day weekend. now, those of you who have seen the rain, wilmington, you are down to 79 degrees. it's still 88 degrees in philadelphia. mid to low 80s through the lehigh valley. allentown down to 80 degrees now. closer to the shore, very comfortable 81 for wildwood, 81 in atlantic city with a little more of an onshore wind. temperatures later this evening will be staying on the warm side. still a chance of a shower as we go into your friday evening. by 6:00 p.m., 83 degrees and by 8:00 tonight, temperatures in about the mid to upper 70s. going into the weekend starting tomorrow, we are looking at very nice changes. i will show you that forecast and the shorecast coming up. >> looking forward to that. happening right now, the final preparations for philadelphia's made in america festival. >> the two-day music extravaganza beginning tomorrow is already creating a lot of grid lock along the ben franklin parkway. a live look at the parkway, you can see the large stage is already set up. the area of 20th street and the parkway is just a sea of slow

moving vehicles. hard to get anywhere. the backups are blamed on continuing construction and setup for made in america. the two-day concert will attract upwards of 30 performers and stretch from the rocky steps to 21st street. promoters say -- >> it just kind of adds to it. i think people are friendly. if they haven't been there they send their friends here, parents are confident sending their kids here. >> city officials say there will be visible and clandestine security measures in place. they are using this event as a dry run for the papal visit in three weeks. our nbc 10 team coverage continues now at the jersey shore where thousands of people will spend their long weekend. >> nbc 10's drew smith is live in sea isle city where the fun has already started. i wish we were there. seriously. looks packed, though. >> reporter: yeah. not too bad right now. take a look. a lot of people still on the beach. even this late in the day. they are all enjoying themselves. when we started driving down here this morning, there was

>> reporter: anne is here from philadelphia. she says she got some good end of summer discounts on clothes for her granddaughter. >> from now on i'll come down this time of year. >> reporter: the calendar may say september but it certainly doesn't feel like it. >> beautiful weather. you can't complain. it's gorgeous. >> reporter: all the jersey shore sights and the boardwalks are great. people are telling us you can't beat being out by the water, out on the sand. if this weather keeps up it will be a great labor day weekend. little windy right now but everybody is enjoying it. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. let's take a look outside now. route 1 in rehoboth beach in delaware. if you are heading out, gas prices are at a ten-year low according to aaa. we searched the gas buddy website. in new jersey, it's about $1.89 in medford. in delaware the low was $2.17. in north philadelphia, we found

out just what it's going to take to make all of this happen smoothly. ticket leap is based here in philadelphia. that company came in to help septa after some big trouble launching the system to sell the septa passes because of the demand for these limited number of passes, they built a lottery system to avoid a rush that could overload the system. they're not working on the process for handing out the tickets but tell me the same rules apply. >> biggest thing we learned from our experience with this is that you can't tell everyone to show up at one place at one website at one time and say now's the time to buy your ticket. it's just too dangerous. it's a recipe for a lot of trouble. >> reporter: the mass on sunday, these tickets will get you in that red area on this map. so far we have been told they will be on a first come, first serve basis, available online next week.

from skyforce 10. neighbors tell us police went door to door at 5:00 a.m. warning them the street had started kai started caving in. about 50 houses were affected by the water main break. neighbors showed us a newly sealed patch they say is from another break a few weeks ago. >> it's been one thing after the other lately. >> really tough when you don't have water. you have to run out, get a shower somewhere, get a bath somewhere. >> most of the damage happened to sidewalks and driveways. a few of those summer improvement projects just washed away. a new jersey father murdered his girlfriend and their two young children before setting their house on fire and killing himself. rescuers were originally called to the long branch house for a fire tuesday night. that's when they discovered the four dead bodies including two boys, ages 7 and 4. police say 35-year-old linden beharry shot them in a second floor bedroom before killing himself.

