play ball. >> let's take a look at nbc 10 first alert radar. see all that green there? rain is moving in. lot of it in fact. let's go to first alert meteorologist. is this going to cause problems for the morning commute? >> in the morning, we could see showers but right now, we're mostry dry unless you're up near the polke anoes. and more rain is going to move through overnight tonight. and there you see the rain back off to our south and west. we expect heavy rain. some could cause localized thunder and overnight, we expect showers but now we're looking at 8:00 in the morning. we could have a bit of a break but we're still at a fair chance for scattered showers in the morning commute.

temperatures will be in about 24 m -- mid-70s. we had a heat wave and even cooler temperatures ahead going into your weekend. now, thousands of tickets to see the pope in philadelphia, all gone in seconds. >> the final free tickets were given out in just 30 seconds. the tickets for the papal mass went up for grabs at 8:00 tonight. and another tickets will reserve in two minutes. you can still attend both events without tickets but you'll see much farther away from the stage and you can see the pope francis parade down the parkway. he'll go down the parkway, round city hall and back to the festival grounds. a shorter parade will take place on monday.

>> and with just over two weeks until the papal visit, people all over the area trying to figure out how it's going to impact them. >> and local leaders spent the day answering a lot of questions. >> reporter: yes. some people found out just how close they're going to get to the pope on the benenson franklin parkway and others learned how to stay far away. it's a scenic boulevard through the city's cultural heart but change is coming. >> parking, access zones r there going to be fences? >> reporter: he admits he even has questions. >> peafor about a week, people going to have to reschedule their lives. >> reporter: and that's why they came to one of the open regional spots. >> it's potentially 15,000

changes. now at 11:00, the victim strike back. >> the thieves didn't expect the victim to pull a gun of his own as nbc 10 reports, police call it self defense. >> reporter: the sound of gun fire jolted neighbors from their sleep. >> it was loud and sounded like it was real close. >> reporter: parents too afraid to show their faces hunkered down with their children. they say one of their long-time neighbors came under fire early this morning by two would-be robbers. >> once he came home and realized somebody was trying to rob him, wherever he had his gun out, he pulled it out. >> reporter: they say he barely had time to get out of his car. they say the victim always carries his licensed gun.

well, he shot one of the gunman where he ran across the street and collapsed and the other one got away. >> this time they ran upon the right one. >> reporter: police questioned the man and no charges have been filed. neighbors say the victim did what he had to, to protect himself. >> it's a shame you have to carry a gun in this neighborhood but that's the way it is. man accused of kidnapping a woman off a philadelphia street corner expected to change his plea tomorrow. he pleaded not guilty last november and a hearing scheduled tomorrow to change that plea. they say he kidnapped his victim off the street in germantown. and held her in his car trunk for some of the time before she was rescued three days later in maryland. and prison officers facing federal charges tonight. the guards are accused of

smuggling in contraband guns and sometimes cell phones, in exchange for cash. and they're being suspended as of today. new at 11:00, the delaware spca is trying to save a puppy who was in a duffle bag. she's being treated for heat stroke and parvo virus. they're asking for donations to pay for her emergency care. engineers spent the night inspecting a hanger. four employees were injured. two of the workers seriously hurt and two others suffered minor injuries. and federal investigators blame the pilots including billionaire fulanth rupist philip katz.

they say they failed to do a preflight safety checklist and didn't notice that the elevators were locked. it crashd and caught fire. they believe the flight crew routinely ignored pre-flight checklists. >> this accident was preventible and it just shows us the importance of following procedures each and every time a plane takes off. >> the national transportation safety board says the veteran crew failed in 98% of their previous 175 take offs to follow safety protocols. lawyers for kathleen kane say information is being leaked to possibly suspend kane's law license as she faces charges. the fact that the documents are

glass touch surface remote. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> we have big changes moving in just in time for your thursday. very different from the heat we saw today. some of you might hear overnight showers and tomorrow, we have heavy rain in the forecast, mostly in the afternoon. heavy rain is also going to be cooling our temperatures down and behind the rain, we're going to cool down even more going into your weekend. and at 7:00 tomorrow morning, there's still a chance for a shower. this may be the quietest time for the rain. and mid-70s in philadelphia and new jersey and delaware right around the mid to low 70s. and the chance for showers is going to increase through the afternoon. and we do have some rain around currently. mostly up into parts of lehigh valley. one valley, you're move nothing

to burks county and up easten, and bethlehem area seeing heavy rain as well. more of these scattered showers move through tonight and around west virginia, that's going to get closer. and you see more moisture down around atlanta and that also will be moving through tomorrow. for the morning commute, puts us in a lull and dries us out a little bit. and humid. and then we go into the earl eafternoon, 4:00 p.m., expect scattered showers, maybe thunderstorms and temperatures by this time could only be around 80 degrees and once that rain really starts to move in and locally heavy rain, it could drop some areas into the 60s. we could see localized flooding and by 10:00, finally, we start to see most of this clear out

and then we really clear out going into friday. the highs on friday only about the mid to low 80s. as far as the rainfall, totals range anywhere from maybe about an inch 1/2 to almost three inches. some areas could see more with the heavy rain and that's why we're calling for localized flooding possible. tomorrow, warm and humid showers increasing overnight. and temperatures ranging from about the mid-70s to mid-80s. but once that rain moves over your area, it's going to cool things ing into the weekend, another round of rain but low 80s, upper 70s and we're talking about really nice dry cool weather next week. several homes all veterans in camden received meals today. the cooks at merino's beast row
