the star witness on the deadly twaeldead deadly 2012 is tax in benghazi is now testifying. here's a look where former secretary of state and democratic candidate hillary clinton is taking questions in the republican-led investigation about the attacks that killed four americans, including an ambassador. mrs. clinton left her washington, d.c. residence about an hour and a half ago. former president bill clinton was at the door to help see her off. tracie potts is live in washington with more on what could be a pivotal day for the former secretary of state.

hi, tracie. >> reporter: and a long one, too, vai. we've been monitoring this hearing since the beginning. we've been told to prepare for up to eight hours of questioning and, in fact, the republican chair of this committee said he's not going to shut down anyone, including who you're hearing here, elijah cummings as we look live at what's going on right now. he's been questioning secretary clinton about what he says are eight investigations that have already asked and answered every possible question. but the republicans in charge of this committee, well, they have a different opinion about that. trey gowdy the chair, who i just mentioned, earlier in his opening statement said those investigations were insufficient. they were incomplete. they did not have hillary clinton's e-mails. they did not have ambassador chris steven's e-mails. he was killed in benghazi and his e-mails just started coming out of the state department be request recently.

they will now be part of this hearing and for the first time lawmakers will get a chance to question hillary clinton about his security concerns at that mission in benghazi before this attack happened. gowdy has said he won't stop any of her answers so she may go on and on for a while, explaining what she believes is -- and what democrats have described here as a partisan witch-hunt. they believe that all of this has been done but that this committee led by republicans is specifically dragging everything out again, dragging out these e-mails in the middle of what for some time has been a very tense campaign. she's ahead now, but there have been comments that they've been doing this to try to drag down her poll numbers. she's now 25 points ahead of the next democrat, senator bernie sanders, but today she is in the hot seat answering questions about why there wasn't more security before this attack and why some of those requests didn't get to her desk we're

expecting to be here for quite some time. vai? >> thank you, tracie. we have breaking news out of iraq. a hostage rescue mission led to the death of one american according to an associated press source. u.s. sources tell nbc news a special forces team rescued a number of kurdish fighters being held captive by isis. sources report the iraqi government requested the rescue mission. the u.s. is the only force conducting operations in iraq with the capability to launch such a mission. and pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane is officially without a law license today. it was suspended at midnight. nbc 10's monique braxton is live in center city with more on what it means for the state's top law enforcement officer and her ability to do her job. monique, what can you tell us? >> reporter: hey, vai. all morning long we've been talking to politicians outside city council. today is the day the council meets.

we've been examining the state constitution to find out what could possibly happen to a.g. attorney kane. now -- attorney general kane, that is. she may be removed by legislative impeachment, by court action or by the governor and a two-thirds majority vote by the pennsylvania senate. kane vows to remain a.g. while fighting the perjury charge against her. governor rendell told us she should take a leave of absence while doing so. >> if i was advising her, i would have advised her to take a leave of absence and turn her duties over to one of her assistants. she's within her rights, she can run the office without going into court, she can't go into court when her license is suspended. >> reporter: governor wolf is also urging kane to step down. in the next half hour, we'll talk to a republican leader here at council who served for decades at the state level. we'll also continue to monitor developments in harrisburg: outside city hall, monique

braxton, nbc 10 news: state police are investigating a hit-and-run in delaware county that left one person hurt there. skyforce 10 was over the scene along route 202 in glen mills around 7:00 this morning. authorities have confirmed the car hit a person on a bicycle and took off after the accident. they are searching if the driver. no word on the victim's condition. troopers are at the hospital hoping to talk to that person as part of their investigation. a stray bullet hit a home in philadelphia's overbrook farms neighborhood. nbc 10 on brockton road around 1:30 this morning. shortly after a woman says she was awakened by breaking glass. she found a bullet had gone through a bedroom window in her home. no one was hurt and police are trying to figure out where that bullet came from. the a driver loses control and crashes into several parked cars in north philadelphia. the car came to a stop after hitting the front of a house near fourth and cambria streets.