two whistle blowers filed a lawsuit against the coatesville school district claiming unfair treatment. the pair who worked for the school complained about racist text messages they discovered between the superintendent and former athletic director. the lawsuit claims that after the employees reported that the two used school-issued phones to send racist and sexist text messages, they were stripped of their job duties. they say they were also denied raises or promotions and became the subject of harassment. the two want reimbursement for lost wages and money for pain and suffering. the two both resigned last year and now face charges stemming from a grand jury investigation. federal investigators will delve deeper into what caused a prominent philadelphian to die in a plane crash. the ntsb will meet next week to determine why the jet carrying the philadelphia inquirer co-owner louis katz and six others overran the run way. the gulfstream crashed into a

ravine, bursting into flames. it happened last year as the plane left bedford, mastheading to atlantic city. a top democrat dealt president obamas proposed nuclear deal with iran a blow today. senator ben cardin of maryland announced he opposes the deal in an op-ed in the "washington post." senator cardin is not only the top democrat on the foreign relations committee but also the top ranking jewish democrat. a gop disapproval resolution is set to come to a vote in the senate next week. right now, president obama has enough support from democrats to block it. just yesterday, iran's supreme leader said there will be no deal if world leaders insist on suspending instead of lifting sanctions. the ayatollah has the final say on all important matters in the islamic republic. he also said the country's parliament should be involved in deciding whether to approve the deal. now to decision 2016.

vice president joe biden gives his most candid remarks yet about whether he would enter the race. the vice president is gaining more support as he mulls a run for the white house. today his draft biden super pac lined up two more staffers. last night during a speech in an atlanta synagogue, mr. biden was asked if he had made a decision about pursuing the presidency for a third time. the vice president said his honest answer is he just doesn't know yet. >> the most relevant factor in my decision is whether my family and i have the emotional energy to run. i- >> it's been barely three months since the death of his son, beau. hillary clinton has a message for the american people. she says she's sorry that her e-mail issues are confusing. clinton agreed to a rare national interview with nbc's andrea mitchell.

>> first of all, are you sorry? do you want to apologize to the mes american people for the choice you made? >> it wasn't the best choice. i have said that. i will continue to say that, as i have also said many times it was allowed and it was fully above board. >> in the interview, hillary clinton also says she takes responsibility for the decision to use the private e-mail server and is confident americans will trust she's fighting for their best interests. a county clerk in kentucky who has refused to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples is now behind bars and her husband says the fight quote, ain't over. kim davis was jailed yesterday on charges of contempt. she maintains issuing the licenses to same sex couples is against her religious beliefs. her attorney says davis would do so as long as her name and title weren't on them. this morning, kim's husband joe talked to reporters outside the courthouse saying his wife is prepared to stay in jail as long as it takes.

>> we might as well be over in iran or something because we have no religious freedom no more. if we the people don't take it back, we're in trouble. >> judge david bunning said she would be released once she agrees to comply with his order and issue the marriage licenses. republican presidential candidate mike huckabee throwing his support behind davis. huckabee said he will meet with the jailed kentucky clerk today and is not just stopping there. the former arkansas governor said he also plans to host a rally next tuesday in support of davis. with davis behind bars, her deputies are stepping in. they agreed to issue marriage licenses starting today. william smith junior and jim yates became the first same sex couple to receive their paperwork today. it was their sixth attempt to do so. mountain bikers, listen up. there's a recall to warn you about. about 23,000 cannondale mountain

bikes are being recalled. if the assembly fails it poses a risk of injury. the recall involves select bikes from model years 2011 through 2015. consumers are urged to head to the nearest authorized dealer for a free repair. kraft heinz is expanding its recall. 36,000 cases were recalled in july. a thin strip of packaging fill could stick to the slice creating a choking hazard. the recall covers one, three and four pound kraft singles american and white american cheese product with best used by dates ranging from december 12 through march 2. breaking eagles news now. the eagles have traded quarterback matt barkley to the arizona cardinals for a draft pick. barkley was competing with tim tebow for the third quarterback spot. this doesn't mean tebow will make the team but it's a clear sign he won that battle with barkley last night. the eagles made a bunch of cuts

but they still have more to go before tomorrow's deadline. barkley now traded to the arizona cardinals. the future of the camden river sharks is up in the air. let's take a look at campbell field where they play. nbc 10 has confirmed the camden county improvement authority hasn't reached a deal to renew the river sharks' lease. it's now negotiating with other ball clubs. there is also talk now about the river sharks moving to connecticut. the team's general manager says the club wants to stay in camden. the river sharks' last home game is september 13th. their season ends september 20th. it costs a big chunk of change, more than $20 million. now we are getting a look at the results. the street has reopened in the section between elm street and johnson highway is back to having two-way traffic. penndot officials cut the ribbon this morning to open the improved road.

