he was on duty at the time, on his police motorcycle, when it appears that he was blindsided, hit and then thrown some 30, maybe 40 feet off his motorcycle. the suspect vehicle took off but this officer was taken here to chester crozer medical center. he is here right now being checked on. again, good news is he's going to survive. let me show you the scene. this is along 291 in chester, actually just across from the harrah's casino down there. that whole road has been closed off because of this investigation. heavy traffic delays. police are saying it appears this officer was struck head-on by an early model, maybe year 2000 pontiac grand prix, possibly with a green trunk or green hood. the car is likely red or burgundy. this officer is a 12 year veteran of the police force. as detectives continue to search for that hit and run driver, we are told that this officer is expected to be okay. ironically, he actually works

for the accident investigations division at the chester police department. again, he is being held for observation. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. this just in. we are getting a look at surveillance video of a police officer tackling former tennis star james blake. you can see blake standing outside the grand hyatt new york wednesday when a plain clothes officer suddeny jumped him and knocked him to the ground. new york's police commissioner says blake was mistaken for an identity theft suspect and has since apologized. the officer has been placed on desk duty. to your first alert weather. the sun returns finally after a rainy 24 hours but more wet weather is on its way this weekend. >> nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here. we should be able to squeeze in a few dry hours. >> yeah, even on saturday, when we are expecting the most rain, it will not be raining all day. look how beautiful this is.

going to be dry tonight, first thing in the morning, then things start to change. the clouds from yesterday's storm are just barely moving out but here comes the next one. that's from ohio down into kentucky, line of showers, even some thunderstorms. now, the temperature this afternoon held down a little bit by the clouds, especially in new jersey. that's why it's cooler there. it's warmer from philadelphia north and west. 83 degrees in philadelphia right now. with a relatively low humidity and clear skies, it will be a really nice evening. we have 81 degrees at 6:00 and we are dropping to about 70 at 10:00. some of the suburban areas will be dropping into the 50s by morning. more on the timing of that weekend rain with the seven-day in a few minutes. right now at 5:00, barricad out of their home. a philadelphia couple returned from vacation to find this blocking their front door.

the couple tells nbc 10 they have been fighting for decades to clean up this dilapidated building. >> they say this is the worst it has ever been. you see scaffolding covering large portions of their home. the couple spoke only to nbc 10's george spencer. he is live outside the home on christian street in south philadelphia. >> you did some digging into the owners of that property. i understand you found a history of problems? >> reporter: we counted up 20 old violations for this property. l & i tells us there is only one open permit for the site, a permit for work to make this property safe. it's ironic because neighbors say it's probably now more dangerous than it's ever been. >> we saw yellow tape all the way around. >> reporter: a wall of yellow tape and scaffolding blocked pete and his wife debra as they approached their own front door after a week's vacation. this long vacant property next

door to their home at 17th and christian presented its biggest frustration yet. >> i'm ready to move. i'm ready to say good-bye to philadelphia. >> i felt violated. >> reporter: they feel like a case study for the trials of an aging city. for two decades, neighbors here have jumped through every bureaucratic hoop, dozens of calls to l & i, even attempts to take control of the property in court, yet no resolution. this property is in a high traffic spot, especially for kids. it is just steps away from edwin stanton el machine tementary. we checked online and found the property owner listed as a developing company. we counted 20 violations listed in 1700 christian street's history. most now closed. late today, we tracked down the owner. how long are you expecting to have this scaffolding up? >> how long do i expect to have the scaffolding up? long as it takes these guys to complete the walls and the brick. probably the next three weeks.

>> reporter: johnson insists he's hoping to turn the property into a community jewel but for now, l & i says his only permit is to make it safe, not to renovate. johnson disputes their record and neighbors are left shaking their heads. l & i says it has used all its powers to address this situation, issuing fines and violations, even having the city solicitor take the property owner to court. one thing it cannot do is take someone's property without due process. i'm george spencer, nbc 10 news. the nbc 10 investigators have been looking into the city's much larger problem with vacant properties. according to new numbers we just got from the city, there are more than 16,000 in philadelphia. that's down about 10,000 from earlier this year. more than 11,000 of those properties are considered vacant but safe. more than 5,000 are considered unsafe. the city considers 281 of those

properties imminently dangerous. federal agents are searching a home, they were searching a home in delaware county after gunfire erupted leaving one person dead. sources tell nbc 10 agents were executing a search warrant at a chester home this morning in connection with a child pornography investigation. shots were fired as federal agents entered the home on highland avenue and a man was killed. >> i heard some people say get on the ground, get on the ground and i heard pop pop pop pop pop pop. >> the fbi has not released the name of the person who died but tells us three people were taken into custody today. it's unclear if they are still being questioned. we are learning new details about the pope's upcoming visit. officials in montgomery county say they will use every resource available to make sure the papal visit goes smoothly. they say 300 national guard members will be deployed and doctors have now joined the volunteer ranks to help respond in case of an emergency. the major concern for all, though, traffic.

