right now, at 6:00, a halloween candy scare in chester county. good evening, i'm denise nakano. parents are urged to check their children's candy, after some trick-or-treaters say they found sewing needles in candy bars last night. doug shimell joins us live. you just got an update on this investigation, doug. >> reporter: police tell us they want to make certain this is not just some sort of kid copycat hoax. so they have to treat it as a threat until proven otherwise. miguel luna is one of the children questioned by kenneth

square police after finding tampered candy halloween night. >> everybody test their candy. >> reporter: many kids scrambled to see if their candy would be added to the growing list as well. >> i just checked my candy to be safe. >> i checked my candy. >> reporter: in kenneth square, police say six candy bars were found with sewing needles inside after a child read a post about tampered candy on facebook. >> he found it in social media and proceeded to check his candy. >> reporter: neighbors say there were so many kids trick-or-treating saturday night, it is a miracle no one was hurt. >> i've heard about it before, other places in the united states. but here? i didn't think so. i was just shocked. >> that's scary to think about the children being out there and getting candy that could hurt them e. i almost feel like i could cry at this point. >> it's very upsetting to me. >> reporter: five of the pieces

of candy were twix bars and one snicker's. it was the text alert and phone alerts that urged this man to contact all 18 of his grandchildren. >> check before you eat it. >> reporter: police say assuming this is a valid incident and not a hoax, and someone is arrested, they could be charged with at the very least reckless endangerment. doug shimell, nbc 10 news. we have breaking news in from north philadelphia. police are looking for the person who shot and killed a 16-year-old poboy. the victim was taken to ot hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour ago. we have a crew on the way. we'll bring you any new information as we get it. it may be november, but it sure doesn't feel like it out there. we caught some families walking

along state street enjoying the warmer weather. just how long will these temperatures stick around? let's go to first alert meteorologist brittany shipp for a look at the forecast. >> you almost have to check the dates, it's warming into the mid-70s by the time we get to the middle part of your work week. let's look at this weekend. the temperatures were below average at 58 degrees. today 65. as we head into tomorrow, we will be a few degrees warmer with a high tomorrow of 67 degrees. so right now, it is a comfortable evening out. we're at 63 degrees in philadelphia. 60 in pottstown. and 62 degrees in dover. as we head into the rest of tonight, temperatures by 11:00 p.m. at 58. overnight we'll see the conditions dropping down into the low 50s. that will set us up for a decent start on your monday morning. those clouds are still sticking with us. we saw a few showers earlier. we're nice and dry now. one thing we've been tracking is the rain here.

it's going to stay mainly to the south of us tomorrow. i'll have more details coming up in the seven-day forecast. a delaware county family is recovering after a carbon monoxide scare this morning. the fire department was called to this home in upper darby around 3:00 this afternoon. neighbors reported a man who was disoriented and complaining about a possible gas issue inside his home. fire officials got in there and found elevated carbon monoxide levels. two adults and a child were removed and taken to the hospital. >> there were no co detectors in the house, which is what we recommend. tragedy was avoided by the fire department. the neighbors were attentive to call the right equipment in here. >> the adults and child were taken to the hospital, but they're said to be okay. an apartment fire in montgomery county has claimed a woman's life. officials say the fire may have

been accidental, but the cause is yet to be determined. nbc 10's monique braxton reports from plymouth township. >> the fire took basically the entire roof. >> reporter: including her neighbor, who passed away. sandy bricker is heart broken. she told us five years ago they moved into adjacent apartments, now gutted. >> i went over to borrow a nickel, or a quarter for the laundry room. and that's how our friendship started. it was cool to have someone next door. we hung out together. and with their pets. >> the fire alarm came, and the smoke was going everywhere. so i just got out of my home just to be safe. >> reporter: the raging inferno captured by a cell phone camera sent people fleeing for their lives. bricker said she rushed to her balcony. >> called 911, because i was stuck out there. and they got me down by a

bell mar, new jersey. it raised more than $375,000. good evening. temperatures warmed up nicely for the end of your weekend. our warming trend will continue as we go into next week. so we'll see a mild start on monday, plus a warmer midweek for us, then a dry stretch is expected as we head into most of next week. that will be a nice way to start november. right now, look outside. we're seeing just a few clouds in philadelphia. 63 degrees, our humidity at 70%. winds out of the southwest at 11 miles per hour. it was a bit breezy today, but still comfortable overall. we're at 55 degrees in the poconos. 60 degrees in reading. 61 currently in wilmington. dover, we're at 61 degrees. if i show you our 24-hour temperature change map, this puts it in perspective. we're about 12 degrees warmer in pottstown than this time

yesterday. up 11 degrees in allentown. up 8 degrees in atlantic city. our temperature trend shows us we'll continue to warm well above average. our average this time of year is 61 degrees. so today we pushed into the mid-60s. that's up from our high yesterday of 58. tomorrow 67. take a look at tuesday, 71. it actually gets warmer than that as we head into wednesday. so we're talking about temperatures in the mid-70s for the first week of november. our satellite radar shot shows that we have a few clouds in the area. we'll continue to see decreasing clouds as we head into the rest of tonight. wednesday will calm down a bit. we've been watching this system since yesterday. the rain is mainly going to stay south of our area. we could see a stray shower moving into the southern part of delaware as we get into tomorrow. i'll show you as close as the system is expected to get to us. we have a frontal boundary that will block the rain from moving up. by 11:00 a.m., you'll notice the rain is close to areas like

suffolk county, so that's it. if you look closer to philadelphia, the poconos, we're going to see lots of sunshine as we head into tomorrow. then our clouds will clear out nice live, and that will give way to another sunny day for us as we head into tuesday, wednesday, even thursday. things will start to change as we get into next weekend. but we have a pretty nice setup for the next few days. a mild monday on tap. closer to 63 for wildwood. partly cloudy tonight dropping down to 50 degrees for philadelphia. 45 to the north and west. as we head into tomorrow, mostly sunny. our temperatures will range between 65 and 68 degrees. again, our average is 61. so we are heading well above that average over the in ex few days. take a look at wednesday, 74 degrees. as we push into thursday, we're at 72. or 71, i should say. friday, 74. by the weekend, a cold front and rain is expected. following breaking political

sports net. the nfc east, the eagles moved closer to first place on their bye week. the cowboys are losing to the seahawks 10-6 in the second half. giants crazy offense in new orleans. saints down. less than a minute left. that's brees' seventh touchdown of the game. tie e tied. it's picked up by willy snead. the former punter for the eagles holds him down by the face mask. that is a big penalty. that gives the saints a chance to kick the game-winning field goal. wow. saints beat the giants 52-49. the third most combined points in nfl history. eli manning had six touchdown passes, but the giants dropped to 4-4, the eagles 3-4, just a half game back now. the birds should be able to have a winning november.

they go to dallas next sunday night. then host the florida team, dolphins and bucs and finish the month at detroit. none of those teams have a winning record. the bucs in atlanta today with a seven-point lead. but finds julio jones. with under 20 seconds left. we're headed to overtime. the bucs kicked a field goal. matt ryan, they need to get this fourth down. no. bucs win 23-20. 3-4, win two of three. the lions lost in london. so they are 1-7. the temple owls earned the country's respect last night losing to notre dame by four points. they only drop two spots, so now number 23 in the country. and it is the first time in temple football history a team has been ranked for three straight weeks. here it s. temple tied up the game on a touchdown. they took a late lead on a field goal. they led the irish with under five minutes to go.
