who were not hurt. again, this is in the juniata section. a car hit a school bus from behind. the driver of that car took off. two students were on board the school bus. they are not hurt. it's only to be the most joyful experience ever. i would say to everyone come see our city. come see our pope. >> big changes revealed in the plan for the pope's visit. it comes after a backlash of anger over word yesterday that a live look at the pope will require a ticket. good evening. i'm jacqueline london. catholic leaders announced there will be 25,000 more free tickets available to the public to see the pope. that about-face comes after nbc 10 was first to report yesterday that you would need a ticket to get within five blocks of the parkway stage and that those free tickets were going only to

churches and social service groups. now new details were also released today about two papal parades. this is a mass of the parade saturday, september 26th. the pope travels from eakins oval around city hall and back to the parkway. the second is still being finalized. it will be sunday on the parkway before the papal mass. nbc 10's lauren mayk is live in center city. officials are trying to change the tone of the last two days. >> reporter: they are. they are releasing these new tickets but they are still not saying exactly how many tickets total are going to be out there. they are really just trying to focus on the experience. still, if you don't have a ticket, you will be back there behind that -- behind the barriers behind 20th street. we wanted to know what do you need to do if you don't have a ticket to get a good view. the long stretch from the art museum could be a sea of people as the pope travels along a new

parade route. >> especially for saturday, for the 26th, everybody who gathers on the ben franklin parkway will have an opportunity to see pope francis. >> reporter: but if you're not among the thousands with a ticket, you may have to search for a good view for the mass. we checked out several spots around the city. this is the corner of ben franklin parkway and 18th. you don't need a ticket to get in here but you would need to go through security and you are pretty far away. if you had to give somebody advice on where to stand, where to go to get a good view, where would you suggest? you won't see much from here except on a big screen. >> you ever been to a large event on the parkway, you realize they're tiny. it's like large stadium kind of seating. >> reporter: how about getting up higher? we checked out the view from callowhill. lucky residents from this apartment building could see the parade. on the ground, though, if you

don't have a ticket, you want to look for one of 40 jumbotron screens. >> folks are trying to figure out where they should go. what's your advice? >> plant your roots elsewhere and be a pedestrian. >> reporter: be mobile. >> be mobile. wear sneakers. >> reporter: some good advice. i have to remember that. these jumbotrons could really be your key to getting a good view here. there will be 40 of them. one will actually be right near where i am now on the parkway at 20th street. there will also be some back by city hall and as far away as independence hall. i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. preparing for the unknown. burlington, camden and gloucester counties will lean on atlantic county for help if needed during the pope's visit. emergency supplies such as food, water and medical kits are being stocked up. all of these supplies will be

packed into eight giant mobile units in coming weeks, ready to roll out in an emergency. >> we are doing mass care support so it would be things like shelf-stable meals, water, obviously we are working with our partners in red cross and salvation army in support of those operations. shelter kits, cots, blankets, wheelchairs. >> atlantic county says it's ready to help with any evacuations in the event of an emergency. stay up to the minute by tapping the nbc 10 news app. we have the newest maps, what you can bring, what you can't and all important ticketing details. today the department of homeland security assured the public it is prepared for the pope's arrival, saying the rails are safe. concerns were sparked by a recent train shooting in france that was stopped by three americans. the security experts also said we should all expect more security nationwide this long holiday weekend. operation safety will involve random searches by officers and dogs.

now new at 6:00. >> i'm lucky to be here. >> he survived the philadelphia amtrak derailment but still can't walk. tonight, this father of seven is sharing his story of recovery. the derailment on may tw12th killed eight people and injured more than 200 others. amtrak admitted the train was speeding when it jumped the tracks and admitted liability. the federal limit on liability payments is $200 million to be shared by all victims. nbc 10 delaware bureau reporter tim furlong was in lewes when senator tom carper heard one survivor's story. >> how you doing, pal? >> i'm here. >> that's good. >> that's what i'm told. >> reporter: when the senator got off amtrak train 188 in wilmington may 12th, matt morgan got on headed to new york city. he got in the first car and nodded off. he woke up in a hospital four days later. he survived the derailment but was badly hurt.

