good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today" on this friday. i'm chris cato. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley and his first alert forecast. bill, nice out there this morning. >> beautiful start. our skies are clear, the temperatures are mild this morning. 50s and low 60s. 61 degrees in philadelphia international. cooler spots allentown, the poconos running cooler than everyone else. we'll see sunshine it's going to be a breezy and cool day. the temperatures are falling. 6:00, 54. that's where we'll be at 9:00, then 58 degrees at noon time back in the low 60s this afternoon. nowhere near the warm-up we saw yesterday when we hit 77 degrees. i'll have your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back. jessica boyington is watching friday morning traffic. jessica. >> and bill, we're dealing with the vine street expressway closure now. this will be out there until about 5:00 a.m. from the cameras at the schuylkill right approaching the vine street expressway you can see some vehicles here, they are

blocking off the on ramps to get to the vine street expressway. it's closed now. between the schuylkill and broad street. watch for that. that will be out there the next hour or so. the entire week cleaning up early. heading through center city this is cleared out of the way by 4:00 a.m. so watch for crews in the area on the ben franklin parkway eastbound between 22nd and logan square, the inner and outer drives are closed and blocked off with police activity. let's look at the rest of our drive times. the philadelphia area, no problems so far heading into the center city area on 95 and the schuylkill expressway. the blue route is okay with 15 minutes, southbound from the schuylkill to 95. >> we're following a couple of developing stories, first breaking yom overnight a shooting on a college campus in tennessee left one man dead and two students injured. this video is just in minutes ago. it happened last night at tennessee state university in nashville. police say people on campus got into a fight over a dice game,

someone fired shots, police say the man who died was not a student. the two people who were injured are students. no word on their condition, no word if the shooter has been arrested. the campus was still on lockdown as of 2:00 this morning. we're going to continue checking in with our affiliate in nashville to bring you updates on this throughout the morning. we have new information now on a police chase in philadelphia that injured two officers and two other people. sky force 10 flew over the scene in west philadelphia, this is where the chase ended with a crash. here is video from the ground and you can see the cruiser up there. around 10:00 p.m. officers tried to pull over a cadillac for dark tinted windows. the driver took off, it t-boned a police suv, it jumped a curb and hit a house. a witness captured this video. you see there to help their fellow injured officer.

>> coming up at least doing 80 miles per hour plus, trying to stop this guy, didn't want to stop. hit the cop head on. the cops jump out of the car, the guys there, the police officer in the car, they were pretty banged up pretty bad. >> police say the officers that were in the suv have head injuries but should be okay. they are in stable condition. the suspected driver is also stable. he has a female passenger in the car who was taken to the hospital. we don't know her condition. police say they found what appears to be marijuana in the car. new from overnight a philadelphia police officer on his way home from work was involved in this crash in the fish town section of the city. it happened just after midnight. the officer had minor injuries, he is expected to be okay. no one else was hurt and no word on what caused the crash. >> it is sentencing day for the heavy machinery operator who pleaded guilty in the 2013 center city building collapse

that killed six people and injured more than a dozen. nbc 10's rosemary connors is live for us in the digital operations center with what kind of sentence is expected to be handed down today. >> chris, the man at the center of today's sentencing is 44-year-old shawn beensscott. he pleaded guilty in exchange prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of no more than 10 to 20 years in prison. authorities say that benscott was high on painkillers and marijuana when the wall collapsed on the salvation army store at 22nd and market streets burying the victims in the rubble. he is a native of guyana. he has an eighth grade education and a father to six children. according to prosecutors he had been warned previously not to use machinery to demolish an unsupported wall, instead to take it down brick by brick. earlier this week a jury convicted contractor griffin campbell for his role in the collapse, that happened again as i mentioned earlier this week on

monday. he was found guilty on six counts of involuntary manslaughter. campbell describes himself as the scapegoat for the architect who oversaw the project. prosecutors say that campbell, he was the one who controlled the work site. new legislation issing proposed in philadelphia to help prevent future disasters like the deadly collapse on market street. according to our partners, a council man has introduced a bill that would impose civil litigation against contractors who fail to report unsafe conditions on a demolition site. that's something they are not required to do right now. reporting live in the nbc 10 digital operations center, rosemary connors, "nbc 10 news." back to you. >> 4:06 now. we have new information in the murder of a newlywed. strangled in her home in the lehigh valley. authorities say her husband has confessed to the crime. police say gordon rorback admitted to killing his estranged wife in her apartment

on wednesday. her mother found her dead wednesday morning. investigators say rorback strangled his wife, stuffed a sock in her mouth and taped it shut. the couple had just been married in july and recently separated. >> crazy. i mean, what's the whole point of getting married when you're going to kill your wife. >> rorback is now in police custody facing homicide charges. >> investigators are now trying to arrange an interview with this giants fan here in the red manning jersey. an eagles fan beat him up after monday night's game in philadelphia. septa police say they identified the giants fan through surveillance video which shows that fan animatedly trash talking with a group of eagle fans for several minutes before the one bird fan clocked him. >> four out of five fraternity brothers from new york are home after posting bail. they were arraigned on murder charges accused of killing another student in a hazing

incident in the pocono mountains two years ago. police say that the members physically abused michael chun deng, police say they tried to cover up the abuse. a magistrate set bail at 500,000 disorders and 150,000 for the fifth. all but one posted bond. lawyers call deng's death a tragedy but their clients did not intend to kill him. the fraternity itself is also charged with murder along with 32 others facing less serious charges. >> from trenton bureau, voting to override chris christie's veto on a gun control bill. >> i will not ask you again. >> tensions flared yesterday with some lawmakers exchanging bitter words over the bill it's designed to alert police if prospective gun buyers seek to

expunge their mental health records. they need today with 7 votes to override. the deal needs to gain two thirds majority in the assembly to take effect. >> perfect. that is the record right now for temple's football team. something at this point in history that has never happened before. the owls meet history last night beating east carolina for theirs first 7-0 start in school history. it was an away game so they gathered to watch the game. the school band was there. temple scored 14 in the fourth quarter to rally 24-14. >> everyone is excited for that. just a lot of good energy, everyone is excited. >> it's great especially because temple hasn't been on top in a long time. it's great to see. i love it. >> what a season. the owls were trailing at halftime but the defense stepped

