nbc 10 news starts now. right now on nbc 10 news today, 9/11, the day that changed it all. we'll tell you how people from new york to this area are paying tribute to the victims 14 years later. and preparing for the pope with just over two weeks until the papal visit, the secret service gives us this glimpse at security in the city. we'll explain what it means for those of you who live and work in center city. plus, getting around not so easy for some travelers this morning. storms pound pars of the area overnight, leading to flooding on some roads. but that should be drying out. the rain is moving out now as we take a live look at the comcast center in center city.ç

sunshine expected to make a return today but more wet weather headed this way for the weekend. rain possible for your weekend. it's okay, though, it's friday. we can get through this. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm chris cato. we go to meteorologist bill henley with his first alert forecast. >> last night we saw three, four, five inches of rain coming down in parts of new jersey. that's where you'll find a flood warning in effect. as far as showers are concerned, not much left. a light shower over bucks county, heading towards trenton. this is the area that saw three, four, five inches of rain from yesterday's storms. the rain is done for today other than those few scattered showers. right now 58 degrees. mostly cloudy at 6:00. by 9:00, 72 and then there's the sunshine. noontime today, 78 degrees. some spots will get warmer than others. we go through it neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington is watching

your friday morning traffic. >> we're looking live right now. wet roadways and potentially slippery conditions. something to watch out for on the vine street expressway around 24th street. with all the streetlights highlighting the roadway, definitely ponding in the area. not a lot going on in terms of traffic right now. westbound 95 up towards the schuylkill expressway, that's in here for 30th street station, no problem. if we're heading out the door for the rest of your drive times, heading into the philadelphia area on 95 and the schuylkill expressway, 13 minutes in both directions. if you're on the blue route southbound from the schuylkill up towards 95 we don'tly have a 15-minute trip. no problems there. with all of this extreme weather we generally check the philadelphia international airport. currently no delays there. mass transit doing just fine. chris? let's take a look at some of the flooding, bill showed us the map with the heaviest area of

rain. we shot this video on route 130, at the brooklawn circle, camden county. this car having trouble getting through the water there. never drive through standing water. you can get yourself in trouble. this here is at route 135, mantua township. the road is back open this morning. we have just 15 days away until pope francis arrives in florida. you're looking at animations of screening stations that will be set up in and around center city. the secret service released this video, giving us a closer look at how the security will transform the city. a number of screening areas will be equipped with metal

detectors. people who live within the perimeter will start having to move their cars about a week in advance on september 20th. it won't be easy. it's not ideal but i don't see it feasible to park it local and not have to worry about it. >> now, residents can park in the naval hospital lot in south philadelphia for free but there are only 1,500 spaces. you'll have to act fast on that. the parking authority is selling spots in six designated parking garages, $20 for the entire weekend.ç and with that security zone setting up next week. citizens and businesses aren't the only ones making plans on how to get around in center city. charities like m.a.n.a. still have to make arrangements to get food around the city. >> chris, they are up to that challenge. fortunately businesses and charities in our area have had a little bit of time to prepare for the papal visit.

i spoke with the folks at m.a.n.a. earlier this week, they said they have to deliver tens of thousands of meals throughout this region. their headquarters is in center city. they are within the restricted area and won't be able to get deliveries out. since not making deliveries is not an option, they are trying to get all the food out monday to wednesday instead of monday to friday. that means more of an effort to volunteers, cooks, drivers, everyone working behind the scenes to get the food out and on the table for those who need it. >> i love that we're going to get to show off the city of philadelphia off with visitors coming. but we have to prepare months ahead of time. >> reporter: no one, not even charities are exempt from the traffic restreks that weekend. while it may seem daunting, some of the volunteers say they've done something similar to this before. that's giving them a sigh of relief. more on that part of the story in the next hour.

live from center city, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. montgomery county commissioners will hold a briefing to go over their plans for the papal visit. the meeting begins at 9:30 this morning at the county's public safety training campus in conshohocken. in delaware, transportation officials are gearing up for the pope's arrival. they're hosting a media roundtable at 10:00 this morning at the d.a.r.t. administrative office in wilmington. they will go over details surrounding the papal visit. we are expecting travelers coming in from the wilmington area for the world meeting of families this week and in the papal visit weekend as the pope gets set to arrive in philadelphia in just 15 days. 4:06 now. searching for a survivor but fearing a fatality. helicopters and boats are still look for a pilot who crashed yesterday off the jersey shore. nbc 10's tracy davidson is live in our digital operations center with more on that pilot and

clues about the crash. >> we don't know what caused the crash but we do know the pilot was flying in bad weather. his plane went down yesterday afternoon about seven miles off the coast of atlantic city. the coast guard was able to get out to the crash scene quickly where they found a fairly contained area of debris. the muni 120 single engine aircraft was approaching the end of its flight from gaylord, michigan, to atlantic city. >> they are about seven miles off the coast. 800 feet he's gone into the ocean. >> now, here's a picture of our first alert weather radar at the time the plane crashed. an aviation expert said the heavy rain might be why the plane ended up seven miles offshore in the opposite side of the atlantic city international airport. the plane is registered to a 68-year-old man from michigan. as soon as we get new information, we'll pass it along. live in the digital operations center, tracy davidson, nbc 10 news. 4:07 now. today marks 14 years since the

day that changed everything. 9/11. philadelphia will mark this day by holing a memorial walk toç honor those who died. it will start at fireman's hall museum at 9:59, the time that the first tower collapsed. it will continue to the betsy ross house and museum on arch street. philadelphia international airport will also honor the victims. the airport is holdinging a sayre moan anyone side the international arrivals hall at 11:00 a.m. on this day in 2001, terrorists hijacked four commercial jets and crashed three of them into the world trade center and pentagon, killing 3,000 people. passengers fought back on the fourth plane, forcing it to crash into a field in shanksville, somerset county. today, family and friends will attend a viewing for a south jersey teenager who died at a friend's sleepover. 14 years carolyn monowicz died.

