area, a new website has you covered. today the pennsylvania governor's office announced the launch of the papal 511 website, which will offer real time traffic conditions on highways in the philadelphia region and details on how to reach the papal venues, along with routes for bypassing the area. just click on the nbc 10 news app for a link to the website. and you actually don't have to wait 12 days to see pope francis in center city. you can see him now simply by looking up. the first of more than 550 banners showing a smiling francis went up today near the cathedral basilica. over the next ten days, workers will install three different kinds of banners throughout the city and there will be plenty of eyeballs to see them. a spokesperson says the week long convention has sold out. >> final registration numbers will be close to 20,000, three times the size of the last world meeting of families in milan in 2012. >> that's about 5,000 more than

they initially expected. she said the banners going up throughout the city represent unity, hope, and love for the families. we continue our pope coverage in our next half hour with a so-called unholy act. it's supposed to be free to see the pontiff when he comes to town, but some people are selling tickets online. the crackdown on scalpers still ahead. we continue to follow breaking news out of mississippi. a college campus there is on high alert after someone shot a professor to death on campus this morning. and the suspect, another university employee. it happened this morning on the campus of delta state university, that's in cleveland, mississippi, near the arkansas line there in the northwestern part of the state. now, the school has been tweeting out updates all day. just minutes ago, police held a news conference naming 45-year-old shannon lamb as a person of interest in the case. he is a current employee of delta state university. the coroner identified the victim as ethan schmidt, a history professor there. the university has told students

to shelter in place as law enforcement continues to search campus buildings for the shooter. authorities have not discussed a possible motive at this point. the university has cancelled classes for the rest of today and tonight. >> at this time we're not -- we don't think he's on campus, but we're not taking anything lightly, and at this time we're methodically going building to building to get the student ls out and let them leave and go home safely. >> and again, minutes ago they identified the suspect as a university employee named shannon lamb. we'll continue to follow this story and bring you updates on air and through the nbc 10 news app. well, that dramatic music means only one thing. we are now less than three hours from the moment that eagles fans have waited for for months now, the 2015 season opener is here. >> that's right. tonight the birds take on the falcons in atlanta and with nine new starters making their debut for the eagles, you can expect a

different look for chip kelly's team. >> comcast sportsnet's john clarke is live for us at the georgia dome. >> all eyes on sam bradford, who's making his debut tonight. >> reporter: absolutely, and i got to tell you, eagle fans are hyped. we just saw hundreds of them waiting outside the team hotel as the buses pulled out to come over here to the georgia dome. eagles fans are excited for this season, even though chip kelly made over the team, the eagles are one of the favorites in the nfc. take a look at the birds arriving here at the georgia dome and one of the big changes that was made, sam bradford is your new eagles quarterback, and he's going to be playing in his first game in 22 months. that is unbelievable. he has missed the last season and a half with two torn acls, but the good thing is, in training camp and the preseason, they didn't have to scale back at all with him. they didn't have to tailor anything towards those knees. everything is fine, and, in fact, he only appeared in four drives in the preseason, they scored touchdowns on all four of

parveen. sheena, more changes ahead in the forecast? >> it's going to stay cool the next several days. the mornings will be cool. if you like it on the cooler side, take advantage of tonight and tomorrow morning. tomorrow afternoon, look at the temperatures, though, the average high 79 degrees now, we're at 77 in philadelphia. northeast philly, as well, through the lehigh valley, mid 70s. 74 in allentown, 73 in pottstown, mid 70s in south jersey and delaware. very comfortable outside. the poconos only in the mid 60s. here's a live look at center city, completely clear skies. we have a lot of dry air in place and this is going to hang around overnight tonight. humidity really low, too, 28% humidity making it feel right around 77 degrees still. as we go through the overnight hours with this dry air in place, it's really going to help to cool things down. we're dry right now because of this big area of high pressure. it's really pulling in the cool air from the north, so this is going to hang around over the