there was only minor damage to the house and no reports of injuries. at least three vehicles on the block were damaged. no word on why the driver lost control. five men who allegedly took part in a fraternity hazing ritual that cold a new york city college student nearly two years rag facing murder charges. police charged those five fraternity members to third degree murder yesterday. they're set to be arraigned in an hour in the poconos. they're the last of 37 people charged in the death of jun michael deng. they are part of pi delta cy at baruch college. investigators say they knocked him conscious in a hazing ritual and then tried to cover up the death to cover up their actions.

investigators hope -- someone found jillian or are but yajanud in her home. investigators call the death suspicious though though they didn't explain why an autopsy will be performed later today. the family of a three-year-old found dead in haddon township are preparing for his viewing later today. that service will be private. meantime, the attorney for the boy's father is speaking out to nbc 10 after prosecutors revealed new evidence in the case. philadelphia-based attorney richard fuchino represents dj creato. the 22-year-old father was the last person to see his son brendan alive before putting him to bed october 12. camden county prosecutors say brendan creato was not sexually assaulted and there was no evidence of forced entry into the home. fuchino said investigators told him his client is not a suspect.

>> he is trying to answer the same question everyone is trying to answer but he has the added burden of already having gone through the loss. >> reporter: investigators are waiting for toxicology results. an autopsy on a cause of death came back inconclusive. congressman chaka fattah's son insists he's winning his fraud case as he continues to represent himself in federal court. the 32-year-old is accused of misusing money from business loans toly a lavish life and tax evasion. that trial is under way right now. at times during yesterday's court session there were heated exchanges between fattah, jr., and federal prosecutors. a former college roommate testified fattah didn't do much in college but eat pizza and watch tv. >> yeah, so did mark zuckerberg and bill gates. what's the problem? they're just continuing to try to lay out their weak case. not going so well. they have a team of people, two experienced people, you saw them blowing up in the courtroom.

fattah, jr., submitted letters from a client who gave his work high marks and says evidence proves he's a successful businessman. congre congressman shaka fattah, sr., is accused of misusing campaign funds and grant money. he denies wrongdoing. his trial is scheduled for next may. congressman fattah is married to renee chenault-fattah. she is referenced in the criminal complaint against her husband. she's labelled at "person e" and an affiliate of the fattah enterprise. the feds allege she took part in a scheme to fraudulently sell a car in order to pay closing costs on a vacation home. she is not charged and denies wrongdoing. renee is on leave from nbc 10. setpta police say they want to talk to both fans involved in this post-eagles game fight. you can see the punch thrown the

out of time. the time necessary to mount a winning campaign for the nomination. >> reporter: recent national polls showed biden a distant third behind hillary clinton and bernie sanders for the democratic not. and donald trump seems happy biden is out of the picture. he tweeted "i think joe biden made the correct decision for him and his family." the tweet went on to say "personally i would rather run against hillary because her record is so bad." a group of conservative republicans in congress say they generally support paul ryan for speaker of the house but they aren't prepared to actually endorse him. last night 70% of house freedom caucus members agreed to the endorsement but the group's rules say they must reach 80% to make it official. ryan has said his pursuit of the speaker position comes with conditions, including formal endorsement from the freedom caucus. the gop leadership will vote for the next speaker a week from today.

meanwhile, president obama will veto a $612 billion defense bill. the president objects to how the measure is funded. it would increase defense spending by adding $38 billion to a separate war fighting account. the white house calls that a funding gimmick. president obama disapproves of provisions in the bill that would complicated the prose your of the u.s. detention center at guatemala, cuba. also happening today in washington, philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey and more than 100 law enforcement leaders from across the country will meet with president obama. they're part of a new coalition to reduce crime and incarceration and they're pushing lawmakers for three things -- alternatives to arrests, reducing the number of criminal laws and ending mandatory minimum prison sentences. more than two million people are in u.s. prisons. that's more than any other country in the world.