officials tell us workers finished the project a year ahead of schedule. workers added new sidewalks and street lights, 16 new trees will be planted this fall. just in time for the holiday weekend, the historic cape henolopin fishing pier opens in ten minutes. the 70-year-old pier closed after engineers discovered structural problems with the pilings. the tackle shop is still closed. fishermen are reminded to bring their own supplies. a community kicked off an aggressive mission to prevent dui related deaths today called evesham saving lives. it's the first of its kind nationwide. it's a partnership with police. mothers against drunk driving, sober sam, and all 18 restaurants in the township with liquor licenses. the township has rolled out free trolley service and a new app. the trolleys will pick up and drop off patrons. while the app lets restaurants and patrons know when the next trolley is due to arrive. a local man gets the chance

of a lifetime. >> today he was able to thank the people who kept him alive after a sudden heart attack. three people jumped to the aid after he collapsed from a heart attack at philadelphia international airport. two tsa employees and one member of the air force started cpr and re-started his heart with a portable defibrillator. today the three were given the heart saver hero award by the american heart association. he says he's honored to meet the trio to thank them for the first time. >> it's not every day that you get to come to an event and celebrate not dying. i'm very blessed to be able to do that. >> mayor nutter praised the airport for their decision to place portable defibrillators throughout the building. the force of global commerce is strong today. >> stores around the world opening their doors for what has been dubbed now force friday to sell new "star wars" merchandise. the 18-hour global release comes months before the seventh movie in the franchise. "the force awakens" hits

theaters. analysts expect the line of movie memo beribilia to bring i record $5 billion. "star wars" merchandise has been a money maker, bringing in some $20 billion in the last 40 years. well, some of us are looking at showers and storms to start off your labor day weekend but much of the area is on the dry side. we still have isolated thunderstorms in the forecast for the evening hours but after all this, we will see some really nice changes. today it's still humid, especially if you already saw the rain, but the humidity will be breaking as we start off the weekend. and labor day weather of course looks fantastic. i will show you the forecast in just a minute. right now, kind of a hazy look out at philadelphia's center city now. 88 degrees in philadelphia. feels more like 92 when you factor in the humidity and believe it or not, we did hit 93 degrees today.

so far, that matches a record high for today. it's 80 in allentown with the rain that's moved in. 84 west chester. 79 in wilmington with rain that's moved through there. 83, millville. 84 in dover. 81 degrees in atlantic city. so we did heat up very quickly today but now temperatures are starting to drop, especially with the rain now moving in. not for everybody, though. the shore is dry, so are the delaware beaches. we expect them to stay that way. chester county seeing a few heavy showers. these are pretty isolated in nature so just to the east or west of east marlboro and a lot of these will be sliding mostly down to the south. parts of berks county near maiden creek in reading seeing isolated heavy showers. near allentown, small but heavy showers around this evening. we expect a few more as we go through the evening hours. but closer to about 8:00, 9:00, here's future weather. a lot of this starts to really come to an end. it's not going to be for everyone this evening but we will see even more clearing as we go into saturday.

take a look at tomorrow morning, 9:00 a.m., we can have clouds lingering along the shore, especially in areas of delaware closer to sussex county. through saturday afternoon we are looking at really nice conditions. big area of high pressure moves in from the north. that's going to keep us dry and across the weekend, we are looking at really nice beach weather. we will start with saturday for beaches farther to the south, depending how far you're going. virginia beach, nags head, north carolina, looking at lingering clouds and showers around. closer to ocean city, maryland, temperatures closer to 80 degrees with possibly lingering clouds but the farther north you get, ocean city, wildwood, close to 80 degrees. we'll see plenty of sunshine. rehoboth beach, 77. through the weekend, we do have a moderate risk of rip current so remember that if you are heading to any of the beaches. that could be pretty dangerous. as far as the uv index forecast is concerned across the weekend, saturday, sunday, monday, we are looking at a six to eight skin damage at about 15 to 30 minutes so you want the sun block as we go through labor day weekend if