next several days. really keeping us on the dry side. by 6:00 p.m. tonight, mid 70s, breezy and cool by 8:00 p.m., winds start to die out. low 70s, some areas in the upper 40s by tomorrow morning. we'll look at the cooler spots and warmup coming straight ahead. philadelphia police had linked a man arrested for robbing a deli to four other crimes. here's video of one of the crimes as it happened. the suspect grabbed a customer at the hoegie city deli and demanded money. the customer's own gun fell to the ground. the robber picked it up and fired it toward the man before fleeing. the customer was not hit. nigel brown, who lives in west philadelphia is charged with multiple robberies and related offenses. sky force 10 was over the scene of a deadly train incident this morning. amtrak officials tell us this

acela train was headed to washington from new york who hit a woman who was on the tracks. it appears to be an accident. right now there are no other details about the woman and why she was on the tracks, as officials are still notifying her family. we have new information now about a plane crash last week near atlantic city. it happened last thursday about 17 miles off the coast of atlantic city. the national transportation safety board now tells us that the wreckage from that crash was recovered over the weekend. the ntsb says that they sent the wreckage to a storage facility in delaware. a 68-year-old man, the pilot, was killed in the crash. the crash was the third deadly plane crash in new jersey last week alone. three crashes on saturday, a small plane crashed into a camden county backyard, killing the pilot. and last tuesday, a plane crashed in the northern part of new jersey. gunfire erupted in north philadelphia this morning as police attempted to serve a warrant. investigators say police fired two shots near a house on wesley

high avenue that was under investigation. authorities were looking for a suspect from an earlier robbery that happened nearby. the suspects allegedly barricaded themselves inside the house. none of the nine people inside, including children, were hurt. police eventually arrested that robbery suspect. and turning back now to tonight's highly anticipated ball game in atlanta, where the eagles are opening the season against the falcons. reporter tim furlong spoke to several businesses that are gearing up for the season and tim, you've also talked to one business that has a jersey insurance policy. tell us about that. >> yeah, they said think about when t.o. left philadelphia after two seasons, a lot of people burned his jersey, some of the cheaper people among us used tape and made them into jason avant jerseys. it was tough. i'm sure tonight here at stanley's tavern you're going to see lots of green around here, a

catholic and haverford leading. you can also vote online at nbc10.com. we head now to kentucky where a man accused in a fatal shooting of a state trooper is now did after a standoff with police. investigators say 25-year-old joseph johnson shanks, who you see right here, shot and killed trooper joseph ponder last night after shanks fled a traffic stop and chase. shanks then abruptly stopped his car and fired several shots into ponder's cruiser. ponder died at the hospital. state police found the suspect hiding in the woods near the crime scene. >> he refused verbal commands from our troopers to lower his weapon. trooper from the kentucky state police special response team shot mr. shanks. >> trooper ponder had been with the kentucky state patrol for just nine months. we continue to follow breaking news now. police say a coworker is a

person of interest in the on campus murder of a college professor in mississippi. >> major developments here. this shooting happened this morning at delta state university in cleveland, mississippi, near the arkansas line there. police just wrapped up a news conference a few minutes ago and lauren minks joinins us live no. what else did we learn about the shooting there? >> at this point authorities don't believe the shooter is still on campus, but they are still taking precautions. the campus was placed on lockdown and now officials are going building by building to get people out there. let me show you who they are still looking for. shannon lamb is considered a person of interest. he is an employee at delta state university. this university has about 4,000 students. they were told to take shelter today as the campus was placed on lockdown. the person killed is identified as professor ethan schmidt, who worked in the history department. the cleveland police chief says he was found in his office. the school's website identifies

shannon lamb the person of interest as a professor there, but it is unclear what the connection was, if any, between lamb and the professor who was killed. live in the digital operations center, i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. >> thank you, lauren. the kentucky clerk jailed for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses, we've been following this story, she's now back at work. >> still not granting licenses to gay couples after being released from jail, davis agreed to not interfere with anyone on her staff in obeying the supreme court's decision to legalize gay marriage and issue those licenses, but she says she doubts the licenses issued under those conditions are even valid. now one of her deputy clerks did issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple today, saying he will continue to do so in spite of his boss' objections. davis wants her name and title removed from the licenses her office issues. >> my name or title on a certificate that authorizes marriage that conflicts with god's definition of marriage as

