>> jim kenney wins the former councilman and pulls off a landslide victory and becomes the new mayor. i'm jim rosen field. >> i'm jackelyn london. tonight, the democrats continued their winning streak. the race wasn't even close. take a look at the returns. with 54% of the precincts reporting, kenney received 84% of the vote while melissa murray bailey received 14%. >> we have live election coverage. we begin with lauren live tonight at philadelphia's city hall. lauren? >> reporter: good evening. the the results came in fast. jim kenney's victory speechless than five minutes long. but this has been a long journey. more than two decades on counsel here at city hall and a lifetime in philadelphia leading to this.

cheers for the man chosen to be philadelphia's next mayor. >> i've been asked time and time again what i am going to do to move philadelphia forward. tonight, i'm reminded it is not what i am going to do, it is what we are going to do together. [ cheers ] >> elected six times to philadelphia's city counsel, this election is different for jim kenney. the 57-year-old is taking the rains in the city where he grew up in a prepared speech that lasted just three minutes, he gave credit to those who helped him. >> behind this campaign we had environmentalist, fem feminist, unions, public school parents, clergy, lgbt community and so many more. >> reporter: she was chair of his policy committee. we talked about education rye yourties. >> he has a couple real limb

public schools are failing so many of our children and we created a real platform for change. >> we also caught up with the business executive earlier today at her polling place. she told us she has no regrets about run income a democrat-controlled city. the race for pennsylvania supreme court was as historic as it was expensive and right now, the three candidates from the democratic party are in the lead. david wecht, kevin doherty. and donohue. 23% of the reprints reporting. allegations against bill cosby became an issue tonight and tonight democrats are claiming victory. >> with 93% of precincts reporting. >> castor wasn't far behind. >> keith jones is live at democratic headquarters.

keith? >> reporter: guys, it was a tight race but not too tight to call. kevin steel just got done talking. he said it's about families and pulled his young son up to the stage. parties, about 150 democrats are here supporting the candidates. this race came down to the wire and both campaigns at times were heated. kevin steel started the morning surrounded by family behind his mother and father. both men after a month of verbal sparring mostly about comedian bill cosby. steel saying he refused to prosecute and castor saying steel didn't do enough to pursue charges, both produced memorable campaign ads.

north philadelphia. sky force 10 was above the scene where it happened about 6:30 this evening. police don't believe the victim was a student, though. a team searched a nearby home. they did not find the shooter but questioning the family. two delaware teens are facing gun charges after an alleged incident last week. 17-year-old juan and lewis alvardo were arraigned. alvardo handed the other a pistol during a fight. both teens are facing multiple charges including assault and possession of a deadly weapon. to chester county where three students are accused of distributing child porn. the allegations rocked east town school districts. >> andrea is live outside the middle school. parents, one of the students checked his cell phone all the time, clearly that wasn't enough

here, though. >> reporter: that's right, because the teen put those images and those videos on its cloud storage and basically hiding it from his parents. basically, i wouldn't be able to access the cloud storage but we have to understand the students arrested are between 11 and 15 years old, all of this technology is second nature to them, which may explain why some of these images, why they did this. they may have thought it was a prank, but now they are learning the hard way that it's actually against the law. in april of this year, police began uncovering child pornography being shared online and with strangers by students as young as 11 years old. >> terrible concerns, of course. that shouldn't be happening, but so far i haven't heard anything from the district or any other parents i'm in touch with, nothing. >> reporter: the students attended valley forge and

conestoga high school. they were mainly taking inappropriate selfies. a student tried selling an intimate image of another classmate to peers and a male student shared a video he downloaded online and told everyone it involved a female classmate. >> quite frankly, it's a seriously exploding issue in the society but the law hasn't caught up with. >> reporter: this attorney gets called with serious situations that have serious consequences. >> if you have possession of a photograph of yourself or another person and you send that or even just have possession, that's a crime. >> reporter: in a worst-case scenario, it could lead to a felony conviction and being forced to register as a sex offender. >> there are consequences that could affect you getting into college or getting a job later. >> reporter: so far, three students have been arrested and more arrests are expected. >> once you take it, once you send it, you can't undo it.