>> gator type vehicles throughout the area with long beds in the event we have emergency care on the highways, ambulances can't get to. in addition we will have water staged throughout the area. we will have power bars, that type of stuff in the event of gridlock. >> haz/mat and s.w.a.t. teams will also be deployed. the state of delaware is gearing up for the papal visit. nbc 10 in wilmington. officials there held this roundtable discussion regarding transportation plans for the first state. the bottom line, they are advising people to use public transportation into philadelphia rather than driving themselves. today we paused to remember one of the darkest days in american history. it has been 14 years since the september 11th attacks. >> david scott agnes. >> the somber reading of names by loved ones was part of today's ceremonies in new york. it's been almost a decade and a half since a pair of hijacked

planes brought down the twin towers here. grief remains at ground zero. nearly 3,000 people died, including more than 2700 in new york city. to washington now, where a wreath laying ceremony was held to commemorate the lives lost there. american airlines flight 77 was headed from d.c. to l.a. with 64 people aboard when it was hijacked. it was flown into the pentagon. hundreds gathered for a ceremony to honor the 33 passengers and seven crew members aboard the flight brought down near shanksville, pennsylvania. flight 93 was headed from newark, new jersey to san francisco when it was hijacked with the likely goal of crashing it into the white house or capitol. a passenger revolt brought that plane down in an empty field. pennsylvania's governor recognized those passengers today. >> what they did saved countless lives in washington, d.c. what they did averted a terrible tragedy that would have taken place there had they not acted

as they did here. >> the national park service opened a new visitors center this week in that field in shanksville. it features 40 memorial groves, one for each of the innocent lives lost there. more than a dozen victims of the attacks were from bucks county. their loved ones gathered at a special place created to honor their memory. nbc 10's katie zachary reports from the garden of reflection in bucks county. >> it was the perfect day in new york. it was the perfect day here in yardley. >> reporter: it's how so many of the victims' families remember the start of september 11th, 14 years ago. just a few hours into the morning -- everything changed. >> i'm sure my memories are very similar to everyone else's here. i remember rushing to try to find out where my husband was, where my children were, and where joshua was. >> reporter: judith's son joshua worked at the world trade

center. he never came home. >> in the 14 years, we all stand back and say did we do something wrong? no. we didn't. each one of these people were in the place they were supposed to be doing their jobs that morning. each one of these people would not want us to spend the rest of our lives crying. >> reporter: it's why so many come to the garden of reflection in yardley. over the years it's grown into a moving tribute to the 18 victims from bucks county, each of their names etched in glass around the two fountains. outside of that, the names of the nearly 3,000 victims who lost their lives. grace's son was among them. >> did everyone see the rainbow yesterday over the world trade center? i like to think of that rainbow as the souls of our lost saying we're okay. >> reporter: nbc 10 news.

>> also in bucks county officials will dedicate a new 9/11 memorial sculpture less than an hour from now. the sculpture outside the justice center in doylestown will incorporate an i beam from the world trade center. the memorial is being donated to the county. it honors the memory of the doylestown native while killed in iraq in 2007. the foundation assists veterans and families of fallen soldiers. turning to this now. a candid joe biden explains why he still hasn't decided to run for president. coming up, the vice president's first tv interview since the loss of his son beau and why some fellow democrats don't think he should enter the race. plus, they paid but never got their furniture. the nbc 10 investigators listened to this story after getting complaints from customers. now those victims are about to get their money back. when matt ryan takes the field against the philadelphia

troopers that led to a manhunt in the poconos. trooper alex douglas was seriously hurt. nearly 1,000 officers were taking part in the search for eric frein at one point. six week later they got their man. they found him hiding in an abandoned airport hangar. he was restrained using the handcuffs of the murdered officer. he faces several charges including first degree murder. coming up at 6:00, hear from corporal dickson's father as he copes one year later. plus we head to the poconos as store owners are trying to get back to normal. the mayor of baltimore says she will not run for re-election in the aftermath of riots in her city in april. mayor stephanie rawlings-blake made the announcement this morning. she doesn't want to spend the

rest of her term focusing on a campaign. instead she will spend time trying to stop the spike in violence and tensions with police that followed freddie gray's death. he suffered a severe spinal cord injury inside a police van back in april. >> the last thing i want is for every one of the decisions that i'm making at a time when the city needs me the most to be questioned in the context of a political campaign. >> this week, baltimore officials agreed to pay freddie gray's family a $6.4 million settlement. yesterday a judge ruled that the six officers charged in gray's death will be tried in baltimore. the defense had argued that impartial jurors could not be found in the city. a hero's welcome today in california for three friends now famous for foiling an attack on a train in france. the city of sacramento threw this parade for the trio.

