document. she was a friend, neighbor but also a nurse, whose job it is to help people. tonight, she's charged from stealing from an elderly neighbor who was on his deathbed. >> i don't think we'll ever be able to recover from the heart ache. >> reporter: jackie entrusted e melissa deal with her father's care. >> i thought she was a good person. >> disrespect for my grandfather. >> reporter: melissa was out for herself. she stole more than $88,000 from the life savings of james mooney, making herself a beneficiary days before the 79-year-old died of prostate cancer. >> he's on his deathbed, and she is literally taking money right from under him. >> reporter: an anonymous tipster sent a letter to the attorney's office in march 2014 that launched a criminal investigation. >> i don't know if we'll ever know who that person is.

the head. there are no arrests. if you want an up close look at pope francis on the ben franklin parkway, you better have a ticket. if you don't, your closest viewing spot will be five blocks away. that's what we've learned from this brand-new map from the secret service. let's take a closer look. this bright red area is reserved for people with tickets. it extends from the art museum, down the parkway to 20th street. the purple area is for people that don't have tickets. the bottom line, if you don't have a ticket, you're not getting anywhere near the stage for two big papal events on the parkway. no matter how early you show up. it's a story we broke on the nbc 10 app. a lot of activity there. >> reporter: preparations are well underway for this weekend's made in america festival, with about 50,000 attendees per day. that event amounts to just 5% of what they're expecting for the pope. today, we learned that this

entire area here will be reserved for ticketholders during the peapal visit. the non-ticketed area begins three blocks to city hall. with jumbotrons aglow, concert goers will get a show. pilgrims hoping to get a view from the pope from this spot three weeks from now will need a ticket. >> three weeks out, it's pretty frustrating. >> reporter: westchester native talked to us via face time about his disappointment with this new secret service map, showing a tickets only area for prime viewing. he's leading a group of 50 students from iowa to see the pope. they planned for an 18-hour ride, accommodations even septa passes, but this -- >> there's a chance we'll be so far removed from the main area that the pope is at, it's questionable whether it's worth it for us to make the pilgrimage.

>> reporter: i'm standing at 20th and the parkway, as close as you'll get without a ticket inside the fence. your view up towards the art museum steps would be something like this. >> i just walked from the museum, and it's quite a distance away. >> reporter: jumbotrons will be set up around the area, and organizers say a distant view shouldn't dissuade anyone from taking heart in history. the tickets will be handed out by hundreds of local parishes. >> we'll do it on a first come, first serve basis. >> reporter: he'll have 134 tickets to spread among the 1,000 families in his parish. visitors from afar will likely watch from afar. world meeting organizers say this is all really a balancing act, keeping what they call the vast majority of the parkway open to the public and, yet, ensuring that parishioners from the host region are accommodated. reporting live tonight along the parkway, george spencer, nbc 10

news. not enough information. that's what businesses say in a new papal business survey. the philadelphia's controller released today. only 68 of 250 surveys sent to hotels, shops and restaurants inside the francis festival grounds traffic box were returned. while many are optimistic about the visit, only 14% said the city provided enough details to allow their businesses to plan properly. today, the secret service also released a list of things you won't be allowed to bring if you're coming to see the pope. in a few minutes, nbc 10's keith jones will show you what those look like. as george showed, as the stage is almost set for the big event this weekend on the parkway, the made in america festival, here's a live look at the main stage in front of the art museum. gates open at noon saturday and sunday for the music festival. beyonce will be the headliner saturday, while the weekend will

tomorrow, we expect to stay in the mid to low 90s. three days in a row we expect to have temperatures ten degrees or more above what's considered normal, which is 83 degrees this time of the year. well above average for this time of the year, however, friday, our temperatures will be back down into the 80s. the heat wave will be breaking as the week comes to an end. that's be because of rain in the forecast. by friday, we'll be tracking showers. 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, patchy fog. noon, 87 degrees. hot and humihumid. the rain will move in for friday. your labor day weekend weather we'll talk about, as well as a shore cast if you're heading to the jersey shore or beaches. we'll have that coming up. the nuclear deal with iran now seems unstoppable. the president has locked down all the votes he needs for the controversial agreement to survive in the republican-controlled senate. the 34th senator agreed to support the deal today. secretary of state john kerry

came to philadelphia to defend the deal. he says this is not about trust, it's about proof and inspections. kerry says that the u.s. will not rule out military strikes if iran breaks its promise. he says, this is a way to move away from the very dangerous spot we were in two years ago. >> as soon as we start the implementation, inspectors will be able to track iran's uranium, as it is mined, milled, turned into gas and eventually into waste. >> israel is opposed to the deal, arguing its conditions would keep iran dangerously close to developing nuclear weapons while enriching a government that has funded anti-u.s. and anti-israel militants throughout the middle east. tonight, the wwe is distancing itself from jimmy superfly snuka after murder

chargers were against the great. the bio was taken down from their page. the company suspended his non-wrestling legends contract. yesterday, police revealed they charged the 72-year-old with third degree murder in the death of nancy. she died in 1983. investigators say he beat her inside a motel and left her to die. a judge clears the way for a transgender woman to undergo gender reassignment surgery. christine's parents tried to block the operation. they say she's mentally incompetent. the judge said she showed a clear understanding of the procedure. she has already been through 16 months of pre-operative preparation and received clearances from mental health professionals. >> i'm not surprised or anything. i know that this is right. i mean, it's just right. >> activists say the court's decision is a victory for transgender rights.

now to the decision 2016. vice president joe biden is making a series of public appearances, adding fuel to the rumors that he'll run for president. biden was in miami today, encouraging college students about their future while speculations swirled about his own. those hoping biden would hint at whether he might jump into the presidential race were left with this. >> those who aren't willing to risk failing never succeed. >> biden's supporters insist hillary clinton's stumbles over the private e-mails created an opening, and new interest including among first-time voters. he's run twice for president and never won a state. presidential candidate carly fiorina says cnn did the right thing in changing eligibility rules for its september 16th republican presidential debate. >> i earned my place on the debate stage. they recognized that there were so many polls before august

new at 11:00, the coast guard springs into action when two boats become disabled after the atlantic city air show. this is one of the boats. it stopped running and was drifting toward the jetty. crews put on tow ropes and

brought it to safety. a second boat took on water and the pumps weren't working. a former student arrested and accused of distributing nude photos of his classmates apparently bragged about it on his yearbook photo. the 18-year-old brandon tyler berlin created a website that contained nude photos of several current and former students at north penn high school in montgomery county. many were under age. authorities say he stored the photos in a drop box photo called, i probably had your p k pics. that phrase was his quote in the yearbook. he has since graduated. the results are in for students in delaware on a state-wide standardized test. the smarter, balanced assessment test was done last spring. it was a tougher test of critical thinking. the state warned the results may not be pretty in year one, and they weren't. just over half of third to eight graders and 11th graders were

proficient in english. 39% were rated proficient in math. get this, students outperformed the expectations. some parents say they wished the results came in sooner. >> taking so long to get the results. if my daughter has a problem or needs help, it's now six months, now she's in the seventh grade. now what? >> the test won't be tied to teacher evaluations for the first couple years. the goal is to improve each year. less than a month until the papal visit. now, we know what you won't be allowed to bring if you're going to see pope francis. as nbc 10 keith jones reports, this calls for careful packing. >> reporter: the best way to do this is to show you all the items you can't bring here on the parkway when the pope arrives on that weekend in september. we'll try not to burst your bubble. too late. you can't bring balloons, tents and absolutely no pets.
