the ticketed area stretches for blocks around the parkway from the museum to 20th. until now, it's been assumed that anyone could show up on the parkway to get a decent look at the pope. >> this new information comes with 23 days remaining until the pope's arrival, it's information we first broke on the nbc10 app. doug shimell is live along the parkway for us. >> any idea how we can get our hands on these tickets? >> the archdiocese has handed these tickets out. if you don't have a ticket, this is as close as you're going to get. you mentioned 20th and the ben franklin parkway. your view is pretty much what you think it would be. the perception as you mentioned up until now is people could just show up. in this map that we obtained from the secret service, it shows that jagged red rectangle stretching from 20th and the

morning, he was there seeking congressional support for a nuclear deal with iran. and as he spoke, that support arrived. the maryland center became the 34th vote needed to keep the deal alive, the deal was signed by iran, the united states and five other world powers. it limits iran's nuclear program in exchange, iran gets hundreds of billions of dollars in relief from international sanctions. opponents are concerned they could enable iran to wreak havoc around the middle east. cydney long was there and joins us from independence mall now. >> secretary kerry says we have to have a deep understanding of the past in order to predict how this will all play out in the future. he painted a picture of just how equipped iran was two years ago of building not just one, but a dozen nuclear bombs in september of 2013.

a reversal of this negotiation would be detrimental to u.s. nations, to u.s. security along with other nations. kerry says we don't have to trust iran to partner in this agreement to freeze their capability. the deal is not about trust, it is about proof and inspections, and that the u.s. will not rule out military strikes if iran breaks this promise. he says to do nothing will take us back to that dangerous spot two years ago. >> let me be clear, no one can build a bomb from a stock pile of 300 kilograms of uranium enriched only to 3 hadn't 67%. it is just not possible. >> i don't think the iranian regime is being sincere and it will follow through on everything. i think it needs to be considered. >> now, a crowd of invited guests among them both graduate and undergraduate students,

still muggy, another round of fog overnight tonight. we'll be tracking the timing of your rain for friday, that leading into your labor day weekend forecast, we'll show you all that coming up. big time bounce back on wall street today. the dow jones finished the day up 293 points. a nice rebound from yesterday's 470 point hit. it was the worst start to september in 13 years. to this now, it turns out all six baltimore police officers charged in connection with freddie gray's death will be tried separately. >> a judge denied the state's motions to try the officers as a group. dozens of demonstrators took turns voicing their frustrations about the case. one person was arrested. all six defendants are charged with second degree assault, misconduct and reckless endangerment.

gray a 25-year-old black man died a week after sustaining injuries, following his arrest on april 12th, his death sparks riots and unrest in baltimore for days following his funeral. the trial for all six officers was set for october 13th. dates for the new trails have not yet been set. new information about two police officers accused of killing a man in trenton, the officers shot and killed eric mcneil on hobart avenue on august 15th. the new jersey attorney general's office released a statement that the use of force by the officers was justified. the officers pulled up to the home after a domestic violence report. the officers say mcneil was on the porch and began shooting at them. at one point investigators say mcneil was standing over one of the officers with a gun when the officers shot him. both were wounded by mcneil. they continue to recover. in about two hours, funeral services will begin for a south jersey middle schoolteacher

killed in a car crash. alison mcgillis worked at pemberton's middle school. she was hit by a car while jogging in southampton township last week. she was on route 206. after hitting mcginnis, the truck hit several trees and overturned. his passenger died at the scene. services for mcginnis are at vincent town united methodist church. police issue an arrest warrant for a coatesville man wanted for making flawed u lent deposits with stolen atm cards. he used a bank card and made several fraudulent deposits. she wasn't the only one, officers discovered several accounts in which they say jackson had committed similar

crimes totaling about $25,000 in losses. it's back to school for students in the chester up land school district. >> thank you for coming to our celebration today. a bell ringing ceremony was held outside toby farms. they're working without big pay because of financial problems there. families and community leaders gathered to thank them for their money crisis. chester upland is not receiving state funding because of the ongoing budget impasse in harrisburg. here's a back to school welcome to remember, students at philadelphia high school were cheered as they arrived, the school requires every student to work one day a week, it funds the cost of their education, and changes their outlook on life. >> the work experience changes their lives even on the very first day they go to work. they're working downtown at

tragedy at the jersey shore. a couple and their two children are dead after a house fire. it doesn't appear to be an accidents. it appears to be the case of a murder suicide. >> it started with a big family fight. it all unfolded in long branch last night. brian thompson has the latest. >> it was a family that by all accounts was happy and loving.

