injured after this confrontation outside a local high school. good evening, everyone. i'm jim rosenfield. >> i'm jacqueline london. police say the fight happened after school this afternoon. he lie bureau reporter randy gyllenhaal reports. this is a huge fight. what happened out there? >> 100 maybe even 200 students, and police tell us four of their officers were injured in this brawl that took place outside of allen high school in the city of adentown. they were responding to this large group of students who detectives say were actually fighting in the street. they responded to this call. and this cell phone video was posted to social media today. you can see the melee happening just as school got out. a lot of the students were wearing backpacks. police tried to break the fight up. but sources say the officer quickly became the targets of these students. police tell us the officers were attacked, two of them had minor injuries, two other allentown

police officers had more serious injuries. at one point a female officer was actually taken to the ground and a teenager began hitting her. take a look. >> [ bleep ]. >> reporter: so police are telling us that three juveniles were taken into custody and charged in this fight. they're hopes to find other videos posted to facebook or snapchat to help identify suspects. the officers involved, four of them injured, have all been released from the hospital. live in the dinl ittal operations center, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. and a man is recovering tonight after he was shot at an atlantic county football field. he was in the bleachers and hit by a bullet fired across the street. it happened at the football field in pleasantville. so far no arrests.

trouble on board an american airlines flight bound for philadelphia. a passenger will face charges after police say he caused the plane to be diverted today. the flight took off from los angeles to philadelphia around 8:30 this morning, but it had to land in phoenix after the passenger refused to take his seat. officers took him off the plane in phoenix, the plane refruled, then left for philadelphia around noontime. the police took the passenger to a hospital for a psychological evaluation. tmz has posted this video taken by another passenger inside the plane. you're going to see the suspect coming up here with his hands raised. there he is. as homeland security officers remove him from the flight. ft. lauderdale's airport's back open tonight after that plane you see there caught fire just before takeoff. passengers on board another flight recorded this video from above. you can see the plane surrounded by foam. the crews used to put out the flames. an engine caught fire while the dynamic international airways flight was getting set to take off to venezuela. one passenger was seriously

burned. about a dozen others are nursing minor injuries from sliding down chutes during the evacuation. >> what goes through your mind is, i mean, this is going to consume in two seconds. >> federal investigators are at the airport tonight looking into the plane fire. the army took aim at what's left of a runaway military blimp that ended up in a wooded area of north-central pennsylvania. military crews firing shotguns there at the crippled blimp to deflate the giant aircraft. the army's air and missile defense command say they were able to find all the specialized radar equipment on board. the rough terrain means it could be days or even weeks before they get it out. >> the thing is it's big, it's big and we're in really rough terrain. it's a v-shaped ravine full of trees with a stream running right through it. >> they've been able to remove

philadelphia mayor john street to the stand. he opened his case with testimony from governor ed rendell. both rendell and john street hired him as a photography consultant during campaigns. chaka fattah jr. is accused of bank and tax fraud. he's the son of congressman chaka fattah who is married to anchor renee chenault-fattah. jerry sandusky is back in court today on the grounds that he had ineffective trial and was rushed to trial. the judge ordered attorney kathleen kane to turn over documents. kane's office says she will comply. sandusky is currently serving 30 to 60 years in state prison after being convicted in 2012 of 45 counts of child sexual abuse. an investigation is under way in philadelphia into a month-long spree of robbery stores. philadelphia police have released this footage of cell

phone robbery source. officials say stores were hit between july 1st and october 26th. each of the incidents include similar circumstances with one or more suspects flashing a weapon and demanding money and electronics. >> tonight jobs are on the line and that's all because of pennsylvania budget battle. the state has gone nearly four months without a budget. >> now a group that helps seniors is being forced to cut back on services. as nbc 10's lauren make reports, more trouble could be on the horizon. >> layoffs were supposed to happen tomorrow. but they got some money and can hang on a little bit longer, for one more paycheck. ♪ this is center in the park, a senior center full of life. but something is missing. >> this would ordinarily be longer? >> yes. and next week it will be even

shorter. it will be on a 8 1/2 by 11 next week. >> reporter: classes are being cut. >> silver sneakers exercise, piano. anything that has the paid instructor. >> reporter: the center simply doesn't have the money. the consequence of a stalled state budget that has the executive director scrambling for funds to keep the doors open, serving meals and welcoming seniors. >> right now i'm only through december, i'm only through december. >> reporter: so if it hits the first of the year -- >> i'm in trouble. >> reporter: layoffs are scheduled for two weeks from now. those who will stay are the ones who can for now work without a paycheck. >> the center's been here for 47 year. it's weathered a lot of challenges, you know, during that time. so i don't think anyone's ready to just give up. >> reporter: megan mccoy and delores palmer are among the employees ready to take the financial hit. >> i'm plotting it as i go along. i can't make any promises or statements right now about how long i'll be able to do it.

but i'm going to hang in here as long as i can. that's for sure. >> reporter: the center has 29 employees. >> one, two, three. >> reporter: on any given day, 200 seniors dancing, learning, sharing. but lynn harris worries about no budget, soon more rooms could be empty. the executive director here tells me she will keep looking for more money and, of course, keep hoping for a budget deal. but as of right now, those that come to work here november 16th will not get paid. i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. after weeks of uncertainty, the house of representatives has a new speaker. lawmakers officially approved congressman paul ryan today. the wisconsin congressman takes over for john boehner as the 54th house speaker. this morning's vote was merely a formality as house republicans nominated him for the position wednesday. ryan has said he hopes to unify a sometimes fractured republican

newly released surveillance video shows bullets flying as bikers run for cover during a deadly brawl in waco, texas. what you're watching took place in may, but nine people were killed when two biker gangs clashed on this patio of this restaurant.