>> breaking news coming out of france. at least 42 people were killed in a bus crash in southwest france. it appears to be a group of tourists. it happened early this morning.

most of those killed we're told are elderly tourists. police say the bus collided with a truck and then caught fire. some people managed to escape by breaking windows. again, 42 killed. we'll continue finding out more information on this breaking news out of france as the morning progresses. z >> 11 hours in the hot seat. former secretary of state and presidential front-runner hillary clinton answered questions about benghazi. steve handelsman breaks down what happened during her testimony. >> reporter: hillary clinton stayed cool at the marathon 11-hour hearing as republicans again charged she tried to cover up the terrorist attack on 9/11, 2012. >> you knew the truth. that's not what the american people got. >> reporter: she denied cover-up. >> there was a lot of conflicting information that we were trying to make sense of. >> reporter: clinton did get emotion alwhen she told

forces and five choppers landed near an isis prison thursday morning, the raid was supposed to rescue kurdish hostages about to be executed. kurdish troops stormed in but isis guards fought back. u.s. troops desided to go in, 15 guards were killed but not before the american commando was shot and killed. >> new information this morning about the motive behind a deadly attack at a school in sweden. police say the attack was racially motivated. many students thought the attacker was playing a halloween prank because he was wearing a military style helmet with a black mask and sword. a teacher and a student died. another teacher and student were stabbed but survived. happening today lincoln chafee says he will address the quote future of his campaign, the former rhode island governor and senator tweeted that yesterday. he is speaking today at a forum. he has had trouble gaining

traction against hillary clinton and bernie sanders. earlier this week former virginia senator jim webb announced he was ending his campaign. and this is now official. paul ryan announced last night that he is running for speaker of the house. the wisconsin representative sent a let esh to members of the house republican conference informing him of his candidacy. the memo is ryan's rallying cry for a more unified gop under his leadership. >> now it's time to talk about our old winter friend snow. new high tech equipment will help plow the roads. removal tracking technology is what they call this. it will be installed on 700 of the state's plow trucks, they will be outknitted with automated vehicle location devices and have access to real time information, to track plow routes, vehicle movement and usage materials. officials say the increased data will be a huge money saver for

the state. penndot plans to make the data available to the public later this year. you can track snow plows at home. here's the part i'm going to introduce meteorologist bill henley. i'll say something probably linking that winter weather to today's weather like this. bill, thank goodness there is no snow out there this morning. >> well done, chris. didn't feel scripted at all. 4:20. we're getting a mild start, no sign of winter this morning. not even close. the temperatures are in the 50s and low 60s. nice clear view of center city. 61 at philadelphia international. the normal high temperatures just a few degrees above where we are now. we should be in the 40s this time of year. the temperature is still falling now. we have clear skies for the entire area now. clouds are clearing out at the shore, they passed by dry for the cape may area, a nice close-up of that dry beach avenue. the wind is the key to our weather today. a last few days a nice southwest

breeze that helped to boost our temperatures. look at this. it's coming out of the north now to 13 miles an hour in philadelphia. 14-mile-an-hour breeze in trenton. that's not going to bring us a winter chill but keep temperatures much lower. yesterday, 77 degrees, will not be repeating. clouds, they are moving out. there is another round of clouds we're watching move toward our area, there it is. this is a large storm extended into canada, down to texas. and behind those clouds are showers and some thunderstorms. i don't expect we'll get thunderstorms but we'll see some of this wet weather arrive over the weekend. today stays well to our west. affects the ohio valley, tomorrow night, saturday night, there it is. moving into northwestern pennsylvania, due in here sunday morning. for today, though, skies will stay clear. sunshine will be bright. we'll cool down into the 50s and we'll slowly march back toward the low 60s this afternoon. and low 60s is what we'll warm to on saturday after a chilly

morning, 30s and 40s to start. then the chance of showers on sunday. most likely for the morning. and not wintry precipitation chris, just rain showers this time around. >> thank you for circling back to the snow plow story. 4:22 and no snow plows on the road. hopefully you'll not encounter construction. nbc 10's jessica boyington has a look at route 73. >> route 73 in berlin, new jersey. what kind of used to be the berlin circle in this area, cars here that are making a left-hand turn headed northbound, so headed to the tacony palmyra bridge. quite a ways away but checked in with the tacony palmyra bridge as well, no scheduled openings so if you are heading in that direction no real problems on the length of route 73. on the new jersey turnpike watch for construction on the northbound side between route 73 which is around exit 4 and burlington and mount holly around exit 5. we have two lanes closed until about 6:00 a.m.

you may not be aware but the month of october marks the beginning of flu season. influenza is also highly preventible making a visit to a vac teen clinic a good idea this weekend. more than 200,000 people are hospitalized with the flu every year. a big public health push has helped increase vaccination rates. according to centers for disease control about 44% of american adults and 59% of kids get the flu shot. those vaccinations have to be done every year to help prevent recurrence. >> if you had a case of the flu and i got a case last year, it raelt takes you out for a couple weeks. it can be dangerous and side effects, it's safer to get a vaccine than not to get a vaccine. >> it is serious.
