strangers from a man with a knife. >> you spoke to his girlfriend tonight. >> reporter: that's right. she tells me they had plans to get married but tonight she joined more than 100 people the mourn the man many are calling a hero. the courage of one man brought more than 100 people together. he traded his life to save two others. >> he did what most people wouldn't have the courage to do. >> reporter: she had dated him for nine months and were in the middle of plans to marry. she got the call she dreaded. >> i almost had a panic attack. i didn't want to believe it until i spoke to the detectives. i feel completely lost. >> reporter: family by blood or bond say they are not surprised he stopped the man. >> he went out as a true hero.

>> reporter: police arrested 25-year-old calvin hooker for the attack last night. witnesses pointed police in the right direction as they say hooker tried to get away on a bus. the murder suspect lived on the 500 block of new road. >> i was shocked that my neighbor would do something like that. >> reporter: and was a regular at the grocery store down the street. >> he had no emotion to his face. >> reporter: jackie recalls serving the man now accused of killing her childhood friend. she mourns like the rest of the community. >> he was always really good to everybody that he knew. >> reporter: the pain of ludsing her boyfriend could not stop her nor the others standing with her from honoring his memory. >> even though he's not here on earth she's stihe's still here >> reporter: police tell me this was a random unprovoked attack. calvin hooker is being held without bail. we have breaking news now. a man in critical condition

after she was shot in north philadelphia tonight. sky force ten live above the scene. police tell us the victim was shot in the abdomen and there's no word on any arrests. you see police vehicles there on the scene. just minutes ago more pictures from sky force 10 where two people are shot in west philadelphia about a block apart. one victim was found at 59th and irving street. both victims were taken topt hospital. no word on their conditions. suspects or a motive. nbc 10 is counting down to pope francis's arrival in philadelphia. we're now just 11 days away from the papal visit. we're learning more about an isis inspired not. a camden county teenager is under arrest. authorities say the 15-year-old had a detailed plan to attack the pope while in this country but they don't believe the teen had the resources to carry it

but suffering from hypothermia. they say they didn't take adequate steps to save her. he's not kexpected to atten the hearing. he's accused of misusing campaign funds. he denies all wrong doing. the government requested he be ordered to have no contact with witnesses. the congressman is married to nbc 10 anchor renee. she's reference in the complaint. she's labeled as person e. the feds allege she took part in a scheme to fraudulently sell car in order to pay closing costs on a vacation charge. renee is on leave from nbc 10. appeal will likely delay the corruption trial of new jersey senator for several months.

his trial is set for october 13th. his lawyers file a motion yesterday asking that be pushed back. prosecutors have indicated they won't oppose it. investigators in salem county say a construction crew may be to blame for what you see here, a fiery explosion that ripped apart a law office and apartment on the left. cell phone video shows flames devouring the video around 8:00 this morning. police say a crew working to install new gas lines may be to blame. it also tells firefighters responded here twice in the past few months for small gas leaks. officials say they're glad no one was hurt. >> think about the whole house filling up with gas and then exploding. looking at maybe a block. it would have been a lot worse. >> demolition crews spent the

health care. they say he lived nearby. caught on video. a homeless man beaten so bad he was left in a coma. three women accused in this attack have rejected plea deals. the women could have spent 7 to 14 years this prison if they pleaded guilty to charges including attempted murder. the district attorney's office says all three will face murder charges if the victim dies. police say the women beat limb because one of their children falsely said the man hit him. also new at 11:00, a philadelphia funeral director is fun but regulators say it's not because of the rotting corporations. she's being fined for practicing oen a lapse license. police found decomposing bodies in her feuneral heem garage. her funeral director's license is current but the license for the funeral home is not. save our kids was the

complicated to create. ncht it's been feeling like fall outside and it still does. some people in long sleeves. some short sleeves. you can still get away with wearing a light jacket if we go into tomorrow morning and we have even cooler changes as we go into part of your weekend. as far as the weather is concerned in the afternoon hours, it is getting warmer. today was warmer than yesterday and tomorrow will be warmer than today. warming trends will kopt. the average high is 78 degrees. yesterday we got to 77. you could get away with a light

jacket. sunny skies, mid-50s. we warm up to about the mid-80s by the afternoon. high pressure still in control. this is what's giving us so much sunshine and so much dry air. that's going to continue. no rain coming any time soon. the closest rain is down to florida. that's not going to move up here. we're going to keep this dry pattern going through the weekend. take a look at future weather here. high pressure is responsible for our nice weather. by thursday and even friday. it's still going to be hanging around. friday it will slide offshore a bit. that's going to bring our winds in from the south. by the weekend i think you will start to notice a little bit more humidity. nothing unbearable. humidity will increase all ahead of a cold front. that's going to swing through across the weekend. by sunday another area of high pressure moves in. this will give us cooler, breezy conditions just in time for the eagles game on sunday. speaking of cool and breezy, if

you didn't realize it one week from tomorrow is when fall starts officially on the calendar. also if you haven't noticed our daylight is getting shorter. by september 23rd when fall begins or sun will be setting before 7:00 p.m. our daylight hours certainly starting to shorten up especially as we get closer to winter. low temperatures tonight about the mid to low 50s. 61 for the low in philadelphia. about the mid-50s in some of our new jersey suburbs and tomorrow sunny, dry. a little warmer than today. temperatures in the mid-80s but still the perfect weather with low humidity. same thing thursday and friday. we stay really nice. same weather pretty much every day until the weekend. mid-80s saturday. a bit more humid. more clouds move through. that's because of the cold front. we expect it to say mostly dry. 80 for the high on sunday. a little breezy and we drop down into the upper 70s with morning lows in the 50s. >> perfect night for some

fishing. going to show you there's eagles back up mark sanchez tossing his line in the water. he and several other members of the birds were fishing with kids from the mid-atlantic youth ang anglers. it was probably a nice break to forget about last night as they focus on next week's match up. flyers are talking playoffs and the secondary is a primary concern for the eagles.
