6:01 pm
this stretches towards trenton, so we're still seeing a line of storms stretching along the major interstates here. not a great time of day, obviously, seeing heavy rain with so much traffic on the roads, but it is the heavy rain we're concerned about. that is some pretty heavy rainfall creating ponding water on the roadways. you want to take it slower this evening, the heavy rain is continuing to move in from the north and west, still some heavy rain, upper montgomery, chester county, as well, and we're going to see this moving towards the shore through the next couple hours in parts of delaware. all the pink shaded counties that you see, that's a severe thunderstorm watch until 8:00 tonight. there's still the chance for some of the storms to get strong enough to produce winds near 60 miles an hour, lightning, heavy rain, and potentially small hail. that's something we'll be tracking through the rest of the evening, but the big question, will it be clearing up for your friday night plans? brittney? >> we still have a few more hours, so we're not in the clear just yet.
6:02 pm

sunshine heading into tomorrow. we also want to point out some of the damage reports we're getting into our newsroom. we've seen wind gusts close to 60 miles per hour, that was strong enough for downed trees and also wires. this happened in chester county. closer look at montgomery county, another report of trees down, then again for chester county and east vincent, that's when we're seeing wires down and reports of more trees down. coming up we are going to be tracking how long the severe weather storms are going to stick around, details in about ten minutes. >> all right, brittney. meantime check out this lightning right here. nbc 10 viewer captured this along the pennsylvania turnpike just a short time ago. we're going to show you more photos of how the storm looks in your neighborhood coming up at 6:15. other news now, could be decision weekend for joe biden. the vice president is meeting with his family at his home in delaware and he could decide whether he will launch a presidential campaign. the choice he makes could break

6:19 pm
from newcastle county through new jersey, up through ocean county, up towards new york city now and where we're seeing the severe thunderstorm watch is mostly confined to new jersey. that's where thunderstorm watch has been cancelled for pennsylvania, but still goes to 8:00 for new jersey, potential for severe storms with heavy rain and possibly damaging winds. the reason why we have the rain is because a cold front's moving through, triggering the thunderstorms. look at the cool air off to our west, 50-degree temperatures there will be dropping into the 50s overnight, maybe the upper 40s for some. right now our temperatures a lot cooler than they were this afternoon. mid 60s through the lehigh vall valley, philadelphia still the 70s in new jersey and delaware, but these temperatures will be dropping for the weekend. 7:00 p.m. line of rain moves towards the jersey shore. delaware beaches by 9:00 p.m., then we start to see it clearing out closer to 10:00, 11:00 tonight. temperatures dropping overnight. by tomorrow morning, some areas will be in the 40s to start by the afternoon tomorrow, only

6:24 pm
this is the xfinity sports deck. >> good evening, i'm danny pommells from comcast sportsnet. eagles, saints 1:00 sunday at the link and the injury picture for the birds continues to look better. jason peters is listed as questionable with a quad injury. peters said thursday definitively that he would play on sunday. certainly sam bradford would be better off with his left tackle on the field. quarterback byron maxwell listed as probable, also says he'll be out there playing sunday, which is good news with the eagles facing drew brees, who love to air it out. whether he considers sunday a must win. >> i mean, i think every game is a must win, but i think this is a must win, what we're trying to do, you know, you look at the bigger picture, just morale, just getting things going. so yeah, it is a must win, in my opinion. but what game isn't?
6:25 pm
>> now, the aforementioned drew brees, the saints' qb, bit of an ailing shoulder, but he threw for two touchdowns against the touchdowns in the overtime victory sunday night here on nbc. chip kelly was asked if brees' accuracy makes him unblitzable. >> he's one of the all-time great quarterbacks to play in the league and i think he's so in tuned to what they are doing and he's so sharp in what they do. you listen to his work ethic and how much he studies and how much he works at the game and it makes it very, very difficult. i hope the answer isn't yes. we'll find out on sunday. well, here are the results of our high school football game of the week voting. it was a tight race with coming up at 11:00. that's your look at sports, i'm danny pommells from comcast sportsnet. we'll be right back.
6:29 pm
sheena, not finished with the storms yet. >> no, we're not finished with the storms. rain around right now, pretty heavy and moving through new jersey, also delaware. so for the areas that haven't seen the rain yet today, you're starting to see it and it is coming down pretty hard, especially across the expressway approaching atlantic county, so it is still raining in the philadelphia area, but you see the clearing north and west through the lehigh valley. that's going to continue moving in as we go overnight. so this line of showers and storms approaching the shore, i would say within the next hour or two, and then we'll see it all clearing out by about 10:00, 11:00 tonight. in the meantime, take your umbrella with you. temperatures are getting cooler, too. so if you are heading out tonight, i would say maybe the umbrella for the next couple of hours, but then with the cool temperatures you're going to want the jacket and the jacket through the weekend because we're going to see sunshine developing with temperatures in the mid 60s for both saturday and sunday. so nice changes from today, but we do have those wet roads out there. >> yeah, we do. hope things settle down soon. thanks, sheena. for all of us here at nbc 10,
