>> reporter: she is very, very, very excited. the tickets today were just for the event here at independence mall. the other tickets, the ones for the festival of families on saturday and the mass on sunday, those will become available online tomorrow. we are still working to find out just when you will need to log on. you will probably need to be fast. live at independence mall, i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. >> love her excitement. thank you. just as fast as the tickets sold out at noontime, some of the lucky ones already tried to cash in. minutes later, we found several people posting their tickets on ebay. en and craigslist for as low as $100 and as high as $1,000. mayor nutter not pleased to see people trying to make money on the ticket giveaway. >> at least the neighborhood where i grew up, that's trifling. just trifling. >> now how are you going to get to independence haul?

tod today septa doubled the number of stations it will open during the pope's visit. keith jones is here with that plan. >> reporter: -- they will also offer a new pass for $10, you can ride the rails for three days. you are required to show a photo id to buy the pass. it's only good for the broad street and frankford line. you will need other tickets for the regional rail. septa says all the stations now open will take people both inbound and outbound. with so much closed that weekend, public transportation is the preferred and most likely only way to get close enough to walk to the mall and parkway. check out the new maps here. there are new stops on the market frankford and broad street lines, including 8th street and 34th street. that's close to the francis festival grounds where tickets are now on sale to actually camp out there. septa says it will update its website for passengers with information on the station that will close on thursday and friday at the pope's visit.

jim, back to you. >> pope francis wants to make it easier for divorced catholics to get an annulment from the church. the catholic church requires members to annul their marriage before they can get remarried in a church. some complain the process is too costly and lasts too long. now pope francis is simplifying and accelerating that process. he says an annulment shouldn't take longer than 45 days. he is also allowing local bishops to decide when an annulment should be granted. the changes come too late for one delaware county man. >> i think it's more of a p.r. thing. i think that i understand what the pope's trying to do. he's trying to change with the times. but i don't necessarily agree with the entire process itself. >> in a statement today, the archdiocese of philadelphia says marriage is still supposed to be considered permanent but they say for years, they tried to make the process easier for catholics trying to get an annulment for what they consider valid reasons.

stay with nbc 10 and the nbc 10 news app for continuing coverage as we get set for the pope's arrival. download the free app right now. an update to a story we brought you at 5:30. fire officials now say that massive forest fire in south jersey is now 100% contained. but the fire burned about 1,000 acres in woodland and manchester township since it was spotted yesterday. no homes are threatened but smoke has been blowing into populated areas including several retirement communities. health officials are urging people with breathing problems to stay inside to avoid inhaling that drifting smoke. >> i just came from the store. and everybody was saying go back in, it's so much nicer in the store, in the food store with the air conditioning. don't come out. it's awful air. >> the lack of rain over the past couple weeks made the pinelands especially vulnerable to fires. sheena, does the heat add to our fire danger at this point? let's check in with her.

>> yeah, because the heat is really with this weather pattern that's keeping us dry so it is adding on to that. it's been 18 days since we had measurable rainfall in this part of new jersey, especially, so abnormally dry is what we are calling it at the moment. we are not technically in a drought in this area but we are lacking the rainfall. however, we will start to pick up some rainfall as we go later on into the week. the heat is still here, the try air mass is still in place. we expect even most of tomorrow to be on the dry side. 92 degrees right now northeast philly. 91 philadelphia. 92 in allentown. and still, suburbs in new jersey and delaware right around the mid 80s. dover has jumped up now to 90 degrees. the average high is 81. we have been well above average across this past weekend. yesterday, today, we have hit 94 so far. tomorrow we expect to be around 90. that would be heat wave number six, believe it or not. if we hit 90 degrees tomorrow. by thursday, we finally break out of this summer-like pattern. that's going to come with some rain.

some of that rain could be locally heavy. that's off to the west right now. i have circled it here. it's this line of showers and storms leaving chicago, heading in this direction. so by late wednesday and into thursday, we will have some rain relief with our temperatures. but even behind the rain, we have some cooler changes coming. those will stick around for your weekend, too. we will take a look at the timing of the rain and how cool it will get coming up. the annual ritual is back. parents saying their good-byes and sending their kids off to school today in philadelphia. mayor michael nutter shaking hands with kids at carver high school. this is a s.t.e.m. magnet school that added seventh and eighth grade for the first time. students at one school got quite the surprise. nbc 10 south jersey bureau reporter cydney long explains athletic star power and this message is one students will look up to. >> reporter: nothing like a 6'11" nba player to tip off the school year in camden.