tuesday morning. lieutenant charles glinieciwz was shot and killed about an hour north of chicago. they had given up on the focus search near the spot where the officer's body was found. as wider search efforts continue. she faces fines and even jail time, still a county clerk in kentucky continues to defy a u.s. supreme court ruling. forcing her to issue same sex marriage licenses. rowan county clerk kim davis was back on the job this morning. once again davis refused to issue any marriage licenses. two other clerks have also said they will not issue licenses to same sex couples. davis is the only one who has been sued. >> we don't observe the same rights you do. you've been going your entire life -- would you do this to an interracial come? >> a man and a woman, no. >> she said she's a christian who has a sincere religious

washington. president obama is on an historic mission in alaska this week, where he's driving home the impact of climate change. the president visited a national park in southern alaska where he hiked up to view the vast but exceeding exit glacier. he said the reduction has accelerated each year due to climate change. moving to north america's tallest mountain, and it just got shorter, denali, formerly known as mt. mckinley. geologists say it's 10 feet less than the old measurement in 1953, the new elevation was from data collected by climbers in june. the growing heroin problem in berks county continues to claim lives, now an effort to save some overdose victims free of charge. heroin overdose kits are being offered free to the public. they contain the drug narcan.

we got a demo today. the group says anybody who wants a free kit must pass an online test, learning how to administer the drug. it's a nasal injection and takes about five minutes to kick in, helping overdose victims wake up. this year in berks county, overdoses are on the rise. >> the problem is not going to go away. if this prevents a person from dying, it's well worth the investment. >> so far this year, 20 people in the county have died from a suspected heroin overdose. students across the country are being welcomed back to school. but one student isn't. about 60 protesters rallied outside west hampton beach middle school to support aidan, he's been denied a spot in middle school this year. aidan has down syndrome, he graduated last year from a mainstream elementary school and his mom says continuing that path is best for his future. >> we're not the first family to

board walk returned to atlantic city today. they packed the beaches to watch one of the largest mid week air shows in the country. businesses say sales skyrocketed. we have new information tonight on a year long nbc news investigation into a medical implant designed to save lives. >> stephanie gosk has more on the device that's linked to a couple dozen deaths. >> i broke three ribs, i broke my femur. everything is broke. >> after a car accident in 2004, dotty was at high risk for blood clots. doctors implanted a blood clot filter called the recovery, made by medical device giant. it's a 1 1/2 inch metal wire trap placed in the largest vein in the body, four months after being released from the hospital, dotty suffered a debilitating headache and passed out.

after rounds of testing, doctors discovered a piece from her filter had broken off and pierced her heart. doctors saved her life by removing this sharp one inch piece of metal from her heart. about a quarter million blood clot filters are planted in patients each year, most without incident. 11 companies sell them in the u.s. her filter stood out early as a risky device, it's associated with at least 27 fatalities and 300 reported problems. in a statement to nbc news, all of its filters when used as instructed demonstrate significant benefits to patients. knowing how close she came to death, doaty frohlich considers herself lucky. >> sometimes when i tuck my son in, it's a longer hug with, i'm glad i'm here. >> that was nbc's stephanie gosk

the initial numbers, better than some expected, let's just say there's plenty of room for improvement. >> what would you do, list three things. >> those are the critical thinking type questions kids answered. no more multiple choice bubble test, this was tougher, on a computer. it took a long time to complete. >> it took roughly a month of school time away from actual learning, that was disappointing to me. >> the test raises the bar on teachers and students. the state says generally speaking, students did outperform the estimates. that said, a third of eighth graders were rated proficient.

a court battle to get gender reassignment surgery tonight a woman pleads her case in the fight against her own parents. we begin with a family fight. a transgender woman battled her case in court. a judge listened to the case, and 90 minutes ago, the judge made a decision. good evening, it is a victory for her tonight. her attorneys and her doctor are scrambling to get that judges order in writing. the surgery scheduled for yesterday here in bucks county, that's where things get messy. her parents wanting a delay. for the transgender community