strong winds, heavy rain and hail made driving dangerous in southern new mexico. flooding remains a concern in southern portions of that state as severe storms swept through the area. at least another half inch of rain was expected for albuquerque this morning. good morning, we'll see one more warm day, unseasonably warm for us, about 10 degrees above average. it will be short lived, we'll see temperatures dropping into tomorrow. they'll stay cooler into the weekend and i'm also tracking a chance of weekend showers. a closer look outside right now in philadelphia, 63 degrees, our humidity is at 65%. our wind speeds out of the west/southwest at eight miles per hour. not too bad out there. across the rest of the region, 64 in the poconos, 70 in wildwood, 69 at the atlantic

city airport and temperatures in dover this morning at 66 degrees. so a mild start, it will be nice and comfortable, low humidity levels and that cold air that was over us over the past couple of days with the exception will stay far to the north and we'll see cool and more mild air settling in over us as we head into the rest of today and into tomorrow. you'll notice cold air starts to filter in, a cold front will move through that will help drop temperatures down about ten degrees between today and tomorrow, even more than that in a few locations so here's how it will break down. we're ten degrees above average. we drop all the way down for 62 as we head into tomorrow we stay around average as we push into the weekend. so the 60s are back and they are here to stay. our satellite radar shot shows we'll see lots of sunshine, maybe a few little clouds moving in. most cloudy conditions are closer to the poconos right now

where we're seeing light sprinkles but, again, high pressure is in control, we have warmer weather that's right over us for today so one more warm day and the cold front moves through. that will allow this colder air to move in and that is why we'll see temperatures dropping, breezy conditions associated with the cold front and it will start us off on the cold side of things as we head into the weekend. a chilly weekend start on tap for you, temperatures in the 30s and 40s on saturday morning and then by sunday that's when we track a slight chance of showers. your highs around the region today will be mild and sunny, same thing for pottstown and allentown. 60s for the poconos and low 70s for wild wood. take a look at the difference a day makes. as we head into tomorrow, a big drop in temperatures. you'll mainly notice 60s on the map for us. 64 will be the high in wilmington. that's a big difference from what we'll see today between 47 and 77.

law license prevents her from any involvement in the criminal and civil cases her office oversees but kane says 98% of her duties are managerial and don't involve legal decisions but we have learn shed may be removed by legislative impeachment, by court action or by the governor and a two-thirds majority vote by the senate. governor rendell told us kane should take a leave of absence while fighting the allegations and charges. we asked council person dennis o'brien, a former state rep and speaker of the house about the ramifications of this suspension, albeit temporary. >> do you think she should step down? >> i believe she should. i believe that the issues that surround this compromise the integrity of the criminal justice system at its court. people have to believe that judges and prosecutors, public defenders and everyone involved in the system have the highest level of integrity and character. >> reporter: council person o'brien also told us he thinks

degrees. if you're closer to south jersey 65 and mount holly 69 at the atlantic city airport and as we go into the afternoon we'll see one more warm day. by noon, by the time you head out to lunch, temperatures close to 70 degrees. 74 toms river and a closer look in the afternoon hours, everyone pushing into the mid-70s which is 10 degrees above average so we have cool air in place but we are going to see that cold air nudging south a bit so it will be over the philadelphia areas as early as tomorrow. so expect temperatures to drop down to the low 60s with a cold front moving through. slooit radar shows us we have a few clouds that are streaming into parts of the lehigh valley, also into the poconos and as we go into the rest of today, we'll see unseasonably warm conditions but i am tracking dropping temperatures and the chance of weekend showers. i'll let you know what to expect as we get closer to the week end

in my full seven-day forecast. vai? >> see you then, brittney. police make an arrest in the case of road rage that left a new mexico girl dead. police say an anonymous call and other tips helped find him and take him into custody. miguel al mare gar has more. >> reporter: the news came with this tweet. tony torres charged with the murder of four-year-old ileana garcia left than 48 hours after her death. >> the albuquerque police department detectives took into custody tony torrez, aged 32, who confessed to the murder of little lily garcia. >> reporter: lily was fatally shot tuesday on this highway in what police are calling an act of road rage. >> single gunshot wound to the back of the head, conscious female, in and out. >> reporter: lily was riding in this pickup truck with her father and seven-year-old brother after school when an altercation led torrez to allegedly pull out a gun and fire at the garcia truck while driving on the highway.