that was the big surprise. lenape high school graduate jason thompson, short-lived on the 76ers, now a golden state warrior, delivered big time, handing out backpacks and school supplies to students who need them most. >> it's going to be nice to see them in the hallways with this stuff. >> it shows our young people how supportive we all are of their academic pursuits and doing well in school. >> i got a nike book bag and i got, i don't know what this stuff is. >> reporter: the school chosen for the giveaways by thompson's foundation because it is in one of camden's neediest neighborhoods and because it's not just the first day of school. it is the first day for the pre-k to eighth graders to be back under the same roof. a devastating flood forced all students to attend school in four different buildings last year. >> very inspiring. all the children here, you know. it's nice that he did this for them. maybe some kids this year didn't

on the deadly shooting on south street in front of the tla last friday night. police telling us john green got into an argument with another man before shots were fired. officers arrested a man and charged him with murder. sources tell nbc 10 the shooting was connected to a concert. a rival rap group was trying to target lil' dirk. green was allegedly hit mistakenly. he was from philadelphia. a child porn bust this evening. detectives arrested victor bennett of norristown after a five-month investigation. police say they found images on his computer when they searched his home in june. dozens of people in burlington county took advantage of a free ride instead of driving drunk over the holiday weekend. the new shuttle service took 65 people home from restaurants and bars along with their vehicles over the three days. the 30-day program called evesham saves lives kicked off friday night. police, mothers against drunk driving, sober sam and all 18 restaurants with liquor licenses joined forces.

new push to suspend the law license of pennsylvania's attorney general kathleen kane comes as kane faces criminal charges. the state's attorney ethics office is calling for the state supreme court to suspend kane's law license, arguing a conflict of interest. kane's facing charges for allegedly leaking information from a grand jury probe and then lying under oath. we reached out to kane for comment. she hasn't responded today but

has denied wrongdoing in the past. tonight at 6:00, the ripple effect of a fophoenixville fami tragedy. one of the victims of yesterday's center city taxi crash worked with her mother and two sisters at her hometown ymca. now that workplace is in mourning as investigators look for answers. nbc 10's george spencer has been tracking the latest in the investigation. he's live at the scene of the crash. george? >> reporter: today we confirmed that witnesses are telling investigators that the taxi driver had the green light as he headed northbound here on broad street. for loved ones of those two victims, this loss is raw. phoenixville native amanda digirolomo followed in her family's foot steps. after finishing college, the exercise science major joined her mother and two sisters working at the freedom valley ymca near their home. tonight, that one family's tragedy is rippling through the larger workplace family.

>> she lived life to the fullest and we loved having her as part of our family. we are truly going to miss her. >> reporter: the executive director deirdre wood described the young woman as vibrant. today we confirmed that witnesses are telling police the taxi driver who hit her and a friend, bryan botti, had the green light and the victims were crossing on red around 4:30 yesterday morning. but witnesses also say the cab was speeding, perhaps double the 25 mile an hour speed limit. it could result in criminal charges depending on what investigators find. >> we have a very small family here at the ymca of staff employees and everybody's just going through a difficult time and just needs a little bit of some peace. >> reporter: the driver volunteered to give a blood sample to prove he was not impaired. in digirolomo's neighborhood today and for members at the ymca where she worked, the loss is a painful reminder. >> you have to live every moment

and enjoy every moment because you never know. >> reporter: lab analysis of the driver's blood will take at least two weeks and for now, rosemont taxi is saying little, telling us only that that driver had no previous driving issues. live in center city, george spencer, nbc 10 news. to politics now. joe biden still hasn't made up his mind about running for president but that's not stopping his rise in the polls. a new monmouth university poll released today shows the vice president pulling ahead of bernie sanders for second place. hillary clinton still has a large lead but has lost ground in the past month. the same poll last week showed donald trump is the leading gop candidate. this year's made in america music festival was a record breaker. the city announced today more than 130,000 people were on the ben franklin parkway for the festival over the holiday