you will be outside. tonight, early isolated showers possible. mostly cloudy. these will be ending closer to about 8:00, 9:00 this evening. 68 for the low in philadelphia, 61 areas north and west. tomorrow, not as hot. we will be down into the mid 80s. humidity will be a lot lower than what we have seen this week so really comfortable, especially the morning hours. when you wake up sunday morning, many areas will be in about the mid to upper 50s so feeling quite nice compared to this week. and we keep the sunshine around until labor day monday. high temperatures, though, back around 90. not sure you heard about this. a one direction band member left philadelphia with a parting gift he probably didn't expect. >> the girls aren't too happy about it. a big bump on the head. new video shows harry styles getting hit in the head during his concert where? right here in philly. howteenagedheartthrob and his mom responded.

pope-bot philly, a robot inspired by pope francis. the religious robot rolled through the halls of st. christopher's hospital for children. pope-pot passed out hand sanitizer before taking a look at a new tower being built at the hospital. the staff says they feel blessed to meet the mechanical pontiff. pope-bot was created by a local radio station after hitch-bot was destroyed in philadelphia in early august. of course, the new robot was inspired by the pope's upcoming visit to our area. just like hitch-bot, pope-bot is using the kindness of strangers to get around but there's a

difference. there's a weekly prize for someone who gives the robot a lift. take a look at this. the nbc 10 countdown clock shows there are just 21 days, 17 hours, four minutes, almost five minutes until -- four minutes, really, until pope francis arrives in philadelphia. one local woman is counting down to the september 26 weekend for a very different reason. >> she's getting married. numbers are important to ann ha and her family. she chose her wedding date of september 27th well before anyone knew the pope would be visiting then. since then rgs the bucks county reception venue has offered her the following weekend but she's declined. to further complicate things, she is having a two-part ceremony, one in philadelphia, the other in bucks county. guests have to deal with detours and closures on major routes. already two dozen friends and family members canceled. >> i had people rsvp and then had to take it back so it has

been heartbreaking. it's difficult but it is what it is. >> she survived a tough fight with cancer last year and says after waging that battle, planning a wedding around the pope doesn't seem so tough. it really puts everything in perspective. we now know who was operating the drone that landed in the stands at the u.s. open. next, the school teacher who police say is to blame and what happened when the drone crash landed inside the stadium. plus, what one direction's harry styles had to say to fans after he was hit by a flying can at his philly concert. then coming up on "nbc 10 news at 5:00" off-limits. the reason why parks won't be welcoming a single visitor this holiday weekend. ♪

the labor day holiday weekend is here. the beach in cape may is packed with people who got their vacation started just a little earlier than us. center city philadelphia meanwhile, many roads are shut down ahead of this weekend's made in america music festival. this is a live look at the giant stage on the ben franklin parkway. of course a lot of people want to know what the weather will be like. >> first alert meteorologist sheena parveen is tracking a little rain but a lot of sunshine. >> that's right. and a lot of very comfortable weather into the labor day weekend. i have the made in america forecast coming up in just about ten minutes. locally on radar, we are seeing just isolated showers. mostly in chester county. here's one heavy shower but it's pretty small over west marlboro. you are seeing rain in this area, very light rain near east notingham and near reading, light to moderate rain around 176. also around the allentown area,

we still have one heavy shower across 78 here and 476. pretty much most of the rain is around the area now. other than that, lot of cloud cover through south jersey extending to the beaches in atlantic city and down towards parts of cape may. kind of a hazy look out at cape may. there is cloud cover in the area but either way, a nice onshore breeze is helping keep temperatures a little bit lower, right around the low 80s. in sussex county, delaware, you're dry but you are seeing cloud cover there as well. temperatures across the area have been hot today but now we are finally starting to see them lower. same air mass still in place, 90s all the way back off to the west. locally, it will stay warm as we go into your friday evening. right now it's 82 in allentown, rain-cooled air there. still 79 in wilmington where we saw some rain cooling temperatures down. 83 millville. 81 atlantic city. still in the upper 80s in philadelphia. coming up, we take a closer look at the shorecast for the weekend and that made in america forecast, too, straight ahead.