it will be another warm day through the afternoon hours and this streak of 70 degree temperatures, this is going to continue through the end of the week. then we get a bigger fall cool down as we go into the weekend. so i'll show you how cool it will get coming up. jury deliberations continue tomorrow in the fraud trial of chaka fattah junior. they claim he lied to banks to get business loans to support his lifestyle. he lied on taxes to cover his tracks. prosecutors told jurors his consulting and services were effectively a sham. despite today's rhetoric in court, the defendant insists he's confident. >> i feel great. look, i'm very excited. i look forward to the jury getting the opportunity to make a decision in the case. >> his father was in court today during the closing arguments. like his son, fattah senior

expressed confidence in the american justice system. pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane has until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow relating to the jerry sandusky sex abuse case. the judge supervising leaked secret information. failure to meet tomorrow's deadline would result in a thursday hearing for cane. sandusky is serving 30 to 60 years in prison after he was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse. a fraternity under fire. the action a local university is taking. >> flashing lights and horns designed to scare away a threat. if you don't get out of here with that camera, i will make your day -- >> polls are not open. >> and this is how election day began in one local burro.

back to our election day coverage in the race for city counsel, cindy bass is leading. cherelle parker in the ninth district and here are the seventh people with the most votes. it was a chaotic election day in delaware county. >> i'd like to see the certifica certificate. >> i'll not showing you nothing. please get out my way. >> arguing lead to two delaware sheriff's deputies being stationed at a polling location. in the end four democrats one. former burro manager paula brown plans on challenging the

results. it wouldn't be an election day without a few surprises. >> a local nonprofit giving meaning to the phrase it pays to vote. the philadelphia citizen surprised this woman with a check for $10,000 chosen at random as part of the it pays to vote lottery initiative. it was createed to get more registered voters to the polls. 73% 73% of registered voters failed to a cast a vote in the primary. temple students at a local youth group banded together tonight. >> and did it to raise awareness. members of temple's chapter and the bright hope baptist church held a rally and sleepout in north philadelphia. the group is spending the night sleeping in cardboard boxes to draw attention to the challenges homeless youth face every day. >> we actually sleep out here for a couple hours to simulate what it would be like to be homeless. >> the problem of youth

homelessness is exploding. we have a lot of youth homelessness in various areas. >> donations from tonight's event will be given to local homeless shelters. the nbc 10 digital team spent two months investigating youth homelessness. reports took them from the streets to the shelters. what they found was truly eye opening. open the app to see our special project titled the faces of homeless youth. a fraternity at the college of new jersey is suspended indefinitely spending an investigation into possible rules violations. university officials confirmed an interim suspension. a college spokesperson would not comment on the nature of the allegations, only to say an interim suspension could happen in the event of exceptional circumstances to ensure the health, safety and welfare of students. from the nbc 10 news burro, victimized by vultures.

>> flashing lights and blow horns to scare the birds away. they say hundreds of them have made themselves a little too comfortable in their community over the past year. >> the buzzards have taken over the community. they have torn up houses and decks and furniture and they just have done a tremendous amount of damage. >> neighbors reached out for help but say the recommendations didn't work. they will keep making noise until the as a rule tours find a new place to call home. >> maybe it's just too warm out there for them to fly south at this point. >> right. that means they will be sticking around for a few days. the warm weather continues. >> yeah, i think a lot of people are enjoying it because it's really above normal for this time of the year, so take advantage of it before we start to see the way below normal temperatures that's deeper as we go into winter but for now, we'll keep the 70 degree temperatures around for the rest of this week. our next rain chances coming this week, too, a small rain

chance, nothing that i think will be anything major or heavy. just a few showers possible but as we go into the weekend, we'll start to cool down more. temperatures getting a little below normal by sunday. right now, we have had temperatures in the 70s for today, even thursday. a little warmer than what we saw yesterday in the mid 60s but the average high is 61 degrees. so we have been well above that and will stay like that through the end of the week. for the bus stop forecast tomorrow morning, a little cool area north and west by 7:00 a.m., mid 40s, low 50s, philadelphia, new jersey and delaware but by the afternoon, temperatures for the afternoon bus stop time will be around the mid to low 70s. it will be another warm, comfortable sunny day because of the big area of high pressure that's been keeping us warm. been keeping us dry. kept this rain down to the south over the past couple days and it will keep us warm as we go through friday. so here is a look at future weather. you see the warm air in place.

it will stay in place for tomorrow afternoon. we stay nice and dry and sunny. few showers possible into thursday but really not much and then we go into friday. warm air is still here. cold front approaches. that moves through going into the weekend and we cool down more. saturday will be a ten degree drop from friday and sunday another ten-degree drop. sunday will be the coldest day out of the week with highs in the 50s. so when you compare to today and tomorrow and the rest of the week with highs in the 70s, you might want to take advantage of it before the weekend gets here. tonight 54 for the low in philadelphia. clear skies, as cold as last night. 47 degrees north and west for the low temperature then tomorrow afternoon, once again, in about the mid 70s. 75 to 78. warm temperatures. thursday more clouds. we could have a few showers around, too. nothing major, throw. some of us will see a few