weekend. 65,000 on saturday, 64,000 sunday. those are the largest crowds the festival has ever seen in its four year run. this was also the first time both days sold out. fresh off selling out the linc, philly native kevin hart is going to perform his what now show at a new year's eve stop in atlantic city's boardwalk hall. tickets go on sale thursday at noon. another hot day with temperatures well above normal for this time of year. we were in the mid 90s in a lot of locations today and if we hit 90 degrees tomorrow, which is expected, we will be in heat wave number six. now we eventually cool down after that, but first we will see some thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall move through. that's mainly going to be thursday. with any heavy rain there is the possibility for localized flooding. of course, we will track that. but behind the rain, we have a cooler air mass moving in.

that will set us up for a cooler weekend actually right around where we should be this time of year with our temperatures. here's a beautiful look at cape may right now. clear skies, a lot of sunshine and this is the place you want to go with any relief around. temperatures in cape may, upper 70s, sunshine around but it feels more like 84 degrees when you factor in the humidity. elsewhere, we are still in the 90s. 92 allentown, 90 reading, 89 pottstown, 91 philadelphia, low 90s still in bensalem. 88 glassboro. 90 degrees in dover. so dover started heating up late this afternoon. locally, we are dry, we will stay that way tonight. but the rain we're watching for late wednesday and thursday, that's off around chicago. so this line of showers and storms, that's moving in this direction. we could see some showers as early as tomorrow afternoon but a majority of the rain will be here on thursday. that rain's going to help hold our temperatures down but it's really the air mass moving in once the rain leaves that's going to set us up for a nice cooler weekend. take a look at future weather. tonight we stay dry but then we could have patchy fog

developing. some morning clouds around by 8:00. through the afternoon, we should be getting close to 90 degrees still. if we do hit 90, that would officially put us in that next heat wave. by 5:00 p.m., models have been trying to indicate at least a few popup showers, maybe a thunderstorm, can't rule that out. a majority of the rain starts to move in on thursday. now here's thursday. by noon, we could have some heavy pockets of rain and again, any heavy rain could lead to localized flooding. also scattered thunderstorms around. through the afternoon, thursday, the rain will still be lingering until about friday. then we see things really clearing out and at this time, that's when the cooler air starts to move in. not today, though. today we were well into the mid 90s. mid to upper 90s in new york this afternoon. that's all the heat that's around the northeast. this extends through a lot of the country but that cooler air, that's just up to the north and west. that cool air moves in once this rain moves through, so that's going to set us up for temperatures possibly in the upper 70s as we go through part of your weekend. tonight, warm and humid, late

patchy fog. mid 70s philadelphia, 67 degrees north and west. tomorrow, hot and humid, chance of some late day showers but i think most of the day we should be staying dry. temperatures still near 90 degrees. then more rain by thursday, showers and thunderstorms, mid 80s with the rain. once all that leaves, temperatures drop down into the low 80s to start your weekend, possibly upper 70s sunday. we will be watching for any rain chances over the weekend, too. john? thank you, sheena. coming up, one-on-one with eagles safety malcolm jenkins plus an injured eagle has been cleared to practice. lesean mccoy talking about the birds. again. that's next.

i'm john clark from comcast sports net. good news, eagle fans. it looks like tight end zack ertz may be ready for the season opener. he has been cleared to practice. the eagles defenseity line is one of the best units on the team. look out, falcons offense tiff line. they're a mess. they let go of a few players on their line this week. the birds were second in the nfl in sacks last year. i sat down with safety malcolm jenkins today. he knows his "d" will get after that line. >> i'm sure fletcher cox and conner barwin and those guys are really looking forward to the matchups. for me, i think our "d" line and outside linebackers can match up against any offensive line in this league. >> reporter: how do you feel about the secondary going into this season compared to last season? >> i think i'm much more confident. i think it's because the guys in the room are much more confident as well. so i'm trying to compete to keep up with these guys, where last year, everyone kind of looked toward me.
