man in the stomach on west hazard street and searched the pockets. someone shot a man in the face in the nicetown area of philadelphia. he's in stable condition now. police haven't made an arrest or commented on what may have led to the shooting. happening today, activist group from all over philadelphia will come together to march through a neighborhood plagued by violence. the 2015 peace tour involves 11 different groups who have the same goal, uniting communities

and coming up with solutions to violent crime. tonight at 6:00, the groups march through southwest philadelphia starting at the corner of 58th street and greenway avenue. citizens rallied in trenton last night, calling for justice in the case of a 14-year-old boy ]rwm the attorney general's office is leading the investigation. on august 7thç, a state troope and mercer county sheriff's officer responded to a report of shots fired in trenton. according to investigators, the teen ran from officers. witnesses say he reached for his waistband and the officers opened fire. police say they found a handgun on the street but the boy's family says it was not his. >> only reason it's not getting national attention is because he didn't die. it was a 14-year-old kid shot seven times by a cop. >> that teenager, hearns, was released from the hospital on friday but faces extensive

rehabilitation. happening today, a survivor of the mass shooting at virginia tech university is sharing her story. at washington township high school in gloucester county. it's part of that school's annual safety and security conference. christina anderson was shot three times when a gunman opened fire on virginia tech's campus in 2007. 32 people died. anderson will take the stage just after 11:00 this morning. the event there is free and open to the public. 4:07. school leaders in delaware county will call on state legislators to pass a budget before the school year starts. they're set to hold a news conference this morning in lansdowne to send that message. they want lawmakers to approve a budget that includes $400 million in education funding. meantime, pennsylvania social service agencies are asking lawmakers to stop the budget stalemate and provide stop gap aid. the president of the united way of pennsylvania says a number of agencies that provide food, shelter and other help to the

search crews in indonesia found the bodies of all 54 passengers on board that plane that crashed in a remote mountain area of that country. crews found the wreckage and the black box after struggling through the forest yesterday. in thailand, crews begin searching through debris outside

a shrine where 20 people were killed during a deadly bombing yesterday. that attack happened at a busy intersection, surrounded by five-star hotels and upscale shopping malls. police say it's too early to say who is behind the bombings. in china, rescue and recovery crews are still working at the scene of last week's massive kblaft that killed more than 100 people. authorities confirm there were several hundred tons of toxic sodium cyanide on the industrial side at the time of the explosions. right now, 70 people are still missing including 64 firefighters and 6 police officers. the irs data breach is worse than originally thought. the agency first told us in may about thieves hacking its website. the irs says the number of victims tops 334,000. that's three times the number they first reported. the agency said the hackers already knew the victim's soçcl security numbers, dates of birth and addresses. it said the thieves used that data to break through the irs website and get even more information about their victims.

nbc 10 is helping you prepare for the pope's visit to philadelphia next month. the city on monday opened its new business resource center. a hot line that helps business owners get information about how the pope's visit may impact their operations and their bottom line. one business has already decided to close its doors. the philadelphia zoo tells us it will shut down saturday and sunday during the pope's visit but it will be open on friday, the day before the pope comes to town. we wanted to take a closer look at exactly what the pope will see during his trip to philadelphia. nbc 10's vai sikahema gives us that tour. >> reporter: saint charles borromeo seminary is the beautiful property on the main line where pope francis will stay when in philadelphia. it is gated. you can expect round the clock security during the time the pope is here. >> in terms of all the popes, i think he's particularly focused on a lot 6 very important issues. i'm excited personally that he's

just in time for that historic visit in philadelphia, a new class of seminarians will arrive on campus to start what should be a memorable academic year to say the least. pope francis will visit the saint charles borromeo seminary and will actually be spending the night there overnight that weekend. 4:18 now. happening today, the developers of a new casino hotel in south philadelphia will unveil their master plan to the city planning commission. the live hotel and casino will be built on the side of the holiday inn. the project costs $400 million. it will feature 2,000 slot machines and 125 gaming tables. the hotel will also have 220 rooms, 6 restaurants and a rooftop music venue. live is expected to employ more than 1,200 workers and generate another 3,000 construction jobs. also today, the planning commission in the city will consider a new apartment building in old city. this is what an artist says it will look like. proposed apartments at 4th and arch streets.