the three grew up in the sacramento area and were vacationing in europe when they tackled a gunman on a high speed train headed from belgium to paris. they have become sudden celebrities in the past few weeks from the late night talk show circuit to a call of congratulations from president obama. they also received france's highest honor from that country's president. this just in on the race for president. the a.p. is reporting former texas governor rick perry will drop out of the race. >> also tonight, political report around v.p. joe biden are increasingly convinced he will run for president. >> reporter: vice president joe biden in new york to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks. >> i know it's a long time. it doesn't go away. >> reporter: as speculation grows about a possible run for president, biden has gained in the polls. on the colbert show, he talked candidly about what it takes to run. >> they can look at the folks out there and say i promise you,

have you my whole heart, my whole soul, my energy and my passion to do this. and i would be lying if i said that i knew i was there. >> reporter: polls place biden third with about 20% of democrat voters and rising. not enough for some democratic insiders. >> he's known by 100% of the electorate. they like him. he's at 20%. that's not going to cut it. this is not a good thing for him to do. >> reporter: hillary clinton still leads the democrats but continues to fall closer to senator bernie sanders. k cnn changed the rules of the next debate to allow carli fiorina on the stage. >> i'm the best qualified candidate to do the job. >> reporter: a new quinnipiac poll shows she was 5% of republicans in iowa in her corner. the other two career non-politicians lead the polls. surgeon ben carson and billionaire donald trump sit on top. trump, now at 27%, more than

double the number of supporters since june. edward lawrence, nbc news, washington. well, we have a one-day break from the rain but more is going to be coming over the weekend. we have a dry start to the weekend but it's not going to stay that way. we do have showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. not all weekend, it's not a washout, but there will be some rain. then we have a week of sunshine to make up for that. lots of sunshine out there right now. it is really nice. 83 degrees with relatively calm wind and the humidity's not too bad either. 83 degrees in philadelphia and northeast philly right now. 82 in reading. now it's in the 70s in much of new jersey, not so much because of the sea breeze but because there has been a lot of clouds around during the day from that storm that is just now exiting.

you can see the wind direction generally out of the north-northeast where it's just starting to get a little wind off the ocean now. it's 76 degrees right at the shore. we have had a stretch of some amazing weekends. just how amazing has it been? all right. friday, saturday or sunday, since july 4th, all those orange ones, those are dry days. that's nine straight weekends without a drop of rain in philadelphia. at the shore, it's ten straight weekends. but that's going to end. the clouds moving out from yesterday's storm. big storm out there. you generally get a little more of a break than what we're getting here but there's that next system already in ohio. we do expect some weekend showers. certainly not during the night tonight. first thing tomorrow we should be pretty dry. there will be time to get out to jog, tennis game, golf, whatever, because in the

afternoon, maybe even early afternoon, we are starting to see some of these cloud buildups bringing in showers and thunderstorms. locally heavy rain. not expecting anything like what we saw yesterday or last night, but it's locally heavy and some of those showers go into the evening hours. but the general trend on sunday now is for improving weather. mix of clouds and sun, just a chance of a shower, mostly dry. so mostly clear tonight, 57 in some of the cooler suburbs to 67 in philadelphia. during the day tomorrow, well, we start off perhaps dry but the showers and thunderstorms especially in the afternoon and at night, the temperatures ranging from the upper 70s to low 80s. then on sunday, we have a mix of sun and clouds, again, just a chance of a shower. most of us may not see any rain.