before you get the weekend started, download the nbc 10 news app. find weekend events and get the first alert forecast on your smart phone or tablet. a pregnant woman was shot in the leg while sitting outside in the 4100 block of paul street. the mom-to-be is in stable condition but a man she was with was shot in the back and is in critical condition. police tell us two men walked up to the pair and opened fire. several other houses were hit but no one else is injured here. police nab two gloucester township car vandals. they are charged with shattering the windshields and side windows of cars in several different neighborhoods. look at the mess they left behind. police tell us one of the suspects damaged his ex-girlfriend's car. he's charged with criminal mischief. the other person is charged with conspiracy. a st. louis county neighborhood is searching for answers after police say an 11-year-old shot and killed a teenaged intruder. officials say the boy and his

4-year-old sister were home alone when a 16-year-old and another suspect attempted to force their way in. police determined that once inside, the 11-year-old fatally shot the teenager in the head. the second suspect ran when the shots were fired and was later detained. police say this is an all too common occurrence. >> a 3-year-old, same thing happened in st. louis city, i believe, last week. now we are talking about an 11-year-old. it doesn't matter the age. children have access to guns all too often. >> police believe the mother of the shooter bought gun after someone had tried to break into her house before. police say they arrested a new york city teacher after he crashed a drone at the u.s. open last night. daniel verly faces reckless endangerment and other charges. the drone flew over louis armstrong stadium and crashed into an empty section of seats. it caused a scare for those inside. >> it seemed as if that fell from somewhere. a bit of a distraction.

>> one of the tennis players there said she thought it might have been a bomb. police, fire and security rushed on the scene, delaying the match. fortunately, no one was hurt. billboards are meant to get your attention and that's exactly what's happening with a new nationwide campaign focusing on the islamic faith. the billboards like this one in portland, oregon are popping up across the country including here in pennsylvania. muslim backers behind the campaign say it's not about attracting people to their faith but instead, it's an effort to change negative perceptions of what islam is all about. new video has surfaced of a teenaged heartthrob under attack in philadelphia. >> one direction star harry styles finding out first-hand when a red bull to the face feels like. that's a video of the incident from tuesday night at the linc. you can see him walking the stage when he gets pelted in the

check this out. you're looking at what's called a dust devil. this video shot in the desert during the burning man music festival, you can see them. although they look like a tornado, it's nowhere close to the intensity of one. you can even see people walking right through it. the texas hospital that treated the first person diagnosed with ebola in the u.s. was not prepared for a patient with the deadly virus. according to an independent review, there was a breakdown in communication at the dallas hospital and the cdc failed to provide staff with protective equipment. thomas eric duncan went to the hospital last year after complaining of a headache and nausea. he had a fever of 103. the report shows that staff misdiagnosed him and sent him home. two nurses contracted the virus after treating duncan. they survived. the signs outside drugstores and supermarkets advertising flu shots have dotted our area for

weeks now. some are wondering is it too soon to roll up their sleeves? turns out it's not. researchers say the vaccine is effective about six months, about how long the flu season lasts. after that there's a sharp decline in protection. doctors recommend getting the flu shot in early fall. they say that can lower your risk of a doctor's visit by up to 70%. just in time for labor dashday, a new study suggests that stress on the job may be as harmful to your health as smoking. a review of more than 200 studies found more high job demands increase the risk of having a diagnosed illness by 35%. working long hours raise the chance of early death by nearly 20%. the most common source of stress was worry about losing a job. experts recommend keeping a work stress journal and setting limits with your boss. school safety is on a lot of parents' minds as students head back to class. >> some are concerned about an invisible threat. we will tell you about the

tebow. we will send out news alerts on the nbc 10 news app. nbc 10 is your official philadelphia eagles station. the nfl on nbc takes a back seat for one more week while the boys of nascar rev it up under the lights sunday night. the sprint cup will be in darlington, south carolina. nbc's coverage will throw back to the 1970s with retro graphics, classic paint schemes and legendary broadcasters as the famous race returns to labor day weekend. coverage begins at 7:00 eastern here on nbc 10. well, kind of a warm, humid start to your labor day weekend if your weekend is starting with today. we do still have isolated showers around. they are kind of raining themselves out at this point and certainly not everyone's seeing them. humidity is still here but by tomorrow, it leaves so we will see a nice break from the humidity and eventually it comes back next week.

