work. this party is going to be rocking out on the ben franklin parkway until tonight. nbc 10 news. >> for many, labor day weekend means a trip down the shore and huge crowds at the beaches once again today. it's a rough surf that kept life guards busy. many life guards have already left for school. labor day weekend is in full swing as beachgoers enjoy the sun and the waves during summer's last hoorah. >> this is september. it's an embarrassment of riches, of weather, the water is warm. it's a great time to be here. >> michael is familiar with protecting swimmers here. today's ocean conditions would mean extra trips into the waves. >> you can see the water is moving here. >> he has been a life guard for many years beginning with 1990,

but with a full-time job and family, he hung up his whistle until he heard about the reserve life guard opportunity. >> i thought wow, this is real. and i wonder if i still have it. i wonder if i'm going to be able to do this. >> the program relies on former life guards to fill in as some younger life guards head back-to-school right around labor day. >> it's fun to get out here. >> wildwood doesn't ease up the swimming and running requirements. they have to pass the same tests. >> the reserves are just as good if not better. they have the experience which is huge. >> the reserves launched as a pilot program but wildwood says it's here to stay. >> we are going to continue it. we can't see any downside to it. the guys love it. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. >> now developing story in

delaware county. police need help finding this woman. 88-year-old lillian margolis is diabetic and police say she could be confused. she was last seen leaving a relative's home to drive to her senior living home. police are trying to find her and investigators are updating us right now about her search. she was hit by a police wagon and investigators are still trying to figure out the circumstances of the accident. a man who jumped in a creek to avoid police is behind bars tonight. only nbc 10 was behind the scenes this morning as a group of officers led the man away from the creek in handcuffs. the man was spotted driving

erratically in philadelphia. he jumped into the creek to avoid being stopped by officers but he was caught. >> investigators are trying to figure out what caused a house fire overnight. that fire started just before 3:30 on 76th avenue. crews had it under control about 45 minutes later. no one was hurt. >> a new schedule is now in effect for patco riders this is a live look where a track rehabilitation project is now entering its final stages. revised schedules from thursday midday through sunday night. that will last through the end of october. but here's the good news for commuters. patco will return to a full normal schedule in the morning between monday and thursday. today lots of local boys got a fresh haircut free of charge just in time for back-to-school. the annual barber 2 care event

you have heard lost dog stories before but probably not like this one. meet jade, an australian shepherd who was lost for 44 days in yellowstone national park. her owners were in a car accident. they were hurt and jade ran off. the colorado couple thought they would never see her again. they went back to the park over and over again searching for her. this week their hard work paid off. >> a minute or two later, i saw a black head pop over the edge about 100 yards away. i called her and she came bounding to me.

>> i saw jade come running in the front door and i lost it. >> she is self-sufficient. >> jade lost a little weight but overall looks great. and take a look at these current temperatures, 86 degrees. humidity is low. we are going to see another nice day as we head into your labor day holiday. i will go into all the details in my full forecast.

>> tensions were high today as thousands of refugees waited to be transported to athens. migrants and refugees are mostly from syria, iraq and afghanistan. some afghans have been complaining that syrians are given priority. it is complained that they are keeping away tourists and hurting the economy.

and pope francis is responding to the refugee crisis asking catholics throughout europe to shelter refugees in their homes. the vatican itself is taking in two families. he called on families across europe to do the same. this labor day weekend marks the unofficial fall kick off of a presidential campaign that is going strong. a new poll shows surprising strength for a couple of candidates. >> hillary clinton was working even if her voice was not. >> you cannot underestimate how important it is that we have a democrat in the white house come january 2017. >> but will she be that democrat? the latest nbc news poll shows caution signs ahead on the campaign trail.

she's losing ground to bernie sandies in iowa. he's now beating her by 9 points in new hampshire. >> our political infrastructure is having a hard time keeping up. >> he is an interesting candidate. i have a lot of friends who are very passionate about him. >> hillary clinton is losing support to vice president joe biden who hasn't decided whether or not he will run. >> this poll is also troubling news for scott walker in iowa and new hampshire. brian moore, nbc news, washington. >> now your nbc 10 first alert

weather. >> we have seen temperatures stay in the 80s. but now tracking another round. so i will show you that in the seven-day. dry conditions expected tomorrow. 97 gu ever degrees. it is very comfortable out. it's a warm day at 84 degrees. temperatures at the atlantic city airport at 79 rjts what we saw yesterday, both days are really present and enjoyable.

we don't have anything to worry about or weather disturbances. you will notice a big ridge of high pressure. you don't notice any rainfall for the entire northeast. staying nice and dry heading into the rest of tonight and tomorrow. even as we head into tuesday. we will see a little uptick in our humidity. more moisture is going to come up. heading into tuesday we will see the humidity increasing. by wednesday we will track a chance of widespread light rain. organized storms we expect to move in as we get closer to thursday. a closer look if we plan on heading down to the storms tomorrow. lots of sunshine. sunny day on top. a little warmer at 84 degrees. if you plan on going to atlantic city, 84 degrees as well.

an update now on our developing story. 88-year-old lillian margolis has been found. she was driving on a flat tire and police recognized her as missing. margolis is okay. some cool jazz on a hot afternoon in north philadelphia. the jazz tribute and festival brought together music lovers young and old. it is a chance to watch some performances and family friendly acts honoring jazz influence. and thaes our news for now. i'm denise. we will see you back here tonight at 11:00. nightly news is next.