a union between one man and one woman violates my deeply held religious convictions and conscience. for me, this would be a act of disobedience to my god. >> davis, who was an elected official and cannot be removed from office filed an appeal on friday trying to delay her office from issuing those same-sex marriage licenses. in ferguson, missouri, a panel is now calling for police to dramatically pull back on their use of military weapons in the wake of last year's riots. after ten months of study, the 16-member commission is also calling for sweeping changes in law enforcement. and in the way, demonstrators are treated. the conditions suggest the courts stop locking people up for minor offenses and that nonviolent offenses be treated as civil violations, not crimes. missouri's governor created the panel to pinpoint the racial issues that triggered last year's riots in the response to the death of michael brown. the unarmed 18 year old was shot dead by a white police officer

after a scuffle in august of last year. a grand jury decided not to indict that officer. the justice department found that wilson's use of force was reasonable and that he did not violate brown's civil rights. wildfires in california have now destroyed 135 houses. this happens as a separate wildfire 100 miles away continues to grow, as well. that fire is only 5% contained and firefighters aren't making much progress against the other northern california wildfires either, but there is some good news there, though. weather conditions are changing and that could bring some cooler weather with showers. they desperately need the rain by wednesday. >> and you see homes and buildings that are igniting on fire and you know you're powerless to try to save them all. >> and at least one person is confirmed killed in those fires. four firefighters have been injured. now to decision 2016.

we are getting in some new poll numbers from new hampshire and it turns out that donald trump is still maintaining the gop lead, according to a new monmouth university poll, nearly 3 in 10 new hampshire republican primary voters are backing donald trump as the next president. ben carson takes the second place spot, while john kasich is holding on to third. meanwhile, jeb bush has dropped from second place down to a tie for fifth. the top two democratic presidents are hitting college campuses today. hillary clinton spoke at a women for hillary event at the university of northern iowa, and for the first time she laid out her plan to fight the epidemic of sexual assault on college campuses. clinton's proposal includes a support network for survivors. meanwhile, bernie sanders took his progressive message to liberty university today. sanders spoke to a packed auditorium at the christian school in lynchburg, virginia. he acknowledged how his views on social and economic issues

differ with some in the crowd. he also stressed the importance of open civil discourse. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, a beautiful fall-like day today, a lot like what we had yesterday. temperatures really only in the 70s right now. take a look at center city, crystal clear skies. we have a lot of dry air in place and whenever we have this type of dry air, that means the overnight temperatures will be cool, so once again a very cool overnight hour for us, so even into tomorrow morning for the commute it's going to stay cool. dry stretch as we go through basically the end of the week and into your weekend. so we're not looking at any rain any time soon. then the 80-degree temperatures will return, especially as we get closer to your weekend, it's going to start to get warmer outside. right now, though, mid 70s through the lehigh valley, 74 allentown, 75 reading. philadelphia now coming in at 77 degrees, as well as bensalem.

trenton, mid 70s there, and much of south jersey and delaware still in the mid 70s. pretty uniform transformed for all under this cooler air mass. take a look at the eastern seaboard. we have temperatures mostly in the 70s, then you get into the southeast and you're looking at the mid 70s to low 80s. tampa coming in at 88 degrees with drier air, so really feels a lot like fall. big area of high pressure. this is what's going to take us dry through tonight, tomorrow, and the next several days. it's going to kind of meander around the area but really help to keep the clouds and the rain away. it's going to be sunny. sunny, dry stretch, certainly. take a look at the lows tonight, clear skies, cool temperatures, areas north and west could be in the upper 40s, philadelphia area upper 50s. south jersey or delaware, expect the mid to low 50s. i think the main areas that will be in the upper 40s, lehigh valley, some of the suburbs, so bethlehem could be at 49 degrees, allentown, same thing,