your labor day weekend weather looks really good, especially if you're at the shore. here's a look at cape may. a lot of people already at the shore and i'm sure a lot of people heading to the shore as we speak. temperature in cape may, 81 degrees with an onshore wind, east-northeast wind now at 14 miles an hour, gusting closer to 22. so it is windy along the shore and it will be breezy into tomorrow. feels more like 85 degrees with the humidity. with this wind in place, an onshore wind, if you are heading to the shore, be cautious of the rip currents. looking at a moderate risk across the weekend. about the mid to low 80s through the lehigh valley, 88 degrees in philadelphia, 79 in glassboro, some rain-cooled air as well as wilmington, 83 millville, 84 degrees in dover. we did actually hit 93 in philadelphia today. that matched a record high but the rain eventually moved in, just not early enough to lower those temperatures. we have a few isolated showers around. chester county still seeing a few sprinkles but a lot of this rain is kind of weakening.

same thing up into lehigh county near allentown, right across 78. this one small but heavy shower is smaller than it was earlier so we are seeing a lot of these kind of raining themselves out. big area of high pressure up to our north is going to move down to the south right over us as we go into the weekend. it's really going to set us up with a nice weather pattern over the next few days. here's future weather. any showers around now should really be cleared out by about 8:00 p.m. tonight. then tomorrow, saturday, sunshine builds in, humidity will be lower. you will notice that. i will be very comfortable tomorrow, especially as we go overnight into sunday morning. really comfortable, some areas will be waking up with temperatures in the 50s. this particular model tries to show some clouds moving onshore for sunday. we will be watching that but either way, we do expect mostly dry, less humidity, lot of sunshine even as we go into labor day monday. that forecast looking fantastic, too. if you're going to made in america, saturday and sunday looking great, mostly sunny in the philadelphia area.

by 2:00 p.m. saturday, around 83 degrees. by 2:00 p.m. sunday, around 87 degrees. for beyonce saturday night, around 10:30, temperatures will be in the mid 70s. just about mostly clear skies. your extended shore forecast for saturday, looking at temperatures around 80 degrees and breezy. sunday, same thing, around 80 degrees as well. monday, about the low 80s. again, that moderate risk for rip currents. tonight, early isolated showers, mostly cloudy. 68 for the low in philadelphia. tomorrow, much less humid, not as hot either. temperatures will be in about the mid to low 80s tomorrow. by sunday morning, some of you will be in the 50s. morning lows around philadelphia mid 60s, 90s return on monday. to staggering numbers now. more than 10,000 people are poisoned by carbon monoxide each year. schools in 45 states nationwide aren't even required to have detectors. that includes schools in pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. the safety group safe kids worldwide is advocating for carbon monoxide detectors in

check out this video. an elderly man's car erupted into flames at a south jersey diner but thanks to a waitress's quick thinking the story has a happy ending. that man was back at the cape may county restaurant today following yesterday's scary experience. >> nbc 10 went down to bridgeton to talk with him. south jersey bureau reporter cydney long has the story. >> reporter: it's a fire that had restaurant patrons on the edge of their seats taking this cell phone video. it was 85-year-old charlie flowers behind the wheel. >> i didn't know what but i knew something was wrong. >> reporter: he was just going to have lunch thursday. >> i could see steam coming from under the hood. >> reporter: and says he could smell the smoke. >> i saw it. didn't know what was all about. they said you better get out of there. they helped me out. >> reporter: it was the waitress that got to charlie. from the window, she said she

preparations are under way along the ben franklin parkway. good evening. i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm keith jones. the long holiday weekend is here. we've got you covered. we have live team coverage with nbc 10's jesse gary on the gear-up for this weekend's made in america music festival. first we begin with first alert meteorologist sheena parveen. you are tracking a chance of showers, right? >> yeah, that's right. we still have a few around but they're not as big or heavy as they were earlier this afternoon. but we are still seeing quite a bit of cloud cover along the shore and the delaware beaches. chester county, you have heavy showers around earlier, now you're really just left with the thicker cloud cover. allentown area, your showers are clearing out, just light rain and that's really about it. i think this is going to be it for the rest of the evening. at least for most of the area. closer look along the shore from atlantic city to cape may, you can see cloud cover around here. i think tomorrow will be a much better day as far as those conditions are concerned. live look at cape may, beautiful