radio listeners made a record-breaking difference for kids in some tough spots in delaware. final figures are in now from this week's two-day radiothon at the ai. dupont hospital for children in wilmington. listen to this. the event raised more than $300,000 for research. that's a record. it surpassed last year's total by more than $40,000. amazing. going to a great cause, too. a local organization is helping first-time mothers prepare for their new arrival. >> they're doing it by throwing one big baby shower. health insurance provider keystone first hosted its last moms to be baby shower of the year today in chester, delaware county. the event is designed to educate

moms about infant care, sleep, and the benefits of breast feeding. the expectant moms are very receptive. >> they love it. they love the tips they get. they become comfortable asking questions and become their own advocates after awhile. >> the children and families of the mothers were also welcome at the event. keystone first works with expectant mothers throughout their pregnancies. they never got their furniture that they paid for. >> the nbc 10 investigators have been looking into the furniture store behind this problem for months now. now customers are finally getting some results. plus a local officer injured in the line of duty is recognized for his heroic actions next on "nbc 10 news at 5:00."

they paid but never got their furniture. now, those customers are finally getting results. >> the nbc 10 investigators first told you about the issues with the furniture store surplus back in july. investigative reporter mitch blacher is here with an update. mitch? >> reporter: furniture surplus on lancaster avenue has faced multiple allegations of taking customers' money but not delivering the furniture. now the store's owners will have to pay back $75,000 so customers can get their money returned. back in july, we told you about the lancaster avenue location.

it was under new ownership and changed its name at the time to furniture king. still, customers complained they were not getting the furniture that they paid for. besides restitution, the store's three owners can never own, manage or control a furniture business in pennsylvania again. we have reached out to customers we spoke with to see if they had heard about this settlement. so far we have not heard back. i'm mitch blacher, nbc 10 news. a live look now in new york. today, the nation pauses to remember the deadliest attack in american history. it has been 14 years since the september 11th attacks and nearlyly 3,000 people were killed, more than 2700 in new york city. the remainder were in pennsylvania and washington. president obama and the first lady bowed their heads during a ceremony on the white house lawn. the crowd stood gazing toward the pentagon.

the silence was punctured only by the sound of planes taking off and landing at a nearby airport. a local university also paid tribute to the victims of 9/11. for the second year in a row, lehigh university students planted nearly 3,000 small flags early this morning, one for each life lost that day 14 years ago. the display stretches across the lawn at the center of campus and will be removed at 7:00 p.m. a september 11th ceremony included a tip of the cap to a wounded delaware county police officer. county officials recognized ridley park police officer mark hanley as they mark the 9/11 anniversary in media. officer hanley is still on the mend after being shot late last month. authorities say hanley and his partner were trying to convince a suicidal man to surrender when that man opened fire. officer hanley was shot in the chest and leg. he credits his bulletproof vest with saving his life. today, he received the district

attorney's order of merit for heroism. >> the order of merit can be awarded for heroism and bravery and it represents the highest recognition of valor awarded by the district attorney's office. >> the police officers who rescued officer hanley after he was shot were also recognized at today's ceremony. the city of philadelphia mural arts program hosted its last community day for a mural honoring papal visit. more than 150 panels will make up the 4200 foot mural at the future home of the st. malachai school in north philadelphia. >> we feel it's so important that people can look up at a beautiful work of public art and say i did that, i helped make that happen. >> prior to the painting event in connection with the 9/11 anniversary attendees observed a

moment of silence to remember graduates of father judge and st. hubert high schools who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty as first responders. the security surrounding the papal visit is creating challenges for a charity that serves meals to those in need. manna helps deliver tens of thousands of meals every week to some 800 sick and needy people in philadelphia and beyond. their ceo says canceling deliveries is not an option. >> what we are doing is all of our clients that normally would receive their meal delivery on thursday or friday, we will go ahead and send their delivery on monday, tuesday, wednesday. >> the change requires building an inventory for a month. as a result, manna is asking for all types of volunteers including drivers. >> right now, delaware gang members, some as young as 15, are charged with half a dozen murders. they call themselves the touch money gang or tmg and most are

teenagers. police announced indictments against 13 members of the gangs today. charges include murder, robbery, conspiracy and weapons offenses. officials say one of the suspects may have been just 14 years old when the killings happened. peco customers can expect to shell out more money for their electricity next year. the power provider got the okay to raise rates to cover expensive upgrades and new equipment. customers can expect a monthly boost of about $4.17. philadelphia gas works is also pushing for cash to replace old pipes. the struggling please touch museum filed for bankruptcy today but the philadelphia children's museum says it will stay open while it tries to settle its $60 million worth of debt. the president of the museum said she's hopeful that today's filing will lead to a financial resolution. from our nbc 10 delaware bureau, supporting those who care for others. that's what the aarp spent the day doing in wilmington.