>> reporter: the father, recognizing that he did, in fact, hear shots saw that his daughter was bleeding, pulled to the hedge of the road and tried to administer first aid. >> reporter: the only one hit by the gunfire, lily later died at the hospital. according to the national highway safety administration, 66% of traffic deaths are caused by aggressive driving, 37% involve a firearm. lily's family thankful for the tremendous support pouring in on social media and online. her mother veronica writing "your help, comfort and compassion during this most difficult time is greatly appreciated." and from her father, "she was the light of my life and my little girl showed me how to truly love." a family grateful as they grieve. >> that was nbc's miguel almaguer reporting. torrez is charged with multiple crimes and is being held on

$650,000 cash only bond. inve investigators say a security camera captured video just moments before a suspect shot and killed a new york city police officer. a camera in harlem shows what appears to be tyrone howard riding a stolen bike until the minutes before the shooting. police say howard fired at least one shot which killed officer randolph holder. howard was also injured in the exchange of gunfire. he was treated for his injuries and arrested. howard was arraigned wednesday night for officer holder's murder and other crimes. firefighters saluted the police motorcade as it escorted officer holder to a manhattan funeral home yesterday. funeral services are set for next week. officer holder's family members say he was a loving and easy going man. >> i just wanted to be here for this man. he delivered his duties diligently. >> reporter: his father says officer holder was going to be

promoted to detective and was about to close on a new house. he'll be buried in his native guyana. police in albuquerque, new mexico, have a suspect who they say critically injured a police officer. according to authorities, he shot the officer in the head and neck during a routine traffic stop. the officer underwent several surgeries. the police department hasn't released his or her identity or condition. a masked swordsman carried out a deadly attack on a sweetish school. the attacker killed one student and one teacher and seriously injured another student before police shot him. police say the attacker is in his 20s and was not enrolled at the school. authorities say he's in serious condition. swedish media reports the school had just held a meeting earlier this morning to discuss teacher worries that the school was not secure enough. secretary of state john kerry and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu are calling

for an immediate end to the inciting words that have been blamed for a recent deadly wave of palestinian attacks against israelis. the two met for talks in berlin today. netanyahu repeated earlier accusations that palestinian president mahmoud abbas is "spreading lies about israel and the status of a holy site at the center of the tensions." >> it's time the international community told president abbas to stop the incitement and hold him accountable for his words. >> kerry will meet with abbas in jordan this saturday. in the west bank, forces are stepping up security ahead of a religious pilgrimage planned for this weekend. they built a concrete burial outside of rachel's tomb. thousands are expected to visit amid a wave of violence. st. louis authorities are

second hand smoke may not bad for young lungs, it could also be harmful to children's teeth. japanese research links exposure to second-hand smoke with an increased risk of cavities in young children. those exposed to tobacco smoke at four months old were twice as likely to have a cavity by the age of three than children living in a non-smoking home. this was an observational study, meaning it does not prove smoke exposure causes cavities. a new study suggests children who regularly use antibiotics may gain weight faster than those who have never taken the drugs. the australian study found children who had been prescribed antibiotics seven more more times weighed an average of three pounds more by the age of 15 than children who had never taken antibiotics. researchers say the drugs may wipe out the healthy bacteria in the body, leading to permanent changes in how food is absorbed.

a little bit of a different formulation and everyone should get vaccinated against the flu from six months and up. >> let's talk about the vaccines that are available and as you said, how effective are they? last year didn't seem to be so effective, or am i wrong? >> well, vaccines every year are somewhat of a guess as to which will be the most predominant strain so the cdc usually does a good job in figuring that out ahead of time. last year there was a miss on one of the components of the flu vaccine, but still it's getter to bet a flu vaccine than not to get one. >> i guess like maybe a lot of bad news you hear, the strain wasn't so effective and we think that was in effective. tell us about the flu shots this year. are we wasting our time? i'm one of those people that sometimes i get -- you know, i had one bad experience and then i didn't get the flu shot but last year i got it. >> good. >> but you should get one -- get the shot every year? >> right. more people actually die from the flu than many of the other