quakertown, and around these general areas, expect temperatures by the morning hours right around 50 degrees. for tomorrow afternoon it's going to be sunny, nice, low humidity again. temperatures anywhere from 80 to 83 degrees. so very pleasant. the average high 79 degrees, but still consider what we saw last week, going to feel comfortable, drier air sticks around through the rest of the week. take a look at the forecast, a lot of sunshine, no rain in the forecast either. going into the weekend it will stay warm, mid 80s, more humidity saturday. sunday we cool down a bit, 81 degrees, drier, but no rain any time soon. >> i think that we should offer our public servants at least a bathroom. >> no coffee, no restroom. coming up, why so many are sounding off about a starbucks barista in philadelphia, who allegedly denied access to the facilities because the person asking wasn't a paying customer.

a special reunion happened at the philadelphia international airport today. >> that's where a local soldier reunited with his best friend, his dog, of course. check out how excited military working dog hatty is to see her handler. hatty flew in from florida to spend her retirement with white. the two worked together in guam and have not seen each other for a year. the reunion was made possible by mission canine rescue and the u.s. war dogs association. hatty worked as an explosives detection dog, responding to

depending where someone sells passes to see the pope. you can find them for as low as $100 or as high as $5,000 for two. >> i think that's pretty ignorant. >> reporter: the mayor condemned those selling tickets to see the pontiff. >> how much are you looking for? $250 each, $1,000 for the four. >> we went undercover. >> what do i do, because your name is on them. >> they don't check the name. they just need to scan it. >> the nbc 10 investigators met this seller in cherry hill. she told us it's okay to sell the tickets even though the passes say transferred or sold tickets cannot be rehonored. >> this is the first time they are being sold. >> they are not checking i.d.s at the door, i can assure you. >> we met another seller down the street. he already sold papal mass tickets on ebay and offered us tickets for $75. >> world meeting of families, they were talking about on the news they don't want them sold.

>> they don't want them sold, but they also said there's nothing they can do about it. >> to be clear, what both these sellers are doing is legal, because they are in new jersey. here it is perfectly legal to resell tickets, even those you got for free, but in pennsylvania the law is different. >> it's illegal for a person without a license to sell tickets. >> philadelphia's district attorney says the law is designed to protect consumers. >> is this something that your office would actually prosecute or investigate? >> well, it depends on the scope. >> the scope has been huge on ebay and craigslist. ebay says selling free tickets is against its policy and is removing listings. we did find some listings being flagged. the world meeting of families sent a statement saying in part, scalping of tickets for papal events is shameful. >> not looking to make $500 or $1,000, i think it's ridiculous

indifferent. today, i visited that starbucks where it allegedly happened. >> so what he didn't buy a cup of coffee? he's a public servant, he needs a bathroom. >> there's no shortage of opinions brewing over this top controversy. a barista at a starbucks allegedly denied access to the restrooms to a philadelphia police sergeant in full uniform because he had not bought anything. >> just like anybody else, he should be a paying customer. >> reporter: word of the incident at the 13th and chestnut street starbucks went viral after this facebook post by a fellow police officer who knows the sergeant and shared his experience. the sergeant claims he even asked the barista a second time for the key code to use the bathroom, to which she replied "are you a paying customer?" >> in general, people have the right to say that it's for a paying customer. so that it doesn't get out of hand, but he's a public servant. >> reporter: kara, who owns the velvet lily boutique just a few

store fronts away from the starbucks is concerned about the message here. >> i think it's good business to offer public servants access to facilities when they need them. >> would you rather them urinate outside and pollute? >> reporter: starbucks has responded by insisting this will never happen again, while the sergeant has yet to speak on the matter, in the post he did write, "it's hip for this generation to berate and totally disrespect cops in front of the public and praise cop killers as the heros of their time." some say respect is a two-way street. >> the cops really have no respect for us around here. a lot of them disrespect us in a lot of ways. they expect respect back, well, you have to give it to get it. >> as you can see, a lot of mixed reaction we got out there. today when i went into that starbucks by myself, i asked for the key code to see what would happen, the barista working didn't hesitate to share it even though i didn't buy anything. also we did see some posts on facebook about the neighboring