it took over the ronald mcdonald house near a.i. dupont hospital for children. employees and volunteers made lunch for families staying while their children were in the hospital. the organization also presented a $5,000 check to the house and sponsored a room in the facility. the aarp is working to boost support and job flexibility for anyone helping to care for a loved one. >> so the fact that i have workplace flexibility and can work from home, go into the office if i can, and work from home at any time of the day, just as long as i get the work done, is such a huge benefit. >> the aarp says 40 million americans provide unpaid care for a family member or neighbor. getting ready to ring in the new year. the jewish new year, that is. >> members of the jewish faith celebrate rosh hoshonna sunday. nbc 10 was in northeast philadelphia this morning where

barclay caterers employees were hard at work making meals. they are one of the few kosher caterers in the philadelphia area. >> we have been prepping all week. we start monday, everybody kicks off their orders on sunday. we have a lot of dinners that will be catering parties at people's houses. >> it marks the start of a ten-day period of prayer and personal reflection. it was a sign that brightened many people's hearts during a very dark time. how this picture of a rainbow gave people hope before the anniversary of 9/11. it's a beautiful end to the work week, lots of blue skies and sunshine. i'm tracking some changes that could affect the weekend. when you will see the rain and storms next. ♪

the associated press is reporting that governor rick perry will drop out of the presidential race. what you're looking at now is a live picture of an event that he's expected to hold right now in st. louis. you see somebody at the podium. that is not rick perry. again, he hasn't made an official announcement to this point. we expect him to make this announcement here in sait. loui. we will keep you posted. we will also be live with chuck todd, moderator of nbc's "meet the press" after the break. plus, these children have a very special connection to the september 11th anniversary. we will share their story and how they are keeping the victims' memories alive, next on "nbc 10 news at 5:00."

vice president joe biden continues to struggle with whether or not he'll run for president. >> meantime, republican candidate chris christie is struggling to move up in the polls. >> joining us to provide insight is chuck todd, moderator of "meet the press." >> how much longer can biden wait before making a decision? >> realistically, not much longer. i think when you start looking, you know t drop dead deadline for him is somewhere around the 1st of november. believe it or not, there are some filing deadlines that to get on some primary ballots to qualify for delegates he would have to make by then that begin, believe it or not, as early as november. i think to put together the type of campaign he would need to defeat the clintons, i think he really only has until tehe end f this month. he needs to put an infrastructure together in the next couple of weeks if he wants to pull this off. >> talking about another candidate, the a.p. reporting that governor rick perry of texas is leaving the race. he's about to speak live in st.

louis. what have you heard about that? >> we have confirmed it. in fact, he is technically calling it a suspension of his campaign but yes, in fact he is indeed dropping out. look, this was something we saw coming. he couldn't pay salaries for staff members in some key early primary states, some agreed to stay with the campaign on a volunteer basis but the fact of the matter is, he was struggling to raise money even in his home state. look, he wasn't -- he's not alone here. all of the candidates that are attempting to run a second time, mike huckabee, rick santorum have struggled to gain traction, perry, rand paul, the son of a candidate who has run before, jeb bush, the brother and son. i think we have a republican electorate that is not interested in old. they want new, new, new. perry had other struggles too. i think he's the first victim of this we don't want any retreads.

give us something new. >> chuck, how about governor chris christie? he seems to be struggling, trying to pick up traction. is it part of the bridge scandal, you think in. >> oh, it's, look, he had a lot of challenges when he began his campaign. the bridge thing certainly hurt him with a lot of donors who had doubts about whether he could overcome it. throw in the fact he's just not conservative enough for maybe where this electorate is today. that said, i noticed a different chris christ nie in the last tw months. he looks like he's having a good time, he looks like the guy i covered when he ran for governor twice and was successful in new jersey. you know, i think he's got one shot at this, sort of seeing if he can break through. but i think we are getting into that mold where if it doesn't happen in the next six to eight weeks it may not happen. >> chuck todd, thank you for joining us. >> you got it. >> for more analysis on the race for the white house, be sure to

watch "meet the press" sunday at 10:30 a.m. right here on nbc 10. the new york stock exchange paid special tribute today to the 9/11 attacks. children born on september 11th, 2001 helped ring the opening bell as the trading day began. the children are part of a public service campaign to encourage people to do one good deed in honor of the 9/11 victims. we should note, workers at philadelphia international airport also came together to remember victims. michael nutter joined with them for the memorial event in terminal a this morning. the airport observes an annual solemn service to remember the victims who died on board aircraft in new york city, northern virginia and shanksville, pennsylvania. a montgomery township police k-9 officer will now wear a bulletproof vest made especially for dogs.