authoritieses say the death is not suspicious. they believe a medical condition may have played a role. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 4:09. heavy rainfall yesterday and last night. quickly coming to an end this morning. we are drying out today. even though we're starting with cloudy skies, we will see some sunshine as we go into the afternoon. a warm day. we will get sunshine this weekend. unfortunately i think we'll also get showers and thunderstorms. some of those thunderstorms could be strong. then turning cooler over the weekend, that will last into the workweek. right now, temperatures down to 64 degrees in doylestown, light scattered rain showers in philadelphia and millville. upper 60s, we'll see 80s this afternoon. you can see the clouds over center city and beyond, this is the view from the comcast center. the clouds stay time to thin out. but they will. we'll get sunshine and the drying out process will start after that heavy rainfall

overnight. not much left of it, light showers moving the trenton area. it is a light, misty rainfall in philadelphia and millville. it's already starting to clear out. and sunshine will warm things up. it will be a warm, summer day. 84 for allentown, low 80s for reading and quakertown. trenton 84 this afternoon. skies turning partly sunny for doylestown and mt. holly. the clouds thin out, 83 for cape may, vineland also up to 83. just a little bit warmer in dover. clouds to start with for wilmington, drexel hill and swedesboro but then sunshine breaks through. we're in the 80s this afternoon. the weekend, though, temperatures will be returning cooler and and the chance of showers. a closer look at that, chris, when i'm back in ten minutes. 4:10. as bill mentioned there is still standing water out there, even though the rain is moving out of way. it looks like we can see that on one of our handy traffic

cameras. >> i wanted to show this to viewers right now because out in pennsauken we're on 73, this is in new jersey right around route 130. every time a car goes by, you can see water just spray up out from underneath. it looks like it's going to be okay to drive through. you want to take your time heading out the door this morning, give yourself an extra 10, 15 minutes. it will be worth it. reports of flooding in west deptford on crown point road east and westbound between 295 and delaware street. watch out for that. if you're heading out the door on the 42 freeway, we'll take a fly that way. everything still moving along nicely. the highway is doing better than ne areas. northbound on 55 up towards the walt whitman bridge still doing okay. coming up in the next ten minutes, i'll go over mass transit with you. one marine is dead, others are hurt after an accident at a military base. we'll tell you what

hostages inside. a brush fire near sacramento is exploding into size. the fire has burned 4,000 acres and has already destroyed several homes and buildings.ç helicopters and tanker planes cannot keep up with the flames jumping from ridge top to ridge top. ground crews are filling tinker trucks with water. a rollover crash quilled a marine and injured 18 others at camp pndleen to in california. it happened yesterday afternoon. officials are giving no other details right now. identity of the marine who was killed has not been released either. an investigation continues here. happening today, a remembrance ceremony will be held at the site of the world trade center in lower manhattan. two memorial pools stand in the footprints of the towers now and

the names of those kills that day are etched in stone. ceremonies are also being held at the pentagon, of course and in shanksville, pennsylvania, where two other jets crashed. >> the iran nuclear deal survived a key vote in the senate. it's a victory for president barack obama and now the nuclear deal will move forward. the deal reduces international economic sanctions against iran in exchange for that nation ending its pursuit of nuclear weapons. it also requires iran to reduce its stockpile of enriched uranium over the next decade. president obama is opening the doors to thousands of syrian refugees. the president has directed his administration to take in at least 10,000 of those refugees next year. tens of thousands of people are fleeing syria right now amid war and poverty. they're making a dangerous trek towards europe in search of safety and shelter. hungary says more than 160,000 refugees have crossed its border this year alone.

on to decision 2016 now. vice president joe biden says he's just unsure he can commit fully to running for president. last night he was on the late show with stephen colbert. he said he'll be lying if he knew he was prepared to run following the death of his son beau from brain cancer may. he says he's still emotional and overwhelmed right now. tonight, donald trump will be on "the tonight show" with jimmy fallon. he'll discuss his campaign and a things as well. fallon may make a few jokes at the billionaire's expense. trump is leading in most polls among a field of 17 republican candidates. you can watch jimmy fallon on nbc 10 after the 11:00 news. new york's police commissioner is apologizing to former tennis star james blake for what is being called a case of mistaken identity. the nypd says blake was detained wednesday as they were

sunshine to warm temperatures from the 60s to the 80s. light rainfall moving through philadelphia. you can see it on this live view from the sports complex, south philadelphia getting light rain. those showers are pushing now into new jersey. you can see just a little bit of rain, just clearing south philadelphia and moving into gloucester county where there is a flood warning still in effect for the heavy rainfall that came in yesterday, 3, 4, 5 inches of rain in this area. you'll find ponding on some of the roadways there. we'll be drying out today. over the weekend, look at this, another line of showers and thunderstorms and that's a possibility for saturday and can't rule out showers for sunday either. those storms willing on the move the next 24 hours. we should be dry for the next 24 hours. but this could move in in the afternoon on saturday, but there are indications it might hold off until later on saturday as well. saturday morning we'll be in the clear. the wet weather will be in