>> fractured ribs, broken shoulder, broken hip, broken vertebrae, shattered femur, broken knee. ton of lacerations all over the place. >> a gash with a skull fracture. >> reporter: matt used to leave sundays for his night job in new york. during the day he went south to philly to work for amtrak designing safety systems like the one that could have prevented this. legally he can't give too many opinions about the crash or the engineer. he now has an electric wheelchair, his house has a rehab room. he is told he will walk again soon. seeing the video of the crash, he is shocked to survive. >> unbelievable is the best word. you look at it like wow. >> reporter: you amazed you're still here? >> yeah. i'm lucky to be here. >> reporter: tim furlong, nbc 10 news. turning to sports. a big night. almost time for the eagles preseason finale. tim tebow giving the thumbs up. this is where the eagles will face the jets. we are less than an hour to

sports for you. how about now, let's get a sense of what's going on outside met life stadium. randy gyllenhaal standing by. randy? >> reporter: we have been talking to some fans that are very excited to see this battle of the third string quarterbacks. tebow of course used to be a jet back in 2012. they do have some experience with him here. we decided to head into enemy territory into the tailgate to see what fans think about each of the quarterbacks. >> j-e-t-s, jets, jets, jets! >> reporter: eagles fans were few and far between. we caught up with 10-year-old donovan proudly wearing philadelphia green. what's it like being an eagle fan in this parking lot with these jets fans around? >> little nervous. >> reporter: think you might get beat up? >> yeah. >> reporter: the fans get to watch matt barkley and tim tebow battle it out for the final spot. these kids like tebow who played for the jets in 2012. >> he's a very good quarterback. >> reporter: want to see him

area. well above normal for this time of year. average high is 82 degrees. since sunday, we have been in the 90s. mid 90s tuesday, wednesday, thursday, today, so that puts us about ten degrees or more above average over the past few days. tomorrow, finally a break. we do expect to be in the 80s. that will come along with some rain. take a look at the air mass back off to the west. all the way to the eastern seaboard, same air mass in place. temperatures in the 90s. bismarck, north dakota is at 100 degrees right now. yes, it is very hot outside, unseasonably hot. even for the lehigh valley, you are still around 90 degrees. 90 in reading. 92 in millville. 93 in wilmington. a very warm night and humid as we go through the evening. most of the area is dry. in the poconos we have one thunderstorm moving into northampton county. pretty heavy rain and lightning. we are seeing hail, possibly an inch and a half in diameter in

towamensing. we will take a look at the timing of tomorrow's rain and the weekend forecast coming up. beyonce, death tab for cutie and the weekend. those are just some of the big musical acts on stage this weekend at made in america on the parkway. a live look at the ben franklin parkway where preparations are under way. that concert is getting a fifth stage and is one block longer, adding another 10,000 concert goers, up from last year's 60,000. in the past four years, made in america says it's transformed labor day in philadelphia to a major national live event. it is also the last big event rehearsal before the pope's visit. >> we were all a little bit panicky. this is a big event. now with the pope coming up, made in america is an appetizer. the pope is the fois gras. >> law enforcement agencies will only say there might be new security wrinkles but won't confirm if made in america will be the testing ground.

skyforce 10 live over a deadly accident. a pedestrian was walking on street road near jacksonville road when they were hit. no cars going by. avoid that area if you can. now a teacher and student from the same school killed in two separate accidents will be remembered tonight in south jersey. 13-year-old jeniah castlebury was a student at helen a. fort middle school, the same school where alison mcgillis caught. the student died from the injuries sustained during an accident in early august. mcgillis was killed after being hit by a car. tonight's vigil is happening at an athletic field across from helen a. fort middle school in pemberton. philadelphia releases new numbers when it comes to your taxes. the city turned over nearly $900 million in tax revenue to the school district this year. the bulk of that money comes

from real estate taxes. the amount of money given to the schools is the same as last year but it's a 14% increase from five years ago. with less than a week before school begins, one south jersey teacher gets a giant surprise. megan was overwhelmed with emotion as she received a $513 gift card from walmart along with this back-to-school survival kit. a recent study found that is the amount teachers spend out of pocket to help their students succeed. inside that kit, classroom essentials and an ipad mini she will share with her classroom. they will love that. no vacancy sign is up at the jersey shore this holiday weekend. hotels and inns are full in many places we checked with ka. it feels more like july than september and businesses are loving it. nbc 10's jersey shore bureau