k-9 major was awarded the ballistic vest this morning by the nonprofit organization vested interest in k-9s inc. the charity has provided more than 1500 of these possibly life-saving vests to four-legged officers in 49 states. a boxing legend who called philadelphia home is set to be memorialized in bronze this weekend. the family of joe frazier is scheduled to unveil a 12 foot statue of the late heavyweight champion outside xfinity live tomorrow. the statue will depict frazier in mid-punch during the moment he knocked out mohammad ali in 1971. frazier was the first fighter to defeat ali. speaking of sports, it seemed like everything was lining up perfectly for serena williams, facing an unranked player in the u.s. open semifinals with history in her sights. >> it turned out she was ripe for the upset. amy fadool has more from comcast sports net. >> unfortunately, you are both

mainly because the ground's still wet from what we got yesterday. the lightning threat is higher than what we saw yesterday. the high winds threat is higher than what we saw yesterday. maybe a different kind of event tomorrow than we saw yesterday. the temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s. the high today was 83 degrees which is a little above average. the amount of rain was way above average last night. this is the radar estimate. anything in yellow or red is really, really heavy. you saw one bull's eye around dover. this is a real bull's eye south of philadelphia from the airport across the river. look at west deptford, six and a half inches of rain estimated by radar. the ground truth, pretty close. sewell, new jersey, nearly six inches. philadelphia airport, 6.77. that's the eighth wettest day in recorded history in philadelphia. the clouds moving out from yesterday's storms.

you can see them throughout. it was pretty significant, obviously. but not much of a break between that and the next thing that is coming. it's not a real big storm. we won't see that big circular motion like we saw with this last one. but it's enough to produce some showers and storms. tomorrow morning, we are likely to start off dry but even by the noon hour, we could be seeing some showers and storms developing. you see the yellow and red, locally heavy rain, downpours off of that wet weather we had yesterday, you can get localized flooding. then it moves out. it looks like most of sunday if not all of sunday is dry. we are mostly clear and nice tonight, 57 in the suburbs, 67 in the city. showers and storms mainly in the afternoon, could be midday thing, then on from there. upper 70s to low 80s. it's locally heavy and remember, less of a threat of any kind of showers on sunday.

nature paints a beautiful tribute in new york city. a rainbow emerging from the site of the world trade center. that rainbow appeared yesterday as the nation prepared to mark the september 11th attacks. >> as nbc's andrew siff reports, the resulting images inspired many across social media. >> i saw the most incredible rainbow i have ever seen out here. >> reporter: he saw it from his balcony window, high atop this long island city building. >> it was incredible. >> reporter: a burst of color seemingly spanning the city. >> going from world trade center to the upper east side. >> reporter: if a picture is worth 1,000 words, this one was worth hundreds of thousands of lights. >> it went viral. >> reporter: more than 300,000 saw on it the nbc new york facebook page after we asked them for permission to repost. >> as i saw the rainbow going all the way across, i took a panoramic shot. i don't do many panoramic shots.

motorcycle run down and thrown about 40 feet into the air. tonight a search is on for a hit and run driver who sent a chester police officer to the hospital today. this crash happened just before 3:00 at fourth street and ward, not far from the police department. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is joining us live from crozer hospital with an update on the officer and a description of the car that's wanted. randy? >> reporter: i have been talking with the police commissioner here in chester. he tells me the good news, the officer is expected to survive. it appears he was on duty at the time, on his police motorcycle, when he was blindsided, hit coming on and thrown some 30 or 40 feet off his motorcycle. that officer was rushed here to chester crozer medical center to be checked on. meantime, that suspect and his vehicle took off in another direction. let me show you the scene. this is along route 291 just across from the harrah's casino in that area. that road was shut down for awhile. heavy traffic delays. police say it appears that

officer was struck by an early model pontiac, maybe a year 2000, a grand prix, red color possibly with a green trunk or green hood. this officer is a 12 year veteran of the police force and as detectives search for that hit and run driver, we are told again he is expected to be okay. he coincidentally works for the accidents investigation division of the police department. he is being held here at chester crozer just for observation. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. to another developing story now. also in chester, we have learned a deadly shooting inside a home was connected to a child porn investigation. fbi agents killed the man inside this morning. nbc 10 was on the scene at 6:00 a.m. nbc 10's lauren mayk has worked this story all day. she is joining us live tonight from chester with the latest. >> reporter: good evening. things have gotten a little busier out here just within the last hour
