this is "nbc 10 news today" on tuesday, leaks day tuesday. i'm chris cato. we're casting our vote for another warm fall day. here is meteorologist bill henley and bill, we are going to get that later, right? >> not right now though. the temperatures much chillier, some spots close to 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. that is millville at 18 degrees off yesterday's number. it's 10 degrees cooler in northeast philadelphia. mount loyal down by 15 degrees. pottstown, allentown and reading almost 10 degrees cooler this morning. which means we're in the 30s and 40s. 38 degrees in interior new jersey, pottstown, mount holly in the 30s, allentown in the pocono mountains, in the 40s in philadelphia. we'll see lots of sunshine today. a beautiful fall day that will feel like early fall. 47 degrees to start with. that's chilly but 57 degrees by 9:00 and we'll add matter to 10 by lunch time up to 67 and still climbing at that hour. we'll go through the neighborhoods when i come back

in ten minutes. the latest forecast. right now jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> bill, we're watching the vine street expressway where we have a few things going on. we're looking right above eighth street on the local vine where they have the cameras turned to watch this construction westbound between 9th and broad street. they have one lane getting through the area as you can see. but something to watch for. may set you back as the morning progresses. also on the vine street expressway between the schuylkill and broad we're closed east and westbound for construction, that should be out there until about 5:00 this morning. moving into new jersey, some construction there as well. watch out for the 42 northbound off ramp to 130 westbound, that's closed and will be out there until about 5:00 a.m. also. checking in with mass transit, currently no problems or delays this morning for septa, patco, dart, new jersey transit we're good to go. when i come back we'll have another update on your traffic. chris. decision 2015, it is

election day across the area. voters will go to the polls to decide several important races including the next mayor of philadelphia. who will succeed michael nutter. long time city councilman jim kenney faces melissa murray bailey a republican. an uphill battle with democrats outnumbering republicans in the city 7-1. volunteers at every polling location today to answer any voter questions and address concerns. this is all part of an initiative by the philadelphia district attorney's office and the committee of 70 to protect the vote of every philadelphiian they say. across pennsylvania today, voters will choose three members for the state supreme court. those new additions could change the balance of power on the bench. matt delucia joins us live. in these off presidential election days the question is how many voters will turn out. >> reporter: that is the big question how many will get to the polls. you mentioned the pennsylvania supreme court race.

there are seven members on the supreme court, three members will be decided today. so this of course is a very big deal. in fact, one political expert i talked with yesterday called this the most important race of this election cycle. that is because the men and women on the court have far greater impact on what happens here locally. also the supreme court race will decide how it is made up politically in terms of democrats or republicans. you also have that mayor's race in philadelphia, people will be watching, also in montgomery county who will win the seat for district attorney. again roles with far reaching impact. the question is again, how many people will come out and vote. turnout is expected to be low in these off-year elections. coming up i spoke with people about whether or not they will get to the polls. vile that again when we see you again in about 30 minutes from now. live in norristown, matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." >> in the garden state, voters will choose a new general

someone shot that man last night near the rushwood apartments on keswick road in northeast philadelphia. monique braxton is there. monique is going to tell us what new information police have to go on. >> reporter: hi, chris. the quiet of the night was shattered here about 8:30 at rushwood apartments when gun shots rang out. we captured canines searching for bullet casings as the forensic unit collected evidence. witnesses tell police just after 8:30 gun shots were heard in the 10,000 block of keswick road. when they looked out they saw a man on the ground about 50 feet from his front door. >> they found a 21-year-old male victim on the grounds of the rushwood apartments. he was laying on his back, he was semiconscious but losing consciousness and shot one time in his chest. >> reporter: that victim was transported to the hospital and where he was pronounced. witnesses did not hear an

argument prior to the shooting but they did say a man and woman were running through the parking lot from the scene. police tell us they hope that someone in this community had surveillance videotape and they are going to be back here probably under the light of day to search for it. no doubt still a very active investigation. live in the northeast, monique braxton, "nbc 10 news." now this story. a neighbor's nose let police to discover hazardous stuff including possible bomb material at a home in delaware county. sky force 10 was over maryland circle in radnor township. police responded to neighbor complaints about an odor coming 40 the property. officers found world war ii ammunition, unknown chemicals in stainless steal containers and possible explosives. we spoke to the homeowner, a firearms dealer who called the police response nonsense. >> a waste of money.