177 people were charged after the shoot-out. the fraternal order of police honored several officers for going beyond the call of duty. it also thanked the gamestop corporation for its generosity towards the family of slain officer robert wilson. gamestop donated $50,000 to officer wilson's family. wilson was killed during a robbery at a gamestop in north philadelphia back in march. wilson was in full uniform when he went into the store to buy a birthday gift for his son. he died in a shoot-out with two men who walked in to rob the place. those two men are charged with murder. it's a difference between life and death. to not have access to one, i can't even imagine. >> a shortage of life-saving medicine for kids with severe allergies. tonight parents say the timing couldn't be any worse. >> maybe you've seen these before or at least heard of it. this is an epipen. it's an injection that can save your life if you're having a severe allergic reaction.

>> but now there's a shortage because of a recall from a competing brand. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal explains why this is such a frustrating time for this to happen. >> reporter: he's dressing up as a power ranger this year but he won't actually get to eat any of the candy he scoops up. >> what do you do when you get candy that you can't eat? >> either throw it away, give it to my mom. >> reporter: he's one of millions of kids with severe food allergies where eating something like flour or peanuts can be deadly, the family relies on emergency injections. this brabd is called auvi-q. >> this is our lifeline. this is everything. >> reporter: but yesterday the company issued a recall saying the device can sometimes give the wrong dosage. so now a scramble to pick up alternatives like the epipen, but some pharmacies are fresh out. >> i talked to two cvss on the phone who said we can't get it.

>> halloween is a time when children may have allergic reactions to food. >> reporter: dr. thomas klein says the auv-q brand is popular. it gives audio instructions during an emergency. problem is the fda says the device has malfunctioned more than 20 times. if you can't get an alternative by halloween, doctors recommend door-to-door vigilance. >> not to eat foods that they don't know the exact ingredients of. to be very careful and read the labels. >> halloween is supposed to be scary but not because of what you eat. >> reporter: if you can't get your hands on one of these epipens because of short supplies, doctors say you should still use that recalled device in an emergency and, of course, call 911. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. and you tap the nbc 10 app for more information on this recall including how to return your injectors and get a refund. now the story of a little philadelphia boy on the mend tonight after what his family

believes was really a case of just divine intervention. >> yeah. the 3-year-old walked away, but he had fallen out of a window two stories up. and he landed right on a picture of the last supper. his family sent us a photo of the picture he landed on. the boy's mother said he pushed through the window during his bath time last night. the framed picture fwhas the backyard. the boy only bruised his arm. >> the family calls it a miracle. we're not sure why the last supper picture was outside the house, but since that happened, they've moved it back inside as a result of what happened. >> yeah. don't ask any questions. we're glad it all worked out all right. >> absolutely. thank goodness. >> sheena parveen, the cooldown coming. >> you'll need a jacket before you head out tomorrow morning, too. some areas through the lehigh valley could be in the upper 30s. today really nice, temperatures around 70. but tomorrow you'll feel the difference. chilly air moves in through the

afternoon and even for the start of your weekend. so we're talking about a colder halloween and a colder temple game, the big matchup against notre dame, you'll want a jacket for that, too. not a lot of rain chances but we could see a couple showers before the weekend is over. today we got to 72. the average high is 62. we were ten degrees above that today. tomorrow we'll be about three degrees below average. so we're dropping in the upper 50s for a daytime high. both tomorrow and saturday. sunday we'll rebound back into the 60s. take a look at what will happen overnight. temperatures keep on dropping into early hours. the winds start to lighten up. still a little gusty outside. but these lighter winds will allow the temperatures to drop even more. 8:00 in the morning now we're looking at sunny skies but temperatures will be at about the low 40s through the philadelphia area. some spots north and west upper 30s possibly. so there's that cold front. it's already moved through. that cooler air is starting to

filter in, and that will be the case during the day tomorrow. here's future weather. once that front continues moving away, that cooler air continues to spill in through the afternoon tomorrow, too. and even starting off your weekend. saturday morning we're looking at temperatures once again in the 30s. pretty widespread. low 30s early saturday morning. 37 degrees for 8:00 saturday morning. going into your weekend, we are talking about a colder start, if you have the early plans saturday morning, you definitely want the jacket. we'll stay colder. for the trick-or-treaters, they might want a jacket, too. sunset is at 6:00 p.m. it does get darker. by 8:00 halloween night, upper 40s. and for the big temple game at the linc on saturday, 8:00 p.m. temperatures lower 50s. a cool one for that, too. tonight we'll be much cooler overnight. 39 for the low in allentown, 44

millville and 46 in dover and tomorrow sunny but chilly through the afternoon. temperatures only topping out at about the upper 50s for most of the area. same thing as we go into saturday. but by sunday we'll be gaining an hour of sleep. and temperatures jump back to the mid-60s, but our sun will be setting at 5:00 p.m. on sunday. we're looking at it getting darker earlier but at least we gain an hour this weekend. >> see why matt rule doesn't see temple as a cinderella story. the wells fargo center was a house of horror for the flyers tonight.

well, it is ingenuity that earned a boy from delaware a spot on our newscast tonight. he built himself a new hand. >> yeah, it just took will, determination and a trip to the l library. he had trouble at birth that left him with short fingers on his left hand. he was inspired by 3-d printing demos he saw. so he and his mom downloaded plans for an artificial working hand. they used the wilmington library's free 3-d printer to mold the parts. they put them together and created a working hand. >> i mean, i'll still be a righty. you can't really change that. but yeah,ent wally, i'll be able to work with them pretty much equally. .
