preparing for the pope. right now at 11:00, with just 12 dies go before pope francis arrives in philadelphia, the new sign showing that the pope's visit is really fast approaching. good morning. i'm vai sikahema. happening right now the archdiocese of philadelphia unveils a new look to welcome the pontiff during his visit. the world meeting of families starts a week from today and shortly there after, pope francis arrives. his presence has already raised safety concerns. nbc 10 he's jessica aguirre is live for us outside the basilica of peter and paul in center city tell us about the ceremony and

the wrapped up security. >> reporter: that ceremony you mentioned just getting under way behind me here outside the basilica, the archdiocese displaying ban whirls draw on the pope's message of unity, hope and love for the family. first banners will be hung outside the basilica, another 550 on display throughout philadelphia, making this the largest installation of banners since the republican national convention back in 2000. something else is going up around the city this morning, papal parking tollway signs from the police department. this is a map of the overall area that will be impacted but enforcement of the restrictions doesn't start until next wednesday. the spots closest to the art museum and ben franklin parkway will be first and then gradually spreading out to other parts of the city. if your vehicle is parked in this area on the map, it's got to be moved or it will be towed. police commanders say this is needed to construct the secure perimeter and fencing. the security is on the minds of many here in philadelphia and in washington, d.c. the chairman of the house homeland security committee says

track train in prospect park in delaware county this morning. amtrak officials tell us the acela train was heading from washington to new york when it hit the person at 7:30 this morning. skyforce10 over the scene, passengers transferred to a different train to continue their commute. a philadelphia police officer fired two shots this morning while searching for a robbery suspect. this happened around 6 a.m. near 15th and lehigh streets in north philadelphia. investigators tell us no one was hurt. officers did take one person into custody. and it is a picture-perfect monday, all throughout the area. a live look at citizens bank park, the phillies will begin a three-game series tonight against the visiting washington nationals. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist brittney shipp here with the forecast. >> great conditions today, nice and dry, lots of sunshine. our temperatures are starting off a bit cooler this morning but we are starting to push into the high 60s, 67 degrees in

woods near a home. police say he had a gun he refused to put down so they shot him, he died at the hospital a few hours ago. late last night, he killed trooper joseph cameron ponder after a traffic stop. >> we are just very thankful for the support that we have had from our local community, from our fellow law enforcement officers, madisonville and postville sent troopers here as well. i would say we are a very close tight-knit group and we are all brothers and sisters. >> trooper ponder had only been on the force since january. a series of wildfires has destroyed hundreds of homes and hundreds of thousands of acres near sacramento. as nbc's miguel almaguer shows us, the 50,000-acre fire is still spreading. >> reporter: it moved at speeds few have ever seen before. a wicked wall of flames turning

up in smoke. an epic fire season heating up and now, exploding out of control. >> that was nbc's miguel almaguer reporting and four firefighters are hurt already from this fire. zero percent contained and now the national guard is coming in to help. meanwhile, these pictures from arizona where powerful winds stirred up a major dust storm. the thick dust caused the national weather service to issue a blowing dust advisory yesterday evening. the storm was followed by a powerful lightning storm that knocked out power to some homes. and back to work, but still refusing to issue marriage licenses. we are talking about kim davis. she is the kentucky county clerk who was recently jamesed. davis stopped issuing licensing after the supreme court legalized gay marriage. the judge held her in contempt and ordered her to jail. while she was in jail, deputy clerks issued at least seven licenses to gay couples. some say they will continue to do that even though their boss,

davis, is back at work. >> make no mistake about it that if my deputy clerks who do not have my authorization or the authority, they don't have my authority to issue any license whatsoever. >> the governor, the attorney general and the county attorney have said the licenses issued by the deputies are valid. davis and her attorneys claim otherwise. for the first time ever, we are hearing exclusively from the former prison worker who admitted to helping two inmates escape from an upstate new york prison earlier this year. joyce mitchell was at the center of manhunt for prisoners, richard matt and david sweat. she is a former worker at the clinton correctional facility and admits to giving matt and sweat the tools that they needed to escape. the today show's matt lauer sat down with mitchell for an exclusive interview that aired earlier this morning. >> i'm not the monster that everybody thinks i am.

fantastic, a coastal look at your shore and beach forecast, expect temperatures today in the mid-70s, 76 degrees, by tuesday, 81, both days expected to stay sunny, our water temperature at 73 degrees. highs around the region today, mainly in the 70s, low 70s, pottstown, 72 in allentown, 66 in the poconos and we will see temperatures close to the mid-70s for atlantic city now, as we head into tomorrow, we will warm things up even more, you will see more 80s on the map, head back to 83 for philadelphia, which is above our average of 79. 82 will be the my wilmington and 81 in dover. 7-day forecast shows fall-like conditions today, warming up by tomorrow. then take a look at what we have in store for the rest of the week. lots of sunshine, warmer temperatures here to stay, at least for the next five days or so. and as we head into sunday, we drop back down to the low 80s. all right, thank you, brittney. a bucks county shah ripe is paying homage to a saint from our area.

pope is going to be here in less than two weeks, his trip coincides with the meeting of families in philadelphia. while he is a worldwide icon, few know of the patron saint of the world meeting of families. tracy davidson takes us to one parish hoping more families get introduced to st. gianna. >> god has given us this great saint to show us the path to sanctity and how to get our families right. >> reporter: bob white's mission is to tell people about the love of st. gianna honored by this shrine in nativity of our lord church in warminster. a pediatrician from milan, mother of four who is best known for her selfless love as a mother, when she was pregnant with her fourth child and a uterine tumor threatened her life and the life of the baby. >> before she went in to deliver that child, she told the surgeon, the doctor and her husband, if there's a choice between me and that child, i demand it, you save that child's life. >> reporter: a week after the giving birth to a healthy baby, gianna died but sin she was

canonized in 2004, people have plan been praying for her interception for healthy babies and lining up to touch her gloves, the relics of a saint which white takes to churches around the country. like little claire, very sick 4-year-old from bucks county with a suppressed immune system who dropped the gloves. >> her mother was horrified. claire, why did you drop that glove? mommy, that glove's too hot to touch. >> reporter: weeks later, claire who is now 16, a checkup with a doctor who had this news. >> no medical explanation for this but your daughter's blood work came back fine. there's nothing wrong with her. >> reporter: white says he could go on and on with prayers answered stories about st. xbreeian nah, hoping as parted of the world meeting of families, people pray for her intercession to strengthen her families, families he sees as broken. >> i feel drawn through god and st. gianna just to bring this message, hey that god is here, he does love us. >> reporter: st. gianna's son will be traveling from italy to be here for the world meeting of