they should be doing things where they are catching people doing something. this is nonsense. messy is not unsafe. messy does not explode. messy is messy. >> messy is just messy. the police commissioner said there are hazardous materials in the man's back yard. he has not been arrested or charged. neighbors of a teen gunned down while riding his bicycle on sunday made plea last night end the violence in north philadelphia. >> we say there is a problem in the community. come on people, wake up. >> hundreds gathered to call for peace at a vigil for saleem west. they brought balloons, candles and stuffed animals for a growing memorial. the 16-year-old was riding his bike with a friend sunday evening when two men got out of a car and fired 17 shots at the teens, killing saleem. police say the teens had an altercation with the men earlier in the day. >> when they sit at their dinner

tables and eat they don't feel the pain we feel. >> it hurts so bad. so young at 16. he is not a bad boy. >> police are offering a $20,000 reward. >> toxicology reports have provided no answer tins mysterious death of that 3-year-old boy in camden county from a few weeks a go. the lawyer for the father says the tests have come back necktive. that could mean that investigators didn't find any drugs or chemicals in the boy's system. nbc 10 has not confirmed those findings with the camden county prosecutor's office. we're working on doing that. three weeks ago police found brendan's body in the woods, a half mile from his home after his father reported him missing. autopsy results were inconclusive. coming up on 10 minutes after 4:00. the temperatures are plummeting this morning.

it is a much chillier morning than yesterday. skies mostly clear, so we are on our way to brilliant sunshine to turn those numbers around. it's a warming trend that starts today and will stay with us for most of the work week. right now it's 40 degrees and falling in reading, under clear skies, 47 degrees in philadelphia and cape may is down to 43. nice and clear over cape may. it will be brilliant sunshine after the mostly cloudy day yesterday, the clouds finally moved out overnight. there are two reasons. actually three reasons that we're so cool this morning. one of them the wind has died down with less quind mixing the atmosphere layers the temperature falls down. there's dry air in place and our skies are nice and clear. that has made for chilly temperatures this morning. but also with clear skies we see nothing but sunshine during the day so a quick warm-up. look at these temperatures. 70s from camelback where it will be 71, to morgantown, topping out at 70 and pennsburg at 71.

left-hand lane getting by with construction there. the rest of our drive times, great so far. no problems on 95 for the schuylkill expressway, into the center city area, the blue route, southbound from the schuylkill to 95, that's 15 minutes, so we're good to go. if you are heading out the door on the boulevard, southbound between route 413 and the p.a. turnpike watch for the left lane closed until 5:00 a.m. with ongoing construction. >> if you are getting ready to head to the polls and cast your vote it's never too early to be thinking about next year. and there is new information this morning about next year's presidential election. you'll see which candidates in the race are pulling ahead in a just released poll. also ahead, a national honor for a main line university. why experts say the v in villanova stands for value. with cancer, early detection can mean life or death.

yesterday. the next republican debate is a week from tonight in milwaukee. new information on that deadly plane crash over the sinai peninsula. the possible cause of that russian plane crash that killed more than 200 people last week, could come down to a previous incident involving the same jet. here's what we mean. investigators say the airbus a321 was 18 years, in 2001 the tail was hit in cairo. now investigators are looking closely at the repair job done and follow-up inspections checking for microscopic cracks that could be catastrophic. >> after many, many cycles ups and downs of these cracks will reach a critical point and will break open. >> the airline metro jet says a technical fault could have have caused it. they blame an external impact. intelligence officials say there is no indication that a

for glendora and voorhees. the wind is light. our skies are clear. once the sun comes up after 6:30 we'll see plenty of sunshine. satellite shows no clouds near us. yesterday we were getting all of that cloud cover from the rain that was to our south. there's still some rain in north carolina but that system is edging off to the east. so we will be in the clear today. not a cloud in the sky. the forecast is looking good for a warm-up. sunny skies, so mild. 70s this afternoon. with wind out of the west, from 3 to 8 miles an hour. that light wind means a cool start tomorrow morning. 48 degrees and look at that. a warm-up, the warming trend that will be around even with a few showers we'll see 70s on thursday. the temperatures go higher on friday with partly sunny skies. but friday night there is a cold front and that is going to drop our temperatures for the weekend. it could give us an early shower on saturday. 20 minutes after 4:00. let us check your drive if you

are headed through camden county, this is what you can expect on the white horse pike. >> we're in berlin, new jersey right now. check out some intersections around that spot here around cross keys road. they connect right in here you can see cars not really around the area. so we're doing good there. more checks on new jersey, on the 42 freeway now, northbound from 55 to the walt whitman bridge. we will see jams or backups, 5 minutes, no problem. but we have a few patches of construction closing off ramp, one on the 42 northbound at 130 westbound that exit ramp is closed until 5:00 this were montgomery. ongoing construction on the new jersey turnpike southbound the exit ramp to 195 is closed to car lanes only and that will be there until about the end of november. a major bridge project in bucks county is under way.