communicable diseases we have in this country. it doesn't get press but it's important to get a flu vaccine for many reasons. one is because if you get a case of the flu, then you tend to spread it around so it's important during the flu season for everybody to be washing their hands to make sure they're not spreading it. what's a little new and different in truck in seen there's different formulations so people over the age of 65 should be getting the high dose flu vaccine which is extremely effective and gives them immunity for a longer period of time and then for people in our age group, absolutely. if you've had a case of the flu -- and i got a case of the flu last year -- it laysout out for a couple of weeks and it can be dangerous and there could be side effects so it's safer to get a vaccine than not. >> you don't the flu now? >> i do not. >> and i don't either so we should shake hands. we have you on the calendar every year so we thank you to talk about this important issue. thank you very much, cheryl. >> thank you. the "today" show's cheery furry four legged friend

will be short lived. we'll drop back down to the low 60s by tomorrow. i'm tracking a chance of weekend showers but a live look, you can barely see clouds. lots of sunshine for us on this thursday. temperatures at 63. our humidity is at 63% and light wind speeds right now. across the rest of the region, 64 in the poconos, 26 in wilmington. 66 in dover. 72 in wild pood. temperatures close to 70 already at the atlantic city airport. 67 in millville. so we have cool and mild air sitting over our region but take a look at what will happen from thursday into friday. you'll notice the cold air moving in from the north and it's going to settle over us as we sbush the rest of the weekend so expect cooler temperatures. we've been well above average so one more warm day on tap for us. then we'll see the cold front moving through that will help relieve the cold air from the north that comes in over philadelphia heading into tomorrow and lingering into the weekend and most of next week. that will set us up for a chilly weekend start so saturday

morning temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s to start off the day. we will, however, sboorm the 60s on saturday and sunday. but a closer look at our satellite radar shot shows mostly cloudy skies, a few more clouds moving into the lehigh valley and into the poconos. one thing we want to point out is it will be a breezy evening ahead. you'll see wind gusts to 23 miles per hour as the cold front makes its way through. we'll see wind gusts up to 31 miles per hour in places like mount pocono. that will linger into our overnight hours and as you you head back to work tomorrow so it will feel colder tomorrow than what we're seeing today with the cold northerly wind moving in. so a closer look at our sunday sprinkle. saturday we stay nice and dry but sunday overnight heading into your early morning hours. by 8:00 a.m. we could see sprinkles moving into the lehigh valley and into the poconos. maybe another round closer to 5:00 p.m. again, these are sprinkles, maybe a tenth of an inch and

that's going to affect lancaster county to the lehigh valley. as far as highs around the region today, we will stay in the mid-70s which will be nice, mild and sunny expected for us. mid-70s for allentown, high 60s for the pocono bus a big drop as we head into tomorrow. you'll notice the wind direction shifts out of the north and we have that cold wind coming in and temperatures will stay mainly in the low 60s as we end your work week. as far as today, nice and warm, temperatures between 74 and 77 degrees. but, again, you'll notice that cold front comes in and drops our temperatures so your seven-day forecast shows that we have a big drop on the way, about 12 degrees between today and tomorrow. we stay in the mid-60s for saturday, we track a chance of sprinkles sunday morning and then by monday we drop into the mid- -- the low 60s, i should say, with partly sunny skies. stay with us. you're watching nbc 10 news. vince mazzeo-

fighting to save atlantic county. chris brown's attacks? the press calls them "embarrassing" political "posturing." the truth? chris brown and will pauls opposed the atlantic city rescue plan, even though it would save thousands of our jobs. we already know they're propped up by north jersey casino interests. and pauls even wanted the vote to allow north jersey casinos "this year." now they brag about helping atlantic county.

but there's a word for politicians like that. hypocrite. former secretary of state hillary clinton is continuing her testimony before a u.s. house committee investigating the deadly 2012 attacks in benghazi. now, clinton told the house committee there were no denials of support from washington or from the u.s. military during the attack. she's calling for transparency in the investigation which critics say is a partisan attempt to undermine her presidential campaign.

in his opening statement, committee chairman trey gowdy told clinton the investigation is not about her but the four men who died.
