what a pity. nbc 10 news starts now. happening today, preparing for the pope. several communities across this area are holding special meetings today to discuss the pontiff's visit and its impact on your routine. hot and humid yet again as we see a warm breeze blowing that american flag in center city. expect another day of temperatures in the 90s. but changes are on the way and we will start to see those later today. but, so far the heat is cause something schools to cut classes short today. we'll tell you which schools are closing early because of the warm weather. good morning on this wednesday, this is nbc 10 news today. i'm chris cato. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley and his first alert forecast. it got well into the 90s

yesterday and that humidity was oppressive. >> it will be high again today. 94 yesterday. close to this this afternoon, this morning, the temperatures in the upper 70s in philadelphia. 78 in northeast philadelphia. wilmington not much cooler at 76 degrees. even farther north and west where we normally see cooler temperatures, allentown at 74, 73 in reading and middle 70s in delaware and south jersey. it's a warm start all around. it will be another hot and humid day today with the temperatures taking off. 75 degrees at 6:00 but we'll be close to 80 degrees at 9:00 and there will be more clouds around today as we go into the noontime hour, 87 degrees with a southwesterly wind bringing in additional humidity. dry this morning. we'll be watching for showers this afternoon. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back in ten. chris? the new school year was just getting warmed up when the weather warmed up. today's heat means a half day for some schools in this area.

we learned schools in new jersey are closing early. >> reporter: we'll get to the list in just a moment. when you have the hot temperatures, a lot these buildings are older and they have units that don't have air conditioning in in them. it can get inside rather quickly. as bill said, today's temperatures are expected to get into the 90s again with the feels-like temperature even hotter than that. this hot weather comes just as many schools are opening up this week, including philadelphia schools which started yesterday. right now, philadelphia schools are scheduled for a regular day. we plan on calling them again in a few minutes to find out how they would make a decision. let's get to the schools closing early. here's the list, trenton public schools and catholic schools are all closing early today. hamilton township schools in new jersey are on early dismissal and the keystone academy charter school here in philadelphia is also closing early. philadelphia schools are open for a regular day as of now. if anything changes, we will be

chris? happening today, 10,000 free tickets will be up for grabs for the papal mass on the parkway during the pope's visit to philadelphia. those will be released online starting at 8:00 tonight. at 4:00 this afternoon, 10,000 tickets to the festival of familiar lus will be given away. you better act fast if you want those tickets. yesterday 10,000 tickets for the pontiff's speech at independence hall were gone in two minutes flat. minutes later, someone put some of those free tickets up for sale on sites like ebay and craigslist for as much as $1,000. mayor michael nutter was not happy. >> in the neighborhood where i grew up, that's trifling. >> the festival of family tickets will go on sale at 4:00. the papal mass tickets will be released at 8:00. and if you live in the suburbs, the pope's visit probably affect you, even if you

don't plan to head to philadelphia. there are several meetings in communities across the area to help you learn what's happening in your town. nbc 10's katy zachry is live in radnor to explain. katie? >> reporter: chris, here in radnor township they have a septa regional rail train running as well as a trolley line. here's what they're worried. they want to get everyone to and from philadelphia safely. they want to minimize the impact on regular traffic in the community and make sure emergency response is unaffected. today there are three meetings to take out the township's plan for traffic congestion, road closures, the overall impact of the community when pope francis is in philadelphia and the days leading up to the pontiff's visit. the first meeting is at 7:30, that one is more focused on the business community. coming up in a half hour, we'll talk about how school districts and colleges in radnor township

will be affected during those days when pope is here. leaders in delaware county map out their transportation and and safety plan for the papal visit. that includes what to expect from public transit, traffic congestion, crowd control and any other problems that may come up during the pope's visit. today's briefing take place at 1:00 p.m. at the delaware county emergency services center. council members in norristown will hold a public meeting as well. it's one of four septa hubs in montgomery county. leaders will discuss transportation issues, road closures and emergency surfaces -- emergency services during the pope's trip to philadelphia. ahead in just a few minutes, septa is now changing its service plans for the pope's visit. you'll see what the transit agency is doing now to have more trains stopping at more stations even if you're not going to see the pope. remember, the nbc 10 app has everything you need to know to prepare for the pope. owl find detailed information on

mass transit and road closures. you'll also get instructions on how to register for thoseç tickets for pope francis and you'll find a list of things to leave at home if you're headed to the parkway that weekend. we expect to learn more about the plane crash that killed "philadelphia inquirer" co-owner louis katz. their jet overran a runway and crashed in massachusetts last may. a preliminary report suggests that the crew ignored a safety check. this morning, we expect to wlern more about the taxi cab crash that killed two people who came to philadelphia for the made in america festival. police say the cab driver likely had a green light. it happened early monday morning in center city. witnesses say the driver hit the couple as they were crossing broad street. police are now working to verify that information. they're also trying to confirm just how fast that driver was

going at the time of the crash. amanda digirolomo died along with her boyfriend. 4:08 now from our south jersey bureau. a man who helped homeless drug addicts is now accuse of running an operation that sold heroin and crack. he was a program coordinator for joseph's house, a homeless shelter in camden. the shelter's director says miller no longer works there. >> from skyforce 10, a forest fire near the burlington county/ocean county line is now 100% contained after burning more than 1,000 acres since monday. we expect to learn the cause of the fire later this morning. parts of that fire are still burning in woodland and manchester townships and crews will continue to strengthen and monitor their fire lines until they get enough rain to help them extinguish the flames.

side. if you're going to get on mass transit or take anything like that, no problems for new jersey transit, patco and septa. kim davis, the clerk of court who refused to issue the same-sex marriage licenses could be back on the job in kentucky. this is the rock star-like she got after being released to jail. what she said that may indicate she'll defy the judge's orders. passengers and crew forced to escape a jetliner as fire breaks out.

box for your tv with siri. we'll tell you about those gaujettes on nbc 10 this afternoon. septa has announced changes that should help you get around town during the pope's visit even if you want going to see him. yesterday, septa announced it has doubled the number of stops that will be open for the pope's trip to philadelphia, that includes stops on the broad street subway and market frankford "l" on september 26th and 27th. >> i don't want to be part of the chaos. >> septa says these changes are the result of public feedback. philadelphia international airport is still waiting for a papal payoff. according to our partners at the philadelphia business journal, the airport isn't seeing a major increase for the week of the pope's visit just yet. the journal found that philadelphia has the lowest international demand that week compared to new york and washington. ahead in our next half hour, you could call it camping out

there are new allegations surrounding the new england patriots and whether they've been cheating. and now the eagles are involved in this. espn released a new report alleging that the patriots videotaped opponents signals for at least 40 games over a seven-year span during bill belichick's time with the team. that's far more games than originally reported. the report says a former member of the eagles football operation says that many people believe the birds were robbed in super bowl xxxix. some players said the patriots knew their signals and were calling out their plays. according to the report, the patriots taped other teams

signals during that game and team employees went through the visiting locker room to find play calling information. also this new information says those employees rummaged through opposing team's hotel rooms looking for playbooks. the report also alleges roger goodell swept those allegations under the russ out of respect for robert kraft, who helped goodell become commissioner. cape may reporting 74 degrees. back in the 80s this afternoon. next at 4:30, animal control investigation, workers from delaware county's animal services are now the focus of two different death cases. we'll tell you why.