reporter drew smith live in ocean city. busy boardwalk. >> reporter: this is the calm before the rush but there are plenty of people out here enjoying the boardwalk tonight. we checked around. most rental homes and inns are booked up and concerns about this labor day falling later than usual are being wiped away by this great summer weather. the trek to the beach was well worth it at the jersey shore today. >> we have had splendid weather. >> reporter: vacationers are taking advantage of a good number of schools back in session before labor day for a more relaxing beach experience. >> it is less crowded and everything is less crowded which is nice. >> reporter: don't count on it staying that way. at this inn in ocean city there's no vacancy. >> we are booked up. we have been booked up. the weather this summer has been wonderful. we're having another heat wave in september here and it seems like the middle of july with this weather.

>> reporter: on the boardwalk it's time for businesses to get ready for another big arrival of visitors. >> everybody grabbing salt water taffy to take home. >> reporter: july and august were great this year. while it's quieter it's not time to pack things up. >> you can see a dip because kids are going back to school early but it's still nice to have that nice little punch in september. with your sales and stuff. >> reporter: an inn keeper told us a lot of people are making reservations for after labor day. >> people keep coming down. as long as the weather holds out we'll be doing great. >> reporter: another big benefit to be down here early, you will miss all the traffic sure to be out there tomorrow. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. we have temperatures in the 90s but are now tracking showers that will break us out of the heat into tomorrow. if you have your labor day plans

starting tomorrow, you may run into some rain. then the heat makes a return once we finally get a break from it. overall, your labor day weekend is looking pretty good. right now, we are looking at mostly cloudy skies. temperature, 94 degrees. so it is still pretty hot outside. especially areas north and west through the lehigh valley. still near 90, 90 in west chester, 93 still in wilmington. 92 millville. 90 in dover. cooler closer to the shore, 82 degrees in atlantic city with more of an onshore flow. most of the area is dry but we are still watching the one thunderstorm that is slowly sliding down from the poconos. now northampton county seeing heavy rain and lightning. bushkill seeing heavy rain. we could still see hail in this. close to an inch in diameter, just south of towamensing. that is moving into northampton county as well. moving very slowly to the south around ten miles an hour. for the rest of the evening, we will stay dry.

by 8:00 tomorrow morning, for the morning commute, warm and humid and we should be staying mostly dry until about noon to 1:00 p.m. that's when we could have showers move in. that will keep the temperatures in the 80s away from the heat wave continuing and through the afternoon hours, some of the showers could continue north and west into the weekend, the good news is we clear up in time for saturday. we could have clouds linger to the south but through the day saturday, high temperatures, more like mid to low 80s with much lower humidity. so starting your weekend, if you are heading farther south through carolina or virginia, temperatures mid 80s but lingering showers as well as ocean city, maryland, upper 70s with possibly some lingering showers saturday. mid 70s rehoboth beach and the farther north you go, ocean city, new jersey closer to 80 with more in the way of sunshine. if you are heading to the shore, the delaware beaches this weekend, saturday and sunday look good, sunny, temperatures around 80 and the labor day monday looks fantastic, too, right around 82 degrees. if you are heading to made in america, looks great for that, too, saturday and sunday.

today around the nfl. other big news coming off the field. patriots quarterback tom brady's suspension has been nullified. new video in to nbc 10. tonight, tom brady arriving at foxboro stadium ahead of the preseason finale, smiling because judge richard berman who presided over his case nullified his four-game suspension based not on what brady did or didn't do, but more on the lack of notice to brady and his legal team and on the nfl's denying access to investigative files. tom brady will be on the field against the steelers next thursday night here on nbc 10. the league released a statement saying they disagreed with the judge's decision and this afternoon, they officially appealed the ruling. now to the game on the field. eagles and jets play their preseason finale on nbc 10. john clark is at met life stadium. >> reporter: the only starter who will play is kiko alonso,
